Emelyn *nod* I know what you mean- Plus, I'm super afraid that I'll put all my capital into it- about 10 mil worth of gold+items, at this point- into it... and then not get a very good turnout, or have it be WORTH all that money. A part of me thinks I should just liquidate it all and do single commissions. ...I wonder if that'd be ..'more' worth it. Y'know? Of course, some of these artists don't open themselves to commissions- they just enter these contests. And others want a very large amt for a commish. So maybe it would be a better deal. *shrugsigh* I just dunno. ^_~ So I keep putting it off. That's it too. sweatdrop There's lots of things to think about ^^;

I know exactly what you mean, that's one reason I keep extending it... however, I've almost given up on single commissions, since artists like taking 4+ months for a 3000g bust shot. |:

Ah I have two contests I have goals to save up for. My first Midnite-Star one had about 45 entries for just around 250k and some really nice art, so I'm hoping to have about 1-2mill in prizes for my next ones and make them even bigger smile Must save up! I"m kinda more eager to have a contest around the manga I'm starting... but though I could have enough to hold a contest very soon, I'd like to actually HAVE at least the first ten pages or more of it done XD
Hmn. I'm thinking about starting an auction for my normal art maybe within the next week or so. Last ones have either been chibis or fanart so it's been quite a while. What do you guys feel are better? Shorter auctions? (like 1 week, maybe 2) Or longer ones?

I'm planning my next one to be long, several months at least, but that's partly cause I'll have a high first prize, and partly because I want to have the time to not worry about it off and on and not have it suffer too much. XD

*is a new member*
I was wondering about the exact same thing for about a year. It took me so long to get any commissions from artists. One artist still has a nitemare scarf in the bank for a chibi and it's been so long. Those scarves really raised in price since then. They still haven't accepted the trade or done my chibi. >.<' I just went ahead and piled all my savings into an art contest that I opened up on Saturday. I have an advertising contest so I hope that will help out with it.
Does anyone who had an art contest before have any suggestions on how to get people to enter? I would hate to beg artists I like to enter! XD

Advertise it in your sig, post everywhere and anywhere you can in R&C and R&C auctions, and swap links with anyone you can. I noticed a really significant result for the auction I did that with, vs the one I was more laid back about and kept forgetting about. XD

The whole theory works for auctions as well, so I do it a lot.

i was going to host a contest but changed my mind because there are so many entries people get in contests that if i got them, i would never use. and the 4-5 really good entries i'd get wouldn't be worth spending 2-3mil each on. i'd rather focus on stuff i want and pay fullprice for it, but that's just me :]

So this is what I have from joining gaia in february '04: http://img445.imageshack.us/img445/5127/sinvintorywq3.jpgYou can kind of ignore the G buckles and shades. I wanna start an art contest some day. See anything that could be a good prize in there? I don't care what it is, I'll blow everything for one last art contest.

Not that it's extremely important or anything... But um... I applied to the guild a while ago (a month?) With 50+pictures in a public photobucket gallery... and I haven't gotten any replies yet. Did I do something wrong? lol
