Callista's heart was breaking for her sister. "Yeah, Valzar's learned a lot of things already. Maybe Pip will too." She patted Valzar's hoof. Thank you.
"Yes, but I'm afraid my lifemate is older and a little more set in in his ways. He asked me the other day if I was ready to take our relationship to the next level. He said he'd felt my spirit grow and that he thought I was ready."
Callista wrinkled her nose at that. "I don't like how that sounds."

"Please understand, I am not very familiar with such situations," Valzar glanced between the sisters. "But shouldn't that be your decision?"

"Well, yes and no..."
"Serena's lifemate is older, so he is in more danger of turning without her bound to him. With Serena being a yearling, it's tricky. By our laws, he shouldn't have even come to her until she was an adult, he did, and they've had one exchange. So, if the darkness gets too much for him, Serena can go the extra bit to save him, but at a cost to herself because she'll have to grow up almost overnight."

Callista stared up at Valzar. "I don't think I've ever really heard you use that word before."
"It is. I don't want him to become the undead, but I'm not ready to be who he wants me to be yet either. I had a good time ribbing Callista. I can't be that pony when I'm with him...Anyway, I'm sure I've done enough damage here. I should go find Jazz or something. He's pretty good at listening. I won't tell Daddy either. One of us should have a good time with their lifemate." Serena waved as she turned and walked down the path heading for the lake.

Valzar shrugged, "I am unfamiliar with such situations and it is the word you used to describe it..."

Callista smiled. "It's a good word to describe the situation. Another one would be doomed."

"Not unless one changes drastically. And Carpathian males hardly ever change. They become a littel less agressive to everyone but the undead after they find their lifemate, and they allow her smaller freedoms and support her, but they don't really ever stop being a hunter, or whatever it is they were before they met her."

"Yes. And that's a new development. It used to be that a female lifemate did whatever her lifemate wanted. If he said that she couldn't go outside without him, then it would be so. Women were never considered for fighting, either. But now, when it's necessary, women are allowed to take up arms against the undead."

"Yes, but that's ok. Maybe you'll be able to give those boneheads a few ideas on how to make a lifemate feel special."

"You're overqualified. You'll raise the bar for the rest of them. Everyone will be demanding that Callista's lifemate Valzar teach theirs all his tricks."
