Informed Xyliah to Xander as they sat in their cleverly hidden hole. "My bad. I should have made this bigger and not played them as well. I had to make it look real. and this hole under neath the rocks is just a bit tight for the both of us... And you even tried to make that dust thing with rocks again. We really need to find a spell that does that better."

Sage Weslan and his partner both smashed their weapons into the stone shell that their opponent had formed around himself. The impact broke the surface of the shell, causing large cracks to form over the cocoon. Both raised their weapons back and smashed them into the stone once again. This time both smashed through to stone to hit... nothing. The rock crumbled inwards revealing an empty space where the challenger had been before. Weslan said to himself.

Raolain looked on as the Sage broke through the shell, only to find it empty. He narrowed his eyes as he watched and barely held in a sigh. He could guess where the fool dueler had gone, but wondered why the sage wasn't thinking of it. Raolain refused to believe that clown had enough power or mental discipline to weave a teleport spell at all, let alone under duress.

Xander and Xyliah but mentally yelled at each other. "AAAUUURRGH!" Yelled Xander as Xyliah made the dirt above him explode right under the feet of the sage and his partner. Seeing his opening, Xander aimed a very speedy and muscular upercut right at the midrift of the sage. both Xander and Xyliah both thought at each other.

Achaz illusion held firmly, bending others' sight around him so that they would see nothing but empty air. Another illusion blended his scent to that of the building itself.
“Vos animadverto quis mens animadverto quod narro per glacialis vicis.”
The words were whispered softly inaudibly so and the connection reached out to the pair fresh from their match with the sage. For Leonard and Kazal the world would seem to shimmer and slow. When the world reached clarity again a mere moment later the halls and arena would appear empty and devoid of the sounds of life. The air would carry a mildly musty smell, the smell of an old academy filled with older books. Standing a few feet away an old man stood His white hair, tinged with gray and pulled back to fall over his back. As it trailed down below the shoulder the hair was braided into and through rings of old bones of different kinds and sizes all worn, aged, and eleven with each braid of hair. His voluminous robes were the color of jade and trimmed with a dark orange the color of turning leaves in Fall. Crows feet marked the sides of his one eye the other hidden by an patch. A scar ran down his left cheek to the jaw and several wrinkles marked his face besides. His body hunched over onto a weathered oak staff, so much so that it appeared to be the only thing holding the old man upright. On each hand he wore a silk glove, on the left it was black, the right a deep red that looked the color of old dried blood. His feet were covered by a pair of darkly tanned doeskin boots that were hidden largely by his robes save a glimpse of his toes. From him came the scent of fallen leaves somehow combined with that of a Spring rain.
“Mage Noyes, Master Kazal, pardon the intrusion, but have no worry you will not miss your friends match against the sage. I wish only to become acquainted with you for now. My name is Achaz.” The old man managed somewhat of a bow despite his leaning on the staff."

Leonard and Kazal both jumped to their feet as the world around them seemed to warp and grow slow, then empty, and quiet. They both snapped their heads around to fixate on the elderly seeming man as he spoke to them. His appearance was striking, someone who would stand out in almost any crowd. Kazal slowly reached down and took his axe in hand. He sent to Leonard. Leonard sent back. "And why do you want to become 'acquainted' with us?" Leonard, too, had reached down and taken a hold of his weapon.

Achaz grinned slightly at the two's reaction.
“Destiny m'boy.” Achaz tapped his staff against the ground, grinning all the while; the wrinkles on his face compounding through the action. “Meeting is not coincidence you see. Not for you, not for anyone.” He freed his right hand for a moment visibly struggling to stay upright by removing one of his hands from the staff, and made a gesture towards Kazal. “Take your Leonin companion for example Leonard. Do you think your meeting was mere chance? You balance one another well, anyone could see that by watching the battle between you and the Sage. True enough you lost the battle, but can you say that did you not fight well together?”
Achaz shrugged his shoulders and they sank lower than they had as if the mere gesture had taken something out of him. “No mages' companion is so by mere chance. Destiny, fate, that is why we have the companions that we do, that is why we meet the people that we meet.” Achaz chuckled despite a mild fit of coughing that came afterward. “Without those people, those companions we would not be where we are today, we would have walked a different path. Thus, I wish to be acquainted with you and your friends. For my destiny had brought me here, to you. I play a part in helping you keep your pa....” He trailed off into silence, his eyes became distant and unfocused.

Weslan was indeed truly surprised by his opponents quick thinking. Not surprised enough that he did not interpose his staff in the path of the mage's fist, though. The Sage rolled with the force of the blow. He came off his feet slightly and landed on them again a foot or so farther back. He swept on foot back, presenting his profile to his opponent as he spun his iron staff before him. "Not bad, young man. You have an interesting style. Though I must say that by having your partner wrap herself around you as she is, in an intruder combat, you seem to have put yourself at a disadvantage. True you do make yourself into a single warrior of great strengths, but you are now outnumbered." Jesper proved the Sages point by suddenly leaping at the young mage, all bared fangs and iron claws.
Leonard and Kazal just listened as the old man gave his explanations. Leonard really had no problems believing that fate had brought Kazal and himself together, so long as they were together. He honestly didn't think he could ask for a better partner. The two continued listening as the man continued what was quickly becoming a speech before he suddenly trailed off. "Hey, you okay?" Leonard asked him.

Achaz suddenly shook his head and his face skewed as if he were confused for a moment before relaxing again. “What was I saying?” Again with effort the old man shrugged his shoulders, “It doesn't matter. Anyway, I would like to test you and your friends myself and see what I can see. Obviously not anymore today though. After the match you and your friends will need food and rest of course. I could facilitate that at my camp. Maybe do a reading for you once the sun has thoroughly set itself if you or your friends would wish. I do love taking a peak in the cookie jar as it were.” The old man chuckled and fell into another fit of coughing. He dabbed at his mouth with a sleeve; getting control over himself again. “What do you say?”

Leonard asked. Kazal responded.
Leonard sent the mental equivalent of a grin. "Alright, Mister Achez, I'm gonna take you up on that offer. Kazal, here, and I'd be happy to eat with you, and listen to a good story."

“Excellent, excellent. If all three of you and your partners wish to partake, you are all most welcome to join me. My camp is a bit north of the Academy. You'll find a small grove; my encampment is within. Better yet, near the entrance to the Acedemy you'll find a small sprite that smells of apple blossoms. His name is Lathavendier. Merely call him by his name and ask him to show you the way and you will be brought to me. Until then.” Achaz gave a slight bow before he tapped the staff once on the ground. Then he faded away; a slight feeling of vertigo for Leonard and Kazal as forms began to take shape and slowly roll into motion. The two being left exactly as they had before their talk with Achaz.

"Let's play some catch!" With that Xander punched his left hand into his right igniting it in a glove of light. In one swift motion Xander wound up and with his left hand drove a crazy left hook that was aimed right at Jasper. The punch was stopped early as if Xander has just hit a wall, and with that the light around his fist exploded into a runed circle in the air were the invisible wall would have been. In a split second, the circle pumped out the solid earth that Xander had removed to make his hole. With that Xyliah made a mirrored punching motion into the rock to help it launch at Jasper.

Weslan watched, mildly impressed, as his opponent pulled out some tectonic spells he had rarely seen from a mage so young. The gathered spell, the rune circle, and the transposed earth. All quite impressive indeed. Perhaps, he thought, I might have misjudged this young man, though his manner does give a different impression than his combat skills... Jesper was caught almost completely off guard as the transposed earth was suddenly reposed, hurtling through the air towards him, with the force of the mage and spirit both driving it. He raised his ironed claws to attempt to block or deflect, knowing full well that it would be too little too late. The aerial boulder collided with the bear, smashing his foreclaws to his chest in an instant, and continuing forward to bear its full weight and momentum into his body. Jesper was hurled backwards, tossed through the air like a rag doll. Te bear rolled and bounced, finally thumping to a stop where he had crashed down on his side. He lay panting for a moment and then attempted to heave himself back to his feet, to no avail. He rose partway and then felt a searing stabbing pain shoot through his side, before collapsing back to the dirt. Sage Weslan, too, felt his pain, through their bond.
Weslan strode forwards, towards his opponent. "Not bad, young man. I will admit, I am thoroughly surprised. I had not expected spells of such a caliber from such a young man. And I note that you used no spoken incantation. Well, you are not alone in such skills." The sage held out a hand, and without a word flames sprang forth in a great gushing gout, aimed for his young opponent.

Xander thought as his punched his right hand into his left one preparing the dirt removal spell. With that Xyliah started to ghost up some dirt from around Xander's feet and had just managed to cover his lower torse just as he punched the ground with his right foot removing another hiding hole. But it was just a second too late, for as Xander fell into the hole, flames engulfed his face as a look of shock spread just as fast as the flames did. As Xander fell he grabbed at some loose dirt to rub in his face and douse the flames that had engulfed his hair.

That might have been overkill. Weslan thought to himself. Perhaps I should allow him a moment to collect himself. Weslan sighed mentally. Sometimes these kids come in here and throw around a handful of impressive magic, some strategy and skill, and I forget that they're still just kids. But we Sages have our roles to play, and I must do my best not to forget that. Weslan simply stood and watched as Xander fell into his newly created foxhole, flaming slightly.
