yes, but I've never roleplayed in real life either

Ah hum....well the rules still apply. To roleplay well, an RPer writes in the third person style. Everything your character does is written in this way, as well as past tense style. i.e Keno said, Keno walked, Keno laughed...etc. etc. Make sense?

okay. the last post referrs to actions obviously. when your character speaks, think about novel format. use quotations and correct punctuation where needed.

actually that's a great point as well. to be respected as a roleplayer, you have to be literate. be descriptive, vivid, but don't over do it on details. when you roleplay well, everyone will be able to easily imagine your character on the spacial plane. every movement will be clear and crisp.....gosh this is hard...make sense?? sweatdrop

hai... shitsumon, when roleplaying for real there is a 'dungeon master' or something that keeps things on track... what about online?

Okay. Two other things to remember about RPing are 1) enter your character. If you don't, everyone will be confused as to how you popped out of nowhere and just engaged in a conversation. 2) before you leave an RP, exit your character. The way we RP, if you don't post an exit, or at least an OOC exit, we'll just assume you're still around and everyone will continue interacting with you OR waiting on a response (very annoying... stare )

That makes sense, I'll be sure to do so

Certain styles of RP usually have average post lengths. In casual RP (usually an RP in which nothing important is going on, but you want to just roleplay) the length of the post really doesn't matter that much. For example...

KenoTao
"Just like that," he said as he kissed her near the collar bone. "See? I'll make a cook out of you in no time ne?" His stomach gurgled a bit, but he was hoping she hadn't heard that. It didn't even occur to him that was the first time his stomach ever growled around others.

However, here in TS, one of the most common styles of RP is fighting. In these posts, several dimensions need addressing in the post. A character's reaction to his opponent, and his action against his opponent are the most important. However, these two basic elements require a detailed enough description of every motion of your character's body. If you don't, then your character's actions in battle become blurry, confusing and your opponent often won't be able to respond. This is also the consequence of using too much detail, including the fact that they may just get bored. Here's an example

KenoTao
Keno only gazed in curiosity as his ascending body was suddenly duplicated. He realized he had almost reached the rafters before he stopped his climb into the air and gazed at yet another clone. The air around him identified four more Keno within the tornado itself. Did Protean...hit him with lightning? That wasn't exactly the wisest move to make. But it couldn't be helped. Now there were six Keno and it was running through his mind whether or not he should dismiss the new ones or keep them on hand.

He decided on the latter when he realized Protean was finally coming to rival his speed. At least fast enough to catch him off guard. fortunately, for whatever reason, the newly empowered lycan did not attack once he caught up, giving Keno enough time to back away and leave space between him and his opponent, at least a good thirty feet.

The four bodies on the ground were still swirling about within the tornado they had generated, but one of them was caught by the awe of the Alastor Gaurdian. Apparently he wasn't effected by such a weak wind. the blade hit him head on in the side, bu though he was flesh, he was also just a replication and so vanished as if he were an illusion, having already submitted a third of his avilable ki (33 million) to his assailant. The other three realized the iritating dangers of this leech like being and escaped the hold of the tornado and dispersed it, as well as themselves, becoming nothing more than clouds of mist that covered the ring floor until further notice.

Back in the sky, Keno was gazing at Protean with a glow in his eyes that his challenger had yet to recognize. The reason his speed wasn't working too greatly to his advantage was because of Keno's Shunkido Trace technique, which could catch any speed, even instantaneous ones. It wasn't his fault if the beast hadn't figured it out yet, and was of no consequence to him. He was pretty sure of what was next to come so took back to the ground, his airborne clone taking after Protean do deliver a hammershot to the skull and sent the wolven creature ramming into the ring, where he would wait on the paitently descending Keno. Whether or not the attack succeed didn't matter much, as the clone would also disappear immediately after, leaving Pro and Alastor no choice but to come after the only physical Keno remaining.

To be honest, that really seems to be it. I guess I should explain some terms to you.

OOC - this term means Out of Character. Basically any thing you say or do that is not relevant to the roleplay is considered OOC. However you have to be sure to mark OOC. The current way we mark OOC text is by using double parentheses (()) or <<>>.

IC - In Character. This is basically how you will be roleplaying (everything I told you before is for IC). Just follow the rules I gave you and it'll be alright.

IRL - this means In Real Life. We usually use this term in OOC talk so that people know the difference between our actions and experiences in the fantasy world and the real one. i.e. <>

I really don't know what else to say so...questions?

hai... how do I make a character
PostPosted: Sun May 14, 2006 3:13 pm

That my dear is totally up to you. Look at the character profiles thread to get a basic idea. If your character isn't a fighter, a lot of that stuff can be omitted.
