"Because if I devise a system of filing, it will only result in what you see before you now. I tend to think that if I know where everything is, I'm fine. Every time I try to organize I forget where I put things and then I get all in a fit because I can't get what I'm looking for fast enough." She closed the file and sealed it, tossing it on her desk without much thought to it. "I'm going to end up with a variant on my hands..."
Couldn't be helped. The Echo couldn't stay in its current condition much longer. Seemed its development of certain traits common to its kind was slow. Either that or a mishap in genetics had been done. Which meant it was either Jelena's fault or a lab tech messed something up. That would be found out later. Jelena rocked on her toes once then smiled to Lilia. "Would you rather watch an Echo come to life?"

Lillia dropped the files in her hand and her blue eyes lit up so bright Jelena needed sunglasses to stare her in the face. It was like she was being given a giant cookie with every kind of candy she loved all sprinkled in happy colors and flavors on top. She could hardly contain her enthusiasm.
Clasping her hands and flashing her million dollar smile she said breathlessly. "Can I? Really? Oh my gosh...I'm gonna get to see an Echo...come alive!" Happy...was not the word. Ecstatic barely described it. Something akin to complete joy filled her and she was just so...happy.

James, after having passworded himself and ecrypted said passwording, was onboard Radiance, casually looking through a magazine at an article on the fleet, and the general distaste for Dr. Jelena 'playing God' by religious groups as well as certain government officials. Like they had any damn idea what was going on in the first place around here. But he set the magazine back down after reading the article, and picked up his bags of purchases and headed back to project Echo. first stop, the new assistant's room, drop off a pair of gravity boots, and a small book about space travel and adjusting to it.
Then to his quarters, setting down other bags of ready to eat meals, and then to Rennel's room, dropping off a three disk set about the kinds of implant upgrades available to him. Then back to Jelena's office, to see if there was anything she needed, before he went to the firing range for a hour or two.

Rennell was sulking on Ingenuity again. No Rose bud to play around with, and everyone else was doing important things. Back to his room he was surprised to find something rather useful to him. Which made him look around in paranoid fashion. "How does he do that...oh yeah...he hacks into everyone's business..." He grabbed what looked like a CD player with a virtual reality visor attached instead of headphones. Setting the visor on, he popped in a disk and proceeded to review the information on the disk as he clipped the player to his belt and took to sulking the halls once again.
Jelena merely laughed as Lilia dropped the papers. "Now you're getting the hang of it." Then she turned to the doors and called down the hall. "ERIK! I'M PULLING P-2BM OUT OF HIS STASIS! PUT AN ALERT OUT IN THE PROJECT ZONE AND LOCK DOWN THE ENVIRONMENT! BRING A VARIANT TAG TOO!" Scream of course, why use the conveniently placed GODDS? But a look back to the happy Lilia. Kid in a candy store indeed. "Try to contain yourself, I don't allow too much noise or stimulus right off around the new Echoes." And then a motion to follow as she used her PAID tag to get back into the laboratory areas.

He heard the shout, and shook his head, looking at Dr. Jelena.
"You know, that is the reason you installed teh G.O.D.D you know. so you wouldn't have to shout at the top of your lungs."
A look at the papers on the floor, and a smirk.
"And I see you got your barbs into her already. I was going to ask, is there anything you need me for, concerning the Echoes? I know some of the larger ones I handle a bit easier than your other assistant, Erik does. If not I was going to go to the shooting range."
Then a look to Lilia.
"I got you some grav boots and a book on living in space as well. and I got Mr. Sunshine some more information on upgrades to his eyepeice alteration."

Lillia stared at Jelena and jumped when she yelled. She wasn't used to yelling. She listened in horrified fascination as Jelena told Erik exactly what was happening. Blinking a few times, she grabbed the edge of the desk and cringed.
Then she straightened and nodded. "I'll be quiet." It didn't take long for her to follow Jelena and she walked to the door. It was on a timer and slammed shut just as she was about to cross the threshold. Instead of moving into the room she was supposed to...she bumped into the door. "Ouch..." Rubbing her head she stepped back. "Hmm..."
She looked at her wrist and saw her P.A.I.D. tag and raised it to the scanner and made a movement. A buzzing sound followed. "Oookay..." Time to try again. Buzz. Still okay. And again...buzz. Okay, now she was getting a bit upset. So she tried it faster. Soon she was waving her arm faster and faster and gesticulating. It wasn't working. She grabbed a hold of the door and pulled...but it wasn't budging.
Shaking her head she backed off and turned around to go back to the office, where she ran into James. She grinned at James and said happily, "Why thank you Mr. Moria. You didn't have to..." She looked at her toes, "Umm...do you know how to...umm...open the...you know...he door?" She kind of nodded with her head in the general direction and looked at him hopefully.

James nodded lightly, and ran his PAID over the scanner, and smirked when the door didn't open.
"Let me guess. She told you she wanted to let you see the birth of an Echo, right? she's done this to Erik a couple of times as well. Woman is more secretive about her Echoes when they are 'born' than a spy is with his identity."
Back to her office, and hitting the GODD. would probably piss her off, but she needed to stop being like this to people. he hooked his cable onto the GODD, and re routed the system so only the one in the office and the one in the echo labs were viable.
"Dr. Jelena, the assisant you offered to show the birth of an Echo too, you left out in the cold here."

Jelena hadn't even noticed that Lilia hadn't made the timer on the door.She was busy typing in a series of codes into the computer screen next to one of the glass columns.
Though the door that led back to the labs promptly opened and Erik poked his head out and smiled in a goofish way. "Lesson one, when following Trevy always stay two steps behind and no more. Now come on back here. You two if you would like James." A motion to them both before he let them both in then let the door slide shut and lock out anyone else. "This way." he said as he led them both to the particular lab room.
Still in her own world, it was oddly quiet in the room. Just the click of keyboard keys really was all that was there. The lab techs knew better than to say anything right now. The glass column was promptly drained of the rather thick liquid, leaving an Echo on it's floor. Then the glass raised.
Two lab techs grabbed the thing by its hoofed feet and lifted it then carried it to the middle of the room where they laid it on the floor. Never mind the slimy mess it was, that's why the floor had a drain in it. This is where the love that Jelena had for her Echoes was seen as uncaring she knelt in the gelatinous mess that was coming off the thing and grabbed it by its muzzle gentle, wiping the stuff off.
"Welcome to the world." It blinked sleepily at her as stuff was wiped away from it's eyes and took a few deep breaths as it gained consciousness. A motion behind her and Erik moved over, handing her a flashlight. The Echo jumped as she clicked it on and shone if on the creature, seemingly checking its shadow. A click of her tongue and she clicked off the light. "Variant." Then as it started to rouse itself she backed off, now a mess herself and motioned others to back off and give it space as well.
It looked like a normal dear, a buck. This Echo had been kept in it's stasis until it's adult stages of life. Except that it had wings...and a bird like tail. Both avian appendages had bright feathers that spanned the spectrum of blues and greens. It now shook its head and snorted once as it attempted several times to stand, after about the eighth time, finding its feet.

Lillia watched in stunned silence as the Echo was pulled out of the goo that was all over the floor. She was not too big on goo but when it came to animals she would do anything. Her eyes wide she chose to simply watch.
Then an intake of breath as the baby Echo...though it really was not a baby, tried to stand. She could not help it, the words that escaped. "Aww he's trying to stand. Just like a baby fawn."
She wanted to touch him badly but she knew she would probably get into trouble if she did. Temptation was horrible though. Finally she walked forward, avoiding the goo and reached out a hand. "Raedon."

James was a statue for all the movement or sound he made, watching an Echo come into the world, though he had no idea what kind of mythological creature it was based on. only sounds from him was teh occasionaly whirl of components in his head adding things to his digital memory. A glance at Erik, and then at Lilia, before crossing his arms lightly, that permenant look of seriousness etched into his face.

Jelena absentmindedly took hold of a towel that Erik had been holding out, in her oh so common daze when it came to these things. A few techs gasped or threw a hand over their mouths as Lilia dared to reach out and touch it...then they waited for the screaming.
But screaming they did not get. Instead they got rather quiet vocals from the good Doctor Trevale. "Is that what you want to call him?" He was after all a Variant. Odds were, he wouldn't be getting along with the others of his make, for so was the problem of the Variant Echoes. "Raedon it is then."
Now a stern look to everyone as she was wiping goo from her hands. "Out! Everyone out! Techs, assistants bio-mechanical wonders, all of you out!" And this was the part where it got weird on everyone. Techs promptly left thought.
A pat to Lilia's shoulder and then a normal grin to James, who also knew this part all to well about Jelena. "Don't worry Lilia, this is how she gets. You'll see him again in a good few...hours...why not go explore the rest of the fleet?" A nod to James. "Don't let her get lost." And then he was gone too, leaving Jelena to her own bred craziness.

She smiled softly. It seemed her mark was going to be left on this project after all. "I think he's going to be a sweet one." She shook her head and wondered where Raedon had come from. She was sure it meant something but at this point in time, she was not entirely sure.
Nodding to Erik, she looped her arm through James' and walked back out of the room behind the filing techs and other workers. She had an entire fleet of ships to explore and she would not let Erik's comment about her getting lost stop her from having fun either.
Skipping along she looked around the hall and realized that with an entire fleet, well she would definitely get lost. So she let go of James' arm and walked in frotn of him with her eyes doing that 'hopeful' expression again. "Be my tour guide?"

"There...that ought to do it!" Edgar had put the finishing touches on repairing a fellow worker's forearm. It was damaged from an accident while on the job.
"Wow...that was rather fast! You're getting the hang of this, man."
"Neh, I have a knack for this sort of thing, I guess." The two said their goodbyes, then Edgar gazed to his arm to check the time from NITWIT. It was later than he expected. "Well...someone else can handle the tweaking for a while...I haven't been up and about to see if anything's happend on the other ships yet!" Edgar exited out of his office, looking for someone to talk to. Not to his surprise, only a few people could be seen, and they seemed rather busy. Except for one...one who was sulking down the halls. He wasn't sure if he should talk to this one or not, but his curiosity got the best of him. "Excuse me...sir?"

James grinned lightly.
"Biomechanical wonder. I like that."
And he walked out with Lilia, and chuckled when she gave him the puppy eyes and the question abut being the tour guide.
"I can't promise to know the whole fleet. My experience is rather limited to projects Catalyst, Metamorphosis and Echo. But if you want, lets take a look around Raidiance, maybe you can do some shopping and sightseeing. buy some gifts for friends or family back on earth?"
And so much for the shooting range right away. he could show her that later, anyway.

Renell literally jumped a few feet, aided of course by his MATU system. But he promptly put his feet on the ground and pushed the visor he was using up to rest on top of his head while putting the little CD player-esk computer on standby.
Ren looked him over a moment and decided that this was one person that he wasn't too familiar with...which was odd. Perhaps he was just one of the workers that was better warned about Rennell's so called, sunshine like personality. Hey that was just the way he was.
And so was his personality he grabbed the guys hand and gave it a firm shake. "Pleased to meet you, Rennell's the name. You don't need my project code, it's took tedious. Nice to meet you." Oh yeah, sunshine.
