Batsu was now getting into the book. The boy was starting to grasp the concept of why people act how they react when provoked by an outside catalyst. For example, in his previous encounter with the librarian, she reacted because she was provoked by Batsu . Combine that with the first time he caused a problem and she snapped. Batsu grasped this and wondered just how much he could do to a person... not just by genjutsu alone, but by behavior alone. The boy continued to read.

"Behaviorism originated with the work of John B. Watson. Watson claimed that psychology was not concerned with the mind or with human consciousness. Instead, psychology would be concerned only with behavior. In this way, men could be studied objectively, like rats and apes."

Batsu rolled his eyes as he skimmed through the page. Batsu could care less about where something came from, he was more fascinated by how and why something is. So as far as he was concerned, the Watson fellow guy was irrelevant to him. Batsu sighed as he kept reading.

"Behaviorism is associated today with the name of B.F. Skinner, who made his reputation by testing Watson’s theories in the laboratory. Skinner’s studies led him to reject Watson’s almost exclusive emphasis on reflexes and conditioning. People respond to their environment, he argued, but they also operate on the environment to produce certain consequences."

Batsu continued to read despite the fact that he was not getting what he needed to make him more versed in behaviorism. All he was learning was a crummy name and what they did. Batsu didn't care. He kept reading and prayed that there was more to the book than names and accolades.

"Skinner developed the theory of “operant conditioning,” the idea that we behave the way we do because this kind of behavior has had certain consequences in the past. For example, if your girlfriend gives you a kiss when you give her flowers, you will be likely to give her flowers when you want a kiss. You will be acting in expectation of a certain reward. Like Watson, however, Skinner denied that the mind or feelings play any part in determining behavior. Instead, our experience of reinforcements determines our behavior."

By now, Batsu was getting deep into the book. He was loving the fact that he could manipulate people and get them to act based on what he did. It caused a sadistic smirk to sneak up onto his face. He couldn't put the book down, Batsu HAD to learn more.

"Behaviorism originated in the field of psychology, but it has had a much wider influence. Its concepts and methods are used in education, and many education courses at college are based on the same assumptions about man as behaviorism. Behaviorism has infiltrated sociology, in the form of sociobiology, the belief that moral values are rooted in biology."

Once again, the book talked about the where and when and Batsu lost interest... again. By now, Batsu grew irritated and he frantically began to skip pages so he could focus more on how stuff worked.

After a few missed pages, he began reading again.

"Behaviorism is naturalistic. This means that the material world is the ultimate reality, and everything can be explained in terms of natural laws. Man has no soul and no mind, only a brain that responds to external stimuli."

Batsu blinked a few times. Apparently, skipping ahead threw the boy for a loop. He didn't grasp anything that was read. The poor guy couldn't help but stare at the words with a dumbfounded look. Batsu had no choice but to flip back to the previous pages and read what was there, much to his dismay.

NOW, Batsu was starting to understand again, and was feeling really stupid for trying to skip ahead of the book. At least he learned a valuable lesson when it came to reading. He learned that no matter what the circumstance, keep going. There's always something you need to know. Well, with that said, he kept reading.

"Behaviorism teaches that we are not responsible for our actions. If we are mere machines, without minds or souls, reacting to stimuli and operating on our environment to attain certain ends, then anything we do is inevitable. Sociobiology, a type of behaviorism, compares man to a computer: Garbage in, garbage out."

Batsu took a seat on the ground and continued to read. The boy was getting deeper and deeper into the book. He was loving the idea of being in charge of others in a psychological sense.

"Behaviorism is manipulative. It seeks not merely to understand human behavior, but to predict and control it. From his theories, Skinner developed the idea of “shaping.” By controlling rewards and punishments, you can shape the behavior of another person."

Both of Batsu's eyebrows rose when he read that he could manipulate others based upon his actions. Of course he didn't want to use methods on his future team members, that would cause a bunch of issues and would not be a good thing later on down the road. But for battles, it would definitely prove to be a great asset to him. But that wasn't gonna be anytime soon, so he pushed the idea to the back of his mind for the time being.

"Who will use the tools? Who will pull the strings? Who will manipulate the technology? No doubt, Skinner would say that only someone trained in behavioral theory and practice would be qualified to “shape” the behavior of other persons. But this is contrary to the biblical view, which commands us to love our neighbor, not to manipulate him."

Great, just what he needed... a quiz. Batsu didn't care. He just bypassed the questions in the book. There was not any valuable information in the page, so why bother?

"Many critics argue that behaviorism is a one-dimensional approach to behavior and that behavioral theories do not account for free will and internal influences such as moods, thoughts, and feelings."

While Batsu continued to read the book and strategize on how to use this wealth of information, he found himself back in his own world. This time, however, he pictured random situations and how to react to them. His vivid mind pictured himself talking to aone of his team mates. The imaginary boy was a few inches taller than him and had blond hair and blue eyes. In Batsu's eyes, the boy was pretty cute. The two were flirting a bit and were completing a mission at the same time. Batsu was making subtle passes as was the other male. As he continued to paint this mental picture, he just ran his eyes over the next page.

"Behaviorism is based upon observable behaviors, so it is easier to quantify and collect data and information when conducting research."

Batsu didn't give a care about not fully... or barely... understanding the page. He was too much into thinking about this imaginary boy in his mind. While him and Batsu were "talking", he lost focus in the book entirely. That was a downfall of Batsu's, during fights and arguments and such, he was a terror. He was devoted to what is required and if anyone was to steer him away then they were persistant and lucky.

However, when it came to recreation, Batsu had a low attention span and was notorious for daydreaming.

Batsu continued to "read".

"Effective therapeutic techniques such as intensive behavioral intervention, token economies, and discrete trial training are all rooted in behaviorism. These approaches are often very useful in changing maladaptive or harmful behaviors in both children and adults."

Batsu kept talking to this dream boy until he snapped out of it and realized where he was and what he was doing. He was here to read, not to think about some random guy that served no benefit to him.

Batsu growled at himself and smacked himself in the face slightly, since he didn't wanna awaken the beast known as the librarian. The boy shook his head furiously and went back to reading.

"Behaviorism originated with Ivan Pavlov, who used classical conditioning to teach dogs to salivate at the sound of a bell. B.F. Skinner later added the concepts of reinforcement and punishment in his theory of operant conditioning"
