None of my band directors have ever tolerated it, which is 100% fine by me. Their logic behind banning it is sound, and to be honest I hate gum. It's disgusting.

If getting called out in the middle of rehearsal leading to the next 5-Minutes of humiliation counts as punishment....then i'd say yes.>.<*

Some of my sophomore flute players chew gum during rehearsal. I make them go spit it out, then they give the, "WHAT WHY? I'm totally innocent. :3" act. Ugh. So annoying.
Why would you want to risk chewing gum while marching (with all the panting involved) or playing (messes up your instrument, air stream...). Ugh.

yeah we just have to spit it out, but if you do other stuff that day too, our BD might throw stuff at you, especially the baton. it doesnt matter as much if we arent playing though. but since a trumpet player in the army jazz band plays trumpet w/gum & was REALLY good, some of the trumpets wanted to try

Wolfish Beauty In my band, if you get caught chewing gum, it's an automatic 50 push-ups! And your not allowed to do the girl kind either....which sucks... xp we do push ups too, just not for gum

My BD makes us spit it out during band. But he lets us eat breakfast and lunch in there. But if we leave trash all over the room he won't let us eat in the band room. Especially since one time someone left a milk carton (still had some milk in it) up on the highest shelf up in the percussion section and boy was he pissed, because I think it was in there for a few months before we did a clean out of like duffle bags and stuff from there. He was pretty pissed.....

God I'd hope people get punished for that in the bandroom. It's nasty and it can much up your instrument or equipment, even if you're not a wind player. Ever tried to get gum off a flag?

Well, mine is not as strict as alot of them I see here, my BD just makes you get up and throw it away for the first time. If he keeps catching you it hurts your grade. He has made people stay after school. But I always thought... What if it went through your WHOLE instrument and hit someone... xD

My high school BD simply doesn't allow it..
however, my middle school BD would make you add it to the "gum wad"
then you'd have to chew a piece from said "gum wad."
Obviously, not many dared to chew.
