"Wow......what a rush!" Syla managed to catch herself before falling from the sudden bloodrush to the head. It was something a person clearly had to get used to.

Sliding off of Maderiks' back, she gazed about the small hillside. "It's alright....at least Ayvia and I won't have to wait long. Ether way, it's still a bit nerve-wracking." A sudden chill swept through her body, causing goosebumps to appear. "Well.......is there a place where water is? Ayvia is thristy."

"Stream at the base of the hill. I'll take you." Rin started off down the hill and to the bottom, where a shallow stream wound its way around the rocky base. She hopped on top of one of the larger boulders and watched Syla and Ayvia.

"So where are you from?" she asked, "You're not from where I was born cause I don't recognize your accent."

As Ayvia played in the cool waters, Syla pulled off her headress revealing shoulder-length black-brown hair and fair skin. She grinned sheepishly, embarassed at some of the information she was about to reveal.

"I come from a small village within the great woods. My people have lived there for generations, isolated from the rest of the world......that is, until my great-grandfather became a bonded." She sighed, listening to Ayvias' happy chirps before continuing.

"My village.....doesn't exactly approve of dragons, so he and Zrack fled to the mountains. I guess it was about......six hundred years later that grandpa started his own family when he came back. When I was born....he raised me, teaching me about the healing arts and the dragons themselves. Unfortunatly......dragon hunters found out where he and his dragon were so they.....they posioned them both with dragons' bane."

Syla paused again to wipe the tears from her eyes, the memories were painful. "I'm sorry....it's just that.....they were my closest family..." Clearing her throat, she continued: "Just before he died, Zrack gave Ayvia to me; he wanted his bonded grandchild to share a life with his own child. Afterwards...i'd say about five years later, Ayvia hatched and we left the village. Everything from there is just travel until we came to the hatching grounds."

Rin listened carefully, dangling her toes in the clear water below. She stared thoughtfully at the sky.

"You know then, as a Dragon-Bound myself, that Maderik can dip into my concious thoughts at will. I thought you should know that he's been listening in to what you told me." And she winced as a sudden stab of irritation from the dragon flared in her mind. "By giving you that egg your grandfather doomed you to be become a Dragon-Bound yourself. It's inevitable that your hatchling will want to bind you when she is old enough. I certainly hope that your bond will be happier than most."

She hopped off the rock and landed in ankle-deep water, the sudden movement stirring up a cloud of sand from the stream bottom.

"Lots of people have died because of dragons and dragon hunters. Get used to it. Your grandfather and his dragon are only the first of many others you're going to see from here out. Maderik and I will be at the top of the hill. When you're done, come back up."

She walked away and back up to the ruins.

Eyal observed the approaching commotion with a mildly interested gaze, but he did not run over as the others did. As the human arrived, he walked towards it slowly, not coming near enough to touch it, just to see it. He observed as Asariel and Zera pounced on the human thing, and a little green hatchling arrived from the humans arms.
Still, he remained where he was. There was something about these humans, these creatures, that he did not quite understand. It wasn't just that they were a different species, it was something else. And though he could not quite name this feeling he knew it was there. Snorting, he turned away, disinterested again as that other human came with the big black dragon.

And then something happened that Eyal could not rationalize nor explain. It flew. The big black dragon, with both humans and the green hatchling, took to the skies and flew through them as a bird might. He stared at it, the majestic figure in the sky. And then, suddenly and intensly he felt it. He wasn't sure if any of the others had, for they did nothing more than stare and wonder. But he could feel it, feel it's absence as acutly he would a limb that was gone. That ability, that flight he knew. And yet he could not grasp it. It was his, he knew that, and yet it was not his. He turned to look at his back where the small fins stuck out. No, they were not the problem. It was something more, something deeper. what was this feeling? Loss? But, how could he lose something that he didn't have to begin with? He crooned softly, confused. He did not understand. Why? No, he must do something, must find answers...

Zera soon lost sight of the older dragon ,that of all things it could do, fly! Nut she knew the general direction the older dragon had gone. She continued to pelt after it, not seeming to be able to tire. Her baby mind was fading and turning into an intellegent dragons mind, but even when her mind told her to go back to the nesting areas she ignored it, what left of her hatchling mind set on finding the older dragon.

Meanwhile, back at camp, an egg cracked and the oddest little hatchling emeraged from th egg. He seemed depressing. His face set into a frown, even though, he had just hatched. He looked around himself and imeadiatly wished he were back inside his egg. The outside world was so...depressing. He wasn't really depressed himself, just cold, and wanted oh so much to jump into a puddle of water. He looked about himself once more, still looking disapointed, then trotted off to find some other hatchlings.

"Humph........I don't mind being bonded, I just want Ayvia to live a full and happy life."

She watched as Rin walked up towards the ruins, leaving Ayvia and herself but the streambed. Leaning back, she pondered what Rin had said, "Hm.........'Doomed to become a Dragon-bonded', eh? Well.....I don't mind that much..." She reached over and placed the hatchling in her lap, stroking the sun-warmed scales. "As long as it's with you, I don't mind that much." Syla smiled at Ayvia, who gave a happy "peep" and licked her cheek, blue eyes sparkling with love.

"Alright you, let's get back to Rin and Maderik. They are waiting for us."

Rin was laying on the top of a crumbled wall, a book in her hands. She was silently mouthing each word and it was apparent that she couldn't read very fast. Maderik lay not too far away, in a patch of sun, curled up like a cat with his tail touching his nose and apparently asleep. Neither looked up at Syla.

Ayvia bounced from her humans' arms and waddled towards the sleeping dragon. Ever curious, she climbed onto his back and batted at his wings playfully.

"Hey Rin.......Has the dragon Council called for us yet?" Syla was nervous....what if...what if they took Ayvia away? What if they hurt her? So many what-ifs were running through her mind.

"It'll be some time yet before they do. If you're bored I have some books inside," Rin said, waving her hand towards the house, "Don't expect much though. I don't go into human towns very often. It makes me nervous."

She went back to her reading.

I'm bored.
It's REALLY hot in here.
Why won't this thing break?
I'm stuck!

The clouds over the hatchery turned a menancing shade of gray, and began to clump together. They did so quickly, and within mere minutes the clouds had gathered into a full on storm. A great crack of thunder rolled across the the clouds, and the wind picked up causing the surrounding trees to bend slightly. Yet another crash sounded through out the sky, and this time, it brought a few flashes of deep purple lightning with it. They began far off, but soon grew closer. The thunder rolled more violently and the lightining became closer and brighter. Suddenly, with the loudest whip of thunder yet, a bright flash of lighting snapped into the hatchery and directly struck an egg. Then, as soon as the storm had come, it was gone.

The egg shattered, leaving a bright red and striped dragon hatchiling lying spread eagle in the dirt. She blinked a few times, then proceeded to screw up her face and let out a great sneeze. A 'rawrk!' sounding noise came from her throat as she sneezed, and a small bit of fire came out of her nostrils. Her eyes opened back up quickly, and this time she noticed a blue dragon hatchling near her. She giggled, while looking at him, in her embarrassment over her sneezing display.

A white egg, clumped in with a small nest of others, shook slightly and cracked. After a moment, a small ivory nose worked its way through a hole in the egg, followed by the rest of the fog-colored dragon. His spiky, gray mane flopped over his face as he made his way over the other eggs into the grass, keeping low to the ground in an effort not to be noticed.

Stepping on one of the other hatchling's tail was not exactly a way to be silent in hiding. He bounded behind a tree, staring at the red hatchling in bemusement and what looked like a little fear.

Tuono attempted to bound eagerly to her feet at the sight of another hatchling, but instead slipped back onto her stomach, her wobbly legs flinging about wildly. She tried several more times, then finally gave up with a sigh, still in her original spread eagle position. She glanced to her side again to see the fog-colored dragon still peering from the tree. Not about to give up completely on her first chance at meeting someone new, she began to roll toward him. She came to a stop on her side a few feet away from him, and lifted her head to get a better look. She gave the hatchling a smile, or as much of one as a dragon could muster.

With a swishing tail of violet and wispy gray, and eyes of smokey white, Azariah watched as the newly born hatchling stepped on teh tail of another. A dragon-like smile on her face, she gave a small chuckle, laying her head on her clawed hands. Her feathers fell over her left eye as she did so.

The youngling's claws had a strange purple glow around them, as did the circling rocks around her head. Since her aging, her powers had become stronger. Just strong enough.

"Rarwk? Such cute little ones......" she muttered, watching as the younger of the hatchling his. Azariah was just behind that one, but didn't seemed to be noticed.

He dropped lower into the grass, blue eyes narrowed at the other hatchling as he backed away, bearing his teeth in a warning: Stay away from me, please. So caught up in his busy intimidation of Tuono was he, that he didn't even notice when his tail hit Azariah's front leg; only when he could back up no further did he stop to look.
