Illuminatus strode through the thick mist of the falls, reaching out with his newfound powers to mentally explore his surroundings. He noticed the Empress sitting atop a small boulder near the waterfall's foamy sheet. He bowed and stood before her. "I have come, as you have bidden me."

Lord Illuminatus Illuminatus strode through the thick mist of the falls, reaching out with his newfound powers to mentally explore his surroundings. He noticed the Empress sitting atop a small boulder near the waterfall's foamy sheet. He bowed and stood before her. "I have come, as you have bidden me." So you have, Youngling. The rest of our training from here on will be done without weapons, but with only the use of the Force. Think of it as a crash course. She points the pond, it's surface clear and glistening the tiny gravel keeps the pond from being murky. Once in awhile you see movement under the surface.I wish for you to cross this large pond to the other side. The pond looks soothing and calmDon't let it fool you, Youngling. There are sandtrap fish in there that are big enough to take off your whole leg. I will sit here and meditate until you are finished. She sits down and shuts her eyes. She is oblivious to you now...

Illuminatus sat down as well, focusing his newfound power at the water. He tried to cause it to knit like a polymer, but didn't have the force control. So he did what he was best at- he ferreted out the threats and neutralized them. With a mental probe, he discovered the locations of all dangerous creatures in the pond and used the smallest amount of force to sever a nerve in their brain, rendering them paralyzed. When he was confident that all threats were neutralized, he kicked off into the pond, doing a rather excellent breaststroke, oddly unfettered by the large black cloak that streamed behind him in the water.

As he manipulated the life within the water, the cloaked figure of Grim made his way to watch. He observed the actions, then grinned beneath his bone mask. He shuffled around his bag and pulled out a small cylinder. He flicked a switch on it, and tossed the cylinder, no bigger than half his thumb, into the water. As the cylinder touched the surface, it began to emit a charge of electricity out. It ran out of power after a few moments, but it would leave Illuminatus with great pain, and some of his muscles burned. Should the young man manage to get to the other side, Grim would be waiting there, watching silently.

Illuminatus's lips curled into a feral smile. His skills as an inventor had brought him in close contact with anything from lightning to a Tesla coil. His body temperature lowered as he focused his power, aura causing the water around him to accumulate a thin coating of ice. Ignoring the terrible pulsing of the cylinder, he concentrated, feeling atoms split and negative ions spray in every direction. The entire pond lit up with electrical fire as discharge corona surrounded Illuminatus, shimmering and crackling. Illuminatus swam on, determined to reach the other side. His muscles were aching, his head throbbing and his hair singing, but the negative ions were something no electrical charge could resist. The electrons flowed from the device, leaping from one H20 molecule to the next, then sizzling to complete the ion's charge, leaving Illuminatus largely unscathed. Just as Illuminatus's power ran dry, his feet touched bottom. The forced contraction of his muscles by the electricity threw him from the pond, where he landed heavily on the other side. Gasping for breath, and trying to calm his irregular heartbeat, he forced his screaming legs and arms into a meditative posture, and focused on staying alive. Had he not escaped, he would have gone into cardiac arrest and been killed.

Grim nodded, and moved over to Illuminatus. "It's good to see a learner who can think on their feet. What is your name?"
As he spoke, Grim held his cape over himself. The scales and his helmet gave the overall effect of making him look like a large serpent with a skull for a head.

Illuminatus waited until he was sure his voice would be steady, and said without moving, "My name is Lord Illuminatus. Your reputation precedes you; you must surely be the one known as Grim." Illuminatus was silent after that, remaining motionless on the singed ground.

"I got here on my ship, the Eclipse Shadow. I come from a far land, a dark planet full of storms known as Sarádwan. The location of this planet is a secret we reveal to none, for it is deep in the unknown regions. I am Emir Shadow, the Lord of Ered Sineth, the only civilized city on Sarádwan. I discovered recently that I have the power of the force, and came to the known regions seeking to focus and control that power." Illuminatus chose his words carefully, not revealing anything important, but not sounding deliberately taciturn.

Grim replied, " Great power, unchecked by experience leads to dissolution and annihilation. The path may be clear, but seeing it and walking it are far different tasks. Before considering reconnecting with other cities, you would be wise to consolidate your power and make sure that while you're busy fighting a war in the east, the home front doesn't fall to politics, rebels, or pirates. If you build a strong government, a strong economy, everything else will come in line. Make sure what you have set in place is strong before expanding. Make sure it will last past your lifetime. For there are many Empires that rise, then fall after the founder dies. Only if you can make one that lasts will you be remembered in history. And remember, even if you have great force at your disposal, words can be far more persuasive. If your foes think you are just a man, all the better. For they will not expect you to be able to kill them should they attempt assassination. What do you have to say to these words?"
