Sayuri listened closely once more, making sure file away any words that she didnt understand. 'Sayuri is Geisha every day.' she commented. Which wasnt technically true, she hadnt turned her collar, and never would. But in her heart she felt that having a Danna, and meeting so many people on this far away place was as good as becoming one. She had lost her Maiko hairstyle after all, and gained a new one. 'Oh,' she smiled. 'Sabin-san has idea and will not tell Sayuri?' she pretended to pout, then broke in giggles. 'Star-ah Wars?' she rolled the syllables on her tongue. 'It is a movie?' She wondered how many of those things there were. There was the bad one about Geisha that Sid had told her of. 'What is about please?'

The smile was infectious, he couldn't help but let it spring to his face as well, and chuckled along with the girl.
"Yes, it is a movie. It is.... a classic, as they say. Loved by millions, some to the point of obsession." He chuckled. "But it is good nonetheless, and will probably even cross language barriers. It is... a science fiction? But, the story is more like an epic. Good versus evil, swordsmen who follow traditions like the samurai." Sabin made swishing movements with his hands.
"And yes, the costume.... it will be a surprise."

Sayuri drank a sip of sake from her own cup, placing it down and then picking up the bottle, raising it towards Sabin's cup. She nodded at his description of the movie. 'It sound interesting.' she said. 'I will watch, and maybe see costume that Sabin is so kind to give me.' She paused, still holding aloft the sake bottle; 'Is Sabin-san well? I hope he will tell me what he has been doing since we last saw each other.' She hoped she didnt come across as nosey, just interested. She wanted to know what he did when he wasnt with her.

Sabin held up his hand at the offer of more sake.
"I hope that you will like it. You will have to tell me what you think." Sabin said with a nod.
"And... me? I have... been mostly working. I am sure that the intracacies of my job would bore you."

She put the bottle down, almost toppling it as she did so but managed to right it before it spilt. 'I will.' Of course she would! Any excuse to speak with him some more. Speach wasnt what she really wanted from Sabin - she was burning with curiosity about the kissing stuff but she would never throw herself at him. 'Sabin-san think Sayuri have small mind.' she said sadly, melodramatically. 'I want to know. I like hearing Sabin speak about what he does, even if I not get every tricky word.'

Another chuckle was hidden politely by his hand at her near-spill.
"I do not think you have a small mind, but few people are as interested in my work as I am. And there are a lot of technical terms... but to put it briefly, I have been working on developing some more serums, monitering the changes of some individuals. And helping with the Halloween plans, of course." The smug smile returned.

'What is the monitering?' Sayuri asked, prodding him gently. What was he laughing at? His hand might have hidden his mouth but his eyes gave him away. Oh well, at least she amused him. That was something after all. '..does my Danna.' she asked carefully but put a tiny bit more emphasis on the word 'my'. 'Sit down with many women like this?'

"Monitering... keeping track of their health, and how the changes have affected them. Making sure that they stay healthy though the project and that there are no complications."
He shook his head. "No, this is not a common occurence for me. I have few friends here. But perhaps it is for the best..... it keeps me focused." His voice dropped to indicate a mote of bitterness.

'How do you do this without seeing person every day?' Sayuri asked, more then a little confused. She had not seen Sabin every day, and had not been to the Lab building area since their dinner together. 'Sabin-san sounds unhappy. Can Sayuri help?' she shuffled a might closer, trailing fingers first on his arm closest to her and then daring to rest her head on his shoulder. 'I do not want Sabin to be sad.'

"There are monitering devices of a sort." Sabin responded evenly. "After all... we have to look out for those in our care."
He shook his head with a wave of his hand. "I am not unhappy. I have... I have plenty to be happy and excited about. We are making unbelievable advances, and I am making incredible progress on my projects."

'You have ways to see people?' Sayuri was confused. That was what looking was wasnt it? 'But..' she paused a moment then continued. 'Sabin-san does not always sound happy. I care for my Danna,' she spoke into his sleeve, the hand now clutching his arm, and then moved using the arm to push her face next to his. Quickly she brushed her lips on him, a light kiss near his mouth, not quite brave enough was she to kiss him fully - and not knowing how she did not want to embarrass herself.

It felt as if a board had suddenly replaced his spine; Sabin went rigid at the kiss, his eyes darting to her and a hand reaching up to brush the spot on his cheek.
His voice died in his throat as he was about to launch into an explanation - albeit roundabout enough to likely confused the woman still getting a handle on English - regarding the cameras.
He swallowed and whet his lips as he rose to his feet. What did he expect? Aubrey would likely accuse him of leading her on just as he did Awen. After all, isn't that what he was doing? Acting kind, speaking to them, learning about them and abusing their sympathy.
He shook his head, steeling himself. Perhaps he had let this go far enough. This was not something that could work. It had begun as an exploitation of the reason she was here, a way to manipulate and he would be damned if she got under his skin.
"You should not waste your sentiment on one such as me." His voice was stilted. "I am not deserving. I am a bad man, as I am sure anyone here will tell you. I have done bad things, and your affection for me will not stop me from doing them." His eyes flared indignantly as he took in a severe breath through his nose. It was a defense, he knew it just as he was speaking the words, and yet they were the truth nonetheless. He was too far down his dark spiral for her to pull him out. Maybe he didn't want to be pulled out. Maybe he liked it down here, without the guilt, without the pain. Sayuri, above all, was naive, an innocent. And being with him would only soil that.
"And you cannot replace that which I have lost." He said with a note of finality as he turned his back, stepping towards the door.
Why did he come here? Why did he even allow himself such illusions? Bringing her a gift... sharing a drink with her. He shouldn't have drunk. But what a tempting poison alcohol is... With enough of it, any memory can be drowned - with consequence of course... but with not enough it only serves to make them more acute.

If Sayuri knew an expletive now would have been the time to use it. Why had he done that? It was only a kiss...and he was her Danna wasnt he? She was supposed to just accept his words, leave him to temper and sit here like a bird in a gilded cage until he returned. But she could not. What little she had gained since being on the Island she wanted to hold onto. And that included this tall gentleman. 'Sabin-san!' she exclaimed, getting hurriedly to her feet and rushing to move before him - not a little awkwardly as she had yet to run with her webbed feet. 'It is not a waste! I do not care what you have done. You have not hit me. You have not made fun of me,' she gabbled, her english not failing her, words coming out in an emotive and easy flow. 'I do not care what you will do,' she stepped forward and placed a small hand on him, just below his chest. 'I like you..please. Please Sabin-san, do not leave.' she looked up at him.

Sabin grit his teeth as he paused at the door. He didn't turn to face her, staring instead at his distorted reflection in the door handle.
"I may not have hit you, nor have I made fun of you, but there are many worse things that a man can do. Even if I have not done them to you. I am still responsible for changing you, and partially responsible for you never seeing your home again. Perhaps you are handling these things well now, but eventually, it gets to almost everyone. It has even gotten to me at times, but I keep myself busy and distracted."
He took in a breath and held it. "You do not know even half of me. And you do not want to know the rest."

'But you are my Danna..' she whispered, tugging on his jacket. 'I know you are changing me. You told me. It is strange. And it scary. But I have friends. It help me. You help me.' she tried to smile. 'If Sayuri go home, Onesan will send me to a bad place. Or to be a nun. Home is not...kind' she frowned, hands still curled into the cloth of his sleeve. It was probably the most serious she had ever been, and she looked at him again. She thought about his last words.
'I want to know about my Danna. Everything.' the words came as if from far away, and she did feel out of her depth, never having had such a discourse with a man beyond a teahouse party, but she was his wasnt she? That's what it meant. She wanted to know Sabin, and for him to know her.
