User ImageEntilis is a terrestrial planet of similar size to Above and Below. It would more accurately be called a water planet, however, because most of its surface is covered in liquid water. It has very little land that we can see, although it is suspected by most scientists that Entilis has extensive underwater topography similar to oceans on our own planets. We have not yet developed the technology necessary to explore Entilis or even to examine its underwater topography, but I am confident that when we do, it will prove to be full of seamounts, abysses, and underwater ridge-mountains. I'm confident in this because there was once a report from one observatory that a tsunami was photographed on the planet's surface! Tsunamis only appear from tectonic action.

With no landmasses to interrupt the flow of weather, Entilis is shrouded in perpetual storms that are visible even from here. Hurricanes and cyclones rage across the planet's surface. Entilis is considered one of the most likely candidates for life in our solar system, however, as liquid water is considered one of the most important elements for the survival of life. Any lifeforms living underwater there will likely be adapted for the deep-sea. Storms make photosynthesis difficult, if not impossible, deep seas are less likely to be disturbed by roiling storms, and the deep sea will also have more nutrients than the waters up above. However, oxygen is more likely concentrated at the surface where the waves roil and roll, so organisms may be adapted for travel between the two worlds.

Entilis has one moon, Setula.

User ImageVenumra is a small planet with one very small moon, barely larger than an asteroid. Venumra might be better described as a dwarf planet, but I think it counts for the purposes of this assignment quite nicely.

Venumra is mostly covered in water of a bright turquoise hue. What isn't water is a thick, lush jungle, which means that there is, indeed, life on Venumra. Although we have not yet received any sort of communication from the planet, there is still hope that there may be intelligent life on Venumra, and it is considered one of the most likely candidates for such. Venumra has just three small continents, with tall mountain ranges and jungles on each of them, all of them in the tropics. Both of the planet's poles are wracked with storms, so it is difficult to observe activity up there, but it is strongly suspected that there are few if any lifeforms in the arctic and antarctic regions.

The existent of photosynthetic life has long since been confirmed on Venumra, which leaves only the question of whether animals like us have shown up there yet. Insects are practically guaranteed, as are other types of pollinators. I think there are probably also snakes there, since a big, warm, sunny planet is the perfect place for cold-blooded animals, and with all of that ocean out there, there are almost certainly fish. People claim to have seen coral reefs, or at least evidence of coral reefs, on the surface of Venumra, so animal life might already been confirmed. Some people want the governments of Above and Below to organize an expedition to Venumra to explore it, but so far no plans have been made. It's the only planet other than Above or Below that I would ever want to visit, certainly.

User ImageXenophon thought about planets for a little while, then came to a decision.

Interax, the Ice Planet.

Interax is a very large planet, almost completely covered with ice except for a small band in the tropics. It is orbited by three moons, all of them small and two of them tidally locked, meaning that only one face of them faces the planet ever. Interax is covered with mountains and ridges, with its inner equatorial region filled with canyons. Both regions have volcanoes, although the ones in the arctic and temperate regions are more often associated with big mountain ranges. The equatorial region of Interax has lakes and rivers, as well as a small inland sea. There may be oceans under the ice in the north and south, but we don't know yet.

Life is probably possible on Interax. There is enough space in the equatorial region for temperate animals to survive, and if there is lichen growing in the icy regions, animals will be able to survive there as well. Certainly fish could survive in the lakes and in the sea. Geothermal activity from the planet's core could even support life in oceans and seas under the ice sheets. If animals can survive at the bottom of the ocean, where it's cold and dark, there's no reason to suppose that a planet with strong tectonic activity such as Interax couldn't have life living underneath the ice sheets in hidden oceans. We don't know yet if anything lives there, since we don't point telescopes there very often, but a lot of scientists are hopeful. They say that Interax is a planet undergoing a severe ice age, but it will probably end any century now.

User ImageNkiruka thought about the constellations for a while, then nodded in satisfaction. She could think of at least one...

Cancer is a very faint constellation, and it only has five stars. I picked Cancer because it's the Crab, and I'm told sometimes that I'm kind of crabby. According to legend, the great hero Heracles was given the task of defeating the monstrous Hydra, a nine-headed dragon. He had to kill the Hydra because he'd killed his family, and this was his punishment. But his step-mother, Hera, didn't want him to succeed, because she was angry at her husband, Heracles's father, for cheating on her. She sent Cancer, the Crab, down to distract Heracles from his fight with the Hydra. But Heracles barely even noticed the crab and instead of attacking Cancer, he just stepped on it and killed it. Hera put the crab up in the heavens as a constellation, but she was angry at it for failing to get Heracles killed, so she didn't make it a very bright constellation.

User ImageJie hadn't really expected to be able to get through so many lab experiments today, but she nonetheless managed to buck her own expectations. She got through six of them, breezing through, taking notes, and being careful to clean up between them. Writing the lab reports for each one would be tricky, but she was too buoyed with joy from having gotten them done to particularly care about the hard work ahead of her when she got back to the dorm.

User ImageSadly, Cal had not been partnered up with her girlfriend for the day's labs. Neither of them were much of a hand at chemistry, but things would be easier if they were together, certainly. Cal caught Eidil's eye and winked her double eye. Come on, she thought. Let's make it a competition!

Eidil seemed to understand, and both of them got to work, driving their partners along with a ferocity born out of a long friendship. In the end, Cal beat Eidil just barely by one lab, completed as the bell was ringing. Flush with triumph with eight labs under her belt, Cal claimed her prize--a kiss for the victor.

User ImageEidil and Cal weren't paired up for once, which was enough to make a person pout, but when Cal winked her double-eye at Eidil, it was clear that Cal was challenging her girlfriend to a contest. Who could finish more labs in a day? Eidil giggled, then nodded. Challenge accepted!

Eidil pushed her lab partner probably further along than her partner would have preferred. "Don't worry," she told them. "I'll explain all of the principles today to you later. How's after school for you?"

Eidil ended up completing seven labs, but Cal won their contest with eight. She giggled and rewarded her Fallen with a kiss. Who says science has to be stoic?

User ImageMelisara's strong point was not science, and her partner was a fellow Eldritch student. They nonetheless got through two of the day's possible labs, being careful to read the instructions several times over before performing any of the steps. Neither of them wanted to make a mistake! In the end, Sara was very satisfied with the day's performance.

Cotty looked at the sky, she didn't know stars. She didn't really care about them but she was good at being told what to do.

Aries is an important constellation, it's considered the first constellation of the new year. It's depicted as the ram, it was said that a Ram was sent by Zeus to save King Athamus children from a wicked woman named Ino who was jealous of the children from his former marriage. The Son gave thanks for his deliverance by sacrificing the ram to Zeus and giving its golden fleece to King Aeetes. The king had the fleece placed in a sacred copse, guarded by a fearsome dragon which never slept.

Amie sighed, why did she care about the pictures in the sky. Or the story behind them, it was nothing but a bunch of weird untrue stories told by dead people. She wanted to drop it. However, she needed this class to pass so...

I like the constellation Draco, it's always in the sky. In the summer it faces one way and in the winter it's still visible but upside down. Fun fact: Draco used to have the northern star in it before the axis made it so the northern star was changed. No one really knows the story of who the dragon is, some say Draco is the dragon fought Minerva during the wars between the giants and the gods. Some say that Draco represents the dragon who guarded the golden apples in the garden of the Hesperides. While most believe that Draco was the dragon killed by Cadmus.

3 labs? Yah, that sounded about right. Abel wasn't overly ambitious, and quite frankly, she had wasted a lot of her time texting her girlfriend instead of paying attention to what her lab partner was doing. At some point or another, her lab partner got fed up and walked away, and Abel didn't even notice. Oh, well ...

User ImageLeo, the Lion. There are two stories about Leo, and they come from an awful long time ago. The first story is that Leo was an enormous, ferocious lion who was so strong that his skin could not be pierced by any weapon. So he ran around on a rampage, killing and eating people. So there was this hero who killed his family, and he was going to be punished. The gods asked his cousin how he should be punished, and his cousin said that he should have to kill the lion, which they called the Nemean lion. He fought the lion all day, but he couldn't hurt the lion. But he was really strong, so the only thing the hero could do was strangle him, so he strangled the lion. Then, using the lion's own claws, since apparently the lion's claws could cut his own skin, he skinned the lion and turned that skin into armor that couldn't be pierced. When the hero died, the gods turned the lion into a constellation.

The second story is that there were two lovers who were forbidden by their parents from seeing each other. One of them was waiting under a tree for the other one so that they could run away when a lion jumped out at her. She was wearing a veil, and when she ran away, the veil fell off. The lion, being a kitty and all, wrestled the veil, so it got all bloody and stuff, and when the other lover found the veil, he thought the girl died. So he killed himself, and then she killed herself, and for some reason, the gods saw fit to turn the lion into a constellation? I mean, it wasn't the lion's fault all that bad stuff happened, but still...

User Image Stars? Huh... As pretty as they could be, Sharkura tended to keep her head out of the clouds and down to earth. All the same, the freshling pulled out her book and began to pour through it until she found a constellation that she was interested in trying to look for in the nighttime sky!

After having the chance to stargaze, and managing with effort to find the constellation she had picked out to try and hunt down, she began to write about it and the origins that she read about in her book

Pegasus is made out of nine stars. It represents a horse in mythology that was magical and had wings. There's a few different stories about how it came to be, but I like the one that talks about Pegasus dug up a spring and drank magical waters!" With that, the young naiad finished writing up her paper and turned it in. Even if she didn't think of stars much, she was happy to learn about this constellation.

User Image Her own planet? Well Popple had to admit that the thought of creating her own planet was pretty awesome! Especially the fact that it would be her planet to rule over!

My planet is the planet Unnamed. The reason it's called Unnamed is because I would be so amused when others would talk about 'that unnamed planet' and try and figure out why it doesn't have a name. It's a planet much like our own in the way that it can sustain life. The creatures that live there, though, are crazy little fluff balls of varying sizes with majorly sharp teeth that try to bite and cling onto anyone they can that is not from their planet. They feed on the plant life on the planet... and the insects as well.

That last little bit stemmed from her fluff envy and the fact that she'd bare with the pain to have one attached to her tail always. It was then that she noticed that her mind wandered from the planet to its inhabitants and had to get herself back on track.

The planet is quite colorful. The water is purple, the sky is orange, and the lands are all sorts of colors depending on what they are made of. Like the equivalent of grass there is pink! The reason for such varying colors to our own planet? The minerals there are completely different and unknown, unlike those of our own planet. Unnamed has three super small moons. They don't look too much bigger than the stars of the universe, but since they are closer to the planet, they are noticeable by the colors or yellow, blue, and green.

When the assignment was announced, Ruby audibly drawled, "that's so lame," to whoever was sitting next to her. Secretly, though, she thought it was kind of cool. Although she wasn't one to really like school, and only really attended because she had to, the fallen girl once in a while stumbled upon an assignment or activity she liked. This was definitely one of them. After musing for a little while on what her planet would be like, she put pencil to paper.

My planet would be called BX-1249, so obscure and so far away from our planet that scientists couldn't come up with a nickname for it yet. It has six moons that light up the night just as bright as the day, but in a cool purple light instead of a bright yellow one. Because of this it's kind of warm, and foggy. But it has water so it can definitely support life, and little, bouncy, one-eyed creatures inhabit the planet's surface. They're only little to the planet, though! To any nightmare or daydream, they'd be horrifyingly huge. They're like twelve feet tall and they have big, scary teeth. There are lots of plants and creepy rock formations for them to hide in. There's some lakes on BX-1249, but most of them have evaporated due to the heat. It's really humid and muggy, and there are lake-monsters in the lakes. The ground is full of silver, which is why we go there, to mine the precious metal even though it's a really dangerous environment.

Okay, so whatever Ruby wrote didn't make the most sense structurally or scientifically, but at least she thought it was pretty cool. She turned in the paper, feeling proud of her work.
