Sunny frowns back at Algie. "What," she demands. "You look like you're choking on something, old man." She raises her eyebrows at Zac. "I asked him to bring the missing kids home, that's what he was going to do anyway... What d'you got to offer me?" Heliodora pets Smol's fluffy head with the tip of a finger. "I love you too, Smol." She smiles at Chris, the corners of her eyes wrinkling up sweetly under her heavy makeup. Pushing herself to sit up straight, her legs lift out of the water just slightly. The wound--the stump of her left leg--seems much older than the mere hours the memory and the blood had suggested. It looks like it's been healed for a long, long time. "You shouldn't be here, anyway, it's not your place," she says, "I'll send you home."

Autumn had been quiet immediately following their teleportation to Heliodora, knowing Chris needed to talk to his former student. And it seemed some of the older folks in the crowd had questions- a lot of them seemed to recognize the new girl, and everything else that was going on here. When Heliodora offered to send them home, finally Autumn spoke up.
"I'm glad you're okay. Or. Okay as can be," she offered a weak smile and a shrug.
"Don't know how much comfort it is, but. I'm glad we found you. And you have a really nice..." She gestured to Pax and Smol(smol? That was a name, she supposed.)
"I uh. I guess I just wanted to say, now that we've met, I won't be forgetting you. And I hope you're safe and happy here."

While it accepted the caresses readily enough, Smol couldn't help but jump a little as Sunny spoke. Turning it's head sharply to look, feathers and fluff seemed to magically wilt, leaving the odd creature looking decidedly thin and shivery.
Clacking it's beak once or twice, it turned bright eyes to Helidora and tilted it's head as she drew what was left of her leg from the water.
"Yes," it said softly. "They need to go home. It's not safe for you lot here, y'see," Smol explained almost casually. If Heliodora said she would send them home, he would back that choice one hundred and ten percent. It really wasn't safe and Smol was dreadfully afraid of what so many dreamers in this place might mean.
"Please go home," it whispered, all traces of glowering anger gone. "Leave Heliodora be and go on back to your own place."

Olivia watched the news. His sister would have known who Heliodora was right away, but Rabbit most certainly did not. All he saw when he opened his eyes were a pair of maybe-teenagers, Pax, and a talking dogbird, and his discomfort increased with every shift of his focus. Enough of the people around him and these newcomers shared nasty glares and spoke to each other as if they were already acquainted that he felt as though he had just strolled naked into a stranger's wedding.
As one of the girls rose to her... foot, Rabbit's mouth puckered in a small, silent 'o' of recognition. That one. Yup. There she was. Which made the other girl Sunny. Good to know.
He had so many questions, but when Heliodora mentioned home, it was all he could care about. Rabbit hoped she meant all of them, not just the guy who'd called himself Chris. He needed to find Liv, to make sure that she was all right, and this seemed his best chance.
When the bird confirmed that, yes, it wanted them all gone, Rabbit nodded shallowly, standing a little taller. Excellent.

It was so easy to get lost in the sounds her mind conjured, in the soft waves and warm sand and then... Then, they were elsewhere. Things only seemed to be more confusing, but there was one thing Kalisha saw that changed everything. A certain person, and their cat. She blinked. Page... Page ? PAGE !!!!!! She had meant to reply to Asiya, of course, but the sight of someone she not only knew, but appreciated so very much, overrode everything else. And so Kalisha took off, dashing though the crowd - yet somehow without even brushing anyone else - and just about tripped in front of her friend. "Page !!! What are you doing here ??? Where are we ? Why is Quixote here ?" Suddenly, Kalisha was glad Luna hasn't tried to follow her out the apartment this morning. It took basically every ounce of willpower to keep her from attaching herself to Page and never let go, to be honest.

Through all the strange and miraculous things that had happened and were still taking place, Leila was gaping (quite rudely, to be honest) at the non-bloodied and healed over stump of Heliodora's leg. Wrenching her eyes up in an attempt to make some eye contact, she offered, "I'm guessing you don't want your foot back, then."

The change of scenery was nice, if not a little unexpected. The other people who were there were a bit of a surprise, too. It was nice to see Heliodora, though. She seemed well enough.
The same questions and more kept running through her head. She was curious and wanted to ask so many things. Was it possible? She'd make a deal, if so. She wasn't above doing such things, and it'd be worth it, honestly.
"Can I make a deal?"
This wasn't directed at anyone in particular. Just something she was curious about.Quote: Anyone else -- sorry for not tagging. Will be slow -- probably not able to reply until after work. I'm on break now, so I had a second.

The thing was that Jeremiah still planned on it. Planned on bringing them home even if he thought back to what he had read, the conversation Algie had shared, that they were more like Sunny now than them. His lips were pressed to a thin line, especially when he saw the place where her foot had been. It was too healed. Not red and fresh, but old. This place was not theirs and all he could think was ... A cage. This place is a cage. Had Heliodora found herself a gilded cage? Now stuck with whatever it was? His gaze shifted from Heliodora to Sunny and back again when she spoke. "Sunny is right. My deal was easily made because I planned on it anyway." He glanced to Zac briefly, then Leila at the mention of the foot. The woman had caught the same thing he had - that that injury was healed, not fresh. It was out of place. Everyone else, those that thought this was a dream, seemed so ... accepting. Jeremiah not so much. "This wasn't Heliodora's place." He looked to the changed young woman then. She did, in fact, seem more woman now than the teen she had been. The detective remembered the pictures well. "Not originally, nor her home." Blue-green eyes glanced to Smol and then back to Heliodora. This was more than his promise to Sunny. This was about the fact he did not think this was at all good. This was someone playing in the playground of whatever the it was. They weren't supposed to be caged too. "This place," he spoke evenly, "is a pretty cage." A breath. "One I think you need to get out of."

"Well... here is the thing that I'm concerned about." Zac said cautiously, as the bird...bird? wished them to go home, not including Heliodora, and ...well, Sunny offered deals and downplays of the fact apparently 'heart' recipies had come into play. "She" he pointed at Sunny. "Wants HER" he pointed at Heliodora" to go Home too... and if HE" he pointed now at Jeremy. "Doesn't deliver, I'm given to understand that there were mentions of 'Hearts' and 'eating' - and we tend to find those a bit....vital." Zac folded his arms and frowned. "So... Heliodora is missing a foot, she's got...Ice lodged in her shoulder, we don't know how deep...we don't know if it will kill her to go to where we think of as Home. Pax said we'd 'forgotten' her, which was also odd, cause I didn't forget her, I don't think anyone did but I could be wrong. I came here to find her -and- the other kids, whom we still haven't found." He glanced at Sunny now. "YOU seem to know, no shock, what's going on... but we still don't, you're playing with a stacked deck and as far as I can tell, though you may not... remember. But you're basically saying you're going to KILL him if he doesn't do what he was going to do in the FIRST place. So if anything, I'll make a deal with you to make sure you don't kill him."

Page dropped what was left of their coffee drink and embraced their friend with their free arm, squishing poor Quixote between them. They were incredibly relieved to see a familiar face, and especially a friendly one, even if she nearly tripped on her way over. "Kalisha! I'm glad to see you, honestly," they said with a sigh, and pulled back slightly, leaving just enough space between them to free the cat. "I have no idea why we're here, and especially why Quixote is here too. Maybe cats are just able to cross over to this place too?" They could see Zac's cat, but they hadn't really seen any other animals. Well, besides um. Whatever was going on here, with the big black deer and the small bird thing. "Are you okay though?" they asked. They seemed to have missed a lot, but Kalisha could fill them in once they made sure she wasn't hurt in this weird place.

That was more like it ! Kalisha basically attached herself to Page the moment they had a free limb to do so, though poor Quixote probably wasn't too pleased with being in between them. She couldn't help herself and breathed a sigh of relief. It felt better already now that Page was here with her. "I don't know. Luna didn't try to bolt out the door this morning." Maybe her cat has sensed... whatever this place is and decided she wanted nothing to do with it ? Kalisha couldn't blame her, really. "Im fine. Just...." Overwhelmed ? Understatement, "Are you alright too ? This is all so weird." Honestly, Kalisha didn't even know where to start to explain all of this. She couldn't even really claim to understand what had happened, and the bigger picture was being happily ignored at the moment. "Do you know where we are ?"

Brie was pretty sure she was starting to lose it mentally. Like 100000000000% sure she was in some like...really ******** up dreamworld and she couldn't escape because here she was, stuck with a bunch of other people and rain was still hitting her umbrella and Tory's hug had been real and she made a face at Rabbit who gave them a back glance because well...the man had been downright quiet about the whole thing besides a few outburst.
Tory seemed friendly enough and perhaps thats why she was still just...here.
But the creature teleported them, and they were looking at the one they cared for and Brie just lowered her umbrella to keep the eye contact to minimal.
"Are we in a dream?" She looked over at Tory, "Is that why I can't just...leave?"

Heliodora smiles, sunnily. "Thank you, Autumn," she says. "I'll remember that." She shakes her head at Leila. "If you could take it back... and tell my parents I'm gone? I would appreciate it. They shouldn't have to worry about where I am." Sunny is frowning. "I mean, yeah. I'll talk to anyone, if you've got something worth trading for. Like..." She shrugged. "What d'you want? And what'll you give me?" At Jeremiah's words, Pax rises to its many feet. Heliodora flops back onto the ground, a surprised grunt falling from her lips. SHE IS OURS OUR HELIODORA Its fur seems to rise, like a threat display of some kind. The wintergreen eyes squint in frustration and it paws the ground around Heliodora, etching a kind of rudimentary circle with its length (which is far longer than any deer had a right to be). YOU WILL NOT TAKE HER Sunny looks at Zac speculatively. "What'll you give me for his life?" Heliodora says, "Wait, stop--" But it's too late. Sunny asks her question and Pax's eyes blaze open, wider than should be possible; its head seems to disintegrate into a blazing ball of light, and green fire ignites in a circle around Jeremiah, a barrier to keep him in place. YOU WILL NOT TAKE HER YOU WILL NOT Sunny yells: "Jer-bear! Close your eyes and think of water! Think of it really ******** hard!" Quote: Pax is attacking Jeremiah!! WHAT YOU DO??

Of the people assembled, Autumn was probably the most content with Heliodora's choices. She'd left home, found a new one. Maybe it wasn't the healthiest home, but considering she wasn't cracked out in a hovel somewhere, Autumn wasn't going to question it. Instead, she quietly offered,
"I've been forgotten, too. You gotta make your own home somet--" But whatever she was going to add died in her throat. Pax, sweet Pax, had been set off by the chief. And he'd emptied his gun in the last clearing they'd been in.
"N-no, stop it! Don't hurt him!" She shrieked, scrambling over to the deer monster. Even in this ******** up dream, she didn't want to see the dude- Jeremiah?- die. He seemed pretty okay for someone on the law's side. So, with the sense of bravery tied to being in a fantasy land, Autumn threw herself at Pax in an attempt to hug and pacify the monster.
"Think about your name, Pax! You're the peaceful one! He's just worried about Heliodora, that's all!"azuredream AUTUMN HAS ENTERED THE FRAY Ashdown crier AUTUMN USED HUG: SUPER EFFECTIVE??? OR NO DAMAGE???

Growling under it's breath, Smol wanted nothing more than to start shrieking that it had tried to tell them to go away. That it had been right about Pax being a bloody idiot.
Except that wouldn't help anything.
And if Pax wasn't willing to listen to Heliodora, there wasn't much chance that Pax would listen to it. But Smol had to try.
Sucking in a lungful of air, Smol shouted, deep voice echoing through the mangroves.
"Pax, you bloody twit, stop! You're the one who wanted them to understand about Heliodora! They won't understand if you hurt that one!"
Then, if a burst of what it hoped was genius rather than sheer desperation, Smol used the one trick it had that might work.
"Pax, you are going to hurt our Heliodora if you do not stop right now! Please stop for her sake!"
