There was something about beaches that invited red and blue umbrellas over a sunny iced drink. This one was a bit balmy but that didn't stop the humans scattered on the shore.

He could feel no interesting souls. The human he was passing by was nursing a brown glass of drink: a blacker iced tea. He supposed no one really drank matcha iced, anyway, but it'd have been nice to see something familiar.

He pulled and stretched at his arms as he walked, still leisurely keeping his eyes closed. It was nice to pretend to be alive sometimes! And on the bright side he couldn't bump into anything and make a fool of himself.

This next place was a beach only by technicality: a busy trading port, full of ships and people and, well, danger. But the people here, while numerous, were just as shouty and rude as they'd been at the zoo. Altogether Hachi couldn't say they were his favorites.

To amuse himself while keeping an eye out Hachi just flew now, making sure to dip his toes in the water every so often just to feel the wetness. Strange that it couldn't simply dry immediately, as in the Vocivus!

It was strange how busy a place could be and yet how free of interesting interaction. People were just doing routine things - going about their business alone. Where were the desperately close friendships Hachi longed for?
Oh, there! Someone glassy-eyed and weepy, and alongside, a soul who looked distinctly apologetic. Hachi scooped his way closer.

Perhaps if the soul remained distracted Hachi could merely reach out and claim it for his own. It seemed an apt plan: the soul seemed to reluctant to part with its former friend, but it had better places to be. The Vocivus needed the depth of its love.

Back to the docks it was for Hachi. He sat out on the decaying wood - or, well, pretended he could sit, anyway - and dangled his legs into the water. It lapped gently at him, and he had to smile.
