((Roll change to 4))

The dive was calm and the currents were easy. There was not a lot of wind today aside from a small breeze and once he went past the tides, the wide depths of the ocean spread out before him. He could see for a mile or so before it all blurred into the dark blues on either side.

Diving, he headed towards the coral and stone walls where a few gaping caves could be seen.

Step Two

Some of the caves house many useful stones, other house things waiting to kill you. You can keep on collecting for as long as your willing to risk it (or until you die.)

Roll 1d8
1: A few stones! Roll 1d4 to see how many you find in this cave!
2: Sentient sea weed aggressively gropes you! Roll 1d4 to see how much damage it does!
3: A nice amount of stones! Roll 1d8 to see how many you find in this cave!
4: Tentacles! Roll 1d8 to see how much damage they do!
5: A bunch of stones! Roll 1d10 to see how many you find in this cave!
6: This area becomes permanently mob free and reveals a large cache of stones, roll 1d20 to see how many you find in this cave!
7: The mermaids guarded several large, dark caves that are now open to explore. Hundreds to thin, snake-like tendrils shoot out from the darkness. Roll 1d12 to see how much damage they do!
8: The mermaids guarded several large, dark caves that are now open to explore. What appears to be a cave full of inviting stones is actually a huge toothy maw, patiently waiting to devour you. Roll 1d20 to see how much damage it does!

He had thought he picked a good place. From checking the terrain maps of Deus, he felt this new place would be a sure hit. However, it was thick with underwater vegetation and it was hard to see the entrance to the caves unless he moved against the walls to each doorway. There were also mermaids around, as he could catch glimpses of tails and movement out of the corner of his eye, but shooting straight up at the exact moment would be a bad idea.

So he instead decided to test out a cave to see if it was worth anything.

He really was getting tired of tentacles, but just when they became a common sea creature in the Deus Caves, someone had to go along and spice it up with tentacles with sharp spikes on them that pricked against him and gave him waves of hot pain up his arm.

Great. Just ******** magical!

He yanked and pulled until he got free and swam out again.

Checking his suit for damage, he went to the next cave.

The next cave was unguarded - for now. He did the usual checks and dove in, looking around before spotting a large pile of stones on a stone protrusion in the cave that looked a bit like a table.

He started to fill his bag quickly.

Changing dice to 6.

He got a decent amount. He took the stones he gathered and swam back out.

Step One

In the water surrounding the island there's numerous edlritch horrors of the deep waiting to attack your hunter.

2: a bus-sized sea creature attack you. It has 30 HP and 5 auto damage. You can escape it by rolling 1d20 and getting 13+, failure results in auto damage.
3: a small-sized sea creature attack you. It has 15 HP and 3 auto damage. You can escape it by rolling 1d20 and getting 15+, failure results in auto damage.
4: you are safe.
5: you are safe.
6: you are safe.

He barely had any stones, but his heart wasn't in it. He turned up towards the fractured light and swam safety back to shore.

Quote:
Find a place where you can reach the most perfect calm and focus possible, and then begin carving Uruz into each of your stones. Think on the purpose of the stone, and meaning of Uruz as you do so. Focus as much of yourself and your actions on the rune and the act of carving. Some people choose to chant out loud or do visual exercises to more perfectly focus on the task, but different methods work best for different people. Once the rune begins to glow, you'll know it's finished. Because this process depends more on people than lab computers and code, it's less consistent and predictable in its results.

Roll 1d10 for each rune stone
1-4: failure! The runestone never glows and eventually breaks.
5-8: Regular Rune! The runestone can power small, battery-operated runic devices for up to a week.
9-10: Superior Rune! The runestone can charge your runic weapons. (In and out of battle. If in battle, it will take 5 turns for the weapon to properly charge.)

He went back to her greenhouse, set the small parcel on the table, and took out his runic container. It was lighter these days. He rarely kept the stones he made. There was no point. They wouldn't be useful to him.

For all his focusing, he managed to split everything evenly. It wasn't bad. It wasn't good. It was enough though. He tossed the stones back into the container and cleaned off the desk free of chipped stone. He went to bed, tired. He tried to think of simply things, like oceans and rocks, but soon blue waters turned to metallic reds, and the sound of currents turned to ringtones.

He woke up later to the glow of the stones, and listened to the trees.

The water was certianly getting colder and he was thankful for the fact that diving suits were insulated to prevent heat loss to some degree. It was also a good thing that tropical islands didn't freeze over.

The waters were not kind today, and as he went down, a creature that looked like a sting ray with spines down it's back came at him, a gaping mouth ready to swallow him hole. Only thing was that it was slow as hell.

A bit of maneuvering and he swam out of it's path and it went up slowly before diving back down to follow something else. It seemed backwards was not an option for it and he was glad.

The water was murky from the overhead clouds over the ocean, and he found it strange without rays of light dancing overhead and falling down in sheets of orange.

It made the water seem from some other place not familiar. It was probably best to never feel at least some semblance of comfort though.

The cave was more of a hole down atop a mound of dead coral, and looking down, he turned and dropped down, pushing his body into the hole before he picked up 4 stones. It was actually rather comforting to be in a cave of this design with the exit overhead, giving a chance to look up. However, there had to be a reason why it wasn't guarded.

He pulled himself out and swam on.

He moved across a open expanse of sand, watching as fish moved past him, ignoring him as a much lesser predator than those around the water.

He moved up where the sand started to dip down sharply and gripped onto the rocks before he pulled himself between two stones and into another cave.

The cave was crumbled in the back, large stones having broken down and fallen in some past cave-in. A few fish went through the cracks into someplace much deeper, but Melvin only cared for what was available. There was no point in poking in caves without backup.

He searched around among the fallen stones and picked out what he could find.

The next cave was a small mouth but actually dropped down into a wide cavern after pushing through a small tunnel. Inside there was no light, and after some searching through his bag, he brought out a lamp and started to look around.
