Good news: the bubbles had hit their intended target! Bad news: now Griffin had soap all over his hands again!
And of course, now that his hands were covered with suds, he really wanted to wipe his eyes. Griffin rubbed his hands on his shorts to try and clean them off, but he could tell that they were still sticky. As he went to go wash them- again- a water balloon caught him full in the chest, and he looked up in surprise. A girl was celebrating her hit, making it clear who had thrown the offending balloon. Griffin studied her, memorizing her face, and then went off to finish washing his hands. Revenge could wait until after he wasn't icky and sticky.

And the more that Briar started to miss was the worst his luck seemed to get about actually avoiding projectiles.
He’d been hit by yet another water balloon as he’d ran to grab a new balloon and made a note of the giggling balloon thrower (Akane). After all his luck couldn’t stay bad forever.
He tried lobbing his new balloon towards a boy running for the confetti, a balloon like so many others to date, once again falling short of its target.
Ralph wasn't sure that he'd seen Akane in the fray a lot. He'd grabbed up a new water balloon though. The girl seemed like she'd enjoy a water balloon lobbed at her. Specially since she was so hyper and vocal about hitting some one.
Nope Ralph wasn't doing this intentionally, nope nope! However, Ralph was ran into while he was lobbing his water balloon and it rolled harmlessly on the ground. He'd missed his chance to get the girl and now he was staring at the wise guy who'd run into him.
"Watch where you're going." He muttered angrily before walking away.

Finding himself back by the confetti, Briar weighed up who he should toss it at. There were about three people who he wanted to get back, but in the end he reckoned it best to go with the closest.
And what would you know that boy who’d tossed a water balloon at him was nearby. Moving closer so as to be in better throwing range as quietly as he could, Briar tossed the handful of confetti that he had scooped up in the other boy’s direction, before running off with a grin in an attempt to get out of retaliation range.

There! Griffin held his hands out in front of him, admiring his work. Other kids his age didn't take hand-washing seriously, but he knew better. All sorts of germs could hitch rides on hands, since they went everywhere and touched everything. When other kids touched their mouths or their eyes, they could be giving themselves awful infections. Not Griffin! In this case, he'd been more concerned about sticky soapy residue, but he'd had plenty of practice. His hands were soaked, of course, but they were completely clean. He would even eat with his fingers if he had to!
But not right then. There was a time for food, and a time for war, and right then, it was war. He charged back into the fray, yelling at the top of his lungs, when a shot of confetti caught him completely by surprise. The bits of paper kept him from seeing where he was going, and he promptly tripped over a bucket. It tipped over, spilling water balloons everywhere. Griffin howled, this time in pain, as he held his hands over his knees and tried to keep back tears.

A clattering sound, followed by a howl behind him had Briar pausing for a moment, a frown on his face. Did someone get hurt?
He hesitated, debating whether he should go back and look, his balloon slipping from a grip that was not the tightest to plop and burst onto the ground.
He had no idea that his confetti toss had been the cause of this. Would have felt guilty if he had – it wasn’t his intention to actually hurt people after all.
Griffin's knee was scraped. Scraped! That sounded so trivial, when it was anything but. He was bleeding, for crying out loud! His skin had been ripped open! His blood was being contaminated by germs even as he pulled himself off the ground, trying to look like he was a big, tough kid who wouldn't flinch if his leg was pulled off, and not the little boy who'd been bawling over a scraped knee. Though really, that term did not do his injury justice.
But Griffin wasn't the sort of kid who would let an injury, even a grievous one like this, get in the way of his mission. When he'd been a bystander, it would have been a big deterrent. But now he had his game face on. He brushed dirt off his legs and hands, wincing as he touched the area around his gaping wound. His palms were scraped as well, but they were just a bit sore and scratched up, and would be fine in a few moments. He wasn't sure if his knee would ever recover.
The tub he'd tipped over was lying next to him, as were several water balloons that hadn't burst on impact. He grabbed one, relaxing a bit as he felt the cool, wet surface against his burning palms. He would have held it for longer, but he saw his target right in front of him. The one who'd hit him with confetti and (indirectly) caused his terrible injury: Briar.
"Yeah! Take that!" Quickly scooping up another balloon from the overturned tub, Griffin took his time looking for his next target. Eventually, his eyes landed on the girl who'd hit him earlier. This game was equal parts revenge and hitting random people, and it was hard to stay balanced. He still wanted to get everyone at least once, even in his condition, blood still dripping- or at least coagulating- from his knee. Time was of the essence, so once he found Akane in the crowd, he let loose with the balloon.
Hitting random people was fun, but revenge was so much more satisfying.
Briar’s distraction had cost him, a balloon hitting him squarely in the face “Hey” he said slightly annoyed as he tried to wipe water out of his eyes with a bit of his top – it didn’t work particularly well however since he’d been the recipient of quite a few things thrown at him by this stage.
There was a water balloon nearby and Briar tried throwing in the direction of the person who’d thrown the balloon at him, but his aim was off because of the water that had been streaming in his eyes.
He should have been aiming at Griffin, but the balloon sailed in Derek’s direction instead.

After finally getting rid of most the water from his eyes (which thankfully had been regular and not soapy water), Briar’s next plan of action was to get a little payback of his own.
His target – a certain giggling balloon thrower. He got his chance while at the sudsy water tub and managed to send some of the left over bubbles her way.
As he tried to run away before she got in her head to retaliate, Briar looked for a new potential target.

With a shout and a good deal of flailing Briar fell over, and to add insult to injury the balloon that he’d picked up also fell on him and burst on impact.
It was definitely fuelling his determination to be the one to come out on top though – with all the trouble he was going through Briar figured that he’d better win those cookies at the end of all of this.
Feeling a sudden burst of water between his shoulder blades, Trev's first instinct was to feel hurt that Derek had broken Truce. Until he heard the "Yes" in a voice that was not Derek's. Well, he needed more balloons anyway.
Stocking up, he threw one at Ralph. Which missed. Sigh.
Looked like it was back to assigning points for hitting stuff other than people.
There were a few un-popped water balloons lying around close to where he was and once he’d picked himself up from where he’d fallen Briar snagged himself a couple.
One he’d tossed in the direction of one girl running after another girl. It hadn’t hit her, but she didn’t seemed to have taken kindly to it given that she had started chasing after him instead.
Briar lobbed his second balloon at her and kept running, although mayhaps he should have taken the time to actually look and aim. Although by the sounds of it seemed like he’d managed to hit someone.

Given that the girl was still on his tail, Briar was beginning to realise that his balloon hadn’t hit her, or mayhaps it had hit her and that’s why she was still chasing him. After all she sure had seemed determined when he had last risked a glance over his shoulder.
He was by the confetti tub, so he stopped running long enough to grab some of the stuff and toss it in the girl’s direction and then he was off again. Hopefully the confetti would slow the girl for a bit.

Trev's mental scorecard was showing him up to be pretty awesome at hitting things he didn't intend. He took aim and threw his balloon at a random kid running by. Annnndddddddd... missed. Oh well, he got 100 points for hitting that little anthill in the grass. He couldn't be entirely sure how the ants felt about it though.
