Umbra Uchiha

After the Stranger had left, Umbra pulled out a charred bottom of a stroll that would be somewhat familiar to Senri, even in its incomplete state. She extended her arm towards Senri, though kept a respectable distance from the bound girl. She hoped that… Senri’s mood didn’t foul any more than what it had already considering the encounter she just had. However… she did complete her mission… or at least 1/10th of it.
”The scroll you sent me to retrieve, Ma’am.”
Hopefully Senri had a sense of humour…
As Sylne brought her head off of Umbra’s shoulder, the young shinobi reached up and gently ran her fingers over the smooth scales of her silent partner in crime. It was interesting to Umbra that she was silent for so long, if she really was there to give Umbra orders, the orders and their instructions were either very loose or Sylne had confidence in the young woman which was somewhat humbling. She said nothing for the most part about the Stranger being more than a little annoying. She didn’t even want to acknowledge him as anything near a Shinobi of the Uchiha clan. That was a stigma on the rest of them that was shameful indeed…

Umbra’s ears perked up when Sylne mentioned Time and Space Jutsu again, her eyes darted to the side as she eagerly listened to the information that was being said. She wanted to ask, she wanted to ask so many questions that the thirst for such knowledge was almost palatable. She was trying to temper herself, she was on a mission right now and the tasks of the village far outweighed the needs of her own desires. Would it be alright to ask such things even on a mission? Sylne did bring up the topic, so maybe it was alright. She gave a quick look to Senri who was making a face that could sour fresh milk before looking back at the snake that seemed to be enjoying her touch. Ugh, this was a tough call… Senri looked like she was at the verge of an emotional explosion and seeing as Umbra was the one that was closest by her, it would probably end very poorly for her if she happened to have been noted that she was asking questions and distracting herself from the goal and mission at hand.

Still… she really, really wanted to learn about the Time and Space jutsu!

Should she risk the wrath? She would ask Sylne a simple question about it, and then gauge Senri’s reactions based on that. If she didn’t mind or encouraged the questions then she would be fully eager to pursue the topic to the fullest, if Senri shot her a vicious look or unloaded on her then she would let the topic drop immediately and learn about it after her task was complete. She hesitated for a moment, looking at Sylne, shooting a quick look at Senri and then gazing back at Sylne again. She lowered her tone a bit, not sure if she did want to have Senri hear her in understandable brooding that she was doing right now. As she asked, she kept Senri’s reaction in the corner of her eye, she made sure that she wasn’t so obvious about doing it, it’s not that she didn’t trust her or anything, but she still thought it was a good idea to make sure that she wasn’t going to be invoking any ire out of the woman.

”How does time and space jutsu work exactly, Sylne?”

Through the madness we find, loyalty is no match for power.
Say goodbye to your life, left to rot in your darkest hour.
Prayers won't help you now as long as you're mine!

When Umbra presented the charred piece of the scroll to Senri, she clicked her tongue and rolled her eyes. "Figuressss. A ssssimple creature like him would never have the gutsss to throw down his cardssss and ssssacrifice the only thing keeping hisss other half here. No...he ssstill needs Haruki for now. As long asss her heart ssstill beatsss, hisss head remainsss attached to hisss neck...for now." A smile crept across her blood stained lips as a sick warmth spread over the area once more. Again...she still held the upper hand. He may have gotten his jabs in, but in the end she still came out as the victor in this struggle for power and understanding. Senri never struggled....no....she adjusted to the situation and thrived on it.

---------

The small serpent couldn't help but let out a small hiss that seemed to be interpreted as laughter. Umbra was one of the few humans that she had encountered that she actually enjoyed being around. She was...different to say the least, not just in looks but in personality. Hard to read, but at the same time her intent was clear. "Jikūkan Ninjutsu...The act in which one can either warp or teleport sssssomething to another location almosssssssst instantaneoussssssly. There are many forms of it. It issssss mosssst often ussssed for sssssumoning, but I have ssssseen it usssssed for other thingssss. There wassss once a man who had usssssed such a technique to teleport and redirect hisssss attacks. There have alsssso been rumors of a woman who could sssssend sssssomebody to another dimension....thissss power extended to the point where she could even send partsssss of her body away to avoid injury from an incoming attack. Normally ssssssuch techniquessss cannot be usssed without sssssome form of scroll or tatoo, but I guesssss there is a way around it." There was a brief pause as the snake pondered on the subject. Surly Vriska knew way more about the subject than she. The old hag of a snake was blind, but she knew a lot.

"I believe the technique wasss called Kamui...it isss a power that can be unlocked by one who wieldsss the mangekyō sharingan. However, there have been no recordsss of anybody elssse unlocking sssuch a devassstating technique thusss far." Senri chimed in intentionally just to remind Sylne of how loud she was being. Honestly, her little hisser had no lid on it. Senri didn't seem to mind though, if it were anybody else she would have had some serious issues with her little snake friend. Senri chuckled weakly at the two of them and lowered her head in apology. "My apologiessss for evessss dropping on your converssssation, but I couldn't help but assssk..." Her eyes darted over to Umbra, and she very slowly turned her head to the blue-eyed beauty.

"...Isss thisss the power you seek, Umbra dear? I'm afraid I don't know much elssse about the technique, for I have no personal interesssst in ssssuch a technique.....but I can pull a few ssssstringssss and ressssearch a bit more about it, if you really want to know. Thissss sssort of information isss available once you gain the rank of chunin, but I don't mind digging around for you..."

Umbra Uchiha

The Mangekyo Sharigan…
It was one of those hushed secrets of the Uchiha clan, a legendary technique that was harnessed only by a few people and rumoured to have come at a great price. They say that only a few were ever able to obtain it throughout the spans of the clan long and proud history, the ultimate visual jutsu, it was just as feared as it was impossible to obtain. Umbra turned to listen to what Senri had to say and gave both Sylne and her master the full attention as they told her about the techniques that Time and Space jutsu could do for her. Her eyes narrowed softly, if she wanted these techniques she was going to have to work hard and then risk her life and possibly more for these techniques that all sounded more and more enticing to her the more she learned about them. Who was this woman who could wield these techniques? What was her secret and where was she located? A warrior of that sort of caliber would not escape the Clans infamy or its history. When Senri finished and asked her if this was the power that she wanted, Umbra’s eyes narrowed a fraction in thought and her eyes dropped a little to indicate that she was analysing her options about this subject. Should she? If she wanted these techniques, then there was going to be a lot of work ahead of her, it was a far sighted and heavy ambition to be sure. But the Uchiha’s selfish lust for power was ingrained in her, upon hearing about the sorts of things that could be done with the time and space jutsus she only wanted to learn about it more, this would be her goal now and until she obtained it. She looked up at Senri and nodded her head.

”I do want this power… but I do not think it fair that you should go around and do my dirty work for me. This technique… those techniques… have no benefit for you, they are things that I am interested in, so it should be I that does the work. I appreciate the willingness to do this for me, Ma’am, but if others do the majority of the work for me, then when I obtain the power it will be of little victory to myself if you spoon feed me all the way. However, I would appreciate a direction that my research and learning should go, if you have raw information for me to investigate.” Umbra truly didn’t want Senri to do the bulk of the work for her, it was something that she wanted through ambition and personal sacrifice, it wasn’t something that she wanted someone to hold her hand to accomplish. To think, if she was able to unlock these techniques, she could be the second person in the Clan to do so. It was a humbling and something of an exciting thought for her.

Umbra understood that this was going to be a lot hard work, but Senri could probably see that she was more than eager to work hard to obtain such things. Hopefully Senri wouldn’t feel slighted at fact that Umbra wanted to try and do this on her own as much as she could. It was probably a rare trait in the Genin that they were actually willing to research the roots of the power that they sought, instead of just pestering those who knew to teach them all about it, creating short cuts to a power that they didn’t fully understand, if Senri helped from the shadows where Umbra didn’t notice, then that would be her choice. Hopefully, Senri had the confidence in her and she didn’t feel that she needed to necessarily pull some strings, hopefully, Umbra could try and get this information on her own without the need for Senri to use favours and get herself in political debt. Umbra’s silence lingered in the air for a moment as she seemed to be rolling around thoughts in her head her hand once more reached up and gently caressed the snake that was around her neck.

”Do you happen to know the name of this woman who was able to perform the Kamui, Ma’am, and… do you know if she even lives?” Names would be a good place to start, she could ask around and then follow rumours while she unlocked her understanding of the time and space jutsus and then the secrets of the Mangekyo Sharigan. She doubted this woman would be easy to find –if she was even alive- so Umbra imagined that she had some time between learning and building up her body and then actually being able to unlock this technique that she sought out. Baby steps, her pre-bootcamp instructor would tell her, even the snake prepares himself for a huge undertaking and swallows the rabbit little by little.

At first Senri was taken aback by Umbra. She hadn't come across a student that actually wanted to gain such power without the aid of others. To Senri it was a very admirable trait, one that most of her students lacked. After all Senri didn't have anybody to help her gain power. She was a very private individual and did almost everything alone. "I can resssspect that." Answered Senri, with a small smirk curling at the corner of her lip.

The silence that followed was only ruptured when she had thought long and hard. "Her name is Isanami. She defected to our neighboring village sssseven years ago. Since our village has virtually no way of keeping tabs on the other ssssettlement, I can't tell you if she's ssssstill alive or not. My guessss is that she probably issss. Though, if you and me ever go there I can probably tell you right off the bat if she's still alive. I leave the resssst to you." Senri wasn't sure if Umbra would even let her do that much, but if anything she just wanted to make sure this person was even still alive so Umbra wouldn't go on a needless pursuit. Then again...it may not be needless to her. Maybe she'd find some answers even without finding the source. She believed Umbra was plenty capable of such things.

Senri's thought process was broken when she picked up something, a person. Somebody with a familiar chakra signature was approaching. Her right eye seemed to burst with what looked like a blue flame. It was her own chakra of course, but with all the chakra she was being fed, it amplified her abilities tenfold. Using something as simple as her Mind's Eye became a light show. Senri focused her attention in one direction, her eyes never once wavered. Whatever it was, Senri became fixated on it's soul existence.

Umbra Uchiha

At first, Umbra didn’t know if she had offended Senri or not, her body language suggested that she was unprepared for something that Umbra had said, and judging by the timing of such things, it sounded like it had something to do with the fact that she declined her help to find out more information about the Mangekyo Sharingan, the worry went away when her body language relaxed and Senri replied that she was alright with her doing such things. It was likely going to be damn ambitious of her, considering the secrecy of the techniques, but perhaps it would be better for Umbra to learn about it this way. Short cuts and second hand learning were all fine and well, but doing such a thing, one wouldn’t be able to understand the roots of what made it, it becomes nothing more than regurgitation from one ninja to another and nothing was truly learned. Judging by the small smirk that curled the lips of the younger girl, she seemed pleased that Umbra was willing to do this for herself and after a long beat of silence, she continued with what little information that she had.

Umbra listened closely and made a mental note of the woman’s name that possessed the ability that she was after, storing it away in her mind so that she could pursue it at a later date. Perhaps even people in the village could tell her something about this woman and her ability to use the Mangekyo Sharingan. By doing some detective work even here she might be able to uncover some sort of hint or something about this person. It was a long shot, but she was practically riding blind anyway. Oooo! This was starting to become quiet the little mystery that she was setting up for herself, she had a sudden urge to decry: ‘The game is a foot’ but she had a lot more self-control… and self-respect than that. At the offer of Senri helping her at least discover if the woman was alive if they were to go into the other village some time, Umbra tucked her chin a little closer to her chest, closing her eyes she spoke.

”Thank you, but again, I must respectfully decline… It may be to my advantage to go into this situation blind, perhaps I may find someone who knows her, someone who has seen her perform those jutsu and, if I am really lucky, perhaps someone who taught her, by gaining a reputation among those people it may help me get some standing with her if she ever learns about it. I may even be able to re-trace her steps in how she unlocked it and then her assistance might not even be needed. I doubt she would be interested in yet another Uchiha fresh off the Boot-camp bothering her about what made her infamous as a shinobi. At least if I get some clues and she turns me down, I can still have some information to fall back upon.” Umbra opened her eyes again and looked over to Senri, trying to get a reading of her reaction, perhaps it was going to be a fool’s errand, or maybe she might be able to achieve something truly great. As she was waiting for Senri’s response, her superiors head snapped in another direction, her eye sparked to life in a ghastly blue colour as she transfixed her eye on something or someone that seemed to be approaching them. Umbra turned her body in the direction that Senri was facing and enwove her fingers in between the hilts of her sword. She put herself on high alert just in case she got some… unwanted company.

~Fire is my soul.....~

Takeo noticed the butterflies. They seemed to be ghostly and unreal in his current state. He slowly rose from his position and followed after them, shuffling his feet along. In pain, he reached into his pouch and pulled out the few pain pills the medical kit had had. He popped two of the four and felt a tad better, though his stomach pains were still there. He could feel the empty stomach feeling in his middle like a kunai was stabbed there, but he followed after the direction the strange butterflies had gone.

Still gripping the puzzle box, his hands fiddled with it unconsciously as if they were stuck in that rhythm. His gaze faced forward, intent on his direction. He had no clue where the bugs were going, or if they were really there, but he had to hold on to something at this point.

To say he was happy was an understatement. As sessou released him while he still had a head he used said appendage to breath an audible sigh of relief at not being barbecued or worse. "Well you could have killed me already so theres that. You didn't let me eat the poison to pay a debt i didn't levy, so with that your honorable and prefer not to rely on others for strength. You pointed out flaws in my plans I did not think of under the current situation so on some level you care about others safety. Though you disguise it as showing them up. Something you've been doing since the first portion of the exam." he said with a confident grin. He was about to continue when suddenly the air was full of... butterflies?

Noting their direction Yasuhiro took a deep breath to calm himself. Seeing sessouressu walking along with them he followed as well. "We can save this chat for some other time, for now it would be best to make for higher ground. Whatever that was it's impossible to tell its origin or nature from here." he said evenly sheathing his sword.

Looking around he spotted the nearest high point. It wasn't too far off luckily. "Thats our best bet there. If we can get above the tree line we may have an opportunity to get a better look around. However this also means we'll be open to being spotted as well... its risky." he said.

Then keeping his ears sharp he made his way toward the base of the mountains in the center of the island. His hand moving to his sword. "It's likely I'm not the only one thinking this, It's better to be prepared." he said more to himself then to anyone in particular.

The sound of light footsteps riddled the area. It wasn't hard to tell where it was coming from, and the source came from a man who appeared to be clad in armor, long brown hair that was tied back in a loose ponytail. He was a veteran of the battlefield, for he had plenty of scars to prove it, and he wore them with pride. This man was a recognizable figure for sure. His name was Shouta, and he was chief of the special task force and master interrogator. He was also...Senri's father.

Senri regarded him with a low mutter as she immediately dropped her gaze to the ground. "Shouta-sama. What brings you all the way out here? Surely you're not vacationing here." As soon as her words left her lips she felt herself regret saying anything at all. Shouta was not a fan of jokes. He had a tendency to make people nervous, and normally Senri would be nonplussed by her fathers appearance, but something told her he was here because she was in-trouble.

He made no mention of anything as he passed Umbra silently, his eyes had a critical, yet understanding quality about them. Like he was looking at enemy soldiers but could empathize with their plight. "Senri, you're being called back to the village. You too, Miss Umbra."

"Can't you see I'm busy? If I leave now everybody will-" The sound of her father's blade clinking against the sheathe interrupted Senri and silenced her before she made a fool out of herself in-front of him.

"These are not my orders, they're coming straight from the Clan Lord. Failure to comply will result in immediate termination." His eyes hardened with hostility as he gripped the hilt of his blade. He wasn't playing around, he meant what he said. His daughter was by no means an exception. He'd cut her down if she stepped out of line just like the rest, and Senri knew this.

Senri kept a close eye on his body language, and she knew he wasn't just blowing off hot air. He always meant what he said. Misunderstanding him would be a fatal mistake. No....he did not play games. "....What's going on?" Asked Senri, knowing her question was probably going to get shot down with another glare from Shouta.

"I'll explain the situation on the way back, but we need to leave now."
He snapped with a little bite at the end of his orders, then turned to Umbra. "Ma'am. Help her with her chains and we'll be off. There's a boat waiting."

Umbra Uchiha

When Shouta came into the area of vision, Umbra immediately snapped into a more rigid stance. She knew of this man, she had met him in the Pre-boot camp before she arrived at the Uchiha barracks but she had no idea that this man was Senri’s father though. She had a level of admiration for the man, he was one who got straight to the point and he didn’t tolerate insubordination from anyone. It was, what Umbra thought, as an admirable trait, he was definitely someone that she didn’t care to trifle with at any given time. As he passed by she gave a bow that was for any ranking officer, she had stayed her usual silent self while she listened to the Daughter and father banter that was going on. She may not have known what sort of relationship that these two had, though it was certain that it was a tense one. Knowing that it was none of her business, Umbra stayed out of this, though the sudden recall of their persons made her pause for concern slightly. What happened that they were needed immediately? The matter seemed rather urgent judging by the tones of Master Interrogator Shouta. It was somewhat sobering to being ‘Miss’ed again after all this time, there was almost pangs of nostalgia that bubbled from her being with that. Though what really floored her was the fact that she had been Ma’amed by this man. She held no rank. It may have thrown her for a loop for a moment but she recovered quickly with another bow and a ”Yes Sir.” before she strode over to Senri and hastily helped her out of her chains while the medical ninja unplugged her IV’s and whatever other medical apparatuses were hooked up to her. Umbra twisted herself to catch Senri on her shoulder, placing her one arm around her own shoulder as Umbra offered to help by starting to put an arm around Senri’s waist so that if she was weak from the Chunin exams that Umbra would be carrying most of her weight for her. If Senri didn’t need the help she would leave her be, if she did need help though, Umbra would help her back to the awaiting boat. If Senri was too weak to be shouldered, Umbra held no qualms about carrying her either by piggy-back or bridal style to the boat, she would likely be able to catch her breath by the time that they got back to shore. She would follow Shouta to the boats without a word and without faultering.

Despite Senri's reluctance and curiosity, she remained silent. Was it really okay to leave like this? She was going to test the genin eventually....but she was going to have the "beast" under her control, just to make sure it didn't make a mess and roll around in a pile of the contestants organs. As charming as that thought was- Wait....why did she even care about them? They were pawns....and right now they were proving their worth. More importantly why were they being called back so suddenly? What could they possibly want with her and Umbra?

Senri tried her best to tread forward with Umbra's help, but it was hard for her to handle alone. It was obvious she was trying to brave it out because she didn't like showing weakness in-front of anybody. Eventually she gave up and let Umbra help her out, leaning into her frame as if she were a crutch. This was going to be a long a** trip...

The ground below you has gotten somewhat moist. You'd assume it was because it was raining, but it wasn't. It was surely cold as hell though, but it didn't matter compared to the peculiar mud you're slowly sinking in.

From a distance you hear something, almost like an ocean, but you were nowhere near land!

------ For people who didn't quite find higher ground.

You notice this sound getting closer? It was quite peculiar at first, but then again....what follows after a big earth quake? You stare into the trees just long enough to see....a wall of water coming at you like a freight train. It was 16 feet high and you had nowhere to go except the opposite direction quickly.

Sharingan, One Tomoe: Inactive

Pain from the burning of his lungs and the wrenching of his stomach was nearly unimaginable, still Ikurah raced on. Something was wrong, he wasn't sure what yet but something was wrong. The way that a dog could sense an earthquake; that very same dreaded fear of oncoming doom. Inescapable, unavoidable, it was happening.

"BEsides... these damned... butterflies... have to be doing... so... some... something.... interesting! WHy else would the...they be ... flying to no place?!"

He panted heavily as he raced on through the trees, above them, between them; like a shadow gracing the ground he was graceful. The burning in his chest and in his legs were threatening to hamper than grace, but Ikurah grit his teeth and bore through the agony.

A cliff had come into view awhile ago and he sought refuge there, at least with high ground he could see all who would come seeking the same thing. If he was quiet, patient and most importantly there first; he would have a great advantage. Or he was walking into a trap, either way it beat whatever was making the hair stand on his neck.

Ikurah reached the base of the spire when he first felt it, there was a distinctive squishing noise accompanied by the familiar feeling of sinking.

"Water? Here?! No, no, no that simply won't do for sense, this is a desolate wasteland where the only thing of worthwhile note that has taken place climatically is the earthqua--- Oh mother ******** crows!!!!"

Turning around, off in the distance, Ikurah could see what amounted to a tidal wave. It have to be at least fifteen feet high, although he would venture to give or take a foot. The velocity of the wave at the distance it was made it hard to tell anything specific beyond, OH ******** ME!!!
Forgetting his pain and weariness, he coated his hands and feet in chakra, made for climbing, jumping and sprinting up the spire. Up he went, several feet at a time in moments he was at least ten feet or more above the water.

Again, hard to tell from the distance and the amount of bricks s**t in the last few moments. He had a second to pause and wonder if he had been feeling better, would have tried hugging it? Oddly that sounded fun, but NOT with this collar around his neck. So, successfully perched up from far the impending doom soon to crash into the cliff face; he watched and waited. Mesmerized by it's beauty.

Water was truly an incredible force of nature. Granting life and taking it away, not unlike Senri and her offer to him of a new body. He looked around for a moment or two; checking for any of the other genin, before returning his gaze to the massive wave.

"Bitterness is a Cancer, It eats Upon the host..."

Sessou continued to walk towards the high ground that Yasuhiro had pointed out. The main difference between the two of them was the fact that Yasu paused and thought about that Danger might be waiting when they were in the open. Sessou himself simply continued walking not giving a ********. Either there would be something there or there wouldn't be. Either way it wouldn't really matter seeing as how if there WAS something there; it most likely would have already seen them; and if not; they had the high ground for combat. "You say it like I would care" The boy said bluntly before continuing his way down the path. While he didn't like the fact he was working with someone; it did mean that he could focus on regaining his chakra back.

As they reached there destination the boy growled slightly; fighting the mud that had been getting worse and worse. This place was just odd, the higher up you went the rockier the terrain should get in an area like this; not wetter. If nature didn't even follow its own rules what else was there here that they hadn't found yet.

"God damn this is just starting to get out of hand" The boy Said as he pulled out a length of wire from a pouch on his side. and attacked it to a Kunai, before throwing it at one of the tree's that dotted the area; essentially tethering himself. Giving himself something to pull on, as well as a safety net from sinking into the mud that was growing around them. Not only that but there was a weird sound..... it sounded a bit like water but..... different (Keep in mind Sessou has never seen the ocean so he has no idea what it sounds like)

"...But anger is like a Fire, It burns all clean"

~Fire is my soul.....~

Takeo hadn't really noticed it until he realized he couldn't move, but the ground was beginning to become more mushy and moist as he climbed toward higher ground. He found his feet stuck and in his singleminded plan to follow after the butterflies, he manipulated the earth around his feet so he could again.
A strange sound had begun to waft into his ears, like water lapping a lake side. For some reason, it sounded much louder and more fierce. Must........be a big lake or something.
~..........and it burns brighter than yours.~
