 :: Confusion ::
Eftemie Solo03.11.10 It had been several days since the party for Una and Nixie. But still she could not get the god of water from her thoughts. Each detail she went back over. The way he spoke, soft and gently yet flirtatious. The way he touched her hand or his arm slid around her.
Lisana sighed. Was it really him? Or was it her? She was lonely sometimes remembering what Eftemie and Tempest had once had. Was that why she was feeling all this? Couples passed her by walking hand in hand or arm in arm as she sat hidden in the alcove. It had become her private space to sit whenever she needed away from the things at the Pantheon. Noone seemed to notice her there. Yet she saw them all.
Children playing with their parents. Couples walking and smiling. She was envious, but it faded quickly. They were happy and deserved to be happy. Lisana could not fault them for that. With so much decayed and gone, everyone deserved whatever happiness they could find.
For a few moments she hesitated. He might not even have really noticed her but simply been polite to her because she was with his children. What would she do if he rejected her advances? How would she feel? It could be awkward for Una and Nixie if she revealed what she was thinking and feeling. Afterall she had only seen him a few times and when the girls were around. Her excuse for being there, but she could not keep that up forever.
Was it her imagination that there could be more? Did she want that closeness with him? What was it that drew her thoughts back to him repeatedly?
The way his eyes watched her? The warm cerulean that became stormy when he focused on a particular thought? Was it the way she wanted to twirl her fingers in his curls and make him laugh?
He had been happy at the party. She had been able to see that, but she could almost feel an unhappiness in him. Pain, confusion, anger-- all lay secretly in water's eyes hidden in the warm oceans.
Shaking her head, Lisana got to her feet. For a few moments, she paced back and forth. Aridai and Rorie were grazing nearby, but she never noticed so lost in thought was she.
Maybe she should go see him. Talk to him and try to figure this out. Maybe she should... A frown crossed her face. What if he rejected her? Then where would she be? The girls would find it too uncomfortable and so would she. Did she approach him or not?
She suddenly sighed, sitting back down. Not this day. Maybe some excuse would come up and she'd be able to truly go see him and his daughters. Her choice made, she leaned back in the seat. For now she could not.

 :: A Time To Change ::
Solo03.02.10 When she opened her eyes, Lisana felt different. She turned to watch Kaelin for a few moments. Perhaps it was just the way she was feeling about him. Everyday with him was like being in a candy store. She wanted to see him laugh in all the flavors. Silly, she supposed, but it was the truth of her feelings.
She thought about what he had told her of Morpheus as she got to her feet, dressing in the clothing he had said she could use to return to her rooms. His comments on her change in appearance were lost on her as tired as she was, but she wondered if Morpheus had survived. Universe had not. And many mortals had perished. The god had not been seen and she wondered whether that was a bad thing or a good thing.
She sighed, wondering when the sky would return also bringing with it the warmth of the sun and blue skies again. Her dress was ripped. So were his pants, but she'd prefer not to streak down the hallway, so she found something to fit and after kissing him, the goddess left his rooms for her own. He had been full of himself for some reason and she frowned thoughtfully wondering what his remarks had been about. Probably meant to tease her but she was not at her best at this moment and so had ignored his words for the most part.
When her aoidei raised their eyebrows and commented on her clothing and appearance, Lisana's eyes had narrowed at them. They continued to giggle but avoiding saying anything directly to her.
It was strange. She just could not remember feeling like this. There were those memories of Eftemie and Tempest, but she seemed to have none at all. Had she not loved before the fading? There was no memories of such. And if she had... then who had won her heart? Hesitating Lisana supposed it really did not matter. She and Kaelin were together now.
With a deep sigh, she moved towards the closet. A bath was in order and she gathered the things she wanted to wear. A giggle slipped free. She was definitely feeling more like her old self. At least what she could remember feeling like. But it all seemed so new.
As she passed the mirror, Lisana noticed her reflection, a flash of violet catching her eye. Staring she noted the change in eye color and lips. A hand reached up to push the violet strands back from her face. Her hair was very violet in the front and deeper to black in the back and curved upwards even more than before. It was most interesting and a smile appeared as she decided she liked it. No wonder Kaelin was smirking at her. She had changed without noticing. He probably thought it was due to him.
A giggle slipped free. He'd never let her live it down.
Her eyes trailed downwards and she noted the various colorations across her body. And then the faint shimmer of the bubbles caught her attention. Eyes widening, Lisana began to giggle harder. There were so many bubbles swirling from her in long trails, shimmering as they turned in the air. Was this what she had looked like before? Did it matter? Not really.
Her entire strength was not hers yet, but she was definitely feeling stronger than before. And this was a big change in her appearance. Perhaps other things had changed also. She would have to see what she could do now. Hopefully her jokes had gotten better.
Placing the clothing back in the closet, the goddess studied her wardrobe again. Perhaps it was time to wear something more suited to her domain. Something definitely in her colors, but more... harlequinish. Was that even a word? She giggled again as she held several garments in front of her. There was only one way to find out. And if it was not a word, then it would be to her. Making up things as she went was the fun of it. And everyone needed fun. Not just her. Maybe it was time to think about doing more. Setting up troupes of clowns and comedians. And even a carnival and more.
But first a hot bath. She could think while soaking. Afterall, some people got their best ideas from a long hot bath. Or was that from soaking their head? Lisana giggled. Either way, it was still a hot bath.

 :: Solace Sought ::
Joint with Talencia01.11.11Talencia He had hoped he'd be more at ease in his own skin after growing more settled in the world as it was now. He'd seen it, oserved it, even absorbed it mentally. But things were so... well, it all seemed so odd to him. When he'd left, he'd felt barely himself. When the cube had taken him, it had only been a couple weeks since the last spark of Rairne had disappeared. He'd still been mostly her, or had felt so.
But here and now, he was treated differently. He was seen as his own entity, with the right to defrence, power, a place in the world. It was a strange and unfamiliar feeling. Add to that the other major changes since he'd emerged, then throw in how vastly different the whole world was compared to what he'd left it as. All combined, it was vastly overwhelming.
Perhaps it was a leftover habit from spending all that time in the cube, but he found himself with a growing need to withdraw, to take time apart from all those, loving as they might be, who were looking after him, coaching him, watching him. It had become overbearing and oppressive, and thus he had escaped them all, slipping out into the peaceful gardens.
He took slow, measured steps, eyes cast down towards the earth he trod. The very fact that grass grew so thickly here, foliage sprouted, trees and bushes thrived... all so near to the Pantheon. It was surreal. It was such stark contrast to the wreck of earth and blood that had existed before. No more in evidence was the soot, ash, lava, magma, rock. He shook his head in something akin to dismay. It wasn't that he didn't appreciate and savor the changes. It just was rather like opening one's front door on a normal day to find one lived somewhere else than one always had. Very disorienting to say the least.
He stooped to pluck a flower from a bed, where it had nestled with others of its kind. He fingered the delicately purple-tinged petals, focusing intently on the sensation of velvet softness, on the subtle scent wafting up from his hand. He hesitated, struggling with the who of what he was now. Tentatively, he tried to invoke the power that had duplicated the coins in his pouch. He did not try very hard, and thus was unsurprised when nothing happened. He sighed silently, shoulders sagging slightly, and paused beneath a tree. As if seeking answers, he raised his gaze upwards into the tangled, chaotic pattern of the branches. To his amusement, even in this natural chaos, he found the steady, reliable rhythm that dictated the apparently random way the branches grew.
He could not escape who or what he was. He merely... was. But how could one handle such simplicity when it was so impossible to grasp hold of? Eftemie When she heard the soft footsteps, Lisana smiled as she watched to see who was there. Perhaps someone she knew. Perhaps not. When she saw him, she just gazed at him silently watching.
He was brooding about something. Not knowing who he was kept her silent for a few moments. Then her lips curved upwards. He needed laughter more than anyone else at this moment. The long silk skirt she was wearing rustled slightly as she moved her feet a bit. Her shoes had been kicked off and were on the ground beside her.
"If you stare upwards too long, it will give you a headache. And you appear to have enough on your mind already." A giggle slipped free as she watched for his reaction to her pun. The bubbles streamed around her and upwards into the air as they always did. Since her change there were even more of them. Some drifted past him and then upwards to pop on those branches he was looking at. Talencia He hadn't heard her come up and glanced back at her with mild startlement. He wasn't exactly startled, but her approach was unexpected. He raised his brows questioningly about what she might be talking about until comprehension dawned. The pun, as it was, entirely was lost on him, however.
"Ah, well, yes, I suppose so," he replied quietly, dropping his eyes back down to the flower he held. He twirled it in his fingers a bit more, lost in thoughts still wheeling about in his mind from a moment before. After a moment, though, he seemed to recover himself to the present. He looked back up to meet her eyes and smile noncommitally.
"I'm Arctang," he introduced himself by name only, not feeling any sort of urge to declare himself the lord of numbers or of divine blood. Certainly it was his right to, but what truly did it get him? He wasn't so sure anymore. For now, he felt almost as lost as he had in the cube. Better to let his name stand as identification enough.
He took in her whimsical clothing, graceful unconcious posing, sparkles in her eyes, and bubbles as... wings? Or just some sort of random expulsion? He couldn't help but be curious about that. "And you are..?" He offered her a somewhat solemn bow, bending at his still slender waist, tucking one hand back behind a hip and gallantly offering her the flower he held. The pale purple suited her, he thought. She'd likely make better use of it than he, at any rate. Eftemie She laughed as she accepted the flower from him. A moment later it was tucked behind her ear. "Just my color. Thank you, Arc." She shortened his name already deciding she liked him. Patting the chair beside her, she said, "Please join me. It's said that Laughter can be in every nook and cranny. It appears you have found me."
Again the giggles broke free as she watched him. The bubbles swirled upwards faster, the more amused she was. "I'm Lisana. I sneak out here when I'm playing hide and seek with my aoidei. They just don't know that's what I'm doing." Turning to the side, she poured him a cup of tea and offered it out to him. "If they ever catch on, I'll be in trouble."
Laughter slipped free again as she admitted, "But then I'm usually in trouble in some fashion. Between the pranks, parties, and creatures I seem to collect, it's rather a zoo whenever I'm around."
Then mishief in her eyes, she asked, "And who are you hiding from?" Talencia To be perfectly honest, he had no clue what to make of her. It became very clear from the start, however, that she was a diety, and that she was Laughter. The somewhat stunned Numbers let the strangely enchanting goddess take over. He sat as bid, unaware he ran his hand through his hair in astonishment.
This was nothing like what he'd come to expect. It seemed emotions were high, or at least tensed, and often with a sobering or negative influence. This... this was different. Different even than Mystery's slight smirks and riddles. He blinked when she said she was... playing hide and seek? With her servants? Almost numbly he accepted the cup from her, not really looking at it but her instead. She was fascinating to watch, with the streams of bubbles twirling behind her back.
He opened his mouth to ask how she could possibly be in trouble, being a goddess, when she asked him a rather pointed and direct question. It was entirely in line with what she'd just been saying, but was much more blunt that he'd expected from her. Somehow he thought she'd be round-about, rather like Taj was. So taken off-balance, he answered her in all honesty. "Myself," he replied, eyes wide. The fingers about his teacup tightened, and he looked downwards into the contents as if somehow they held answers he sought. Eftemie Lisana broke entirely into laughter amused at his reply. "Not an easy thing to do. Don't you know that wherever you go.. there you are?" She giggled even more intensely, the bubbles swirling upwards as she watched him and tried to calm herself. He had left himself wide open to her and it almost sounded as if the faint breeze sweeping through the leaves was laughing with her. Most were so guarded that there was little opportunity for such fun. She would sneak in to play her pranks or send her aoidei out to make people laugh.
A hand reached up to brush the hair from her face as she watched him. "It's not often someone leaves themself so open to a joke, Arc. Though it is truth as much as amusing to me."
"What is the problem? Perhaps I can help." She giggled again. "I owe you at least that for finding so much amusement in this."
Talencia "Unless of course you go where you aren't." His answer was smooth and delivered with a faint smile, but it never reached his eyes. He spoke of the cube, though not in plain terms. He reflected that his time with Taj was altering how he communicated. It sounded more like the answer of Mystery than of Numbers. He did not elaborate however. The cube was not a matter for Laughter.
He took a sip of the tea, which he found delightfully delicious, as she made an offer of help. He adamantly shook his head, however. "No, it is not a fixable thing. It is...," he paused for thought. This was not something he was quite clear on himself yet. Why in the world he felt the comfort to discuss it with a stranger, goddess or no, wasn't something he bothered puzzle out. This was a private matter, something he hadn't even discussed with Taj, whom he swiftly was coming to regard as his closest friend, aside from Raja. The why of him sharing all this with her was... well, a mystery.
"I think," he continued carefully, sliding a fingertip around and around the rim of his cup, "that it is merely a matter of growing into myself." There, that certainly was the heart of the matter, wasn't it? He wasn't fully reborn, not really. Most of his body still resembled Rairne more than his old self, he was certain. Inwardly, he felt weak and uncertain, despite his new powers. He twirled around the edge of the teacup a few more times before sighing and sipping once more, again marvelling at how surprisingly tasty it was. He'd have to find out where to get it, so he could brew it himself.
"I apologize for my lack of proper introduction," he added after yet another sip. "I am the Pie Bird, diety of Numbers." He offered a slightly wry smile, though this time it did reach his eyes. "That is what I struggle with, fair Laughter. How to live up to what I was born to be, so long ago." Again his shoulders sagged, as if it were a physical weight he bore. "How am I to be that god when I am not longer who I was?" It seemed to him an unsolvable connundrum. He couldn't be what he was, because he wasn't who he was, but thought he was supposed to be! It left him chasing his tail endlessly... if he had a tail, that is. Thus far, no such thing existed, save in his inward struggles. Eftemie "Such weighty matters." she replied, watching him with a smile. "And Numbers are meant to be fun as much as meaningful. One two, buckle my shoe, three four, shut the door... " Her lips twitched slightly and she giggled. Leaning back in her chair she said, " Growing into yourself... I suppose that is one way of putting the position we are in. But are you so sure that you want to?"
Glancing away, she watched the horses playing a short distance away. Aridai and Rorie racing one another, tails and manes flying behind them. "Are you looking at the physical you or the person you are inside, Arc?" She teased. "I've only recently changed myself, but I feel no different than I did before."
"Shall I tell you about my host?" she murmurred, watching him with a smile. "Eftemie. Her mother died at her birth- within moments really. She and her father refused to celebrate such a day. Her father died when she was ten and she was raised by her uncle. She could not remember anything because she preferred to avoid rather than face anything. She had notes stuck all over the place. One here to remind her to buy food for her animal friends. Another to remind her she had a painting to sketch. There were those who thought she should be more than she was, but in the end what mattered to her was her own thoughts of who she was and should be. And just when she found the man she would love, she lost him when he gave her a stone at her first birthday party. Yet in the end, she gave herself entirely to me with no expectations on who I would be. She merely asked me to do some of the things she could never do. She was a very interesting mortal."
"Perhaps you are over-thinking your situation." She smiled at him, her gaze returning to his face. "I mean, I think about her and what I see is the joyfulness of her laughter. The girl could never have harmed anyone. Even as sad as her life was at times, she still looked for the sunshine without trying to live up to anything except what she thought she wanted to be. She was a clown, a painter, a friend, a lover, and much more."
"I think of her each day even though she and I became one, merged together. I have her strength and memories now and I guess thinking about her each day and what I see out there, has made me who I am now. Quite frankly, I don't want to be who I was before." She watched him a long moment. "We failed then, Arc. Everything faded. Perhaps Creation brought us back as stones, knowing we needed to take a host -to give us more. Perhaps even to give us the true meaning of what we have and what we are. He gave us the option to grow and learn rather than be set in stone and unable to see anything else."
"So enjoy what you are and what you have each moment. Don't over think and let the numbers weigh too heavily on you. You will miss much." Then she began to giggle again. "Besides, my bubbles will not float if they are weighed down or popped. And neither will your wings." Her eyes suddenly teased him, daring him to disagree with her. Talencia She recited the poem that he himself didn't know. Apparently neither had Rairne. Or... had she? He frowned as he tried to tap into what unanimated bits were left of her, but the response was sluggish at best. Afraid to destroy what brittle remains of her there were within him, he stopped stirring amongst the dead memories and returned his attention to Lisana.
He once more opened his mouth to answer that he meant his inward self when she continued on, unheeding of his intent to respond. The subject matter however was a total shock to him. He never did close his mouth, staring at her with a slack jaw as she described her host. Noone seemed to talk about their host. None that he had met, anyway. Yet here she was, speaking of her as... as a friend!
But her words of remembering her host every day almost undid him. Tears sprang to his eyes and he felt pierced to his physical heart. A lump grew rapidly in his throat, and his chest tightened severely. Here was someone else, another diety, who loved and cherished their host! Who thought of her host every day! He was not alone in that! He sucked a deep breath, tea completely forgotten in his hands. He listened intently to the rest of her words, aching deep with an unnamable need. The tears trembled in his eyes, unspilled as yet.
They did spill over after she was done, though. "Oh, but she missed so much herself!" he said hoarsely, fighting the words past the boulder in his throat. He felt the maddening urge to tell her all about Rairne, about what she'd faced, and how he'd taken it all from her. He ground his teeth and blindly set aside the teacup. "She had so little, and I took it away. I took it, then did as I pleased and ended up imprisoned for it." He had been a fool, and he knew it. More tears ran down his young face, and he clenched his fists so that his clipped nails dug into his palms. "I am unworthy of her. She deserved better!"
He did not mean to be cryptic, but somehow this Lady of Laughter had unlocked that secret compartment where he held all the sorrow, all the mourning, all the self-loathing that was a result of the destruction of his host. With a rasp he buried his face in his hands and wept. Eftemie Lisana listened carefully to him, her eyes softening as she watched. Then she moved, slipping her arms around him as he cried. For awhile she just let him cry against her. Then she finally did speak. "I did not say what I did to make you sad, Arc. She had no expectations of you. How can you have so many when you have changed so much from what you were before?"
"I do not think she would fault you. I no less took what Eftemie cherished most. The man is still around and I see the anger in his eyes still, but I know what she felt for him and I cannot find it in me to dislike him for it. Instead I do my best no matter what I situation I find myself in. And if you feel she deserved better, then do not wallow in hatred and anger at yourself. Make what you are joyful for her. Take those memories she gave to you and cherish them. Protect them and let them remind you of her. In the end you will be deserving of what she has given you simply because you never gave up."
"Anyone can find blame, Arc. But those who pull themselves above it and laugh at themselves are those that have a spark of understanding of what really matters in this life." Her voice was soft and gentle as were her arms around him. "That is what gets me through each day. I remember and I do my best each day to strive to be all that she and I can be together. That is the most anyone can do."
She stroked his head a moment, then laughed, challenging him. "Now chin up. If this were your party, I'd say you could cry if you wanted to. But it's mine, and I don't want to cry. And noone is allowed to burst my bubbles." She patted his shoulder. "Drink some tea. It's one I rather like. It took me awhile to find the proper ones to mix for it, but it was Eftemie's favorite." Talencia His tears slowly subsided as she held him and talked. It felt nice. No, that wasn't right. It felt wonderous. A measure of understanding for Rairne's awe that he had wanted to care for her, look after her, protect her. Here was this goddess whom he did not know, whom seemed to see right into his soul, and who apparently had an instinct to take care of him. There was nothing sensual or suggestive in her embrace of him. It was the gesture of a soft heart to a fellow troubled soul. It touched him, for noone had bothered to let him grieve. Noone had let him cry. Noone had held him in his distress after that hateful thing had arrived and caused the last spark of his host to be blown out.
He shuddered a last gasp of breath, soft though it was, and sat up a little straighter, running both hands through his unruly hair, pulling it back from his face. He gazed into her eyes with pained wonder. "How did you come to be so wise, beautiful lady?" he asked softly. He searched her eyes as if to find the answer there, shining in their depths. he ached all over in a very physical way, an echo of the ache in his spirit.
She was right, of course. Agonizing over what had been long ago, or tearing himself up over things he'd done that dishonored Rairne, was of no use. It helped nothing, changed nothing, and perhaps in the end, meant nothing.
He swallowed the fading lump in his throat and then obediently picked up his teacup. He took a deep drink, not at all the demure sips he'd been limiting himself to before. He rested the cup's base in his cupped palm then and took another deep breath. "The tea is indeed wonderful," he agreed, if a little raggedly. "You make it then?" It wasn't just polite inquiry, though it might have sounded so, since his mind was still whirling away at the application of what she'd said to him. He genuinely did want to know about the tea, but he was distracted as his mind absorbed and mulled.
Yes, it was time to stop feeling sorry for himself, wasn't it? Time to stop being the victim and villain both, and time to simply start living. He still wasn't sure what it meant to be himself and that alone. It was a surprisingly frightening thought. But he would manage. As Lisana had taught him, for Rairne's sake alone, he would press on. Eftemie "Wise?" she repeated. "Because I dare to be a fool, Arc." She broke into laughter again. "Don't you know that wise men are fools and fools wise men?" Shaking her head, she sipped her tea.
"Yes, I made it. It's a blend of the various ones I've been able to find. Arabel has been growing them for me from various plants we originally found scattered around the pantheon. Mints and other herbs, but where most only use one type, I mix several. It is not exactly what Eftemie had, but it is close enough that little difference can be seen in the taste. If you wish, I will send one of my aoidei to you with the recipe and some of the leaves. Arabel grows more than I can ever use. The girl has a very green thumb."
"You cannot miss my door. It has bubbles covering it and lies next to the door to the mortal hallway. I believe Taj's room is next to that." she added, and then laughed. "Lord Mystery can be quite entertaining. I like both he and Lady Karaskis." She had no idea that Arctang roomed with the god. "I do not know everyone yet. I suppose that will come with time." Talencia He regarded her thoughtfully over the rim of his teacup. Her laughter did not seem to preclude other feelings than merriness. Her words bore more weight than that, and expression spoke deeper than mere giggles floating on the breeze, as her bubbles did. In fact, he was rather reminded of a fractal pattern... the overall pattern was pleasing, pretty, and appealing. But when one looked closer, when one studied it, there were immense complexities, repeating nuances, patterns within the beauty that gave it strength and integrity.
He gave himself a slight shake, breaking free of his musings fancies. Who was he to compare a goddess to one of his fractal fantasies? Not everything was math, he chided himself silently. Especially when it came to other dieties.
He visibly lit up though at the mention of Taj. "It just so happens," he commented, taking another sip of the scrumptious tea, "that I am a guest of Mr. Mystery." He smiled a soft but warm smile. "He has been so kind as to take the lost waif into his humble home." He closed his eyes momentarily, wincing in regret at his own words which reminded him of Rairne. Again he felt that pressing desire to share her with this wonderous and strange Lady of Laughter.
"I should tell you about her sometime," he mumbled into his teacup, not meeting her eyes. He took a last gulp of the dregs of the tea, hastily trying to balance both the desire to tell her and the desire to keep Rairne to himself. It didn't occur to him that he'd spoken out of his thoughts and had not specified whom he meant. Instead, he stared down at the delicate cup in his hands, turning it round and round but not seeing the object itself at all.
This was going to be a long and hard road. Eftemie She laughed, clapping delightedly. "Then we are neighbors. I was going to ask what type of door would belong to a Pie Bird." A thought occurred to her of how like Pie Bird was to Counting Crow.
"Counting.. crow...?" she repeated softly.
It suddenly hit her and she gasped, before soft laughter slipped free as she stared intently at him. "Cosine is going to be very cross with me and so should you, Arc. I only just now realized the connection. You are her brother! She was most worried over you, but she is the one who spurred my own trip to Baadris. You should return with us when we go back. The buildings are glass and everything is desert. Rather interesting for a place that could be considered barren to some."
"We have become quite good friends." Lisana added with a smile. "And we have a great deal of fun together. It was meant to be that you found this alcove. And you should tell me about her sometime. I keep various things around to remind me of Eftemie. Not the least of which are those two horses out there playing. The violet one is Aridai and the dappled is Rorie. Both very mischievous. She seemed to collect critters of all sorts. So I am sure you will stumble over one or two at some point."
Aridai would tug at Rorie's tail until he got a reaction and then the other horse would give chase. Soon not only they were involved, but also a few of the stardust were giving chase or setting up interference between the two.
Lisana began to giggle. "I send my aoidei out to bathe them just because I know the horses will shove them into the water. It starts a rather interesting waterfight to watch."
Talencia He let her chatter swing his thoughts from Rairne to thoughts of Cosine. At least she was somewhat easier to think on, though things still didn't quite feel... settled, somehow, between them. Ah well, surely it would come with time? Hopefully? He smiled and nodded politely as she told him of the place they had gone, though his heart was not in it. He had enough to deal with here and now. Adventures on other planes or planets simply did not appeal to him presently.
Her shift in topic caught him unawares, though. His heart wrenched a bit again, though he tried to fight it down. His teeth sank into his lip and he glanced away, towards the horses he did not see. Her idle chatter pattered on his ears like spray from a fountain, not exactly unwelcome, but of no consequence either. He turned his gaze back down into his empty cup and gingerly set it down, squeezing his hands together in his lap and twining the fingers together tightly. So much to handle, and he feeling so not up to it. Eftemie Noting his empty cup, Lisana indicated the teapot as she picked it up. "Would you like another cup of tea, Arc? There is plenty. I find it soothing to just sit and let the world pass sometimes."
"You said that you and Taj were friends? How did that come about? I've not known Mystery long, but oddly he feels almost as if a brother in some way. He is the one who has helped settle mine into various things that I have no clue of, making sure I knew of the things going on. Even silent, he gets his point across though it's riddles more often than not. I think he reminds me of a cheshire cat sometimes." Talencia Once again, her gently insistent nature rolled over him, and he let it supercede his own thoughts gratefully. He nodded in acceptance of more of the tasty tea, taking a slow mouthful once it was poured. Perhaps there was a lesson here. The world was not crashing to a fiery end any longer, though it was still on its knees. His very next action or thought would not tip the balance of much of anything. It seemed there might be wisdom in learning to let go and, as she said, letting the world pass by. He inhaled the enticing scent that wafted up from his cup and closed his eyes for a moment, stilling himself inwardly and outwardly.
When she asked her question, he opened his eyes, and was surprised to find himself ready to explain what had happened to this dimply goddess. "He was my rescuer, I suppose you could say," he replied with a half smile. "I was imprisoned, by my own brashness, in a cube. The cube came into Mystery's hands, and being the know-it-all that he is," he smirked a bit, "he called in my twin to help him solve the puzzle. Once it was opened, I was let out again. I owe him my freedom and my sanity, truly." He took a sip, letting it trail across his tongue and reinforce his concious relaxation as a counter for the tale he told.
"He kindly offered to let me stay with him, and I have found him a fast friend. I would trust him with my very life." He was mildly surprised at the depth of feeling in that last statement. There was no denying that he too found Taj to be very like a brother. "Perhaps it is his very nature that makes us feel so about him, for who of us does not have our own secrets?" He quirked a brow inquisitively at Lisana above his cup as he drank once more. Yes, this tea-sipping was indeed useful for getting a grip when he felt it slipping. Eftemie "We all have our secrets," she agreed smiling. "And some are meant to be shared while others are not."
"But in truth, sanity is sometimes overrated, Arc. I have often wondered about my own, but I am who I am and one man's maniac is another man's clown." She snickered softly. "Not that what you went through was what you wanted, but there might have been something to learn from it."
She poured more tea into both their cups. "I remember a few things as the fading fell down on all of us. It was not one of my best moments. Laughter can be cruel and I have the impression that I was at some points then. But even those faint memories have taught me that I do not want to be like that. It is my choice. Just as it is your choice on how you want to see what happened to you."
Touching his hand for a moment, she added, "You have friends that can help you deal with it and be as you want to be. Taj. Me. Your sister. If the choice were between being normal or a bit on the crazy side, I'm afraid I would opt the crazy side. All the best crazy people are bonkers you know." Her lips curved upwards at her little joke. "It's what you do with that craziness that makes you different than the maniacs. All clowns know this to be true and they are still themselves inspite what society calls normal."Talencia Of course he'd learned something from his imprisonment, but it wasn't something he wanted to discuss with anyone at all. He wasn't sure he'd always feel that way, but for him, those were private lessons learned, not experiences to share. So he merely nodded mutely to her point and commented on the Fading. "I have no memories of that time specifically, so I cannot say what was my own demise, but I do think I am vastly different now than I was then." He paused for a thoughtful sip. "For me, that is enough. I will leave the ancient past in the dust and ruins it resides in." He had enough in the here and now to occupy his mind without dredging up the distant ages.
Her opinion on being sane or crazy amused him, though, once more drawing him from the edge of thoughts that might return him to his melacholy state. She dared call Taj a cheshire cat, while she smiled that smile and openly declared admiration for those most would deem insane. He smiled a little and shook his head, sipping once more. Lisana was definitely not what Arc would call normal, but he wouldn't dare to suggest that change. Perhaps he indeed wasn't quite entirely sane himself, since he found her company soothing, despite or because of her quirks. Eftemie "Perhaps it is best we do not have those memories entirely. We are not as we once were, Arc. I have thought a great deal about all that I have been through in this life. I think Lord Creation has tried to give us what we were lacking. For the fading to have happened, we failed him and ourselves. This is a new life."
She smiled somewhat sadly. "I remember a cruel laughter that cared little for those around her. Her whims were all that was important to her. I think back over those impressions and feelings of before the fading and I feel coldness. I think many of us were. We lacked.. humanity."
It was a small pun but more serious than she had been in awhile. "For lack of a better word." she added. "I feel warm now and when I look at the faces of the mortals around me I don't see strangers or simply followers. I see people who mean something to me."
"Or I'm more bonkers than the rest," she grinned widely. "But then again it might be the very reason everyone says 'send in the clowns'. It might be a way of saying we have gotten too big for our britches although most clowns wear baggy clothes anyhow." A giggle slipped free as she got to her feet.
"Enjoy the rest of the tea and the alcove. I have to go check on a few things before they all come looking for me. And Arc, it was very nice finally meeting you. Come visit me. My door is always open." It had turned out to be a very nice day.

Joint with Thabara, Meepfur, Mistalina1307.22.10 The actual rp is longer. This is where Lisana jumped in.mistalina13 "But telling you my name would ruin the fun, Overseer." Tien practically purred. This was so much fun already! She paused, her arms folding across her chest. "I can give you a hint though. I've seen the inside of your treasury and lived." That couldn't have been a task many have managed.
She would've paid more attention to the young goddess and her 'cousin' but Underworld was proving far more interesting for the moment. Meepfur ((Mwahaha. >D Love and Trickery, his favorites!))Hooray~! Though Adi caught the sound of the opening-then-closing door, she was quite distracted, and by the time she glanced, all the doors in sight were closed. Hmm. Oh well! "Oh, good! It's really plain, just green." Sometimes she wondered why it was plain and not like the other doors - maybe because it wasn't Ea's anymore? "I bet dinner will be ready, too. Nashwa's a really good cook! She even makes the eyes taste good."
...oh, whoops. Would Crys be alright with that? It hadn't occurred to her before she'd said it. Thabara Inside his treasury? That must have been a long time ago then, and certainly not a feat easily achieved, not even by a goddess. What did that make her then? Not Greed, no, he had already encountered Avaritia. Certainly one of the tricksters then, Thievery? No, wait. You just answered your own question. “Trickery,” he said cooly, the temperature seeming to plummet as he spoke. Lacrymosa had picked up the sound of the opening door as well, but as no one had come out before it closed again, it held little interest for her right now. Hm, that Adi's door was just all green was a bit of a problem – she hadn't quite figured out yet what green smelled or tasted like. Well, she did know a lot of things that were green, but she'd found nothing yet they all had in common. But that invitation for dinner certainly did sound fabulous. “I don't think eyes taste bad at all,” she announced. She'd tried them a few times. “Papa, when we're done, can we--” She broke off, blinking surprised a few times at the open hostility in her father's voice. Usually, he only ever did sound that angry when demons were brought up. But that lady had no demon-scent upon her. She wondered what she might have done to make her daddy be so angry with her … (( Kit, Medea, I see you lurking. And Ves too. Come and joinnnnnnn~! I had this RP started in the hallway on purpose! *dangles muse!bait* X3 )) mistalina13 (( ZOMG. Stargate! *squee* That cameo is gorgeous and perfect for Echo!!
edit: Thablet, I think you might've woke up my Tien!muse properly. =O ))"Mmm...that guess would be correct, Nergal." That wide, cheeky grin returned and she made another little bow. "My name is Tien, if you don't recall." The cooling temperature nipped at her skin; clearly he remembered something if he was this displeased. Tien was delighted, after all if her favorite target hadn't recalled their "fun" to some degree it wouldn't have been so entertaining for her.
She stole a quick glance at Crys, before returning her attention to Nergal. Papa, hn? So Underworld had offspring now, that was certainly something quite new. Trickery wouldn't play her games with the girl but it was information well worth filing away for later. Perhaps though, given the right time she would introduce herself to the girl properly. Meepfur Eyes, to Adi, had always been a little weird. And they still were pretty weird, but Nashwa made them alright. Anyway, it was good Crys liked them! What was her dad unhappy about, though? She hadn't been paying full attention before, but she did now. This Tien hadn't said or done much of anything, so why would he be upset? Goddess of Tricks sounded pretty cool to her, unless of course they were mean ones.Once Nashwa had told him there were people out in the hall, Rio couldn't resist; he wanted to know who, and he wanted to say hello! So, once he was presentable, he wandered out of his door and made sure to look pleasantly surprised to come upon the little gathering. Well, well, well...it was Nergal! He didn't look very happy, but then again, it was Underworld. His daughter was here too, and a goddess who looked vaguely familiar. Hmm.
"Well, good afternoon," he offered with a slight bow. "Lord Nergal, Lady Crys. And if I might ask...?" Perhaps the woman would be kind enough to enlighten him. Eftemie ((Okay, you talked me into it. I can play for the next hour and a half. Got a doctor's appointment today. )) A sigh of boredom slipped over her as she watched the aoidei go about their chores. Perhaps she should do a few. The thought slipped away quickly with a giggle. Not likely. Instead, she moved toward the door thinking that perhaps it was time to take a walk again. Grabbing a silk scarf from the table nearby, she wrapped it about her waist more as protection than modesty. She had discovered that some plants made her itch. In the back of her thoughts was the temptation to use them as part of a prank.
Her hand was still on the door as she spoke to the door handle- both halves. "Behave yourselves." she reminded as she shut the bubbled door, but then giggled again adding, "At least as much as normal, boys." One mumbled and the other laughed. That was usually the way of it.
Noticing several people in the hallway, she smiled when she saw Crys. But as her eyes traveled across the others, Lisana giggled. "Are we having a party in the hallway?" Then she stared at Nergal as she stepped closer. "Lord Nergal? Indeed, you have changed since last I saw you." With a smile on her face, she circled him entirely, looking him over.Thabara (( Ahahah, oh god. That would be, like, the icing on the cake. XDDD heart Shame it doesn't work out. Agh, sorry guys, had to rewrite the second half of my post to include Lisana as well. Hard to focus, am so huuuuuuungry ... )) “I would be outright lying if I were to say that I am pleased to meet you, Daughter of Lies,” Nergal said sternly, “so pardon me for not keeping to etiquette for once.” She hadn't done anything yet, not in this life, yet there was something about her that rubbed him entirely the wrong way. He wished he could wipe that insolent grin off her face somehow. She hasn't done anything yet, he kept reminding himself. “If you have no business with me, it would be better for you to be on your way now.”
Crys' eyes widened in awe as she kept listening. Papa was capable of being rude?! Well, about as rude as it got, considering this was Nergal. Underworld was just about to call out for his daughter, so that they might continue their little sightseeing tour of the Pantheon's doors, and much inclined to simply leave Tien standing and ignore her from now on, when a door quite close to the stairs was pulled open. A plain green door, completely without adornments, but he knew well enough who lived there. After all he had successfully managed to avoid him for years. “Rioooooooooooo~!” Crys cheered, only to happily squeal again moments later, as soon as she picked up Lisana's telltale giggle. “And aunt Lis too!!” The girl clapped her hands excitedly. This was getting better with every passing moment!! This was getting worse with every passing moment. Inwardly Nergal groaned. He wasn't going to get spared anything today, was he? “Greetings, Lord Desiderio, Lady Lisana,” he said, his face a frozen facade of politeness. He wouldn't have recognized Laughter if it hadn't been for his daughter calling her name. “We were just about to leave.”That brought a pout to his daughter's face almost immediately. She didn't want to leave. Not now that the air close to her was filled with the scent of sugar and raspberries, definitely not! mistalina13 "Shortly, Overseer. I don't wish to be rude." Tien turned her attention from the disgruntled Underworld to the two newcomers. She had rattled Nergal enough for the day; there would be many other opportunities besides this one. Morgan's memories supplied her with the name of the first to enter the hall and the female seemed familiar as well; it took the hint from Nergal to remind her.
"Rio, I've wondered how you've been." It didn't occur to her at first that Rio may not realize who her host was. "It is good to see you again. I am Tien, Trickery." That cheshire cat smile that irked Nergal so much softened. Her wings fluttered lazily as she turned to the other goddess. "Lisana...it's been too long."((I don't recall if we talked Efte, about how well they knew each other. x-x; )) Meepfur Oh, dear! Far from a party, it seemed, at least where Nergal was concerned. Everyone else seemed perfectly happy - until Underworld announced that they'd been just about to leave. Poor Crys! As another goddess arrived, Love knelt to kiss the hand of Grief in greeting. "How lovely to see you, my lady."
"Were you now? What a pity. Your daughter doesn't seem quite ready." There was the tiniest hint of disapproval in Rio's expression as he stood and straightened. Nergal might be uncomfortable, given his presence and Tien's - and possibly Lisana's - but that was hardly a good excuse to pull his daughter away from her friends.
Tien. Trickery. He was quite sure they'd never met before, but must have met her host. A quick tally of the mortal women he'd met and he soon placed her, and smiled. "Ah, I hadn't realized Morgan became a host. My apologies for not recognizing you sooner. It's a pleasure to meet you, Tien."
On to the next lady - really, on one hand, it might actually not be so bad if Nergal were to leave - to whom he bowed cordially and offered a charming smile. "Lady Lisana, is it? I am Rio, Love."
"And this is my daughter, Adrienne." This was in large part for Tien's benefit; after all, he'd been pregnant last he'd seen Morgan.Adi stayed mostly quiet, but chirped a bright "Hello!" when introduced. Otherwise, she too looked quite disappointed that Nergal wanted to leave. Well, he could leave if he wanted, but...
"Won't you let Crys stay, Uncle Nergal?" If Echo was her aunt and she was married to Nergal, that made him her uncle, right? The werewolf made her very best puppy eyes. "She was gonna come to dinner!" Eftemie ((Yup, yup, I'm back. )) Lisana's lips curved upwards as she watched Nergal. He was really uncomfortable and it was certain he needed to learn how to play with others more. Normally she would have teased him much more intensely, but the others were doing so which was far more amusing to her. "I think the last time my host, Eftemie, saw you it was at her birthday party. Echo was with you. She had hoped you both had a wonderful time there though she had no clue who you were at the time. She liked you both even in those few moments."
A quick warm hug to Crys and a whisper in the child's ear. "I hope Yeti has been sharing all those ... tasties with you." Her eyes said she was up to mischief and was quite sure that the cookies were occasionally spoiling the child's meals. "Perhaps you should have your father meet Yeti sometime." She was quite certain the creature would drool on him at some point.
Her attention turned to Tien at her words, her eyes sparkling as she watched the goddess. "When I see you, I see parties. And lots of pranks. I have the definite impression we were always getting into trouble together. Perhaps we should have one just for Lord Underworld. Although it might be more appropriate to have a 'block party' now while he is here."
"Adrienne.. Very pretty name. Love..." she repeated, as another giggle slipped free. No wonder Nergal was in such a position. Trickery, Love, and Laughter all had cornered him. What would he do next? "You have been very busy in my life of recent. I thank you for that though you have done it indirectly. I'm Laughter." Thabara Quite a shame the arrival of the newcomers was keeping Trickery from going her way, Nergal thought. Though, considering just who had chosen to join their conversation, he really preferred himself to be the one leaving. Trickery, Love, and then Laughter – really, the only one left to join their merry round and completely spoil his day was Greed. Crys giggled when Love kissed her hand, quite flattered that she was treated like a 'lady', just like her mom. What was it again, that you said in response? “The pleasure is all mine,” she replied all dignified, just as her mother had in similar situations. It made Nergal stare at her momentarily, but of course she wouldn't notice that. Nergal felt slightly at unease when he noticed Love's disapproval, especially as it was justified. He was the one wanting to get out of the vicinity of too many deities on his “do-not-want-to-talk-to” list at once, but hadn't Crys wanted to …? “Lacrymosa,” he queried, part of him trying to digest the fact that he'd been called 'uncle', “the doors?”“They can wait,” Crys chirped happily, “they're not going anywhere, are they?” That's what dad said of the Dead lately, whenever she poked why it was that he stuck around so much all of a sudden. “Come have dinner with us?” she tried. “They're going to have eyes.” She beamed, as if that was a special delicacy akin to caviar. “I thought we might have met in between, possibly,” Nergal responded to Lisana's explanation. His daughter was fond of her, he knew, so he was inclined to act a little more friendly towards her than to Tien. “But apparently that is not the case. The physical appearance changes a great deal, in between the initial fusing and the final rebirth.” He himself being the obvious proof of concept. Except for his dreads, he bore no semblance whatsoever to the woman who'd chosen to bear his gem, or even the slender, overly feminine form of the morph stage Hopefully that hadn't been too obvious when he'd encountered Laughter's host, or mayhaps she simply wouldn't remember.. “They were yummy,” Crys whispered back at her chosen aunt. “And he already met Yeti, I think.”In fact, Nergal had indeed taken notice of the creature that seemed to consist mainly of an oversized floating eyeball, playing with his completely eye less daughter – but only to give it an indignant stare and then promptly retreat into the relative peace and quiet of his study. mistalina13 "Ah, so this is the little one. I thought those pink eyes looked familiar. Well met, Adrienne." Tien nodded to the wolf girl again. From what she had witnessed Adi had cheerful manner, not unlike her divine parent. "It is a pleasure to meet you again as well Rio." She might have to seek his advice again, as Morgan had done long ago, on matters of the heart.
Trickery giggled at Lisana. "Mmm...it seems we would've and there is always plenty of time to do so again now that things aren't tumbling down around our ears. Mayhap we can find something to suit Nergal's tastes. Though, me thinks it might be a bit difficult." Nergal was more than a tad bland and stuffy after all and that was putting it lightly.(( Sorry, got caught up setting up stuff to print. )) Meepfur "Oh~?" Lisana certainly had his attention with that. "I do hope you've been ejoying it." He did love to hear these things, although it did sometimes diminish his own chances...but surely he wasn't the only god left who wasn't monogamous?
Desiderio chuckled. 'Block party,' indeed. "Might we go somewhere more comfortable?"
Had it just been the goddesses, he'd have suggested his own rooms, but had a sneaking suspicion that they might have to drag Underworld through the door, were that the case."Well, not all eyes," Adi added with a giggle. "Mostly we'll have deer, but there'll be two eyes. You can have them! Nashwa says the best parts are supposed to go to guests." Eftemie ((And Lisana is actually taken right now or she'd probably be tempted by Rio. He would be fun for awhile. And sorry, Thabs, just had to do it. XD )) Her eyes still watched Nergal somewhat. His discomfort was definitely due to the three of them, perhaps herself a little less. It would not do to spend all her teasing of him in this moment, but there was still some that he might tolerate. Eftemie had liked him, even as stodgy as he seemed to be. Once she might have continued despite another's discomfort, but not always now. But what to do in this situation?
She agreed with Nergal. "Not all changes are seen though. And thankfully, I am not entirely as I once was. The parties are still important but so too are other things." Turning to Crys a bit, she laughed softly. "Just make sure Yeti stays out of trouble while you have fun with him. I would warn you of the drool, but that would be obvious to one who has seen him." The latter was directed once more to Nergal before her eyes caught Rio's in amusement.
"And yes, he has been very attentive, plying with verse, gift, and affection." she replied to Rio.
She was quite certain that if a party began, Nergal was likely to find an excuse not to join them. But if they never left this spot... "A block party, if I remember correctly, Lord Rio, is outside in front of the homes or in this case doors of those living nearby."
"Isn't that right, Big Brother? That way Crys can continue to explore the doors and both of you can spend more time with all of us." she asked, turning directly to Nergal. A soft giggle slipped free at the nickname. Afterall, if she was Cry's aunt, then she could definitely consider him her 'big brother'. Eftemie had never had any siblings. And if she herself had, they were hidden deep in her memory- somewhere. It amused her either way.Thabara “I would prefer to be involved neither in parties nor in pranks of yours,” Nergal said stiffly, still trying to come up with a proper excuse to make a beeline for his own quarters. Improvisation never had been one of his strengths, and Crys' presence certainly wasn't making this any easier to deal with. “If it is alright with my daughter, I would prefer to retreat – there are things of greater importance on my plate than to spend time in idle chatter in the hallway.” He was fond of neither Love nor Laughter, but he trusted both of them enough to leave his daughter in their care – though with Trickery around, he was wary. She would be smart enough to not get his offspring involved in any trouble, she'd better. He gave Laughter an indignant stare when she referred to him as 'Big Brother' – sure, his children were 'adopting' aunts and uncles left and right, as it seemed (and he certainly wasn't exempt of that habit, as proven by young Caolan, and – mere minutes ago – Adrienne), but that didn't make any of them into his siblings. “I would not know,” he mumbled. “Parties, as you can certainly guess, are not my forte. You may refer me again whenever you wish to host a funeral ceremony.” There was a distinct hint of sarcasm in his words. “Besides, you seem to be under the impression that both of us want to spend time with you. Well, I, for once-”“Oh, Papa, pleeeeeeeeease …?” his daughter interrupted him, pleading. As usual, it was hard to resist. “It's gonna be fun! And you can have one of the eyes, there's only gonna be two, but Adi said, that Nashwa said, that the best bits are supposed to go to guests.” Never mind that there were more than just the two of them, and never mind just who Nashwa was. Instead she wondered if it wasn't possible to maybe make a salad out of eyes. Of course, you'd need quite a few of them first, but maybe they could be kept … pickled? mistalina13 Tien figured Nergal would have no interest in such things, doubly so given current company. Though it seemed the little goddess had a distinctly different idea. She giggled softly behind a hand, wondering how long he could put up with herself and the other two older divine for his daughter's sake.
Poor, poor Nergal. At least it meant this amusing scene would continue a bit longer.(( *watches Tien file information away for possible blackmailing purposes later. xP )) Meepfur "Don't block parties also involve food and folding chairs?" Rio grinned.
Love could, to some extent, understand why Nergal wanted to excuse himself; not everyone appreciated being teased, and he was getting it from both Laughter and Trickery. Which made him wonder - again - why Underworld might not like him. He was nice! He'd even helped him! Sure, he'd gone down and bothered him a few times, but that had been a very long time ago. And it still didn't seem like a very good reason.
Maybe he'd ask him, one of these days - if he ever actually saw him again. For the time being, he let their daughters handle pitching dinner to the Overseer of Souls.Adrienne nodded, confirming what Crys said while her tail wagged hopefully.((meep r zombie!post.)) Eftemie Lisana smiled and then laughed, a soft amusement. "I guess you do not like my nickname. It is a term of endearment, Nergal. That is what my host saw you as- at least you reminded her of such. A Big Brother. Though she did not have one, her father did and there is some aspect of him that she saw within you. I tease you because that is what both of us would have done, though perhaps I am far gentler this day than I previously have been in gathering my amusement at your expense." Was she apologizing?!! She supposed in some ways she was as she was not who she had been before the fading. There was no need for the raucous laughter of old. What everyone needed was the joyful laughter found in a new life. Even Nergal.
Did she remember ever meeting him before the fading? Not really which meant if he had come to a party it was a formality. She sighed, folded her arms and smiled, the bubbles swirling around her. If nothing else, Eftemie's strange world had made her see her reality even more clearly. "I think you should join us for this block party if we have it. If for no reason other than to torment us back. You might actually have a bit of fun. It cannot all be work, can it?"
With a wink at Rio, she added, as she dared Love, "Provided we can find folding chairs, food, and some entertainment? I happen to have a ghostly juggler that tosses his head. At least he seems to like doing so. Crys, Adrienne, any other ideas to make this fun?"((Sorry took me so long to reply, guys. Fridays are busy days... LOL at this point, they could very well end up having a block party in the hallway.. XD )) The Invisible Couch (( Oy, didn't intend to shut down the thread completely until I'm back? XD;;; )) “Well,” Nergal said reluctantly, looking upon his daughter's face, hopeful and pleading. Her lips were quivering, as if she was to about to start crying did he dare and say 'no' – knowing her abrupt mood swings, she might just do that. And Adrienne's wagging tail seemed awfully reminiscent of how Soto expressed his excitement (if it wasn't by jumping, dancing and cheering) all of a sudden. Underworld's impressive wingspan shifted slightly, telltale of his uneasiness and indecision where his face wasn't, then resettled in their usual regal position. It was possible, he was well aware, that Lacrymosa had extended her power towards him, however little it might be. Not on purpose, certainly not. But that twist in his heart which was said to be cold and made of stone, that pang of guilt and regret he felt … There were the powers of Love and Laughter to be considered as well, both of them visibly having ascended quite close to their former selves – he eyed them warily for but a moment, wondering if it was their influence which made him feel … rather sentimental. Tien, he simply ignored. “Well,” he repeated. “Perhaps I could stay … for a little. But do let me put this straight – I have interest in neither games of any sort, nor idle chatter.”“YAY!” Finally, Crys let go of her cousin, zooming straight towards her dad and jumping to glomp his legs. “Thank you!” she exclaimed enthusiastically, holding onto him as if she was some sort of little monkey. Nergal sighed, extending one pale hand to gently stroke his daughter's dull, dark hair. The affection he felt for her was obvious. “In that case,” he said to Lisana, “I shall take it as a compliment.” His tone was still far from being jovial, but it seemed he had relaxed to some … very small degree. “It does, however, also imply a certain degree of closeness between us, if you were serious about your statement. With due respect, but we are nowhere near that close.” A rebuke, albeit a surprisingly gentle one, just as her apology had come as a surprise to him. There was a chance, he found, amazingly enough, that he might be able to suffer their company after all – just as long as he wasn't the aim of their jokes and pranks at least. “You are the bestest daddy of the world,” Crys added, rubbing her cheek against his leg to show her affection, as if she was some sort of oversized cat. How .. was he possibly supposed to resist that. (( Ahah, have figured Nergal's antipathy out, finally. He loathes all deities that embody sin and deception. And it's deities whose domains are feelings that make him feel extremely uneasy. Pity that one of them happens to be his daughter, whoops. XD; )) mistalina13 Almost looks like you have Daddy wrapped around your little finger, hn? Tien smiled softly at the little goddess, biting back a giggle. She was a truly adorable little girl.
"I'll be on my way then, I think. No sense in bothering folk all in one day." Her gaze drifted back to the older deities. Trickery was a little wary of causing Underworld too much grief, lest his wrath turn on her. "I'll be around the grounds a while, if any of you have a wish to speak to me or plan anything." Her smile widened to that impish grin again that irked Nergal so much.
"Adieu for now." She made a quick bow and turned to continue on the way she was going, back down to the gardens. Meepfur "Food is easy enough. Foolding chairs, on the other hand...we may need a substituate. Which is just as well, since they're not very comfortable." Further musings on supplies for their 'block party,' however, were interrupted when Tien announced that she as leaving. Love looked visibly disppointed, although he could understand.
He bid her farewell with a smile and suggested, "You're welcome to visit me anytime you like."
But, back to the matter at hand... "No idle chatter at all? That's quite a tall order. Do you have any suggestions, then?""Umm...Nashwa can dance? And she was already making dinner, so we can have that! I'll go check~" Her tail wagging even harder, Adi was quick to hop to work, leaving the mini-party for the moment to check on the status of dinner - and the possiblity of other food as well - and whether or not the katta cared to have an audience. This was going to be like a picnic, but in the hallway! Eftemie The slight rebuke made her smile even more. "We may be one day, Nergal. Afterall, even your dark realm needs a little laughter to brighten it once in awhile."
Lisana laughed as she watched Nergal and Rio. The girls were definitely excited about this. Briefly she wondered if they made enough noise if more would join them. But even a small party was still a party. "I'll return shortly. I'm going to find Meroe." Bowing she turned, slipping into her rooms again.
"Arlecchino! Jhyett! One of you find Meroe and send him into the hallway. We need some entertainment. And a large plate of those cookies." She turned back to the door, then added, "And a small table to put them on. And some tea. And hurry!"
They blinked in surprise, staring at each other and then jumped when she added more orders. "Mrow! She must be having a party!" The feline replied as she sighed, tugging at the short dress Lisana had insisted she wear when outside her room.
Arlecchino laughed, bells jingling. "This should be fun, but why in the hallway? Go find Meroe. I'll get the cookies and table."
It took them about five minutes to gather the things their goddess wanted. Both slipped into the hallway quickly setting the table to the side with everything asked for. Meroe had been told, but Lisana knew that he would wait for the appropriate moment to appear, dropping and rolling his head across the floor. Hopefully he would make the sound loud enough that Crys would understand what had happened. A thought suddenly occurred to her. Perhaps she needed to find entertainment that was more suited to Crys. Although from the way the child moved from place to place, she did not even notice there was a difference.((That sounds like fun, Thabby. Take me with you? And Nergal is NOT allowed to steal Meroe when he shows up even if he is a ghost. )) The Invisible Couch (( Nergal: Ghost. MINE. >| )) Nergal did not bid farewell when Trickery left, and he sincerely hoped he wouldn't cross her ways again anytime soon. It could – and most certainly would – only mean trouble. “I did not forbid it,” Nergal replied to Love's complaint, his hairless brows furrowing slightly. “I merely meant to say that I will have no part in such activities.” And no dancing for him either, thank you, though he might enjoy watching a performance of such. Or not. Considering it was going a servant of Love's to possibly perform, he'd probably end up pointedly looking elsewhere. He … simply couldn't imagine that this 'Nashwa' would be anything else than scantily clad (at most!) and her dancing style to be of the rather … sensual kind. “I have no other suggestions,” he admitted. The performances that he preferred and 'enjoyed', ritual dances and mummers' plays, the plainchants of priests, the laments written to honor the dead – it all would prove to be rather dreary and not much of an entertainment to those present, he assumed, with the possible exception of his daughter. “I doubt it,” he said to Laughter. Their realms were just too different, he thought. Never mind the fact that Lacrymosa loved her, even though their domains were the complete opposite from one another, Comedy and Tragedy. He had seen symbols of those two united before, so maybe it was meant to be – even if he'd never wholly understand why. “Sometimes,” Crys whispered, quietly, calmly. “Sometimes you can't really tell if someone's laughing or crying. Sometimes it just sounds the same.”Nergal stared at his daughter, a shiver running down his spine. He was used to her saying random things at random times by now, that's children for you. But, why did she have to say this now, at this exact moment? Crys, unaware of her father's unease, continued to snuggle up to his legs. Her words just now, they had simply felt like the right thing to say. Meepfur Adi returned shortly after Lisana's servants arrived, with as many floor pillows stolen from Rio's sitting room as she could carry. She dropped them unceremoniously by the group, with a cheerful "Pick one~!"
"...are those cookies?"The spoken-of Nashwa followed, bowing respectfully to the small gathering of gods, and addressed them quietly, "Effendis. My apologies, but the bread that is meant to go with dinner is still baking. I will bring it all out to you as soon as it is ready."
Nergal had, of course, been exactly right in his unspoken assumptions about Nashwa - although to be fair, her clothing choice and dancing predated her association with the Love God. As did her demeanor, which was considerably more formal than those of his aoidei."Thank you, Nashwa." Rio smiled, bowing his head to her.
"Very well, then." Love accepted Underworld's...stick-in-the-mud attitude without further comment. At least he was still here. Crys' observation was odd, to say the least, but while it didn't bother him, he really wasn't sure what to say to it. So he said nothing. Eftemie Lisana watched Crys a moment, her eyes soft. "Yes, that's exactly right, Crys. There are times when clowns end up crying from laughing so hard they cannot control it. And those lamenting find something in their memories to smile and laugh about even though they have lost."
"But this is a party so shall we laugh until we cry or cry until we laugh?" the goddess asked, breaking into laughter as she placed a cookie into Crys' fingers. "A purple and blue tastie just for you." The cookie was in fact iced with violet and blue icing. She knew it was one of Yeti's favorites though thankfully he was unseen at the moment.
Her lips twitched upwards as she sat down on the cushions. "Yeti believes the cookies or tasties to be the poor fairies he once chased and ate. I'm afraid I tricked the poor creature long ago so that he would not try to consume them further."
Meroe slipped through the floor and into view. "You asked for me, my Lady?" he questioned as he bowed to her. His head toppled off his shoulders and rolled to stop at Rio's feet. His eyes looked upwards at the god with a grin. "I guess I needed more glue..." he stated, eyes turning to see who else was with his goddess.
It was then he noticed Nergal, body rushing forwards, grabbing his head and backed up several paces. His eyes widened until they looked like they were going to pop as he placed his head back onto his shoulders and continued to stare at Nergal. Bowing again to Nergal, he was astonished as his head rolled to Nergal's feet. He stared upwards in some horror, before moving forwards to snatch the offending body part. "Forgive me, my Lord. I seem to have trouble keeping my head straight."
Lisana was giggling as she watched him when suddenly he went down on his knees in front of them. She blinked staring at Meroe.
"Please don't take me away, my Lord." The fear was easily seen in the ghost's eyes, but there was amusement also at his head continuing to fall off even if it were unintentional.
She giggled as she watched the ghost. "Oh stop being a 'fraidy cat, Meroe. You aren't going anywhere."
His expression changed slightly as he shook his head again. It rocked from side to side, nearly tumbling off again. His lips twitched and he stated rather matter of factly. "I'm not a 'fraidy cat, my Lady. I'm a... a.... 'fraidy ghost." he finally stuttered out, a faint grin on his face at the slight joke. It was then his head tumbled off onto the floor again. He sighed, his body just standing there. Finally it moved, picking up the offending body part and held it in his hands. "I seem to have come entirely unglued this day."
Lisana burst into giggles, the bubbles whirling around. "I said he was amusing." She loved nothing more than slapstick and Meroe was getting better at it. But of course, he could use more practice.
Perri Indiya Kinsley awoke to an already packed bag being dropped next to his head. It took a moment for him to convince his eyes it would be safe to transition from surprise to blinking. "Are we going somewhere?""The pantheon." Caolan said, raising an eyebrow. "Today if possible."The young werewolf stretched as long as he could without hurting himself, making a point to take his time to find a loincloth to wear. The goddess cocked her head at that, as he normally dressed solely in his fur like his father. Shouldering his pack, he grinned at her. "I thought I'd dress up."She looked unamused, turning on her heel and leading the way to the door. She was small but moved surprisingly fast. Kin raced to catch up with her. "Why the sudden trip?""Don't you miss your family?"He rolled his eyes and concentrated on walking. It had been the yawning. Not that she was normally big on giving out information, but now she was just being petty. Three hours later she was still being petty, but at least they'd arrived. He shoved open the door, held it just long enough to make sure it didn't smack her in the face, and promptly tossed his bag against the wall. "We really need to get your magical transporter horse fixed.""I'm repairing the fabric of the universe as fast as I can." She replied dryly, slipping past him to search for something. Thabara Nashwa's appearance seemed at first to confirm Nergal's worst suspicions, but then he was taken off guard by how courteous she was in her demeanor and speech. Surprised, he returned her greeting with a polite nod. Lacrymosa smiled happily when she received her cookie, happily starting to nibble on it, icing first, with one arm still latched around her father's leg. Lisana always seemed to understand what she was trying to say, that was something she really liked about this aunt. She giggled at Meroe's antics, able to follow them well enough by sound. He was one of the very few ghosts that she could actually 'see', that was, she could hear him. Maybe he was special because he was Lisana's servant? Nergal seemed rather disconcerted, not even the hint of a smile appearing on his face. If this was supposed to be funny, he failed to see the humor in it. That the amusement might be for the others, on his expense, thankfully escaped him. “A dullahan?” he said, quirking a curious brow. “It has been a long time since I last saw one. Not the kind of creature I would expect to see in your service.” But then again, there were enough stories about mischievous ghosts, from the will o' the wisps leading unsuspecting travelers astray, to the rough games of the poltergeists. “Do not be concerned, Meroe,” he finally said, still somewhat bewildered that there might actually be common ground between his domain and that of Laughter. And even … No, not Trickery's. “You already are in the service of Another. I would not take you from her without a good reason.”
Gently, he lifted his daughter from the ground, and – after eying the cushions for a moment, sat down, with the little one seated upon his lap. Meepfur ...well, that was surprising! A ghostly head suddenly at his feet, Rio chuckled, but stopped when the spirit noticed Nergal and became serious. Once it became clear Meroe was in no 'danger,' however, he eased - and selected a cushion, as ordered by his daughter.A ghost? Oh, dear. Nashwa had heard of them, of course, but never actually seen one. And this one was most strange. The katta regarded him with some curiosity before bowing once more and returning to Rio's rooms to watch over her bread. It was quite fascinating to actually see a ghost, although Adrienne was soon startled when his head fell off. She wasn't quite sure what to think! It was kind of funny, but it was also kind of sad, especially since he was clearly afraid of Nergal.
Even in the midst of the distractions, Adi's tufted ears lifted. She could hear voices nearby, both of them quite familiar. Werewolf twin detection system, go! "Kin?" Eftemie A giggle slipped free as the air was filled with bubbles spiraling around. Some popped immediately while others drifted around, caught by the currents in the hallway. Sitting cross-legged on the cushion, the goddess motioned for Meroe to continue. A smile crossed her face as she nodded to Nergal.
"Normally not, but he seemed to like jokes and being amusing. Actually that is how I found the captain of my guards also. He snickered at something I said to the sultan and then I stole Hasheem away." Her lips twitched upwards. "He's amusing too, but a very good captain also. Everyone should laugh a little. It makes the moments mean more when they are remembered."
It was then a troupe of clowns and jugglers came bouncing down towards them from the mortal hallway. Brightly colored pins were tossed back and forth between a couple. A clown was wearing baggy pants and tripped several times as he continually pulled them back up to his waist. Finally he reached out, grabbing the jumprope from the clown next to him, causing a tug of war. Finally getting the upper hand, the clown smirked as he tied the rope around his waist several times to hold his pants up. As soon as that was done, his right shoe which was far larger than the other would fall off tripping him.
Meroe winked at Lisana then interrupted the two juggling by tossing his head into the mix. The startled juggler blinked in surprise dropping the head immediately. A grin appeared as Meroe's head stated, "Heads will roll!" Lisana giggled again, as she watched the clowns and Meroe. The ghost had relaxed upon understanding that he was not going anywhere with Nergal. Although she had not thought of that possibility, she was pleased that Nergal understood her fondness of Meroe. Hearing the sounds, she popped her head out the door of Taj's rooms. Blinking in surprise, Delphine glanced around at the activity. Her lips curved upwards as she disappeared back into the room and then returned with a plate of small cakes that had been made earlier that day. Placing them on the table, the girl watched for a moment before approaching Lisana.
Stepping discreetly behind the goddess, she whispered, "Lady Lisana, when you have a chance, I need to speak to you about the teas Arabel blends for you." Turning away, she headed once more towards Taj's rooms. Glancing over at Nergal, Crys, Rio, and Adi, Lisana sighed as she got to her feet. "Enjoy the rest of the party. I should see what Taj needs. Or perhaps Arctang. Either way, it was fun, my Lords, and a pleasure to meet you. We will have to do this again."
Leaning over she whispered to Crys, reminding her, "Don't spoil your dinner too much with all the cookies, Crys. I'll send Yeti to visit you later."
Bowing, Lisana moved towards the plain door she knew was Mystery's. Opening it twice she disappeared inside. Hopefully everyone else would stay to enjoy the party.
