A Cafe -- Lumena Town Square

He breathed in deeply before replying to Phil, and he sighed in exaggerated frustration, his eyes still glowing softly with what must have been affection and relief. "I did meet Theo, briefly; I do not know how much he absorbed, however. It was kind of brief," he answered. He grumbled a little, shook his head, and added, "Keep my worries, then, so they stop coming back to me every time I lose sight of you." He knew there was no reason to worry about Phil, but it was a new compulsion, one which was a little uncomfortable.

It did not help in the least that Orpheus was so unrepentantly happy to see Philemon. Even though Rajih was frantic as they finally sat down in the cafe, and there was a witch-eater, and apparently he had missed-- Okay, well, at mass killings, Orpheus's smile did fade at least a little. He sighed and leaned forward, resting one elbow on the table, his face against one palm. Replying, probably a little delayed, to introductions, he got more comfortable in the cafe booth and shut his eyes for a second, thinking. There was only one creature he truly detested, and that was the witch-eater; his entire life's work would one day be dedicated to their utter erradication. Orpheus assessed the situation, and realized that it would not benefit him to start trouble with Emelia, no matter what she was. At least she had not tried to harm Phil, and that was his main worry at any rate.

"New witch?" He asked, repeating Rajih with a smile. In the Academy, he had annoyed more than one witchling by maintaining his relatively carefree attitude throughout it all. He had graduated early however, had he not? Clearly something had worked out in his favour. "Rajih, I have heard all about you; nice to have a face to go with the name," he said, grinning. Underneath the table, he had slipped one hand discreetly towards Phil, seeking his hand out. The craving for close contact was apparently still powerful. "Technically, I popped out of a portal; I did come from somewhere, just very quickly. I heard Theo shouting for Philemon and it made me nervous," he apologized, somewhat, shaking his head.

Orpheus looked at Phil as Phil smiled at him, calling him crazy. "What can I say? It's a gift from this little thing," he said, raising his free hand onto the table and resting his wrist and the back of his hand against the table so that the tender skin of his wrist's underside was visible: a small black sliver of something glowed underneath it, pulsing something into the blood. "Most of it got into my tea, but that remains. Although I guess I was always crazy."

Orpheus's face lit up, suddenly, as he remembered the other reason he had wanted to find Phil. "Speaking of the ball, Philemon--" he glanced across at Emelia and Rajih, and realized they were in the middle of a much more weighty conversation. "You know what, I guess I should talk to you about that later," he added, smiling wryly. He did offer Phil, however, "Rajih looks incredibly flustered. Maybe he could use a song...?" he asked Phil, smiling, turning his face in a way that the musical note tattooed on his cheek was visible again.

Lumena: Town Square

Phil had stopped. He'd turned around. And Theo had called out to him again. He could feel his heart pounding violently in his chest, a worry, a fear that he refused to acknowledge pull him in deeper into its depths. He kept moving, pushing people aside as he tried to close the vast gap between them. He was trying so hard, but it wasn't enough, was it? It wouldn't be enough if something happened to Phil. The fear he didn't want to voice out was clearly written out in his mind, tormenting him with terrible scenarios, possibilities. But this wasn't the time nor place for it. Theo forced the thoughts from his mind, his hand reaching out for his brother.

The crowds. They still surrounded him, pressing against him as he tried to get closer to Phil. He didn't care he was making one hell of a spectacle, screaming like this. But his twin... He couldn't let anything happen to the other half of him. Theo watched helplessly as Rajih pulled his brother away, out of his sight, out of his reach. The sea of people drowned them out, drowned out his cries to them. Just like they always did. Theo felt so helpless right now, having lost sight of his brother. But that didn't matter. He kept skimming the crowds for that familiar blonde head anyways. He had to try, at the very least. He had to try for Phil. Where were you? He wondered as he looked, trying to get to where he had last seen Phil.

Then that voice... Theo briefly saw a flash of orange before it disappeared. What was that? But he had heard something.. Something about searching for Phil. And a name. Orpheus. That was a name that had come up once in their recent conversations. Phil had never brought it up again, curiously enough. It made Theo suspect that there was more to it than Phil had let on, but he hadn't had any opportunity to probe deeper into the matter. Theo sighed wearily, running his fingers through his hair. He had lost his brother. He wanted to kick himself for letting such a thing happen.

Then that voice.. A familiar voice. One he knew almost too well. Kyu. Theo almost wanted to sigh in relief, but Kyu couldn't do anything either. "Phil." The word escaped him with a heavy sigh. "I lost him..." Theo stopped there as the crowd swirled past him, a never ending flood of people pushing past him, places to go and things to do. Even if Phil died today, life would go on for these people, these people who didn't care. Theo's face took on a hard look as he stood there, everything blending into a colourful blur of people and decorations. It was overwhelming, all this people, all this commotion. It was all so insignificant.

And yet it meant everything to him.

Kalypso knew how Cedar must have been feeling. She too had no parents, had no family to call her own. She had to learn from a early age to take care of herself.

Kalypso shook her head to rid of the memories. And smiled when she heard about going to the ball as a group. "That sounds like a good idea to me. I normally would just go and stay in the shadows of a corner and observe everyone else at the ball. I just hope we don't have to dress fancy or anything like that."

She looked over at Lea and Xerxes and tried to envision them in suits. For some reason that made her giggle. She kept thinking about the book "puss in boots"

She thought about all the reapers out on the square with them. "Do you think they will have reapers posted there to watch and make sure nothing bad happens?."

Rajih worried his hands together before laying them flat on the table. He knew as soon as Phil spoke that the boy understood exactly what Rajih was on about and sighed in relief, a almost impeccable ease set around him before he nodded.

"Thank you Phil." He watched Emelia out of the corner of his eye eat the parfait and then introduce herself. His hand instantly snuck out to grab her wrist before Phil could even extend his own, or Orpheus either. "Don't worry about proper introductions Emelia." He turned a feral smile on her, he knew it was mean but Phil was his best friend. He'd die before he let the hand of a witch eater touch his. His attention turned to Orpheus and smiled geniuely now. "Ah right! I live with Phil now as well too. It's a pleasure to meet ummm...." Rajih wasn't sure what to place the two...friends? He had just met the other boy but it seemed like Orpheus geniuenly cared about Phil so, "Nice to meet another friend Orpheus." He still held Emelia's hand in his own before lacing her fingers through her when she explained the situation. Though he detested her...and the choice she made...and her kind. What she spoke was true. He was acting no better to her then a common reaper.

"It's not you, I'm really worried about Emelia, It's the humans who would kill you for nothing more than what you are and be on there merry way. It's not just that either. Witch eaters like yourself are in a uproar as well, They'll be quick to turn on each other." Rajih looked at Phil and Orpheus, aware that he had shown a soft side to the witch eater. "Ah...." He shifted again uncomfortably realizing that Orpheus, who was a new witch had just heard Rajih hint at humans and Majins. "I think cause your a friend of Phil's, I hope you'll don't mind this but...." Rajih leaned forward, "I'm a Majin, please don't tell anyone, Phil and Emelia know but that's it." Rajih nodded his head as he looked at the object Orpheus held out, "Oh so that's how you came poofing in and out." What was it??? Whatever it was though, Orpheus had good control over it. "Song?" His ears perked before settling back, he had Emelia's hand still in his as he rubbed his chin with the other. "Oh Phil! Are you going to the ball, its suppose to be a special dance for couples and I've heard plenty of people are going to be there." Rajih smiled.

Ophelia winced at the sting of Theo's words. He sounded like he was ready to murder Rajih. Weren't they friends? Didn't he trust him? Though running off with a witch eater and bringing Phil with him did seem a little suspicious...But still, Ophelia clung to the hope that Rajih wasn't doing anything dangerous. That he'd keep Phil safe despite pulling him towards danger.

The reaper struggled to keep up with Theo, sincerely regretting not keeping herself in shape as her breath grew heavy and sweat formed behind her bangs. As Theo pushed his way through the crowd, Ophelia followed in the path he carved, shouting quick apologies to the people they passed.

She almost collided with the blue witch, placing a hand on his shoulder for balance, when someone appeared before him. The witch introduced himself as Orpheus, and Ophelia felt a little calmer that he seemed to be looking for Phil as well. When Orpheus disappeared, as strangely as he had appeared, the reaper hoped he'd find him soon.

Soon after, another figure showed up. A man with raven hair, clad in armor. He seemed to know Theo as well, as he placed a hand on the boy's shoulder. Ophelia closed the gap that was between her and Theo, standing beside him while catching her breath. She made a mental note to start jogging in the mornings, this was ridiculous. She looked up at Theo when he spoke, and suddenly felt her brow furrow, "Oh PLEASE!" she bursted, her voice loud despite her smaller size. "You're just giving up? Phil's off with a witch eater and you're just going to stand here? It might be a big town with a big crowd, but they can't have gotten THAT far!" she said, shoving one of Theo's shoulders, hoping to snap him out of whatever mood he'd gotten into. She knew Emelia, what she was capable of. She also knew she was capable of self-restraint. But even then, the reaper didn't trust her. Not with Phil -or- Rajih.

She looked up to the man before them, "You look capable enough. Help us find Phil, will you?" she said, somewhat forcefully. She might not be Phil's twin. She'd never know the sort of bond Theo shared with him. But that didn't mean that he wasn't important to her. And she wasn't about to give up.

Lumena Castle Town: Square

Sade's nervousness was quickly fading in Athir's presence - he seemed so kind! Very much unlike the powerful aura of the nomadic mononoke from the night before, or Salem's heady charms. Her previous smile returned, just as warm and vibrant as if the slight had never happened. Ember-bright eyes followed his gesture, and nodded; that was the place. Was he not as popular as the crowd of people around him made him seem?

But they moved onto another subject just as quickly. "Oh yes, there's a library here!" Aether forbid he be interested in it - she had found him reading, after all. How silly of her! "One of the Hallow's most famous, to be honest. It's here, behind the square." And the girl pointed to a path leading away from the multitudes, overhung with two stone arches. The way was no less decorated, however, and orange lights misted over Hallow's Eve decorations in doorways and alleys just out of sight. "I've never been, but we read about it in class." Of course, Sade had promised herself that she would go, eventually. What better time than now? She turned toward it, eyes and smile inviting Athir to follow.

"Forgive me for asking," her voice gently lowered, perhaps in response to downcast eyes, "but are you new here? I thought you lived in Lumena, what with the number of friends you have." Her fingers flipped back, briefly, to the crowd around his former sitting-place. "Perhaps I was wrong, though? I can't imagine anyone living in the Castle Town and not knowing about the library."

Well... that hadn't gone too bad, had it? At least noone had shot his idea down so far. Lea smiled at everyone in the group, inwardly glad that he had taken the initiative in making the suggestion. If everyone was as ill-prepared for the ball as him, it was highly likely that they would all need some form of appropriate attire next. The academy uniform, though convenient at times, just simply would not do.

Noticing that Cedar was shivering, Lea took a few seconds to try to gauge where the draft was coming from then shifted his position slightly in order to shield her from it, hoping that that would help some. While the cold didn't bother him terribly much, he did have a tendency to forget that that was not the case with everyone around him. Still, there was really little that he could do and their best course of action would actually be to head indoors soon.

"I think that security will definitely be a concern at the back of everyone's minds given the recent events." Lea gestured towards the reapers who were stationed around them, attempting to address any concerns the others might have about the issue of safety. "They will be there. The Cerberus Knights too, this being Lumena after all. We should be fine as long as we don't take unnecessary risks and try to stay together."

Shortly after those words had left his lips, Lea belatedly realized that he had been too quick to assume that all of them could be trusted to have nothing to do with the recent murders. It was a very remote possibility but what if all 3 of them turned out to be the Witch-Eaters in question and this seemingly coincidental meeting had actually been a carefully orchestrated one right from his meeting with Kalypso the previous night?

If that indeed was the case, Lea could only blame his own misfortune but he would not go down without a fight. "How about we split up to do some shopping? Shall we meet back here in... 2 hours? Or do you ladies need more time to get what you need?" There was only so many precautions one could take after all. The rest was really up to luck.

Ruria shrugged at Salem's words, casting a slightly surprised look at him. "It's just the truth, isn't it? You do seem quite ghoulish, I thought it would compliment you." She certainly didn't hate Salem, but she would not so soon forget the quips thrown at her the last time they met. Socially awkward Ruria would not succumb to such things, even if she couldn't quite hold a conversation.

She suddenly eeped as Rosel flung her arms around Azra'iel, quite surprised at the motion. "....First dance?" she said, blinking in surprise a few times. "I'll dance with you, too! I happen to be an exquisite ballroom dancer. I'll demonstrate!" she extended her hand towards Rosel, as if waiting for her to join her in a musicless waltz of sorts. Cherry-hued eyes locked onto her face, her expression still yet gentle, though something stirred deep in those eyes....as if she were studying the lady in front of her, trying to read whatever feelings came to her. Of course, her senses were quite basic. She was no diviner, no fortune teller. She was simply...curious of this other female, who seemed so different from herself. Confident and social, yet someone who held a teasing mockery of those around them.

He appeared to have been unsettling a lot of people that day and he felt bad that all of them just had to be those closest to him. Theo, Rajih, Orpheus... He pushed by on his seat and sighed, bringing his hand to rub at his forehead in a tired manner for another time. There was some pressure of the rather unpleasant type building back there and he was finding himself more and more in need of something to break it and relieve it. Just too much information to process at one time even if he was used to crowds. And Emelia's next words pretty much explained the situation well enough.

"D-Don't get me wrong." he made haste to apologize to Emelia. "I didn't mean ill when I said... I have nothing against the Majin, see?" he was just a little flustered, even more embarrassed. He shouldn't have said such a thing to such a lovely lady; why, in his mind, he was borderline unforgivable. He sighed and shook his head again. "Are we certain it's a witch eater? I mean... I've never heard of one behaving so irresponsibly? Even the hungriest one should be sated for a while when consuming a heart, right?" it could have been greed but part of him doubted that. His eyes as well as mind were growing cloudy. He couldn't bring himself to understand. But if it wasn't a witch eater what was he implying that it was? The only people with the ability to remove hearts where the reapers... He shuddered recalling the conversation he had had with Ophelia once, his first real conversation with someone on the inside. Some reapers went overboard hunting innocent Majin that had never done any harm and he remembered almost joking about them hunting humans next. He didn't even want to consider something like that.

He found himself overwhelmed and leaned against Orpheus with little to no strength to reply anymore. He barely even registered Orpheus talking about the ball and he found himself merely nodding his head in agreement when it was mentioned they should really discuss that later. He couldn't agree more to Orpheus' mention of a song. Somehow, no matter what music it was that he would create it was always about the best thing Phil had ever heard and it did soothe him more than anyone could possibly imagine.

He nodded thoughtfully at Rajih's words and sighed. "We could ask teacher for shelter I suppose... nobody would bother a Knight's house, after all, would they?" he frowned a little thinking about it; could he possibly ask such a favour of him, though. And would he accept? He was already running the risk of simply being there himself, would they not suspect him if he sheltered Emelia with him to top it off? His frown grew more intense as thoughts kept overlapping other thoughts, fighting for dominance. "I just wish people wouldn't have to be that way..." he uttered for the thousandth or more time in his life. It always saddened him so to have to sit and watch all those events unfold.

Speaking of the ball though, and listening to Rajih's explanation the pieces started clicking into place and he found himself glancing up at Orpheus. He wanted to ask him something about the ball but what exactly was it? He couldn't possibly have wanted to ask him to the ball, but on the other hand... he could see nothing wrong with that either. "I... I don't know..." he tried his best to smile a little, thinking about it. "Perhaps if I can find a date in time..." he joked, looking down at his hands. "Are you going with Emelia?" he finally beamed up at him despite the fact that Rajih had repeatedly stated that she was not his date.

Kyu found himself sighing, ever so softly. One hand already up to push more dark locks behind his ear in a light, uneasy motion. Theo sounded genuinely worried if nothing, it couldn't possibly be 'nothing', could it? He looked so desolate Kyu had to keep himself from pulling Theo close to comfort him. Too bad there were so many people. Not even his ability to sense borders would help them in that situation. Too many overlapping disturbances to exactly locate that familiar pulse. "Did you see which way he went?" he simply asked, looking around. It was a good thing he was a knight, in the end. Walking through the crowd would be a lot easier for him.

He nodded in agreement with the white-haired girl's response to Theo's dropping of the head finding the statement to be entirely true. Not to mention Theo was used in Moonfall, a city far larger and more crowded than Lumena in the first place. He did understand his concern now that he heard he was off with a witch eater but Phil was often in company of the second kind seeing how much he appreciated them and believed them to be equal to humans. He hardly had any reason to fear, Kyu thought to himself, even with the resent chain of incidents no witch eater would assault a human in broad daylight, and certainly not in such a crowded place. "Well-spoken, young lady." Kyu smiled at her offering a small bow as a greeting.

He looked up ahead and closed his eyes. "But of course." he offered a small reassuring smile before looking away. He didn't have to be asked to assist them in their search. He'd be simply glad to do just that. With his eyes closed he moved his conscious to his own pulse and felt its border rippling gently around that off others. There were indeed many people, too many people in that place. Despite having lived in Lumena for several years that crowd almost seemed... suspicious to him. Just about as he was starting to think of that, he felt Phil's familiar presence gently brushing against his own and perhaps he couldn't tell exactly where he was but at least the girl had been right. He wasn't that far away, and he at least had a general direction to start looking from. "Lets find him, ne, Theo?" he spoke gently extending a hand to him. He couldn't have him feeling so down, in the end.

Lumena Town Square

It irritated him. Ophelia was being very, very irritating. "Can you please shut up?!" Theo snapped at her. "I know Phil, he is my twin." His eyes blazed as he turned to face her. "I have never given up on him, and I never will." His face was hard, his lips set in an unforgiving line. Theo needed to think. He could almost sense Phil somewhere nearby, but just beyond his grasp. He ran his hand through his hair again, attemtpting to relive some of the stress he felt. How could Ophelia even think he was giving up?! He would never ever leave Phil behind. Never. He promised to be there for Phil whenever his twin needed him. Theo brushed Kyu's hand off his shoulder. He didn't want to rationalize this out. His eyes scanned the sea of people against before he gave up looking. He'd follow his gut instincts. They would take him to Phil.

It was exasperating. Frustrating and completely, utterly confusing. He could almost feel himself falter in tiredness, which was really inexplicable. It had to be Phil. Theo started moving again, this time not even listening to Kyu or Ophelia. His head hurt too much. It didn't matter anymore. Even in Moonfall... It was more crowded than Moonfall. Everyone was here for the Hallow's Eve ball. He felt almost claustrophobic, pressed up against so many people. Why did he feel so tired all of a sudden? It hurt to think, to try and process what Ophelia was saying. All he knew now was that Phil was missing. And that he had to find him. And that Kyu was nearby, somewhere with Ophelia. He didn't know anymore.

Suddenly, the world was spinning around him in a kaleidescope of blinding colours. They were so bright that it hurt. Theo stopped, trying to regain his sense of equilibrium. But that wasn't working. His head was throbbing dully, the beginnings of a terrible headache. He continued to plough forward through the sea of people, barely registering the sights that greeted him. He closed his eyes but dazzling colourx continued to dance in front of him in bewildering patterns that made his head hurt. It was dizzying as he tried to open his eyes again. His vision was a complete blur as he continued to keep moving onwards, closer to where phil was. Then he missed a step and stumbled, black spots appearing in his vision. Everything blacked out before he even hit the pavement.

Cedar glanced at Lea and smiled when he moved his position to help block the breeze. It really was her own fault for not dressing correctly for the weather. But she nodded in agreement with Lea when he talked about the security and the ball. So many witches gathered like that would be just asking for trouble... And there would be safety in numbers... Unless of course there was more then one witch eater around doing this. They all seemed so young, she didn't want to think the three she stood with could have anything to do with it. There were others around that seemed better suited.

"I think two hours would be plenty. Unless Kalypso turns out to be a shopaholic." Cedar smiled over at the other girl, she doubted that she was that interested in shopping. But Cedar has been wrong before. "But I think by then it'll be getting dark, maybe we should try and meet up in the cafe over there?"

A single eyebrow rose in disbelief. Was she serious? Making an absolute spectacle of themselves for no particular reason? If she hadn’t been cozy with a Black Heart, Rosel would have adored this girl. It would be such bad luck for poor Az if the girl ended up batting for the other team. And if Rosel could help that along? All the more fun. She hoped the girl really was a good dancer though; Rosel hadn’t formally danced since her own wedding.

Stepping away from Az, she met Ruria’s gaze with a wry smirk. ”Well, aren’t you the adventurous type. I do hope you know how to lead though? It’s been a while.” Though obviously still a student, she had a discerning look and Rosel absently wondered if she was Majin. The smallest of tastes of her energy confirmed she wasn’t, but Rosel still resolved to guard her face behind a smirk.

Moving to stand in front of her, Rosel lifted her hands to the proper positions. This was going to be ridiculously awkward. Rosel had never danced with someone shorter than her… Not to mention her chest was very nearly right in Ruria’s face. ”I’m Rosel, by the way. Since our mutual friend hasn’t seen fit to introduce us.” She glanced at Azra’iel briefly as she set her hand on Ruria’s shoulder. Oh, he’d be stewing over that one, and he’d be more than making up for it, she’d make sure of it. With a slight smile, she looked over at him fully. ”Music, maestro? It’s the least you could do.”

Orpheus couldn't help but glance over at Emelia again, as Rajih said that he wasn't worried about Emelia, but rather the humans who would kill her for "nothing more" than what she "was." He arched one brow; just because he was going to be relatively peaceful didn't mean he would pretend she hadn't devoured a witch's heart. That would never sit quite right with him, especially not with an explanation or more time getting to know Emelia, perhaps in which he would understand her motivations. For the moment, he was definitely not about to brush her previous act aside; even if it had been just once, which he would not know either way, it was still a glaring fact in Orpheus's mind. He refused to stare, in any case, and returned to looking at Philemon with a soft smile before looking back up at Rajih.

Rajih startled amicable laughter out of Orpheus, however brief; to be called Phil's friend and yet possess the memories he did was amusing to him. He smiled, and replied, "I certainly hope I'm a friend of Philemon's, and perhaps this will mean a new friendship for us as well." He winked at Rajih, and squeezed Philemon's knee under the table, gently.

"Naturally, I will not tell anyone," Orpheus promised, leaning back in the seat. He looked pensive for a moment, however, a little more grave; his easygoing smile had faded for a pause. He didn't say it aloud, but locked in his body language was the assertion that so long as Rajih remained merely a Majin and never consumed the heart of a witch, Orpheus would never harm him nor expose him. But he could make no promises about the future; anyone who had harmed a Witch would one day be his target, and that couldn't change, even if he did love Phil. He agreed with Phil; was the chaos proven to be the work of a witch eater? It seemed too convenient that the one thing everyone believed to be responsible would truly be at fault. "Philemon is right, is there proof? I am hesitant to blame any individual until we understand, especially after whatever happened with the guardian at the school not so long ago..." Orpheus paused, thinking about how he had rushed into the fray, only to fail to have an effect on the beast; it was a school official who had dealt with it.

He unconsciously shifted closer to Phil as he leaned against him, and hummed a low couple notes, comforting notes; his magic was all in his music, and so in order to protect Phil, it was automatic that he would cast even the smallest of unconscious spells, just to soothe and relax them. He still wondered, absently, if Philemon's singing voice might be more beautiful than he could fathom, and hoped he would get the chance to test this soon. Even a raw voice could become an angel's harmony, if given time to spread its wings.

Orpheus smiled, again, when Rajih noted the chaos fragment, but he didn't explain that it was a shard of some material which allowed him to manipulate the boundaries of space. He had grown much more adept with it since meeting Philemon, but he had always loved his hammerspaces since graduating. And then, with Rajih's questioning word: Song? Orpheus's face lit up entirely, his body relaxing against Philemon's. He did, however, look at Phil with a complex slew of emotions when Rajih asked him if he was going to the ball.

Finally, he felt Philemon looking over at him, and glanced over at the witch. Again, he was overcome with tenderness for Phil, and a desire to hold onto him so tightly that they became one essence. "Speaking of finding a date in time, Philemon..." Orpheus sighed, and then laughed at himself, before sneaking a quick kiss onto Phil's forehead, moving so quickly that it wasn't entirely clear what he had actually done. His skin was flushed, however, and he said, "Philemon, might you ever consider attending the ball as my formal accompaniment?" And then, he realized how stiffly he had worded it; one of his family's grammatical structures was seeping through. "What I mean to say is, come with me to the ball? I'd love it if you'd be my date."

He looked back over at Rajih and Emelia, as if nothing remotely alarming or personal had happened, smiled, and then remembered he was going to play them something. He took a pipe out of his hammerspace with his free hand, so that he didn't disturb Phil, and began to play it one-handed; it was simply a little tin pipe, and it had a sweet sound to it. He played a folk song about bringing in the harvest, in hopes of calming his friends.

An ear flicked when the topic of clothing came up. "Does anyone know what sort of clothing is required for the ball?" He didn't have anything fancy, and if it came to buying some, he would be hopelessly lost. When not in his uniform, he always dressed for comfort rather than style. Buying anything expensive was usually not on his mind since any pants he bought would need a minor adjustment to fit his tail. He didn't want to ruin any fancy, expensive pants by ripping a hole in them.

His gaze darted around, catching sight of numerous Reapers patrolling the square. Would a Witch Eater really try to attack anyone with so many Reapers around? He didn't think it would be wise of them even without the huge amount of Reapers. There were so many people around, he didn't see how any Witch Eater could get away with another attack. But all the security and whispers of suspicion about who might be the Witch Eater behind the attacks left him with a nervous feeling that made his tail jerk back and forth and curl between his legs. He liked the idea of sticking together in a group. It somehow made him feel safer.

Two hours seemed like plenty of time to him. He glanced over at the cafe that Cedar pointed out. "That sounds like a great idea," Xerxes said. A hot drink was sounding good on a chilly night like this one. "I just hope I can find something decent to wear to the ball." He scratched the back of his head with a soft chuckle. It would be rather embarrassing if he had to wear something like his school uniform to the ball for lack of anything fancy enough to wear.

Salem's brow furrowed at Ruria's words, and he held off on a response whilst he contemplated them. The man was far beyond insults thrown by humans, of course, but it occurred to him that she persisted on calling him a ghoul, despite confused stares from Az and the fact that his glammer seemed to be fooling just about everyone besides her. He had constructed the magic carefully, but had he encountered someone who could pierce the veil of his ruse and see what lay beneath? It would be such a shame to think there were those that could resist him, for it made him doubt his own power the slightest bit. Or perhaps he was simply overthinking it, and Ruria spoke from memory rather than current perception. Salem decided this was the more probable (and far more appealing) answer, but still filed the thought away for later research. He'd return to the question when the events died down.

Salem drove back up from within his thoughts as Rosel and Az conversed, a smile crawling back across his face, and he hoped his excursion into his own thoughts hadn't broadcast themselves to the group. He assumed not, given that they were still speaking, still something of dancing, when he glanced between them.

He turned his smiling, fragmented gaze back upon Ruria, then, and said, “I suppose I do fit in with the season! You're right, of course, there's no denying my looks, only concealing, and you see right through me, Dear Miss Ruria.” Salem gave a sly wink with the overtly-polite title.

But then Ruria stepped up to Rosel, both of them taking poses that Salem thought to be some kind of waltz, and the one-eyed witchie decided he could watch no more. He wouldn't stand witness to one of his own kind degrading herself in such a manner, by... DANCING with humans. He shrank from the thought, and balked internally at even the image. None of it showed on his face, of course, for he wished to remain civil with Miss Rosel.

“Hmmm,” Salem hummed, crossing his arms that he might drum his fingers along his biceps. “I do believe that it's time for me to take my leave from this fine company, though it pains me to say it, so it does.” His attention even now had begun to wander with the promise of eventually leaving to tantalize it. He gazed out into the crowd, and his voice rose and fell as he struggled to finish his sentence. “Hopefully, I shall see you three lovelies on the day of the ball, for wouldn't you know it, old Salem's going to be there, of course you would! I bid you the fondest of farewells,” he finished, and, with a bow, he wheeled a sharp turn upon his heels and walked away without waiting for a response, humming a strange tune to himself.

Location: Lumena Town Square, a Cafe

As Salem pressed his way through the crowd, he came upon a small cluster of people huddled around a limp form. He moved in closer, for a moment, and recognized the prone shape to be Young Master Theo, unconscious amid the gaping onlookers. Salem threw back his head and laughed at the spectacle, for he'd never taken the boy for the frail, fainting type, but apparently he had been wrong. He began to step in closer, intending to kick the pathetic majin awake, when he was stopped mid-step. A familiar sound floated out to him, a simple sweetness that lingered on the breeze. Orpheus' tin pipe.

Theo could wait.

Turning to face the music, Salem reckoned the sound was emanating from an unassuming cafe that faced out to the rest of the Square. It seemed to be relatively clear, and Salem once again began pushing his way through the crowd, now with slightly less care than before. He bumped a few shoulders, and one vile woman had the nerve to swear at him. Any other day, he would have turned and given her a brilliant retort, but he'd reached the door, and sure enough, just within sat Orpheus.

“You, my friend,” Salem said, pointing with a gloved, pointed finger, “Are an absolute nuisance to find, so you are.” Giggling, then, Salem glanced around and nodded at those who sat around him, first a man he could only assume to be Philemon, then another witch-eater he didn't know, but recognized from the night before, and finally...

“Why, Young Master Rajih! What a surprise!”
