Just Before An Eclipse

(( Welcome back, Eclipse~! XD I kinda lost track of this class... so, what's happening in here, and how're ya? ))

((I'm slowly doing better. I start classes tomorrow, which is why I'm back at a friend's house. So I have access to the internet and whatnot. I'm still crazy tired, and my arm tends to act up, and my dog's sick, but overall personally I'm fine. What about you?

As for the class, since you've done your wand assignment you are fine for today. Tomorrow I'm going to set up lesson plans for everyone. I plan since there are quite a number of newcomers to review over the two lessons I did previously, so everyone can catch up. (For the first years, as a warning, that means you'll still have to practice Wingardium Leviosa after class and write down five instances which the spell could have been used in history. Since I figure some of you might be reading this. Third and Fourth Years will simply have to practice Point Me.) Since you are preparing for your NEWTs, as are Vladimir and Livi, I plan to work with you individually. We'll begin by reading over the Standard Book of Spells and making a list of spells you might have a problem with or haven't learned. For Liviana, I'll have her do the same, but with only 1-5. After we're done refreshing the trouble ones for you, if you want to make the list now, which you definitely don't have to, I'll start teaching you advanced Charms.

I really do hope that's clear for everyone. It's really early where I am, so I might not make complete sense.))

Cerise nodded brusquely, but added a reassuring note, "You have plenty of time to make up your project." As if that would completely quell his worries, so she did not need to concern herself over him further, her attention shifted back to the pile of papers on her desk, where she took a seat. Shuffling through them silently, she found the parchment she'd been working on, and began to write while the class continued.

Harmony Trumarie...

Harmony sauntered into the Charms classroom, and dropped her school bag at an empty desk, before the school bell chimed. She pulled out a scroll (her wand assignment), and walked over to the professor and her cat. The brunette refused to let her movements be sluggishly despite only two hours of sleep, so her stride was forcibly quick and steady. Dark bags were under the girl's large grey doe eyes, and they made the pale Slytherin seem a bit sick. "My assignment, Madame..." Harmony said in a polite tone, dropping her scroll gingerly on her desk and nodding her head in greeting. The girl was careful to pronounce the word 'Madame' like any other English woman would, so not to betray her own French roots. 'Thank Merlin I have a Welsh last name now...' Harmony turned around and walked back to her seat. Instant comfort was felt as she sat down. She idly waited for the lesson begin. 'I wonder if my score count will garner any points...' The brunette wondered, looking at her ink stained hands with a small frown.

Liviana scurried into the classroom, wondering how the classroom climate would be now that their Charms teacher was back. Perhaps this long absence would change the professor's strict attitude?

Settling into her seat, Liviana kept stealing glances at the door, knowing it was not too late to avoid this class altogether. The last time she had been here, many things went wrong in class. She could only speculate if there would be any change.

Melody Laurentia Hillyard

Melody entered the class quietly and took the nearest seat as she waited for further instructions. Being new to hogwarts, she had got lost finding her way to the classroom. Since she's already late, she doesn't want any attention to be on her.

Drago walked in and slowly walked to an empty desk at the back of the class. He sat down and started fiddling with a dragon tooth charm around his neck.

Blaine walked into the classroom quietly and sat in her usual seat in the back of the room as she waited for instruction. She usually was the only person who sat in the back but today there was a new person who was fiddling with a dragon charm necklace. While she was glad someone had joined her in the back, she found it slightly annoying. She liked having the back to herself. Ah, well, she thought to herself. You can't have everything you want.

((Welcome to my class Melody and Drago. I apologize for the delay. Can you put your house and year somewhere in your posts please?))

As the students filed in, each looking more displeased than the last, Cerise watched them with hawk-like eyes, her manicured nails tapping gently on the desk. Excellent. The class seemed to finally understand the process of silence. Taking a quill, she read over Standing gracefully, she walked around her desk, a barely discernible smile crossed her lips. "Welcome to Charms." Her eyes flicked between the two new students. "I am Professor Benoit, your names, my dears?" Though her voice was almost sweet, her tight face showed no compassion or any emotion at all. Her countenance was beautiful, like a porcelain doll's, her body desirable, but time still shone in those grey eyes, rough time.

As she waited for their response, she addressed all who had not been to her class before, "We will go over a quick review. As I learned from last time, questioning you these basic answers would be counterproductive. Therefore I ask you to copy this," with a flick of her wand words appeared on her board.

board
Charm: is a type of enchantment that causes an object to behave in a way that is not otherwise normal for that object
Bewitched: A charm that lasts over time
Necessities in Spellwork: Wand, Wand Movement, Concentration and Pronunciation
We will go over a spell in pieces for optimal understanding. First you will learn the history of the spell. Where it came from? What do the words mean? Who used the spell? When?

Next, together we will practice the proper pronunciation. As a group we will repeat until everyone understands.

Lastly we will practice the proper wand movement. Each charm has a specific wand movement. Though charms can be cast without the proper movement, it is quite a great deal more difficult, and not good for learning a spell.

Cerise nodded to them. "Worry not, afterward you shall start your spell learning. Now, first and second years." She glanced around at the scattered children. "I want each of you to perform the Hover Charm once before me, then we will begin with a new spell. The same for the third and fourth years." Turning towards Liviana and Meiko, she smiled, handing them each a copy of the Standard Book of Spells 1-6. "Look through the Charms in there, and tell me what you don't know. We don't have long until your NEWTs."

Amelia Frances Joan

User ImageAmelia had entered the class calmly. She was starting to feel the stress of her workload between classes but was determined to take each one at the time. Once Professor Benoit stopped speaking she automatically stood up, assuming everyone else was doing the same. Walking over to her desk, she swished and flicked her wand while chanting, "Wingardium Leviosa!" with surprising alacrity. Without the tension in the class, she found the power fill her wand easily, as the feather lifted off the desk, rising calmly to the ceiling then settling back down. Watching the professor make a note on the parchment before her, she was dismissed with a nod and returned to her seat.

First Year Ravenclaw

Professor Benoit nodded, marking down her success. It had surprised her, having seen the girl's trouble before, though she had a reputation for her skill. Taking a seat behind her desk, she spoke. "First years? Once you complete your spell, please work on the homework previously assigned: Write five instances the Hover Charm was used in the distant past. Thank you." She motioned the next student forward and waited for his result.

Liviana cautiously took the heavy spell book from the professor's hands as if it were likely the tome would be thrown at her if she did not take this opportunity.

Pulling out a spare piece of parchment, her favorite quill, and ink, she painstakingly copied the blackboard. Liviana observed that the method prescribed by the teacher would most likely be the way classes were to be taught: the breakdown of the charm, its name, and the correct wand movement.

Thumbing through the borrowed text, Liviana found several spell she appeared to have missed in her six years at school. 'Probably some while I was away at my parents',' she thought darkly.

In the corner of her notes, the young Ravenclaw penned:

Quote:
Scourgify
Dissendium
Deletrius
Muffliato

When she was finished, Liviana folded her hands neatly on her desk and waited for a lull in the classroom activities to hand in her list of unknown spells.

Blaine walked forward after a moment. It seemed none of the other first years wanted to face the teacher. She mentally shrugged as she stopped walking and raised her arm. "Wingardium Leviosa!" The feather twitched for a moment, then went still. Blaine frowned. You will work! she thought to herself, then tried the spell again. "Wingardium Leviosa!" The feather slowly floated upward, then back down to the desk as Blaine directed it. She saw the professor mark something on her parchment as Blaine started to turn. At least it didn't catch on fire or explode, she thought.

Harmony Trumarie...

Harmony banished the displeasure about performing first year work away from her mind and calm demeanor. This assignment would be a breeze, the Slytherin gladly would take an easy O. "Wingardium Leviosa," she murmured in a slothful tone, making the necessary squish and flick motion with graceful movements. The feather flitted upwards in small arch, then circles, before falling down to its desk. The brunette tried again, this time without words. 'Wingarduim Leviosa,' she thought, trying to perform the spell non-verbally. The feather twitched and jumped an inch. Harmony put her head down on the desk and fought off a sudden aching headache.

Melody Laurentia Hillyard

After looking at how the others did, Melody walked over to her desk. With a wand in her hand, she tried to concentrate and raised the wand. Swishing and flickering her wand smoothly while saying it in a clear slow tone, " Wingarduim Leviosa!" The feather managed to float for a few seconds before it fell back to the desk." At least i managed to let it float for awhile. It's better than nothing. Maybe i should try again, " she thought to herself. "Wingarduim Leviosa! " This time with a clearer tone and more concentration, the feather floated with the smooth flicker and swishing of her wand. Melody lowered her wand and the feather slowly fell back to the desk. She could see that this time, she was more successful in the spell.

Meiko skipped in the room, and went over to the professor's table. "I apologize for coming late, ma'am. Can you tell me what our activities are for today?" she asked politely.

((Oh god! *tight pity hugs* I couldn't imagine. I mean, I have online classes, but to really start school so early? Sorry for the confusion Harmony and Melody. I tried to say four things at once, and apparently not all of it was clear. Also, Melody, can you put your thoughts in either single quotation marks or italics? Placing them between double quotation marks makes it difficult to tell that you are simply thinking. Unless it was aloud?))

Marking down Blaine's spell, she frowned, thinking the exact thing her student was: At least it didn't catch on fire. Still she decided Blaine needed more time to practice that spell, and would have her review with the new students.

At Melody's approach her frown deepened. Ignoring her attempt at casting, she questioned, "Are you finished copying your lines?" She was greatly surprised at her success, but not the weakness of the spell. By the look of it, her wand was overly springy, easy for starting spells, but difficult to create sturdy ones. "Five points from Gryffindor." she announced, "for failing to follow directions." It would have been more, if not for her success. "Next time you will wait until we go over the spell as a class." She pointed to the board's display. "Take your seat."

Cerise blinked at Harmony, but watched her in silence none the less. A smile crossed her face, erasing the frown that had appeared. "Very good Harmony. Silent spells are a display of true strength. Do you think you can do the same with the Four Point Spell that I want the you and the other third and fourth years to attempt once more?" There was a touch of mockery, as she had done the wrong spell, but it was greatly lessened by her silent accomplishment.

Cerise was certain this day could not be crumbling faster. Hogwarts seemed to work hard to challenge her sanity. In came her little wanderer, not even remotely rueful. She was skipping for goodness sake! "Five points from Ravenclaw for your tardiness. Take this book and write down which spells you do not feel comfortable with." With that, her attention towards her wanderer and towards the next student coming up to perform the spells."
