Prince Zuko, now at the mercy of Azula's guards had been thrown in jail and restrained before a few of the guards had thought it would be a shame if they left without roughing him up a little. By the time they were finished and left to guard the door, Zuko was gasping for air on the ground because of being winded by a blow to the diaphragm.

The just recently made ex-firelord panted as he sat himself up against the wall. Everything was flooding his mind right now. Everything he had worked so hard to build since his coronation had been undone. What would happen to the people of other Nations that had come in peace? What would happen to all those who had been loyal and accepting of him? What about his uncle Iroh and Kallan? And what in the world would Azula do with Mai once she found out she was staying in the palace?

More questions without answers poured unceasingly unto his head and he couldn't stop them. His heart was pounding and he gave no second thought to himself. In his mind he was lucky to be alive after what Azula had just pulled. Zuko, in his own mind, had a horrible feeling that he was going to die without being able to do anything about it. He didn't even know what Azula would do with their father. If she did let him out of prison then things could really get crazy, but he just tried to stop thinking altogether so his troubling thoughts would cease.

Zuko focused on what hurt physically to get him to try to think straight again. Nothing seemed broken, at least not upon first inspection. Both hands were in industrial handcuffs behind his back, and his leg was chained to the wall. Azula must've really not wanted him to escape, and why wouldn't she? She had just taken over the entire Fire Nation with a small controlled event.

Thoughts once again took hold of his mind and brought him back to the topic of Mai. He might never see her again.

He might never see her again.

As his heart sank in his chest, it overpowered any physical pain that he felt at the moment. Azula had imprisoned Mai before, but what would happen now? Azula might kill her. Dread gripped his senses more than ever before and he knew he had to get out of here. He couldn't just die and let everything he loved and hoped for be destroyed.

Grimacing as he slowly got to his feet, he discovered one of his ribs had definately been broken by his earlier beating. he grit his teeth and leaned back on the wall a moment as he dealt with the pain. The Prince panted once again as he looked to the door. He closed his eyes and focused his bending to the tips of his fingers. If he got the air around the tip of them hot enough he might be able to cut through his restraints.

User ImageThe Cabbage Merchant had been peacefully selling his cabbages during most of the evening's festivities. Peace between the nations had meant he could go to more places and make more money! He had been very excited about this venture, though also worried that perhaps the Avatar would be at this festival and ruin his precious cabbages once again! The Avatar had never done anything good for him. Only destruction followed in that young boy's wake and coming to the Fire Nation the first day of the festival seemed like a good chance to sell most of his stock before he might've to run into that horrible bender once again.

However, the Avatar was not at the festival, and as the ground shook violently, the merchant became sheepish. He had not yet heard what had just gone on with the power shifting from Zuko to his crazed sister, and he feared that only his business would be in danger by some careless earth bender. He started to wheel his cart far away from where he had felt the rumble of the ground as fast as he could.

One of the shingles that the sandbender had shot into the ground had fractured into tiny pieces. One of those pieces of shrapnel travelled up into the air and away from the initial impact. It flew fast and true, and came down hard on one of the wheels of the Merchant's cart (still half full of his precious merchandise) as it was travelling down a hill to a lower part of the capital city. This impact cracked the wheel and as it made a second rotation it broke off completely, causing the merchant to loose grip on the cart, which sent the cart more off balance. The cart went out of control, dropping cabbages as it swerved heavily to the right before the imbalance simply sent the cart off roling sideways down the hill.

The scene of flying cabbages, running citizens, and the sound of the surprised shrieks were more than the poor merchant could bare. He sat down on teh ground where he was as he watched his livelyhood roll down the hill to the lower city. He sighed, set his head on his lap and wept.

Azula felt a rush of triumph as she watched Zuko being dragged away by the guards. It made her immensely happy to see that the guards weren't being very gentle with him.

As nobles began to congratulate her on exposing her brother's treachery, she marveled at how stupid they really were. All it had taken was a few moments of impassioned speech and a little sobbing, and they had turned on her brother just like that. She made a note of who spoke the loudest and who was the most complimentary. They would be the ones to trust the least during her own rule. Perhaps she would play games with them and pit them against one another. That would be very amusing.

She happened to glance up at the sky as she laughed at some vapid joke of another noble and saw a barrage of something hurtling towards her. Her reflexes, faster and more focused thanks to the pill General Vahm had given her, took over and she unleashed a swathe of blue flames. She remained relatively unscathed, but the rest of the projectiles hit the dais, injuring many of the nobles and the guards. Without waiting, she blasted jets of fire down as she leaped up, giving herself a boost onto the roof. She seethed with anger at not being able to find her attacker, knowing he must be one of her brother's spies. It would be just like Zuzu to hire Earthbenders. For a moment, she wished for the Dai Li, but then dismissed that idea as foolish. They would simply betray her, as they had betrayed their previous master.

She leapt down to the ground and snapped, "General Vahm, I want your troops to scour the area for any benders that don't belong to us. Take everyone prisoner and have them tortured until they cough up any information about spies." He bowed obsequiously and began barking orders, giving her a sly smirk. She knew what he was thinking. He thought she was coming to rely on him. Azula planned to let him to continue thinking that until it no longer suited her.

Many of the nobles were groaning. Some were unconscious from being hit in the head. Others were asking for medical attention. She ignored them all, simply stepping over prostrate bodies.

"I'm going to interrogate my brother personally." A delicious shiver of pleasure ran up her spine as she thought of how she'd make her traitorous little brother suffer.

Jezabel Star
Earth Nations Fire Bender

When Kallan handed her off to Bumi Jezabel smiled and sighed. Then under her breath she muttered "You cabbage head, why did you leave me alone, I nearly got thrown in jail, you know I'm scared of fire." She shot him a nasty look as they went to find the cow-pig, however a little more then half way there she heard the voice of the General and Bumi's face dropped, the first time since she met him, The King was not smiling, instead he looked very worried. He watched as the orders were given and his frown increased however once a fire bender approached him his insane smile returned.

"You have to hide, you have to help Zuko." He said softly to Jezabel as he pointed to the person being dragged away. Jezabel was reluctant to go but orders were orders. She slipped in to the shadows and moved quickly away as she watched Guards swarm King Bumi. She forced the tears away from her eyes as Bumi kept himself from being burnt. She had snuck inside the castle through one of the windows and she pulled out her fans. the Chaos made it easy for her to hide she slipped through the crowd and started running silently. She needed to find some one who knew the Palace at that moment she heard footsteps and saw a servant heading her way. She moved quickly grabbing the Servants arm and twisting it, her voice came out in a hiss.

"Where would Azula take the fire lord?" She asked darkly, the servant looked up at her scared. Her normally kind eyes were dark with anger and annoyance. As her hand tightened its grip nearly pulling the mans arm out of his socket.

"I don't know, I'm only a cook" He started to stutter and she hissed again. When she hissed the man looked at her "I can take you to the Advisor's Office." He said as he looked at her, the mention of Kallan seemed to ease the anger in her eyes. She nodded and while still holding the servant had him guide her to Kallan's Office. Once there she let the man go.

"Go to the earth nation, tell them what happened here, tell the guards that Jezabel Star sent you, and to issue pact 23." She said as she let him go. Pact 23 was what gave her family the ability to hide in the earth nation, Bumi told her so. She heard voices in the Office and pulled out her Fans ready to attack anyone in the room, however a set of guards turned the corner. not paying attention.

"Her office is here, I bet this is where the Traitors b***h is." One guard said, losing all respect for the Adviser. However the second guard did not get a chance to respond, due to a head injury which knocked him on the ground in a clatter. There were only a few things that made Jezebel lose her temper, and calling a nice lady a b***h was one of them. the first guard attacked her with fire and she barley managed to doge it, her right shoulder caught fire but she was in fighting mode so she was able to ignore it. With in a minute or two the first guard went flying through the door to the Advisers room and the Kyoshi warrior followed ready to attack the next person she saw. Both Fans out and ready the clothing on her shoulder was still burning a bit.

As soon as Kallan turned to go, General Iroh waved her to be silent. Freezing, she heard the voices of guards outside the door. Iroh tensed and moved towards the door when all of a sudden, there was the sound of a struggle outside. Then the door crashed open and a guard flew in. Jezabel stepped in, fans out, shoulder smoking, and a deadly expression on her face. Kallan couldn't believe this was the same frightened young woman from before. She looked like a warrior.

Iroh held out his hands and said, "Are you coming to help rescue my nephew as well?

"If your Nephew is the Firelord Zuko then yes." She spoke as she dragged the other unconscious guard in to the room. She motioned for every one to be quite as a few guards ran past the room. "King Bumi say's he is the only chance to make peace." Her voice was soft and steady she seemed unaware that her shoulder was smoking. How ever in the back of her mind she was freaking out so much so that she was unable to mive. She was Glade that she was in a battle situation where her Kyoshi training took over.

((No worries. Basically, Azula came back and convinced everybody that Zuko cheated at the end of the Fire Book. He is now in jail and Kallan and Jezabel are going to get him out. Shoji attacked Azula, and she's mad about that, so intends to go down and torture Zuko for it.))

"Then let's go. I know how to find out where he is." Kallan started off out of her office and down the corridor, but General Iroh grabbed her shoulder.

"No. We must use a less visible route. General Vahm has given orders to have you captured and brought to him alive. Bluffing your way past soldiers and guards will not work." He moved to the wall and walked along it for a short distance, fingers brushing it gently. Then he smiled and placed his palm against the wall. There was a flash of fire and a panel just tall enough to admit a medium-sized person slid open. He gestured for the women to get in.

Kallan remembered the secret passages from her memory of the palace schematics, but had never been able to figure out how to open them. Now she knew. That meant the passages were only intended for firebenders to use. As they trotted along in the narrow passageway, she privately wished she could see the mechanism that made it work. If she knew how it worked with firebending, she thought she might be able to adapt her waterbending to it. But it would have to wait when their lives weren't in mortal danger from a mentally unstable royal princess.

General Iroh was in the lead, choosing the correct passages to take. Sometimes, he would motion for the women to stop and step out into the adjacent hall in order to check the soldier's progress. It seemed that for now, he was pretending to be on General Vahm's side. He was never gone for very long and always entered the passage again farther ahead, signaling them with a small flame in his hand.

Finally, they exited the secret passages into a heavy stone hallway lit by a few torches every so often. The air here was chilly. Kallan realized they were near the coolers where firebending prisoners were kept. Iroh was already ahead of them, checking inside the coolers. He sighed sadly.

"He is not here."

Kallan's heart sank for a moment, but she steeled herself. "Then let's check the other cells. Maybe they put him somewhere else." She refused to give up hope after such a brief search.

There was a noise behind them and she spun, knives in hand. She realized it was the sound of metal hitting the stones. Kallan advanced warily, hoping it wasn't the sound of armored boots on the floor. She kept going when she heard it again, to her right. She looked and saw Zuko struggling with manacles attached to the wall. The sound had been manacles hitting the wall they were attached to.

"Zuko!" Her voice was filled with relief and joy to see him relatively unscathed. A bruise was forming on his forehead and she saw a few small cuts on his face, but otherwise, he looked pretty pissed and ready to get out.

Jezebel followed Iroh and Kallan, her fans out ready for an attack. She moved so quietly it would seem like she was not there. She kept a small distance from Kallan. She kept absolutely silent even her breathing seemed to have stopped. She slipped out behind Kallan and kept her self facing the direction they came from. Her fans glowing red and orange in the light.

She looked in the coolers forcing her self not to think about the cold. She heard the sound and snapped around the fans ready to strike at the source of the sound. When she heard who it was she let out a small sigh of relief. then there was the sound of two guards coming down the hallway talking.

"I thought I heard something." One of the guards said, as they approached the cell. there was a bit of arguing and finally the second agreed to check out the cell. The earth nation girl bit her lip, and glanced at Zuko Kallan and Iroh. She knew she had to do something, a plan formed in her head, if she could distract the guards long enough for Kallan and Iroh to get Zuko out, then there would be a chance.

"I'll keep them busy free Zuko and get out of here, head to the Earth Nation, they will give you sanctuary. If you get questioned tell them Bumi said so." Her voice was soft and calm, it sounded like some one who knew something bad was going to happen.

(( he had been trying to cut through them with bending, and his hand cuffs were behind his back and not attached to the wall... but I can work with this a bit. ))

User Image

Zuko had managed to cut through one loop of his chain-linked cuffs and had proceeded to try and brake it completely by pulling it. This method, however, was not at all effective since the chains were strong iron. The Prince then proceeded to try to used what force he could to get the chain wrapped around one of the manacles behind his back so the weak link was exposed. He'd tried for a little while to be subtle while he pushed back on the link, but that just wasn't enough and he soon got frustrated with that method. He used used his arms to bang back against the wall, even though it strained his broken rib and his otherwise bruised and sore body.

The young frustrated firebender stopped when he heard a familiar voice and looked over at Kallan as she came into sight. He walked over to the bars and was honestly glad to see her and his Uncle Iroh. He was about to ask how they had gotten there and if they could get him out of his restraints, but he heard the guard's voices before he could summon up his voice.

Scowling at the door where the voices were coming from, he said, "I can deal with these cuffs, but someone has to cut these chains. I can't create enough heat to make a clean cut if I can't see where I'm cutting." He turned around to show them that he'd managed to get the chain almost able to get the other chain link off, but he did need assistance. If they were going to escape they needed to remove the one chain grounding his foot to the wall and the chains that connected his handcuffs.

((Late post... *cries in corner*))

Kaito scrambled out of the stone transport at the fuzzy sound of commotion above ground. Excitement filled the air as he semi-anxiously awaited checking out the festival. He'd never been one to be interested in holidays and festivities before. He still had his uncertainty, but at worst, it couldn't hurt to enjoy his time away from the North.

"I'm sorry sir." A fire nation guard said, holding out an arm to block the sealed door. "We cannot let you out this way."

"I don't know why you were sent here, but you two are to be sent back immediately." An earth kingdom guard continued.

Tchh... Incompetent authority? Kaito held up his scroll. "I have orders from King Bumi himself requesting my presence here." he stated bluntly.

"But we have word that-..." The guard tried to warn.

"I'm going out there, and if you try and stop me, you'll be seeing the king soon." And with that, Kaito paced himself towards the heavy granite blast-shield door, holding Tally's hand and bringing her along. The earth guard had no idea what else to do, so he opened the door a bit to let the two out. Kaito had his eyes on the guards the whole time until the blast-doors were shut, and by the time he looked around at the disorderly chaos all around, it was too late to turn back.

(( I usually don't complain to a large degree but you kind of just made Kiva's post irrelevant and the action that she put in there stop dead... Personally in my head I thought that the two guards [who agreed to come in together, and were outside the door pretty much directly across from Zuko's cell] turned into one guard that would randomly miss seeing them and only get the corridor... this is what I imagined when the prison is described in the last posts:

--------------------------------------------------___--------
O--O--O--O--|____|____|____|____|. . . . . . .|
J. . . . . . . . . ____.____.___.____._____. . .|
O--O--O--O--|. . . .|. . . .|. . . .|. . . .|. .Z. .| . . |
---------------------------------------------------------------|

So "O" are cooling cells and the weird "|_____|" things are actual jail type cells with stone walls and such. So you guys entered from "J" and "Z" is Zuko, and the guards are right outside that crazy "--___--" door... don't you think they would've pretty much came in when Iroh had finished taking off Zuzu's restraints and spend an insane amount of time on the actual bars of the cell? Why not just cut the lock off? Seems a whole lot simpler and less time consuming.

I don't know, I was just really confused. Forgive my complaining and strange diagram, but my imagination is cool like that and won't let me off without venting my insanity.

P.S: the diagram works better if you see it when quoted. ))

(*pats Kaito's head*)
User ImageThere was nothing to do on the trip so Tally kept fighting with her self over what she would do in the fire nation capitol. She wanted to stretch her arm out and feel the fast moving ground, knowing what it would do she resisted relieved when they finally stopped and entered out into the fire nation. Watching the Chaos surround them she grew curious, "Is it always this crowded?" Nothing struck her as odd, people were busy, talking nonsense and walking back and forth. The small town that was her home was very different.

(I don't really want to say more because I don't know where they are...)
