Feeling that last straw of patience snap, she stood, walking over and snatching the bag back from his hold. "You're right, my dumb mistake." Nariko said not in anger, but the chill of ice in her tone was enough. "Thank you again." It took every ounce of energy she had not to make her lips curl into a sneer, but she managed not to and after slinging it over her back she turned back onto the trail to head back through the pass. So much for seafood, but at least she'd not die from it.

It was enough that the loneliness she'd begin to feel without her mother near was slowly etching at her sanity; but she didn't want to have to feel like s**t around Dutch on top of that. However, her conversation with her father rang in her mind once more; and before she got far she stopped and looked over her shoulder. "And...sorry. About your wife's passing, I wasn't aware." She called back, before continuing on her way back to the pass. At least now if she never saw that scowling irritable man again she wouldn't have any regrets.

It was all that really counted, anyways.

"Your welcome" he replied sarcastically, turning back to the ocean seeing the glow had vanished. Lord knows where, but at least he didn't have to look at it anymore.

But he could have sworn that lightning had struck him at her comment as his eyes widened and mouth dropped inside his helmet. Baffled beyond reckoning he turned back around once more to see her bobbing head disappear behind the the small hill. How did she know?!

He wanted to go after her, but just couldn't manage to get himself off the cliff face. He turned back around and took his helmet off, setting it gently to his side and resting his elbows on his legs, bringing his forehead down to rest on his paws. It wasn't easy for him to remember something he had lost, but it only reminded him that he was surely alone.

Once out of range, the vixen had paused in her step to think for a few moments; turning back to look down the trail she had just come from. Unable to help herself she had quickly scaled higher up the mountain till she could see Dutch easily but was far enough that she hoped she would go undetected. She noted his posture which looked like he had a lot on his mind, feeling her ears droop. He must have loved her a lot... Nariko thought absently, curious if it was similar to the one her parents shared; far from admitting she was jealous but there was little she could do.

It was about a hour later when she finally took her leave, at least assured that the creature wouldn't come to attack once she had left initially.

-----------------------Two weeks later.

As much as she hated the fact that she was making the journey to the shop; Nariko had found she'd gone through all the literature in the house. Other than training, she had found herself mind numbingly bored; and the fact that aside from her mother and her no one seemed to like to read.

Exiting the shop she had decided to take the day off for just that purpose, books in her small carrying bag along with a few other things she needed in the late afternoon. The trail wasn't long for her, but wearing her kimono once again while her under suit was drying and her armor polished; she wasn't quite keen on running.

In two weeks time, Dutch had all but given up on trying to find his team. He saw for himself that had they gone to the Eastern shore, then they surely would have been dispatched...assuming that was they even made planet fall. Instead he sought out a place he could call home. Avoiding the shop and the place where he soon found he was supposed to be out, he found a safe dug out which after going through a long winding tunnel, turned out be a hollowed out one room cave. There he had fashioned it into a semi comfortable living space

But on this day, he was laying once again on top of a meadow's rolling hills. A bit closer to home this time, he still just felt as useless as he had 2 weeks ago when he was crudely reminded of the passing of his wife. Today was no different from any other day. He lay in the sleek black suit which normally separated him from his armor and stared mindlessly into the vast sky.

Setting on the trail once again, Nariko kept her pace brisk as her paws crunched against the soil. It was weird to not have the boots protecting her paws but at the same time she wanted to get used to not having them just in case. It was always good to be conditioned in all types of different situations; just another task added to her list.

Mentally dwelling on the information she had gathered as of late to this spartan compound she had heard so much about; she was unaware of the other armor cladded individual which had taken to the same path; stumbling along.

"Hey little thing..." The deep voice reached her ears, immediately drawing a scowl as she turned around to see the poor excuse of a spartan. She could tell immediately he was no original, his height although taller than she was nothing like her father.

"Piss off." Nariko hissed, even from here she could smell the alcohol seeping off him. "I'm sure you can find some desperate vixen to woo with your status." Sneering, she turned harshly and continued on. She would never have respect for someone like him who wasted such potential to nothing but an idiot drunk; what was it, four in the afternoon anyways? This however didn't seem to please the spartan decendant, who quickly followed and grabbed her around her waist to pull her close. "Don't be such a b***h, you should respect this armor!" He slurred, but seemed not to be as intoxicated as she figured to have that tight of grip.

"GET OFF YOU LOWLY PIECE OF GARBAGE!" Nariko roared a scream like only she could muster, ripping out of his grasp to throw one hellavuh punch at his jaw. Seething in rage, she moved to leave; but looked back when the creep decided to pull his knife.

"You're going to regret that..." He snarled, only to have the vixen bristle her tail. "Buddy, you really....really don't want to do that."

Sighing to himself, he looked over to the sun and and judged it was almost early evening. That was when he always went to find his meal for the night. So begrudgingly having wasted another day, he picked himself up and sauntered hack to the treeline.

He reached the path that lead to his home and started to leisurely stroll along, wishing he had pockets to shove his paws in. It wasn't until the roar of a yell caught his ears that his stroll didn't become so leisurely. Although this time having recognized the voice, he could already tell it was Nariko. what had she gotten herself into this time?

He slinked over to where he suspected the screaming roar came from and just in time as he saw he was behind some Spartan, who lo and behold had just whipped a knife out. At that point, he didn't care if it was Nariko or a UNSC five star general, he only saw a Spartan, miss using his power of all things.

Letting out a raged roar himself, he flying tackled the drunk Spartan and quickly kicked that pesky knife away, soon getting into yet another battle of size and strength

Of all days to not have my armor The vixen sighed as she tightened her grip on the handle of the bag, ready to bluntly beat this fellow senseless if she had to. As she could see him trying to formulate as his eyes flickered from her face to her side where she assumed he was going to strike; she readied herself to try and kick some idiot a** in a kimono of all things....when lo an behold...

Are....you kidding me? She thought as her eyes flickered past the spartan to see Dutch; did he seriously have a homing beakon on her? About to open her mouth, she caught him looking to the knife when something seemed to snap and he leapt at the drunk; slamming him to the ground while the knife flashed quickly as it was kicked away.

What was he doing! Feeling her teeth grit, she knew she shouldn't have been angry at him for taking on the inevitable fight for her. Yet it was things like this that was making it harder and harder to keep him off her mind.

However the spartan on the other hand seemed unamused. "What the hrrrell!" He slurred and tried to throw sloppy punches to Dutch, putting more of a fight than Nariko had been expecting at least. "Get your stupid Marine boyfriend off me or i'll kill him!" He snarled, trying to throw Dutch off while not losing the contents of his stomach from the wrenching motions of the fight.

He glared down the drunk as he dodged many of the punches thrown at him, and blocking those where meant to hit home with a well placed arm. He was fortunate to have grabbed back on to the Spartan and basically rode him bare back.

Practically seething and foaming from the mouth, he wrapped his arms around the Spartan's neck and pulled back, choking the stumbling drunk.

"I Ain't no Marine!" he growled, pulling one arm away from the larger's throat and pummeling the side of the Spartan's face with a fist. "I'm an ODST, b***h!" he snarled, obviously trying to either be the better man in a fight, or scarring the s**t out of the drunken warrior. Either was fine by him.

He didn't know how long it would take to either beat the guy's brains out or choke him out, but one thing was certain....this Spartan would regret being drunk

Trying to stifle her laugh the vixen knew immediately he was as simple minded as he was a poor excuse for a spartan. She was positive that he had just signed his death warrant for Dutch, and was proven right moments later when she could have sworn he contracted rabies in that moment. As much as she wanted to jump in and bash her books into his face she knew this had become his fight, and she had no place. (Nor wanting to risk said treatment turning on her for that fact)

The spartan quickly began to sober, or nearly pass out from the cutting of his oxygen deprived lungs as the arm could have snapped his next but he struggled. The weight of the other was pinning him down, yet desperately he decided to try and land a few wrenching jabs with his elbow into the side of the other's armor. With his free arm he tried to pull that arm enclosing his throat away with all his might, that was, until the shots to his face brought a verbal assault of profanities out of his mouth.

Smirking lightly, Nariko bent down and looked at the poor excuse with an almost sadistic grin. "You going to be playing around for much longer, or you just going to put him out of his miserable existence hmmm?" She directed to Dutch with a chuckle.

Still landing punch after punch, he halted only for a moment to grab his side from an elbow being broadsided into his unprotected body. It hurt like hell, but it only fueled the fire more as he tightened his grip around the spartan's neck and continued his onslaught of bone breaking punches.

Even as Nariko smirked and commented, he could only shoot a glare at her. He stopped at that point to see the Spartan's face couldn't break any further, so Dutch just jerked back and let the beast fall, jumping off before he was squished.

Wiping the blood off of his broken knuckles, he sneered at the Spartan, making sure to give a hard kick to his side and step on the fallen's groin, walking away towards Nariko for an unknown reason.

"That's for the ODST's killed by spartans!" he called back to the drunken mess

Wincing as the blood poured from the Spartan's blue and black face, Nariko stood up having missed Dutch's glare. Surely he was going to need some medical assistance with the way he had such a fire behind each brutal punch. It was to a point she couldn't look away, only tearing her eyes up to him when he seemed to finish....and made sure he'd never have kits while he was at it.

"Jeeze..." She breathed, but seemed a little surprised when he turned and headed straight for her. What on earth could he have wanted?

However after his final call brought her some confusion on what he meant, her spacey look allowed her to catch some movements behind the crumpled soldier. Focusing her sight she noted it was another slightly stumbling moron; probably a companion of Casanova. Yet when he clued things in rather quickly and pulled out a pistol to aim it at the back of Dutch, Nariko once again felt the thoughts vanish from her head as she dropped the books to the ground.

Lurching forward she reached out and shoved Dutch away as hard as she could with a brazen "MOVE!" before the loud shot rang in her ears and a stinging warmth nestled into her side as she stumbled; sucking in a snarling breath as she snapped her eyes back to the other Spartan. Paws clutching her side she tried her best to not let it phase her despite her heart pumping loudly in her ears. "Gimme a break..." She sneered, looking up to the other Spartan who had a look of horror now that his drunk goggles had been raised.

He was planning to just walk around the vixen and leave her to her own problems, but as he was about to pass, he was shoved to the ground. He was going to snarl in protest, but after the thunder of the gun fire, and the snarl of the vixen. It didn't take a genius to figure what had happen, and just the gun alone was enough to keep that fire pumping.

"Now you try to kill more ODSTs? AND your own?" he snarled as he took off towards the new foe, keeping a trained eye on that trigger, hoping he could at least avoid being hit in a critical area if he watched carefully.

He took a baseball slide to the spartan as he got close enough, grabbing a hold of the giant's left leg and punching the back of his knee, before jumping back behind. He had forgotten how swift he was without the armor, and was sure it could be used to his advantage...even if the Spartan could still out run him

Slamming to the ground the spartan groaned at the impact of his knee ached with the punch it received, it seemed this one too was having a prior good day as he waved his paws and dropped the gun. "ODST? Dude look, I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I wasn't...thinking....you gotta know how it looks when you see your buddy down right?" He gasped out quickly, trying to do a backwards crawl away from the unarmored fellow...at least he recognized the under suit to be some form of military apparel.

"My dad's going to kill me.." He groaned, looking from Dutch to his friend before back again. "B-besides....she's alright....right?" He looked over to where Nariko had been standing; and blinked as she was no where to be seen. "Yeah see! She's gone....i'll....just collect my bud and.....head out...." He smiled sheepishly, quite obvious he was just a punk decked out in daddy's armor.

Having wasted no time herself, while Dutch had gone after the other she had grabbed her books and slipped out. She wanted nothing more to do with this outside world and its imbeciles, creeps and other lowlifes. It confirmed she was really better off away from this kind of action until something came up with actual soldiers, or finding that base. Further up the path she paused a moment to undo the ties of her kimono; opening it up to show her under suit beneath. Taking the sash from around her waist she tied it tightly around the wound to keep the bleeding minimal until she got home to tender it.

As much as she hated leaving the scene of a fight and leaving it for Dutch to take care of; she knew she'd be pretty useless as the burning was pretty intense, finding it hard to keep her pace from before and had slowed immensely. "Damn...this hurts more than I expected...." She breathed out, and knowing her luck; it wouldn't be the last she saw of the brute which was Dutch and could thank him later.

About ready to pull of more of his ODST trained killing moves, he widened his stance and was about to move, when he saw the alleged Spartan lay down his weapon and virtually grovel at his feet. Bout time I got the respect owed he thought momentarily to himself as he eased his pace. Even if the kid was lying, Dutch had already proved himself capable of beating the s**t out of someone without hesitation.

"Stupid kid. Pay attention to your buddy. He tried to kill that wo...." he was cut off as his ears fell and he looked back, seeing Nariko was in fact gone. He knew there wasn't a point in chasing after her since she had probably ditched pretty quick, but all the same, he still took off like a bullet to find her, leaving no chance for the other to attack him.

Even though he headed the wrong way, he was bent on finding her, until he reached the very meadow he came from. Sighing he decided it best to just leave her be and venture to his home. With it now being dark, finding food would have been a challenge, so he just went home hungry

----------------------Hours later

The woods were dark as she tried to navigate along the oh so familiar path; definitely worse for wear as she used the nearby trees for support. Wiping the sweat from her brow, she was clad in nothing but her torn under suit where she had ripped away the area around the wound before wrapping it back up in proper gauze. Even hours after, the area still burned as if her fur and skin burned in a blaze; feeling a little numbness under her flesh.

"Damnit..." She hissed, nearly falling from a pot hole in the path but managed to catch herself. Having made it home from the events of the afternoon she had tried to remove the bullet herself; but discovered all too late it was too deep nestled more into her back that she could reach alone. With her mother gone and most of the household inhabitants gone wherever they went....she hated to admit but there was only one other person aside from her brother that she would trust enough to help her....and he was much easier to find than her ninja blood brother.

Feeling dizzy and light headed from the walk and trying to get the bullet out herself which had probably made it a little worse with her hard headed reasoning she could do it herself.

Stumbling in her step to crash against a bush to make a racket in the otherwise quiet night, she pulled herself to a tree and looked around with a slightly heavy breath. "I swear....it was around here...." Nariko tried to reason she knew where she was, but she'd been so mentally distracted she wasn't quite sure.
