[ MEDARA y'TISAN ]

"Something like that," Medara replies, smiling and lying per usual. Maybe some Halflings are immune to some things; Medara certainly isn't to this strange singing...

Then she sees the fairies, clear as day, and no longer can deny it. To herself, in any case. And she never was denying anything to herself, so really, nothing changes. Except for the ugly fairies, of course, fairies which Medara now reaches into her things to retrieve her frying pan.

If they work against monkeys, why not fairi --

Her arm suddenly feels like she'd been swinging the pan for years rather than a few heated moments, and it drops with exhaustion but a few millimeters from the pan's handle. Her shoulder aches; her bones have turned to stone, lead -- something extraordinarily heavy and Medara feels his strength flag -- and seethes with inward anger at hisher now apparent helplessness.

[ CARLTON of DENASY ]

"What are these beasts!" Carlton cried, launching himself to his feet and reaching for his sword automatically. He was unsure of how safe it would be to wield the long blade in such close quarters, but the appearance of the fairies were troubling indeed (and quite ugly.)

He moved quickly as he could to Kira's side -- which was to say, not very quickly at all. Oh, he started off fast enough, but no more than one or two steps later he noticed each step he took was getting progressively slower.

A frown fixed itself upon his lips and furrowed his princely brow. Carefully, Carlton made the decision to draw his sword anyway - it could not harm, and so long as he was careful...

But soon as he drew the blade, his muscles failed. It dropped to the floor with a dull clatter, and Carlton found himself hard-pressed to stand properly.

[Kaiden Morgan]

The sudden appearance of devilish looking sprites more than enough to spur Kaiden to her feet, hand over the hilt of her rapier, except she didn't make it to her feet. The momentum of her rising was equal to the speed at which her knees found the floor and her hands followed soon after - if only to keep her face from hitting it.

A moan of surprise was nothing compared to the reaction to seeing a large female troll burst through the wall. She rolled (not of her own accord) away from the debris and under the table. It was a cover of sorts, one she was shortly thankful for, up until she saw a face akin to the one that the maiden had spoken a scream for.

It giggled at her and she glared, fighting for the will to shut it's fiendish mouth with her fist...

((resilience roll: success))

...and it connected with a satisfying crunch.

With renewed vigor she rolled out from under the table and stood, brandishing her rapier with an arc of steel, and heard it sing through the bodies of three careless fairies.

"Rally yourselves!" Caught in the heat of sudden excitement and adventure she couldn't help but cry out and share the fire that now burned in her limbs.

Jonathon watched from his back as Kaiden had seemed almost to not be phased at all by this sudden exhaustion that hit everyone else in the room. He would have witnessed it from his previous knelt position, if it weren't for his falling over from a Troll's 'Emergency Entrance'. The foundations of the building creaked and were shaken, as pieces of the wall flew inward. Had he been able to move, it is very likely that Jonathon would have dodged the piece heading straight for his side. Now exhausted, and in immense pain, his options seemed to dwindle with every fleeting moment.

For each fairy that fell to the Cavalier's blade, Jonathon did notice a slight easing from his sudden exhaustion. Mustering whatever energy he could, he attempted to speak and relay this information to Kaiden, but his recent injuries made it difficult to breathe. Talking at this point would a nearly impossible task. Helpless, and paralyzed by pain, he could do nothing but wait for the rest of the fairies to have been taken care of.

There were so many nasty little fairies, flitting about the humans who were struggling to stay awake against the fairy song. It only made her haze of memories worse.

She did not need to crush them all she figured, only enough to weaken their song. To do that she needed their attention, and so Lyta herself sang, a song she could scarcely remember, nor when she heard it... but it was haunting well enough...

"Come little children... Ill take thee away, Into a land, Of enchantment..."
She continued her song as the little blue, mongrel fairies were pulled from their mayhem towards Lyta's opened arms...
"Come little children, The time come to play," She went on for a time as she waited for enough to gather...

And when her long, strong arms slowly embraced a large enough gathering clutched between her bosom, she crushed them all as she finished, "...Weep not poor children..."

Do trolls cry? Even Lyta did not know, as she relaxed her arms and let the limp bodies of the fairies fall.

[ CARLTON of DENASY ]

Carlton turned at the sound of singing; a troll met his eyes, and unsure of whether the troll was friendly or not Carlton stooped to retrieve his sword. It was easier to move - he could now move, at least, though too slowly to be of any use with his preferred weapon...

But the troll. Even if she was helping take down the fairies, she might attack them next. Normally, Carlton would have tried to reach out to and question her motives, but Kira was still there, probably vulnerable.

Teeth gritted, Carlton attempted to lift his sword and throw off the rest of the sluggishness entirely...

--resilience roll, success--

Through strength of character and sheer determination not to let any harm fall to Kira, Carlton cast off the extra weight that seemed to drag him down and slow his movements. Making quick, precise cuts with his blade, he cut down the fairies that dared near him.

[Ivan]

Ivan had coming rumbling in at the call to arms. His twin axes out and ready to begin killing and hitting whatever needed killing and hitting. Unfortunately what the dwarven pirate got was a feeling of wariness and unease. He heard the singing loud and clear, even if it was a bit garbled due to is slightly intoxicated self. After a few moments Ivan found himself walking slowly until he stopped altogether, fell to his knees, and then loudly slammed face first into the ground. Soon after his earth shaking fall, snores could be heard coming from the lump of dwarven pirate on the ground. His beard would part when he exhaled and his thundering snores came out.

[Tristram]

Tristram had found himself using the nearby table to help hold himself up. At this point it seemed obvious that the singing was producing some form of magic that caused them to fill tired and weak at the same time. Seeing the appearance of a troll seemed to just complicate matters in his mind, but made things better in the physical world. After a few of the enchanting fairies had been disposed of, Tristram could fill his senses coming back to him. Seeing the dwarf so quickly passed out brought a grin to his face but soon enough Tristram was looking about at the ones who could still stand and fight.

"Dispatch the fairies quickly. The fewer in number they are apparently the weaker their song is. Kill them or scatter them, I don't think it makes a difference."

MEPHISTELLA

at first she was delighted, the fairies coming to her call like bees to honey, and wasting no time in weaving their magic. a ring of sleep. she watches as they began to fall to it, one by one, until the song was drowned out by the sound of rock meeting mortar in a show of force a troll won.

of all things - a troll. she hissed angrily at the development but only remained angry for a moment. if the earthen wanted to play then she would play...

with a wave of her hand she released them from their summons, watched grimly and impassively as their expressions changed from feral to confusion, and then she heard the broken wail of one of them at seeing so many lifeless bodies of their kin on the floor.

no longer under her thrall they began to flee the adventurers, giving the troll especially a wide berth, back into their cracks in the walls and up into the chimeny to escape into the night. A few remained here and there, turning on those that had killed the others, but the majority were now gone and so was the spell.

with a satisfied sniff the witch turned from her mirrors.

[Kira Knightingale]

Only scratchmarks remained when the horrid fairy was dislodged from her face by the well-aimed throw of Jonathon's knife. More fairies replaced that one, clinging to her hair rather than her face, and Kira beat at them frantically. Then her knees were on the floor and there were either more fairy's or it was getting harder to beat them away - it was too difficult to be sure.

When the wall caved in under the forceful entry of a huge female troll Kira caught only a glimpse of her as she was dragged across the floor, fairies in her hair, and out of the way of the debris. Too sluggish to understand she felt herself slumping under the effects of the magic.

The song changed suddenly to shrill cries that pierced her ears. The spell was broken and, with a gasp, she sat up quickly. The fairies were still teeming but no longer swarming. Two grabbed hold of her leg and she kicked them off with the other, twisting around to raise her arms once more against the fiends that seemed intent to bury themselves in her hair.

When that one last croon sounded they all stilled for a moment, she saw it with her own eyes, and then the fled from her. With wide eyes she looked up from her place on the floor, still across the room from the others, and felt herself stunned by all that had just happened. One moment they were all resting and talking... and then they were attacked by fairies, with a troll coming through the wall to their aid.

[Kaiden Morgan]

With a grin akin to glee Kaiden lost herself in the heat of the moment, leaping up onto the table to cut down those fairies that chose to swarm the others that were succumbing to the song, and nearly caught herself singing along.

Out of the corner of her eye she saw the maiden across the room, pulled their by the fairies, but made no move to go to her. There were more fairies by the dozen right here and, for the moment, she was lost in the excitement of cutting them down.

They fairies were more than quick but in her near-fevered frenzy she was just as fast. When the nobleman called out and directed them to strike at the fairies her grin only grew along with a twinkle in her eyes.

"On it boss!"

When she heard the song stop and something replace it with a sorrow filled wail she didn't stop. Some turned against her with a vengeance driven attack and she met them eagerly, some tried to flee and she cut them down too..

Too small and scattered to do any real damage to someone that could resist their charms the fairies poised no real threat.

Lyta ignored the remaining fairies, content enough when they fled as she came close. She did however give the two humans with swords in hand a wide birth, with memories swimming in her eyes. She would not act though, they were simply defending themselves from the fairies. Everything else that came for her though... was simply old habits. Old habits she stuck to whilst maintaining the usual trollish silence.

With a tender gentleness unbecoming of stone, the sizeable troll lifted and cradled both the dwarf and halfling, both diminutive pink skins she vaguely had names for, and laid them to rest upon an occupied table, minus their weapons. Amidst the remnants of bowls, herbs and a pack. Making space for the dwarf and halfling of course.

Lyta even made time to place the human that had latched on to the table upright in a chair. The length of her arms made the distances to procure the chair and set him right child's play. She was at least twice again as tall as any human after all and those she had set straight might as well be dead to the world.

Lyta had figured who's scream she had heard, and while dragging a chair to a final downed human and setting him upon it, she made her way to the maiden. She was particularly fascinated by the maiden's red hair. As she knelt down (and the fairies around her fled), Lyta smiled for the maiden and spoke soothingly as she picked her up and cradled her in Lyta's own arms, "Rest, those blue imps will not trouble you whilst I am here..."

[Kira Knightingale]

Kira's large, honey coloured eyes never left the toll's face as she felt herself lifted effortlessly up over the heads of her companions and held like a child in her surprisingly soft embrace. Wonderment filled her as she looked up into the serene and feminine face of the she-troll, surprised at how lovely she was up close, and finally smiled.

"Hello.. my name is Kira, thank you for helping us. You know... I don't think I've ever met a troll before...that was your singing wasn't it?"

She vaguely remembered a voice that had carried above the song of the fairies, a harmony that did not clash or break against the voices of the fairies but simply subdued it, and it had been but one contribution of Lyta's that had put an end to the magic.

Her hand absentmindedly found Lyta's arm, resting it there both to feel the strength of her earthen muscles and also to affirm a sense of friendliness.

Lyta's smile deepened as she listened to Kira's words, her eyes closing just a hair as her smile took up more space. She put the human's name and face to memory, from her freckled peach complexion, honey eyes and flaming hair and responded from her smile...

"I see you, Kira," Lyta, trying the name, said in gentle, hushed tones (for a troll, even one who could sing), "It was Hippolyta who sang, Lyta, yes and I am glad I happened to be around when this happened." Her tone still had the gentle, soothing notes she had no issue holding... and perhaps a smidge of her fascination. Lyta crossed the distance while they talked to the table laden with herbs, dwarves and halflings with Kira cradled in her arms and settled down in a lotus position. Her size guaranteed Kira was still on level with the table. "Are you alright Kira, you have many scratches from those nasty little imps... is there anything you would like me to do?"

[ CARLTON of DENASY ]

The Prince was forced to sheathe his sword, but he drew his dagger instead; smaller and more maneuverable, the weapon was just as sharp and adept at cutting down the vicious little fairies that swarmed him. Before long, though, a new voice began singing and the fairies dropped off one by one. When the last one dispersed, dropping to the floor Carlton turned to thank their helper...

...And found himself gaping most with a gross lack of manners at the troll. Blinking with consternation, he closed his mouth and reasoned that, well, if this troll had just taken care of the fairies and was now helping those who had been harmed by them, then she was obviously quite all right.

Returning his dagger to its proper place, Carlton sped to Kira's side -- to find that the troll was already there, comforting her. This left the Prince at a loss of what to do; well, there was a thank-you in order, of course.

"Madam!" Carlton exclaimed upon reaching Kira and the troll. "Please accept my sincerest gratitude; without you, the fairy business most certainly would have had a much nastier ending!"

[ MEDARA y'TISAN ]

Medara is downed by the fairies, unable to move and therefore unable to defend herself against their scratching. Pestering little buggers, he thinks angrily to himself, wincing at each new scratch and shallow laceration. If he could use his frying pan, he would be taking down the fairies by the droves, putting his indignant anger and frustration to very good use.

The Halfling isn't quite sure what happens next; one moment she's being attacked, the next moment she's laid out on a table and experimentally, she attempts to move.

Her movement includes a roll to the side, and she finds that yes, yes she can move again when she rolls right off the table and hits the floor with a thud.

"Alight!" she scowls. "Which one of you dumb asses put me up there!"

She glares accusingly at the cavalier, but unfortunately the cavalier looks out for the count at the moment. Still, Medara keeps up her glare; the cavalier works as well as anyone else as the subject of her ire.

[Kira Knightingale]

Kira returned the smile with a warm one of her own. Though her eyes were still quite large in taking in the sight and state of affairs concerning the troll she found herself at perfect ease in Lyta's arms.

"I'm alright Lyta, but thank you."

She raised her hands to her cheeks while she spoke and felt for the scratched, the tips of her fingertips coming back damp and red with her own blood, but they did not hurt. The faint smell of herbs reached her nose and something tickled the back of her mind, she really should take a look at those that she had gathered, but she was too content to remain in Lyta's arms... until she remembered.

"Oh no, the others! Is everyone else alright?"

[Kaiden Morgan]

A laugh escaped Kaiden's mouth, a strange lilting laugh a little too feminine for her boy's costume, and she stifled it with a cough.

"Be at ease little one," she said, finishing the closest lingering pests with the sharp end of her rapier in the soft side of the chair she was currently standing on the back of, "Lest ye' remember what mischief you were up to while you were out for the count."

Of course it was misleading but it was also funny.

[Tristram]

The Nobleman found himself watching intently as the troll placed the Dwarf and Halfling on a table, then himself back into a chair, and even the newer member in a chair as well. Then proceeded to hold on to Kira like a mother would a hurt child. Tristram stood up from his chair and cracked his neck a bit and stretched his back from the stiffness it had acquired for remaining in such an odd position for so long.

Seeing the Prince swoon over the Maiden once again brought a sigh and a roll of the eyes from the Nobleman. Which was replaced with a slight chuckle seeing the Halfling roll off the table and curse afterwards. Tristram flexed his bandaged arm at Kira's mention of seeing how everyone else was and actually was glad he had been out for that fight. Using his cane to steady himself, for his legs were still a bit stiff, the nobleman decided to try and puzzle some of this out.

"Anyone else find it odd that not a few moments after we are all together we are attacked not once, but twice within the span of less than a day. I would presume that either one of us here has a price on their head, or mad someone quite upset over something. For I do not take these attacks as simple coincidences, I don't believe in them.
