"You started it." Nina snorted playfully. She smiled to herself when Raine accepted her idea. It made her feel good when the two adults thought she had a good idea.
Nina groaned loudly this time. "Really? Clean the house?" She crosses her arms, eyes sliding to the window. She had just been outside hunting, but it was never long enough. She instantly perked up when Raine's thoughts changed to the outside world. Realizing she'd been tricked, she lifted her nose slightly. "Well, father will be disappointed to see the house not perfectly clean, but if you insist, we can go outside."
She didn't wait for a reply though as she tossed the meat into the cooler and bolted outside.

"Aye, aye. My fault for throwing wood onto ready embers." Replied Raine softly as she cleaned her hands. "Yup! I mean - cleaning is a never ending cycle after all." Her eyes twinkled with amusement at the loud groan.
The amusement just grew at Nina's other reply, "Poor Blake. But he'll just have to deal with it. Especially if we want some cobbler or some sort of sickly sweet berry dessert." The wolftaur's tail twitched as she had to call most of it out loudly since Nina had already bolted. With one last wipe of the rag and after grabbing a basket, Raine quickly followed suit.

Nina turned right around outside to face the door. She was a little wild spirited, but she knew better than to run from an adult talking to her. And she was glad she had stopped. "Berry cobbler?" She yipped excitedly, jumping up and down on her toes from that bottomless vat of teenage energy. It had been a while since their last cobbler. "Can I help make it with you?"

"No." Raine shook her head sadly. "No you can't." The last sentance was shaky though as her serious expression was falling apart quickly. Raine fixed the basket hanging loosely from her elbow before looking back up at Nina with a small smile.
"That was a bit too teasing of me." Raine pulled at a stray strand of hair, "Of course you can help me make it! I would love for you to." She winked and nudged Nina, "Maybe if we pick enough we can even make two and you can decorate the crust for the second one any way you want to."
The wolftaur nodded, "But we better be quick if we want to gather enough berries. Come on!" With that she started to briskly walk towards the woods.

Nina started to stick out her lip until she got a good look at the blue female's face. "Awe, that was low!" She squeaked, voice cracking slightly. Blushing, she immediately turned away.
"Is that a challenge?" She asked with a smirk, going into a slow run to pass Raine. "The most berries gets to eat the biggest slice!"

"Ah." Raine nodded at Nina's reaction. In the pack it was practice to tease and taunt others - she guessed it was a social way of toughing others up? Really Raine never understood the reason behind some actions, only the warm feeling of comfort that they gave each other.
"Of course it is!" Raine giggled as she increased her running speed, "If you can find the bushes now!" Laughter shone in her eyes as she laced arms with Nina and led the teen down the path.

"Oh, I'll find those bushes!" She howled, racing happily alongside Raine, working only a little bit to keep pace. "I'll find so many, the other bushes will go into hiding along with the critters I haven't caught yet." She boasted playfully, just having fun now. That was one of the things that Nina loved about having Raine around. She had liked it when it had been just Blake and herself, but Raine liked to "play" more than Blake would with her. Raine had kept Nina from becoming too hunt focused.

"Of course!" Raine laughed as she raced through the forest, "Those poor bushes! I'll never be able to use them after you have your way for fear of you finding them again!" She slowed down as she noticed the clearing just ahead, where the berries grew.
So many bushes! Raine's tail wagged happily. So the winter frost hadn't stopped nature from reviving after all! A basket bounced against her arm reminding her of their need. "Come on Nina! Take one." Raine lightly tossed a small basket to the teen and grinned, "I bet I'll fill my basket up first!" With that she headed towards the bushes, eager to pluck the now ripe berries.

Nina grinned happily as she caught the basket and headed for the nearest bush. The concept of light competition always cheered her up. Well, so did the thought of a fresh berry cobbler. “I’ll bet not!” She shot back, her hands flitting through the branches of the first bush. Getting the first big slice of a fresh berry dessert was good motivation for anyone.

"Of course!" Raine giggled as she flopped to the ground and started to nimbly pick the fat berries from the prickly bushes. Mmm. They smelled so nice. The wolf smiled, maybe she should pick some flowers on the way back to decorate and scent the house with.
Raine's cheeks flushed even as she kept picking berries. Just how girly was that thought? Really, how was it that she was a pack hunter...sometimes it surprised her herself. Then again, Raine smiled and just shook her head.
I better focus on this or Nina really will get ahead! Already her basket was hanging heavy on her elbow.

As the basket filled, Nina's excitement grew. She couldn't help but to toss a couple berries into her mouth as she moved along. They were so plump and juicy!
With their increased picking speed, the baskets were full before they knew it. She'd had to go off a bit to find better bushes and keep out of Raine's area. With the basket topped off, she hurried back to where the elder was. "Raine!" She yelped, jumping through the bushes and holding up her full basket, searching quickly to see the progress of Raine's.

Raine quickly plucked the berries from their leafy home and couldn't resist but to pop a berry or two into her mouth. Mmm. Neither under ripe or over ripe, the berries were just perfect. It was a good decision to go after them today.
Time seemed to pass quickly as the wolftaur got lost in her work. Raine was so lost that she jumped in surprise as Nina came through the bushes. "Oh!" Her basket went tumbling and she dived over just in time to save most of the berries. Thankfully she hadn't over filled the basket, else more berries would be staining her top.
Raine wiped berry juice from her chin before looking up at Nina. Her cheeks were lightly flushed as she blinked sheepishly, "Did you fill your basket then, Nina?" The corner's of her mouth turned up in slight amusement.

Nina had just enough time to set her basket down and half emit an apology for scaring Raine before she started laughing, holding her arms around her stomach as her shoulders shook. "S-s-sorr-rr-ry, R-Raine! I h-h-hope you di-didn't eat mor-re than y-you picked!" She padded over to help pick up the fallen berries, taking deep breaths to get her laughter under control. But, really! How often did Raine embarrass herself like this? NEVER! The teen wanted to be bad and enjoy the moment a little. "Yeah. It's -giggle- full now." She grabbed up a handful from the ground and dropped it into Raine's basket. "Was -snort-yours?"

Jeez you would think something had amused the younger wolftaur. Raine flushed as she herself tried to not reflect on her funny stumble. With a pouting frown Raine shook her head, "Was full." Her soft blue eyes flashed with playful indignation. "But then this bloody snake just came snappin' out of those bushes! It startled me then I jus' had ta use me basket ta get it. Saved our lives I did."
She sniffed, "I don't understand the amusement in my savin' us." Uncrossing her arms Raine scooped up some more berries into the basket. Her shoulders were lightly shaking though as she fought to keep herself together. "I guess-if-if we...are finished here. Then we should head back and clean the-the berries."

Nina threw a few more scattered berries into the basket before registering the accent. She stared up at the pretty adult before she started laughing out loud again, nearly dropping her own basket. She was so glad Raine had moved in with them. Everything seemed fuller, more complete. There was more laughing and smiling. Even her father seemed happier.
She fanned her face to cool the warmth of her cheeks. The day was starting out so well. Sunny, warm but not hot, green and cheerful. She cleared her throat, finally calming down. "We can clean them. That'll be the easy part. Not eating them on the way is the hard part!"
