A friend gave a burned cd that had B.Y.O.B., Cigaro, and Chop Suey on it. Next week, I bought Steal this album and Toxicity from a used record store down the street. I think I was 15. And now it consumes the vast majority of my playlist on my ipod....

I looked through the whole damn thread, 'cause I know I've posted before but I couldn't find it! gonk So here goes: There was no "first time" for me. I grew up with SOAD. I remember being about 6-7 riding in the car with my Dad listening to them. I remember in 5th grade my dumbass teacher saw I had a CD of them and took it from me, also sending my to the principal for having "bad music". And in July of '06 finally seeing them live at Ozzfest with 2 of my best friends. They've been a part of my life as long as my Dad has (he entered my life when I was 4, marrying my mom). xd

It was last year, I was 12. I had been watching an AMV with about 20 different songs on it on YouTube, Psycho was one of them. I had no idea who made it, or what it was called, so I devoted 2 weeks of my life to finding it. I had never even heard of System of a Down. I decided to check out more of their songs, and thus yet another fan was born. Best friggin' day of my life.

You know, I couldn't tell you the first time I listened to System, but I do remember my first System of a Down concert. It was September of 2005, Van Andel Arena, Grand Rapids Michigan. Me, my uncle, and his friends had driven the long drive up to Grand Rapids, listening to Mesmerize (they had the uncensored version, which I hadn't heard cause my mother was kind of overprtoective at the time, bu tI forgive her for letting me go to the concert). I walked into the front doors sporting my SOAD shirt (the one where they're all on the clock ((which fits me very tightly >.<))), my jean jacket, hair dyed blue, spiked wristbands. There were literally girls standing there shirtless, smoking cigarettes (might have been joints, I dunno). I remember Mars Volta and Bad Acid Trip playing in the background (they opened for SOAD, but we stayed by the shirt booth, waiting for SOAD). Then, when it was time, we all started walking to the ground floor, and I got a nice place like 30 feet away from the stage, behind the mosh pits. It was cool, although we had to stand. Anyway, I remember all the people standing next to me, air smelling like weed, then Daron says into the microphone (and bear with me, Im going off 2/3 year old memory here) "The country is split up into the Red States and the Blue States. I say we all join up and make ONE BIG PURPLE STATE!!!!!!!!" Then, they started playing Violent Pornography. Through the whole concert, sweat was making the hair gel run down my forehead, as I was jumping up and down to Bounce! and Know, singing along to Prison Song (these aren't in order, mind you.) Then, I remember a large camera coming from the ceiling, and I was tottaly puzzled as to what it was for. I don't remember who said it, if it was Serj, Daron, or even anyone from the band, but I remember a voice saying this would be where the band was filming the video for their hit, Hypnotize. My heart was filled with ecstasy. As the camera waved on by my section of the ground floor, my uncle turns to me, asks me if I want him to put me on his shoulders. I was speechless. I was so filled with excitement, I jumped right on top of him, and as the camera passed by, I hoped and prayed that the camera saw me. To this day, I still havent seen myself in the video, but I still have this (to put it bluntly) simply BADASS memory. On the car ride home, an hour drive, we did nothing but sing along to the songs we just got done dancing around to. It was probably the single greatest day of my entire life. My t-shirt smelled like marijuana for about three days (during which I only took it off to bathe). I still remember this guy who was smoking a joint, he turned and looked at me with this big old grin on his face. And there was this short blonde girl who was doing alot of this sort of dirty dancing kind of thing that I can't quite place. Anyway, I hope this memory can make up for not remembering the first time I actually heard them. I do remember that I got into them about 6-7 years ago. I was still in Elementary school when my dad showed me them, though I cant recall the first time he actually listened to them with me. whee

I was at a lame party as well. It was my parents party. So im bored and i start watching TV. I have an on-demand channel where you can pick a choice listeneing of anything available. So i picked System of a Down becuase it was the only rock song there. The song was Hypnotize. I stood wide eyed. It was so deafiningly awesome. I loved that song so much. That one song was all i listened too the whole year. And then in January the guitarist in my band came over and he started to play Chop Suey! I was familiar with it but i really had no idea. Then i heard Empty Walls by Serj and i fell in love with him. I bought his album and i couldnt get enough. So i hopped on the CPU and i looked up more System. Ive been a fan ever since. heart
