The girl scrunched her nose, shrugging and taking her time before answering. "Well, ya know, you don't seem like you have chemistry or whatever. Just looking at you, it kinda looks like your friends, or maybe brother and sister or something. I mean, you don't look alike, you just have that feel, ya know?" Hailey gave Rory a small smirk, as if she had more to say but couldn't in front of Lee. Giggling as she spoke, she finished with, "I mean, there're other things, but... I should probably keep those to myself. We're in public, ya know?"
Lee rolled her eyes, hoping Rory wasn't listening to a word of the girl's tale. Then again, she was a little curious as to what exactly she was withholding, whether it was true information or not. Even if she didn't go to school with the girl anymore, she didn't want rumors to surface about her.

"I got three sisters, lass, an' Lee is nothin' like 'em," Rory chuckled, resting a hand on the back of Lee's neck, fingers massaging gently. "Frankly, I donna think anyone here's gonna care what you say, either, so gae 'head an tell me these . . . other things. I'm curious t' know. After all, I donna hae much experience wi' girls, so, please, enlighten me."

Hailey tilted her head, giggling innocently. "I'm a lady, Rory. I would never gossip like that in the presence of others." She looked off, purposely avoiding eye contact with Lee, before offering a proposition. "How about this: I'll tell you if and when you buy me something to eat at the carnival." She was hoping for a date, but would have to settle with just spending time with him; whether Lee was around or not didn't matter.
Lee eyed the girl, then Rory. She actually wouldn't mind Rory talking with her, if only to learn second hand any rumors that had been circulation about her. After all, the boy really didn't seem to like Hailey, from what she could tell, and she didn't believe he'd fall for the girl's schemes.

Rory looked down at Lee, the two seeming to have a quiet conversation, then looked at Hailey. "Alreet then. I hae t' get some things from me home, I suppose I could buy you a meal on me way there an' you tell me why you think Lee an' me ain't a couple." He looked down at Lee. "It'll give you a chance t' put away th' new clothes an' check in wi' th' Gradys and Lauss, I guess."

Hailey grinned joyously, clearly thinking his agreement was a win for her. One-to-nothing, Lee.
Nodding silently, Lee hoped Rory wasn't as easy a target as her male classmates had been with Hailey. As irritating as it was to know the girl basically thought she and Rory were going on a date, she would suck it up for now. As the trolley slowed near their stop, Lee stood, tugging a bit on Rory's arm to whisper into his ear. "You'll tell me everything she says, right?"

"Aye. Absolutely," Rory replied, helping Lee off the trolley. He didn't really care much if Hailey managed to make it off or not, as he started walking with Lee back to the carnival grounds as if the other girl wasn't tagging along. "I figure I might gae see me parents later, Lee. I need t' talk wi' Da about when I should gae back t' workin' wi' th' horses. Figure you might wanna come along an' meet me little sisters an' mum."

Lee held his hand, smiling weakly up at him. She trusted him, and fully believed he wouldn't get manipulated too easily.
Hailey had made a small scene behind Rory and Lee, purposely tripping as she got off the trolley to get Rory to help her up. Unfortunately for her, he didn't even seem to notice, and she was helped up by a group of other men, pouting as she got to her feet and trailed behind the two ahead of her, quite a bit father behind by now.
"Y-your mom? But--!" Lee brought a hand to her mouth, her worry showing in her face. "I'll embarrass you..."

"La, girl, but me mum knows I'm datin' a former outsider. She an' me da do actually talk, you know. To each other. About stuff." Rory laughed, hugging Lee to his side, completely oblivious to Hailey's antics behind them. "You wonnae embarrass me. It's alreet."

Lee buried her face into his side, smiling awkwardly and laughing with nervousness. "Ohh, she's gonna hate me, isn't she?" Perhaps she should consider not saying anything unless spoken to. That might lower the likelihood of sounding like a fool, at least.
Finally catching up, Hailey walked on the opposite side of Rory as Lee, looking up and smiling. "I found what I want. Get me some cotton candy, kay? I can't really eat meat, and that's all you seem to have around here..." She stuck out her tongue playfully at Rory, hoping she could finally get some alone time with the boy.

"She's gonna wanna know about you, though," Rory said, but let it go as Hailey caught up to them. "Alreet. There's a stand on th' way t' me home." He looked at Lee. "I'll come by in a little while, yeah?" He kissed the top of her head, then reluctantly headed off with Hailey in the other direction from Lee's vardo, headed towards his own.
Looking down at Hailey, he sighed. "Well, you got me alone now. What were them things you wanted t' tell me?" He stopped at a small stand and got a carton of sweet potato fries, actually feeling slightly peckish himself and figuring the picnic wasn't going to happen now. "W're not carnivores, you know. W' do eat veggies."

"Am I gonna get to see your home?" Hailey bit her lip with anticipation, almost tickling at his side as she hoped for an invitation.
Lee watched the two walk off, glaring as she heard the girl's question before sighing and turning in the other direction, occasionally looking back to make sure Hailey hadn't started making out with Rory yet.
At his question, Hailey shook her head, giggling before looking up at him. "I can't tell you until I have my food. Come on, try to have fun..." She reached to hold onto his arm as she stole a fry from him, trying to look into his eyes before saying, "Wow, are your eyes white? That's weird. You're not blind, are you?" As blunt as she'd been about it, she didn't seem to mind too much.

"I'm not blind, nae," Rory answered, suffering the girl holding his arm. He moved the carton of fries out of her reach, though. "I just donnae hae color t' them. It's not unusual in me family." He stopped at the cotton candy booth, ordering one for the girl. "I donnae really think it's a good idea fae you t' go t' me home."

"Aw, why not? I won't steal anything from you, promise." She pouted up at him, giving him her best sad puppy eyes. Hailey took the cotton candy greedily, casually pulling pieces off and popping them into her mouth. She'd wait until he asked again to tell him anything. She wanted to get her story straight in her head, after all.

"It ain't got a thing t' do wi' you stealin'," Rory said, though wary that she'd bring that point up. "It's just tha' I like me privacy an' I just ain't used t' lasses bein' there." He led her over to a bench to sit. "Now then, girl. What did you want t' tell me?"

Pouting still as she sat on the bench, Hailey kicked her feet a bit, looking off for a moment before speaking. "I feel bad for you, Rory. You seem like a really nice boy. It's a shame." She had a hint of pity in her voice, though still sounded as chipper as ever.
