"The bette' part of 14 yea's," Liam smirked, feeling fairly certain that Chao was trying to dig up some dirt on Rabid, "Whaddya wanna know?"
He was horribly thankful for hte slowing of pace...and the jacket...and the not running away. The most he could do was spill his guts to someone that apparently knew Rabid.
If all else failed, he coul gut her and blame it on someone else. Even if he most likely wouldn't have the heart to, the thought still crossed his mind.

Chao whistled, "wow, 14 years? Almost as long as I've been alive." Off by two and a half years, but, whatever. At his question she shrugged, "I dunno, anything you feel up to sharing that she won't kill me for knowing? Or nothing if you prefer, a lot of Gaians seem to like to keep their pasts firmly away from them."
She was thankfully oblivious to any thoughts of her own possible gutting otherwise the passing touches on the currently locked gun in one of her larger pockets wouldn't have been so brief. But she was oblivious and so she just kept leading away, into the forest, heading down a fairly well trotted natural trail.

"Well," Liam through for a moment. There wasn't really a whole lot to tell, now that he thought about it, "She were abandoned a' 4 er so, bein' the product o' a rape. Just long enough ter get attached to 'er mum n' dad, eh? She took pictures since she was a li'l sprog. Bit o' an outcast, which is probably why we got on so well. 'Er surname's Devreaux, and she would have told ye any of that if ye asked." Of course, he had left out the mildly disturbing secrets he'd learned over the years, and there were quite a few. Talking calmed him down, and he was quite thankful for it.

Chao quietly filed the information away in some back pocket of her mind, "Devreaux, right," a nod, "mmm, she's still taking pictures," she couldn't help but laugh at the thought of the pictures Rabid currently had of their sons together, "but she's been doing them for a while, huh? I hope she backed them all up on that computer she bought...."

"I wouldn't know," Liam shoved his hands in his pockets, "Was a digital camera. We can only pray that they exploded. 'Alf of 'em are o' me." In all likleyhood, more than half. One of his most prominent childhood memories was that horrendously bright flash during one of his bouts with momentary faux-psychosis. Then, to change the subject abruptly, "'Ow's Rabid doing, anyway?"

Chao laughed, wondering if it was the same digital camera, it seemed quite likely that it was.
At his question she considered it and shifted paths, taking the more direct route back home, "alright, I think..." she sighed and lifted her shoulders in a shrug, the ending of their day on the town had worried her. She thought she'd felt Rabid crying as they headed back onto thr road, but by the time they were back at the HQ the older woman had seemed alright and afterwards Chao had been so shell shocked by finding the piano in their room that, well, the chance to ask had slipped away.
She flicked her eyes up to the path ahead, almost home....

"Ye guess? 'At can't be good..." Liam was beginning to get more nervous by the moment. What if he was somehow affecting her mood by disappearing so suddenly? Naw. In all likleyhood, she'd be over him and he'd be nothing but a distant childhood memory.
Pessimism....gah...

Chao shrugged again, "it probably isn't good, but I'm sure seeing you will be a good thing for her," the trees abruptly ended and there was the teen's home. Quickly noting which lights were on and which weren't Chao led the way to the back door and into the warm kitchen.
Shutting the door once Liam was inside and kicking off her boots onto the mat by the side of the door Chao went on, heading for the stairs, patting the slumbering dragon that had sprawled itself half on and half off the carpeted steps, "Shashi, that can't be comfortable, why not go sleep in Reid's bed?" the dragon yawned and shut its eyes again.
"Suit yourself."

Liam followed Chao closely, feeling suddenly uncomfortable. Upon seeing the dragon, though, he smiled and gave it a quick pet. He didn't want to disturb it...but it was so cool.
"Nice place," he looked around and smiled to Chao. Compared to where he'd grown up, anything was a nice place...but he meant it, this time.

Shashi grumbled, giving the foreign man a look. Yawning widely he lumbered to his feet and followed the duo.
"Thanks," Chao smiled back over her shoulder and continued up the stairs to the hall. She peeked into one room, noting the sleeping occupant with a smile. Stifling or no it was wonderous knowing everyone was home.
Shutting the door with a quiet click she headed down a bit futher and opened another, casting a look back at Liam, "erm, well, we need to go through my son's closet to get there. I know it sounds weird but that's where we decided to put the portal because, really, it leads to his room at the Headquarters." In hindsight it probably was a bad choice, but she couldn't do anything about it now.

"Uh...alright, luv," Liam lowered his voice instinctively. He was no stranger to oddly-placed portals. Nearly every bedroom in the orphanage was technically in a different world. What confused him was the thought of such a young girl having a son. Babies having babies, he guessed and shrugged.

Chao nodded and opened the door, sliding her head in, grimacing when Reid's emerald eyes immediately met her as did the low light of the lantern style light that was currently on. The firefly was on his bed with a headphone in one ear and his lunatic plushie wrapped firmly in one set of arms while the other played with two of his miniture dragon plushes.
"Reid hun, I thought you went to sleep," Chao murmured and opened the door fully, crossing over and picking up her son. "Even your sister's asleep."
"N'sleepee," the toddler replied, allowing his Mu to take off his headphones while his eyes slid over to the man at the door. "Whoszat?"
"That's Liam, he's a friend of Ms. Morbid's, I'm taking him to the HQ to see her."
Reid lit up, both figuratively and literally as his stomach began to glow beneath his pajamas, "n'see Ike?" an excited wingflap accompanied this.
"Well yes... I suppose..." oh dear.
"Reid come?"
Chao threw a helpless look at Liam and nodded, "sure hun."

Liam cocked an eyebrow at the little boy. What in the nine levels of Hell did she have to sleep with to....awwww...but he was so cute...
"'Ey, li'l guv'nuh," he smiled sweetly and bent slightly to the toddler's height, "Who's this Ike person?" His gaze lifted to Chao and his expression changed to a kind of...mischevious questioning smirk. That was a male name, wasn't it?

Reid smiled at the new man, liking his tone, "Ike's Ike!" How silly a thing to ask.
Chao shook her head and rolled her eyes, "Ike is Malachi, Rabid's son, a 'Magical Mishap' like Reid is. Vampiric squirrel of doom I think."

Liam's face twisted into a an expression of terror. She had a son? But she said...
"Tell me, Chao," his accent had disappeared again, "What, exactly, is a Magical Mishap?" He hoped the definition was something along the lines of the name. If Rabid had married a squirrel man...
