...I thought it was kind of mediocre, actually. :/ The first season episode that dealt with the situation of time travel was much more amusing... Elusiveness of the Fog had the usual lack of character development (at least it's not as bad as being persuaded to believe in Goemon's relationship with Susan in Alcatraz, for example), a tired plot, and just didn't entertain as much as other 'recent' specials, like Return the Treasures, or Episode 0. Feel free to disagree, though! razz

Not to be an a-hole to anyone, but honestly, why do people be so overly critical with the specials? I mean, you will never get the oh so perfect jewel of an hour and a half, so why not just sit back, watch and enjoy it for what it is? Sure, there's things wrong with them, but hey, even the manga was lame at times. And that was done by the guy who created the thing.
I'm just tired of people actually expecting the specials to be "their" perfect movie and then when it isn't they have to find the littlest things wrong with it to put it down. It's an anime. It doesn't matter.
I'm also tired of every special now having to match up to Episode 0. The same mantra of "Episode 0 was better" is getting very old and repetitive.
I just don't understand why some get so disappointed at them. You would think at this point in time people would just not care and take it as a form of mindless entertainment, as it is.
As for my thoughts on Alcatraz, I was little offended at their use of the JFK and RFK assassinations as some whole conspiracy theory story plot. Using real life murders in a fictional anime seems tasteless to me. Especially something that recent. -shrugs- Goemon suddenly "loving" some woman, although lame, didn't really matter at the end to me. Besides, everyone knows he's gay.

I'm not being all too critical, I don't think - it's just that they've probably done better with specials. In any case, expectations never put me off watching something new, since something is ultimately better than nothing. I'm eager to see the special released on the 25th of this month.
And of course there's never going to be a perfect special as everyone has a different idea as to what they'd want. I was just using Episode 0 as an example, in any case. I didn't say it was the best of the bunch, nor do I feel it is.
I'm sorry if I provoked something, though. :/ Didn't mean to elicit this kind of response.

I need to learn to be more thorough when I rant. xD
That wasn't aimed at you, but just reading your post made me think of those people who are overly critical. And it brought back bad memories of going to school with idiots who saw you as less of a person because you liked something they didn't. And morons on the internet who do the same. I love people. Can't you tell? xD
I agree, though, how everyone has their own thoughts on what makes something good. I'd like to see some really serious and violent special with Goemon fighting ninjas or something, but I know I won't ever get that. I like blood and violence and death and stuff. All the things that are important to a Lupin special.
I liked Episode 0 for it's dark tone. But at the same time I liked Twilight Gemini for the character design and colors. I rarely find myself paying attention to the story when I watch the specials. My brain just kind of shuts down and I watch it. Or something. xD

True dat - I know a lot about it. Reminds me of how riled up people can get on the subject of subs versus dubs, for example. sad Quote: My brain just kind of shuts down and I watch it. Sounds like me with Voyage to Danger. The Lupin series almost always involves suspension of disbelief, so once that's out of the way, it's all fine and dandy, and amusing as hell. razz

Subs versus dubs is such a ridiculous and meaningless argument. Especially when people bring up voice fluctuations and crap like that, trying to sound all professional and like they know what they're talking about. I usually just read or listen to others discuss it and laugh at how stupid the whole thing is.
I just really don't get some peoples views of if you like dubs then you're basically the devil. xD

There are more important things to argue about, after all. razz Quote: I just really don't get some peoples views of if you like dubs then you're basically the devil. xD I actually had people ragging on me for liking subs. XD Whatever happened to each his/her own, you know? razz But all well. No number of people disagreeing with what I enjoy can change my mind about it - and why should it? *gentle shrug* Anyways, since this seems to be the only living thread at the moment... it's time to throw out the usual questions. What are your favourite episodes/specials? smile

I'm used to subs, since I buy imports and don't know Japanese. Yay for trying to understand strange incomplete sentences written at the bottom of my tv! =D
Yeah, with me people can like whatever. -shrugs-
For me, favorites are as follows: First series - time machine one Second series - haven't yet seen them all, but I like the pencil chewing cat one so far, mainly because I was like "Kitties!" while watching it and laughed at the kitty cuteness whee xD Third series - I think it was called Brothers Fury in the import Specials/movies whatever - haven't seen them all, but I like Mamo, Voyage to Danger, Die Nostradomus or whatever it's called, Twilight Gemini and Episode 0 all for different reasons
My usual answer for favorite special is Episode 0, but I didn't feel like being unoriginal. xD

I really need to get my hands on some imports. XD Was it in an expensive box-set?
I'd like to see more of season two beyond episode 79 (in Japanese, at least, since if I'm going to view something in a language I don't understand, it might as well be the original. XD Watching a few in Italian WAS interesting, though, though I didn't grasp all that much razz ). Haven't actually seen much of season three either, beyond two or three episodes. *headslump* ...So, unfortunately, yes, I'm missing the cat reference... unless it was in one of the earlier episodes, which could mean I forgot it. sad

The imports I got? They were just the separate sets, with the three discs in each one. I'm still working on getting all of the second series. Just need money. xP
I've only seen clips on youtube of Lupin in Italian. It was odd. And the cat episode was episode 106, so that would explain why. :3 I started backwards on the second series. xD Wanted to see episodes I hadn't seen, so figured that was the safest way.
The third series was worth seeing once. About 98% of the episodes I have only seen one time. I should watch them more to get my moneys worth, I suppose. Actually, most of the dvds I have I watch once. Weird... xD

I'm having some real bad luck trying to find a good few of these sets on Ebay. Worse still is that my folks lift their eyes at every online purchase made that isn't in some way practical and useful in daily life. "Erm... I'm learning a third language? << ... >>" ...I wish that'd work. XD They are also not so keen on me making my purchases from a country far away, because shipping's expensive e.t.c. You'd think that I'd have freedom with my own moolah, but no. XD Nothing changes until I move out, I imagine. XD Quote: I started backwards on the second series. xD Wanted to see episodes I hadn't seen, so figured that was the safest way. That works. razz I like that logic. XD

My mom is like that, too. Although usually with anime and manga she doesn't care. Well, anymore. I hate buying video games, though, as she thinks they are a waste of time and money and always has something to say. xD
I buy all the import sets at animeniacs.com. I don't trust ebay for dvd imports. I'm also weary of buying things from other countries. xP Sucks since there's some stuff I want that I can only find for sale from Asian countries.
Exactly. xD "But...it's educational!"

My mom's a little more lenient than my dad, fortunately. razz Thanks for the link... and yes, I don't trust Ebay myself. Bought an artbook once, never received it, and Ebay 'compensated' for my loss with a couple of dollars. ._.; Mmyes, but that was so long ago, I hope it never happens again.
It's true that some of the good stuff (the things I most often seek) always end up being in a foreign country. *shakefist*
This is what happens when Lupin doesn't really take off in North America. sad The fans lose out.

Well, that's good. And you're welcome. :3
That really sucks. I thought ebay was better than that at bad sales. I went their once looking for imports and they all seemed to be bootlegs of bootlegs. I mainly use ebay for videogames.
Yeah, that's why I'm sort of hoping the live action movie, if it ever is made, does good, so more Lupin stuff will be marketed here. Otherwise, I don't really want Hollywood touching the Lupin series.
