((Yes, yes he did...Don't get used to it... wink ))
Though he was sitting down, he did his best to bow lavishly at the waist, his eyes dancing while his face went sincere. "I'm honored, Miss Lin. It seems my father has taught me well." He said, and when Lin smiled at him, he suddenly became a lot more interested in the lesson. Gesturing to the chair next to Lin, he stood and gestured to it with his hand. "May I?" He asked, one brow raised slightly in question.

"What the hell are you talking about Ra? who are the two people your talking about, and why are they after Ialo?" He skittered through the vents at top speed dodging the occasional fan with ease. He continued on for a few more moments until he realized he should probably prepare himself for whatever was going to happen. He drew his daggers the blades barely glinting as they passed the occasional opening.

((Don't you hate it when you don't realize until much later that the post you're waiting for is on the NEXT page? LOL!!)) Lin smiled politely and nodded, at both things Ambrose said. "Yes, your father taught you very well. I always greatly appreciate a family where the father takes an active, mature, responsible role in his family, teaching his children not only good morals but also proper manners." Lin then moved the book even closer to the chair beside her that she had assumed Ambrose was going to sit in originally. "Of course. You will probably be able to see the textbook easier this way."

((...Oh yeah...I mean, who pays attention when the little digit things suddenly go from 10 to 11?))
Right, Ambrose thought. Textbook...Nodding, he smiled gratefully and settled in the seat. "Why thank you, Miss Lin. Tell me, what are you looking to accomplish today from reading the book?" He asked, finding he enjoyed hearing the sound of her voice. It was...melodic, in a way. Like a siren song that threatened to lure him in if he didn't keep paying close attention...And damn if his thoughts weren't straying today...

((Did not see this coming at all. lol!))
Lin smiled brightly and excitedly. She finally had found someone else who liked learning as much as she did, who was anxious to know what was going to be covered next in a lesson, textbook, and/or class.
"You know, if you wish, you may simply call me Lin, now that we know each other a little bit better. And, unfortunately, I am not sure how much I was hoping to accomplish from reading the book when I do not even know what we are currently covering in class. However, when I decided to take this class, I had a preset goal for myself. I wanted to learn either 3 small spells or 1 large spell each class day. Spell casting is not my top skill, but when you have a weakness, you need to work hard to overcome it, I believe."
"What do you wish to accomplish from this class and textbook, Mr. Ambrose?"

"Oh, please, call me Ambrose...Lin. I expected to accomplish...anything that could help me better protect my family. I'm the shield you see. Protecting Lia while away from home is my duty." He said, with a note of acceptance in his voice.

Lin smiled brightly and turned in her chair so that she was facing Ambrose directly. She was so excited! "Ok, Ambrose. Thank you. Well, shield spells are some of the best spells you could choose to focus on! I don't think there is anything better than protecting the ones who are important to you. And shields are ALWAYS needed."
She turned slightly back to the book and flipped through the pages quickly. About half way through the book, she made a small sound of triumph and flattened the book out again in front of Ambrose. She pointed to the middle paragraph of the 11th chapter with her long, elegant finger.
"This chapter seems to be focused on defensive spells and this section seems to cover the first basic shielding spell. Now, what level are you at? Can you do the basics?"

((Right, I'm just going to play as Athena and have her go about her normal school life for now. So as of now, Athena is in stasis until SK gets back!))
Athena's ears drooped even more as Luna scowled at her. She didn't think she'd get chewed out this badly! I mean sure, she had probably eavesdropped on a highly top-secret conversation, which might put the school in jeopardy of closing if it got out, and she was just a student who might not be trustworthy...
Athena decided to stop thinking about that, realizing she was in far deeper than she feared. With her tail nearly between her legs, Athena looked at the adults, fearful of what they might do to her to rectify the situation.
Alec simply shook his head at Athena, realizing she was just a curious student who happened to be listening to the wrong thing at the wrong time. But that still didn't excuse her from the situation. Alec let out a sigh as he calmly walked over to her and put his hands on her shoulders. He lowered his head so he was eye level with her and spoke calmly and rationally. "I dunno just how much you heard, but I think it'd be best if you act like this never happened, capiche?"
Athena ears shot up in surprise as she could barely believe what they just registered to her! She was being given a chance to walk out of her scott free! Athena tilted her head to the side much like a dog would in confusion. Her voice cracked ever so slightly in surprise as she spoke in near astonishment. "Really? You're gonna let me go after I heard all that?"
Alec simply cocked his head to the side in response and gave her the most serious stare of confusion you could imagine. "Heard all of what?" Alec then gave Athena a small wink to clue her in to the situation.
Athena was about to open her mouth and correct Alec's obvious blunder, but quickly caught his wink and stopped. The little light bulb in her head suddenly went on, and she closed her mouth as the realization kicked in. Athena smiled and nodded her head as she spoke. "Riiiight. I'm sorry Al, I have no idea WHAT I was talking about!" Athena giggled in a mock blond-moment to help sell the act, and went back to her seat to collect her bag. She made a small twirl as she picked it up and threw it over he shoulder in one swift, fluid motion. Athena then gave a large smile to all the adults, gave them a small wave, and promptly walked out of the class door, her tail swishing behind her in a pleased manner.
Just before Athena began to resume her normal school duties, a thought went through her mind about the fiasco she had just nearly avoided. Alec's definitely the coolest teacher I've ever had! And with that thought, Athena smiled again and went on with the day with a slight bounce in her step. Although she still wondered just what it was that was going on with all that. Maybe the headmaster had been kidnapped! Or maybe...
But then Athena stopped herself. Oh wait, that never happened. Athena smirked at her own stupidity and quickly erased the event from her memory.
Alec smiled and shook his head as Athena left the classroom. After he had shut the door behind Athena, Alec turned towards Luna and Nathan to assure them they would be safe. "Sorry about that. But don't worry, I'm sure our secret is safe with her." Alec then crossed his arms in front of chest as he addressed his guests with a more serious tone. "Alright, so what exactly will we be doing to get the headmaster back? Where is he anyway?"
((lol, so whatcha think of my stand-in skillz? Did I get her character right?))

Ambrose just stared for a moment when she smiled, but quickly blinked and tried to focus on the words in the textbook. The spells he saw were some his father had taught him when he'd been six. Those were level 1 shield spells. Carefully he flipped through the pages until he came across one of the spells he'd been working on lately. "Yes, I've learned the basics, but...Here we are, this is it. Level 7. It's forming shields out of not just air and your own magic, but elemental substances like water, earth, fire...I can usually get the element to surround something, but solidifying it enough to stop anything from passing through...now, that's the tricky part." He said, frowning a bit as he slid his pencil behind his ear.

Lin was practically jumping out of her seat as she realized how high of a level Ambrose was at in shields. In fact, she DID jump out of her seat and walked backwards from the table a little bit. Then, she grasped the pendant around her neck.
"Wonderful! This will be much more interesting. And I have water right here we can work with. It's the water from the Magic Spring in my home. All Elves carry a vial of it around their neck. It gives us a boost of energy and magic and heals us faster if we ever somehow get injured. It is quite wonderful. So, if you wish, I can drop a few drops of the water onto the floor, and you can use it to practice with. It will expand into a larger mass when need be."

Aw, she looked so happy, how cu-Wait a minute. Backtrack. Rewrite. Aw, look how considerate she was being...How cute...Damn it. During this internal frustration, he didn't answer her for a second. But then he brought himself back, and smiled. "That would be wonderful, Lin, thank you. I mean, it's kind of bad when your baby sister can control the elemental shields better than the shield expert...I'll get better, though, with time and practice." He said, smiling gratefully at her.

Lin smiled brightly and nodded. "Exactly! Practice is wonderful! Even when you feel you are an expert at something, you can always learn more and become better."
She unscrewed the top of her pendant vial and slowly dropped 3 drops of water onto the library floor. She then stood back, screwed the top back on the vial, and dropped the pendant back against her chest.
"Alright. Now, I am no expert at forming shields. In my home, with my people, the patriarch of the family, which is almost always a father, is the one skilled with shields. Obviously, so he can protect his family. My father is the shield master in our family. However, I have watched him enough and asked him enough questions that I have a basic understanding of shields."
She then gestured to the book on the table with a smile. "And we can always refer to the book, of course, when we have a tough question."

"Of course," He agreed, and stood a bit straighter as he looked down at the water. He spread his feet shoulder width apart, squared his shoulders. "I suppose you know that to form a regular air or 'invisible' shield, you have to draw the magic from your body, give it substance and wrap it around something. But with elemental shields...Well, you have to let out your magic, have it surround the element, and then drag it back in towards you or whoever you're guarding. It's like a vortex or...a tornado, constantly circling, guarding, so anything that comes at it just bounces right off. But water and fire would be the hardest, I suppose, since they're not solids. I've always found it best to start with the heardest thing and work your way down in a certain way when it's possible." He remarked, connemplating the water at his feet before slowly moving his finger in a circular motion.
The drops came up off the floor, spinning in a little circle at his waist. As he pushed his magic out, the droplets spread out, forming a little ball of water that constantly kept spinning. However, when he cautiously grabbed his pencil and tried to poke it through the side of his mini shield, it went right through, and the droplets collapsed onto the floor. "See?" He asked, shrugging his shoulders as he tried to figure out what he was doing wrong.

Lin was quite impressed that Ambrose consciously chose to work through the hardest option first. He definitely wasn't lazy or the type to shy away from a challenge. She appreciated that!
Lin listened to Ambrose as he explained the problems he was having forming the shield with fire and water elements. "Well, this is handy, then. I have the spring water around my neck, obviously, and I can also manipulate and create small flames of fire. I briefly mentioned that to you when I met you and your parents, but I will not be surprised if you do not remember it, being as it was months ago."
She smiled and then nodded to the pool of water at Ambrose's feet. "I do not know much about shields, but I am an expert in nature and elements. Water particles expand to form a solid, which is the exact opposite of what any other particle does on Earth. This might just be an inaccurate assumption of mine, but since you have problems trying to keep things from passing through the shield, you may be trying to bunch the particles even closer together to allow no room for an object to pass through it. For any other element, this would work. But not for water. You actually need to consciously focus on expanding the particles, moving them away from each other but to also move themselves around the object you are trying to shield. That should cause the water to freeze, but you want to make sure you do not surround the individual you are shielding completely because the frozen ice would suffocate the individual."
She then blushed very lightly and looked down at the ground. "Again, this is merely an option that might work. I am skilled in nature, not shields."
