Marissa nods in intrest. "Oh, you were noble," she commented. "My family was of humbler roots- I grew up living the gypsy life, you see. But there was certainly no shortage of songs around a blazing fire, that's for certain." A small laugh.

"Ahhh!" Kale laughed, pleased with himself for his strength. He noticed Vanna's wiggling legs and helped to support her as he stood, guiding her a few steps forward.

"Yes, we were merchant-made nobles. My grandfather bought our family title, though nobody used it save for my father. He clung to our new status like it was his life..." She shrugged. "It... wasn't a pleasant childhood. Very dull and lifeless - very controlled. If my father could see me now..." Lorelei laughed, but it wasn't all that pleasant - in fact, her face was a little pale, and her fingers stumbled on the strings. "If my father could see me now..."

Vanna fell silent, sensing her mother's uncertainty and fear. She clung to Kale still, but watched her mother with three wide golden eyes.

Heather just sat and listened keeping quiet. She felt a little awkward around people talking about how their lives were. She never spoke of hers.

She scopped Amkia up once he was free of the other two and just played with him on her lap for a little bit. She kissed his head and listened to him chuckle and giggle.

Marissa sensed the change. "I'm sorry, I didn't.." she began. She knew that there were plenty of troubled pasts alive in the caravan. It was what drove some of them to the gypsy life in the first place. But there were, of course, troubled futures as well, she thought, glancing at her son and thinking bitterly of fortunes.

Kale was blind to the discomfort- what seemed to be a recurring theme. He continued to laugh with Amika. He did note, however, that Vanna seemed to want to be near her mother, so with a small smile, he pulled her awkwardly (yet still gently) to where Lor sat.

Lorelei shook her head, trying to clear away the unwelcome thoughts. "No, it's fine. Really. I shouldn't think about those things - that isn't my life anymore. I'm much happier here. My mind's only been dwelling on it because we're headed back to my home - but I'm sure Val or Oq can do something to hide my identity." She shrugged, smiling, and took up another, more cheerful tune on the harp.

Vanna clung to Kale and stumbled along behind him, legs wobbly and uncertain. When they got to her mother, Vanna launched herself at Lor, latching onto the woman and interrupting the music for a moment.

"Well, hello!" Lorelei said, taking a moment to stroke the girl's hair. "You're going to sit over here, now?"

Vanna nodded and snuggled closer.

Heather continued to play with Amkia, she was good at pretending not to be there and while the other two spoke about things then well, it gave her a good excuse to pretend all her attention was on Amkia. She was better off that way after all. No one could tell what she was really thinking.

Amkia held onto Heathers hair and giggled happily while turning to look at Vanna and Kale.

"I understand," Marissa said. She glanced at Heather. "You're awfully quiet," she said, "What's on your mind?" It was a friendly inquiry, but she began to wonder if she should've swallowed her words. In this caravan, it was never certain if one should ask such a question.

Kale went over to Amika and continued to study his bright wings, stroking the feathers with one chubby finger.

Turning her attention to Heather as well, Lorelei set her harp down on the blanket. She scooted forward awkwardly, Vanna still on her lap, and took a piece of half-stale bread and spooned stew onto it. She folded the bread in half and took a small bite. It wasn't half bad!

Vanna reached out and took a piece of bread for herself, beginning to gnaw on it. It was a little too hard for her tiny little teeth, but it was still good - Uncle Voltaire had baked it the other day, and he was such a good cook!

Heather looked up and smiled, "Oh just things that have been said about Kala and Amkia. They seem to be very dramatic siblings." She smiled and patted Amkias head.

Amkia giggled at both Heather patting his head but the most tickleist was the stroking of his wings! He couldn't top giggling!

Marissa nodded in agreement. "I know that feeling," she said softly. "Kale's fortune's have me very frightened. And yet, there's nothing that can be done. As gypsies, we've got to simply follow the flow of the meij, havn't we?"

Kale was highly amused at the giggles pouring from Amika. He tickled him some more, faster, until he himself was in hysterics.

"We can prepare as best we can," said Lorelei, shrugging slightly and holding Vanna close. Betrayal on the water...

"Have either of you sought further, beyond just the words of your Banyas?"

Vanna watched the two boys, and soon wanted to get down from her mother's arms. Lorelei let her, reluctantly, and Vanna half stumbled, half crawled to where the two boys were.

Heather nodded, "Yes. I went to Val for a reading. She confirmed that one of my children are going to fall, and really, I can't see how Kala can fall, I would have said she was fallen the minute she appeared." Heather sighed and just looked at the children. "After all... Amkia is just so.. well.. look at him."

She turned to Marissa and smiled. "Its hard just to follow the Meij sometimes. There have been times when I have wondered what would happen if I left the group for a while. I doubt it would make a difference." She sighed, "I dont want Vanna to get hurt. I dont want to see any of the children hurt."

Amkia was in pain and crying by the time Kale was in hysterics. He refused to go to his mother though and instead wondered if pulling Kales ears again would have the same effect, touching his own wings had.

"Yes, I had a reading too," she began. "Before I continue, I should explain something about Kale. I am trusting you wholly with this information, because if it fell into the wrong hands..." she cleared her throat nervously. "He is controlled by a medallion. The Queen Firos Medallion. Whenever someone wears it, he loses his free will and will do their every bidding. Val said...he would be puppeted in the forest. And the choice of the outcome would not be his. He would pay the price. And she said, that the Son would return...but not my son." It was hard to detect the emotion in Marissa's voice, or if there was any at all. She simply sat, shredding a blade of grass in her fingers.

Kale jumped when his ears were touched. The sensitive nerves tickled, and his ears quivered. He laughed in surprise, batting and rubbing his own ears to rid them of the strange sensation.

Lorelei looked down at her hands and half-eaten sandwich. "That's... horrid..." she murmured. "Can it be changed at all? I've heard that sometimes, they are only possibilities, not certainties.

"But this is so much worse than the threat of a betrayal by a friend..."

Coming up behind Kale, Vanna joined in and began tickling his ears as well, giggling.

"oh." Heather just thought of something. "You say, Kale can't control his actions when someone wears it? Does that mean, he could, if being controlled, Kale could be the one to betray Vanna, not from his own will. I know that sounds horrible.. but oh no." She blinked a few times, mainly thinking aloud.

"This medallion... who else knows about it? Surely if someone may use it they must know about it." She looked at Marrisa, surely she would keep it safe if she had it, unless, there was more then one.

Amkia giggled as Vanna helped him tickle Kales ears.
