Fao smiled, easily charming, and looked at Lauss. "A carnival is a traveling show of performers and animals. We have vendors for food and games and all sorts of wares. I run the fortune telling booth there. Not just the place I work, I live there, too." He returned his gaze to the girl, golden eyes closing slightly in thought as he studied her. Cute, but very shy. Easy to see why she was friends with his wife. "You should come visit sometime, both of you. I'm sure Zia will be happy to meet another Essentic as well."

Fully recovered, he glanced around. The scenery was mostly the same, with the exception of an odd woman he had not noticed before. She appeared to be off somewhere on cloud nine. She was undoubtedly having a better night than he was. Kaosu laughed weakly. On a whim he called her out, "I want some of whatever you're on!"

Oh look what we have here, someone was calling out to herrrr~ One of those pretty boys no less. That intriguing one who, despite the huge versatility of the people here, seemed out-of-place. She couldn't remember his face one bit, the others at least called up a memory of the EBI files.

"What I'm on?" she turned to him, swerved loosely and approached him.

"Lad, I'm sober and slowly starving, but the company's a reasonable substitute for nourishment, wouldn't you say." she grinned at him cheekily, tilting her head aside and giving him a coy lookover. Ohooo, what subtle hints of foreign blood there. Not as subtle as her own little off-points though, no, this guy just smelled of demonoid.

That reminded her to go and sniff Trystan out later, too. That Faolan was joined in that union she wouldn't bother with confirming. His birth records were much too vague anyway, and apart from the visual marks, he didn't look like someone who'd go snarlysnarl on people anytime soon. Unlike Trys.

Sooo, yes, I like the people around, they're all rather interesting... and I think you have a story to tell, too, mister.

"... tell me tell me, how come I have never seen you appear in our records?" Question out of nowhere, a stone tossed blindly into the pond. Whatever his answer would be, this could be fun. She wondered if he would be able to deduct -or maybe he already knew- that she was one of the shop's employees. Well, THE employee.

Mei grew tired of watching the little screens as her initial excitement faded. While Banning had led away a few people, she thought it be more or less a time to make her entrance...as another owner of course. Getting up was more of a hassle than she had bargained for because the dress was flowy in the bad-for-convenience sense and she nearly tripped once or twice before she reached Kyru's, who was busy terrorizing the rest of the staff members. The chair he sat on now had large holes gorged out of its metal frame and pieces of fluff from the cushion was floating all around. It took of her might to resist facepalming as she picked her proto up around his belly. "Don't eat that stuff, it's not good for you and you know it," Kyru gulped as she gave him her most serious glaze. From her previous experience, Banning has enough money to spare one or two chairs even if she's unsatisfied that he'd have to. "Sorry, but I'll have to count on you guys to clean this mess." She bowed slightly to show her sincerity before the two took their leave.

Mei let her little draconian Essentic fly around as they left the room not only because it was easier but also because he seemed a bit heavier than usual. "Have you gained weight?" She asked in a sort of half joking way as she pushed the door open to he ballroom. "Nrrr..." Kyru's face dropped as he stared back in an are-you-serious manner. Even though he never spoke a real word, he was quite easy to read. "Be sure to enjoy yourself, although I'd advise you lay off the buffet tables," the girl grinned with with knowledge that he didn't really eat human foods. She was the only person Kyru allowed to tease him without him getting all defensive. "Although I'm counting on you as a part of the guard team, I still think you should enjoy yourself." Kyru saluted in mid-air, almost falling like a stone to the floor but managed to catch himself, then he flew off leaving Mei to mingle.

The girl brushed up her seafoam blue dress as she walked towards the crowd and fell flat on her face. "Owie..." Kyru hacked away a few giggles somewhere above, knowing full well that she was probably alright. It was one of the many reasons Mei hated dresses.

Kaosu raised a brow when the strange woman called him "lad". What an interesting term... he had not been called that in a very, very long time. "Sober, huh? I'd guess that puts you and I in the same minority," he replied pleasantly, sizing her up more carefully. So she was a member of the staff? No... she was part of the company. She had said so herself. That could only mean she was involved with Essentics more... directly. His heart skipped a beat. He needed to be careful around her. It would definitely would be a shame if he got kicked out so early in the evening.

"So you work for Banning, hm? Is your job really so exciting that you no longer need to eat...?" he purred, making idle conversation as to get a better feel for this female. He needed to try to figure out her temperament in case she started asking uncomfortable questions. He could tell she was looking him over. Suspicious, maybe? Or just curious? She solved that mystery for him promptly. Wasting no time, she called him out for the fake he was. Oh well. Maybe he could weasel his way out of trouble the old fashioned way?

"That's probably because I am not in any of them," he replied evenly, as though they were discussing something as casual as the wine. Shrugging, he continued, "A friend of mine was invited but he had a death in the family. So I came instead to see what all the fuss was about." Oddly, very little of his explanation was a lie. He smirked and added, "Don't worry. I won't cause too much trouble."

Telling the "truth" had been one blind gamble, but he figured he had better chances of making it through the night by acting believable. Had he denied the fact that he was a party crasher, being the terrible liar he was, he probably would not have made it very far. Hopefully this eccentric employee was not too strict about the ball's guest list?

“Shush, not everyone is squiffy yet.” she grinned, glancing around briefly and taking note of Trystan especially. Elst and Verdant had looked like they were having fun with the ethanol, too, though the plant-man didn't seem to be affected too much by it. “There's minors around here, too, so na.” she stuck her tongue out at him a little cheekily. For a moment she even looked around to check on Misha. He knew not to start on alcohol, from own experience. She'd let him, the first time, and his reaction to the stuff caused him to brand it as something diabolical and makes-my-tummy-hurt. Good boy.

“Yes, I work for the guy. You speak of him as if you know him from somewhere or other.” Mind telling me how, lad? “The job's busy but it pays well. Just haven't gotten around to sneak one of those baby tomatoes yet. Want to join me and pilfer some?” Inclining her head towards the Ballroom/Dining room entrance, she smiled at him coyly. Nah, she wasn't out to get him. Just entertained by the enigma.

“You know, that makes disturbingly much sense. Figures none of our records but madame Eversong's state any such thing being probable.” Tut tut. “You better not. You'd only risk your own neck making a fuss here.” ...that did sound scarily much like an ice cold threat. That dead-serious demeanour melted away quickly enough though. You better have heard me, boy.

“Makes me wonder why you decided to come... we take great care to keep our clientèle trustworthy. Who'd you get the invitation from, eh?” Surely someone ratted, but for some reason she wasn't too concerned. Discretion didn't mean silence... if someone had indeed informed him, he or she must have had a reason to.

Kaosu quietly watched Longway, still trying to categorize her character. She was very... perky, to say the least. However, she also seemed to be reasonably responsible. He followed her gaze around the room absently. She was checking out the guests, and considering the fact that she stopped on Trystan (he made a note to go bother that kid later), he guessed she was making sure no one was causing trouble. Her energetic attitude was deceiving -there was something to this woman. Ever paranoid, he opted to be careful.

"Oh, I don't know him personally. But I would like to. I hear he's an... interesting character," Kao replied casually, deciding to stick to telling the slightly edited truth. Whatever this female's intentions may be, she did not seem too determined to kick him out (at least not yet), so he allowed himself to relax a little. "Baby tomatoes? Sounds like a plan~ I have yet to explore the hors d'œuvres myself. If they're half as fancy as the rest of this place, they're definitely worth checking out."

When Longway suddenly became dead serious, he cocked a brow, surprised. Oh hoh, so this chick-o-dee could make threats, could she? He was more amused than intimidated. After all, kicking up a fuss was exactly what he intended to do. "Don't worry, I'm a good boy. I know how to behave," he pointedly lied in a blatant not-so-trustworthy tone.

He smirked, "Why did I want to come? Is that really such a hard question to answer? Who wouldn't be interested in an interesting party for interesting clientèle in an interesting place hosted by an interesting noble? I'm bound to find something to do with myself here. Not to mention the free food." He shrugged and dug out the stolen invitation from his pocket. "He didn't exactly give it to me, but... Robert Lynd. I don't believe he was a customer of yours yet, but I can see why he might have wanted an Essentic. And why he doesn't need one now."

Elst smiled, finding the boy's astonishment rather amusing. Youth, even innocence perhaps, seemed to still have quite a strong hold on this one. Yes, very amusing. He smiled, turning for a moment for a slice of what seemed to be a rather ripe cherry pie. More and more new things to try, this really is turning out to be a lovely evening...

Aoi bowed his head slightly, a nod of thanks perhaps? Oh... I'm glad you find it interesting, there are a few other things I can do, but I don't think they're fit for a formal party... Elst nodded in agreement. "Oh, yes, you should see his dances, they lay out beautiful spellwork, enchanting really."
PostPosted: Fri Jun 05, 2009 9:50 pm

Shade blinked, wondering what else Aoi was capable of. He was curious at the mention of the dancing. "Maybe...I could see if I ever go to the nursery?" He realized how excited he was getting over this and scratched the back of his head sheepishly. Despite his embarrassment, he still hoped that perhaps he could see what else the little essentic could do. Heck, he wanted to see what kind of a place it was that Elst and Aoi lived in as well - it sounded interesting, to say the least. He just hoped that he wasn't being annoying right now - judging from his height, he assumed that Elst was probably much older than him.

Sebastian Letts.

Trystan imprinted the name into his mind with a curious thrum, his eyes flashing sharply. So that was the kids name. He didn't look too old, nor too young. Trystan felt a bit glad knowing that one of the first people he would formally talk to during this entire affair was someone younger then him. A bothersome thought occurred in his mind as soon as he thought that. Pushing it out with an almost eager intent, Trystan turned his sleek blue eyes onto Sebastian, nodding fluidly and letting a curved smile trace his lips.
"A pleasure, Sebastian." The name tasted foreign on his tongue as he tried it for the first time. Not that he was put off by it. Keeping his fluid, calm exterior, as opposed to the mayhem that was his actual thoughts, Trystan thrummed, one hand on his hip as he eyed the twenty year old on faint amusement.

Sebastian didn't seem to have any reasons behind having started to talk with him, Trystan decided when the other fell silent. He wondered, on some slightly distant level, what the kid was thinking, and why it was taking so long for him to come up with an interesting topic. Though, that was being hypocritical, as Trystan wasn't usually the best at conversations either. Although, this kid seemed like he was consciously trying to pull off his best act, and that one in itself amused Trystan to no end. Sebastian sure was an interesting person. When the other brought up the question of how he had been invited, Trystan cocked a brow. There was a good chance that meant this man was hardly an owner, and that left Trystan wondering just how much information he should divulge. A smile curved onto his lips.
"I have done business with Banning recently..." He commented, gesturing behind him to where Crux still stood with Zia. "And what of you?" He commented, glancing back at the other. "Pardon me if this is completely off base, but you seem rather new to this entire field of... business, per say." He commented smoothly.

About to say more, Trystan tilted his head up as he felt eyes on him. Cocking a brow, he swiveled his head, and was met with the sight of Longway staring him down. Raising a hand, he waggled his fingers at her with a smile that said 'I'm harmless.' Then he got a good spot at the man she was conversing with. Kaosu. An instant fidget released through his entire body, and even Sebastian would be able to feel the other man freeze up. So he did come here. Trystan had the faint suspicion that he would, and the good nature to be unhappy that he might have been planning it. Not that it was his place to intervene. But the idea of him meeting Banning... Trystan stiffled a growl, the edge of his cheeks an unhealthy red. Turning from the other in an 'I dont know you' sort of manner that really said 'I know you, I just dont want to acknowledge you yet', he looped arms with Sebastian and lightly tugged him towards the ballroom.
"I believe enough time has been spent entertaining ourselves with the entrance." He said in a distracted, strained manner. "I'm sure the ballroom will fit your tastes just as well."

Striding into the ballroom, Trystan was about to create more small talk as he released his grip on Sebastian when he came upon a peculiar sight. What was this? A woman? On the floor.... of all places. Signaling to Sebastian for a second, the obsidian haired mind strode over and leaned over, a curious smile on his face.
"M'lady?" He commented in a sultry manner. "Surely the floor is not a place to show off such a fine dress and face..." Trystan smiled, offering a hand. Who was this young woman? And why did she look so very interesting?

Was the guy serious? Mei gave a sort of sour gaze but not one too unpleasant. She had completely forgotten any pain she might have received from the awkward landing. "No sir, I was warming the floor for you to step on..." she said sarcastically as the hand was offered. Despite her initial impressions, the kind gesture tugged at her guilt. Maybe he's not such a bad guy afterall but some gut feeling told her to be cautious. She took the hand and got herself to her feet, resisting her urge to dust the dress again. Not that any good luck wondered her way but she always made an attempt to avoid the bad since they stick to her like insects to malasis. Normally, Mei would let out some casual remark but she had to pull a Kyru, examining her savior from bottom to top. The man's eyes unnerved her the most but she pushed the uneasy feeling aside. It made her expression changed to somewhere between an awkward grin and a frown. "Thanks for the help, I really do appreciate it." Not that she could be any more obvious with her discomfort. There was now a dangerous balance between her guilt and her unease.

"By the way, my name is Mei. May I inquire yours?" Mei said with the best smile she could put on at the moment. She shifted from one foot to the other and scratched the white lacing on her dress that dug into her side, dress hating reason number two. Almost every unlady-like flaw Mei had seemed to be showing through this conversation. The best she could do was try another hesitant smile. "Sorry to steal you away from your, er, buddy there."Buddy there...is that the best you can come up with? How does Banning do this on a day to day basis? He somehow manages to maintain his pleasant pokerface through thick and thin while she couldn't even hold a conversation without showing every thought she had clearly on her face. A shiver went down her spine as she knew her little bodyguard was watching nearby, probably giving an unpleasant face. The Essentic was going to make her job of appearing friendly a little more difficult.

Kyru was now flying above the two but a bit distant so as to avoid attention. His senses were driving him crazy, each attempting to push him into action but he knew better than to cause a commotion. Afterall, Banning wouldn't put people in needless danger, so maybe his intuition was wrong this time. Despite being childish and simple at times, the draconic proto took his job very seriously. He hovered for a few more seconds uncertainly before landing quietly with a thump not too far away. Since Mei had requested before the ball to not act irrationally so all Kyru could do now is look a bit menacing from the distance.

Yes. This man was very serious. Watching the girl with a sultry interest, hiding his earlier blush from Kaosu's appearance in the entrance hall, Trystan chuckled in a reserved manner, once again turning into the perfect gentleman he was at the bar. Wait, perfect gentleman? No. That one in itself was a lie. He couldn't do that anymore. Not with a certain redhead lingering around. "Thats very kind of you, but I dont think I'll be sitting on said floor any time soon." Trystan said wryly back to the woman, deciding after a few seconds of listening to Mei talk that he wouldn't fall back on his mannerisms. Instead, he would act as he would to just another tramp. See where that brought him. Helping the girl to her feet, he looked her over. Smiling at the small thanks, he waved a hand. "Its no problem. Anyways, a beauty such as yourself should not be on the ground." His blackened eyes flickered with tamed interest.

"Trystan."
He said in a sultry manner, when a name was offered in return for another. In any other situation, he would have lied. But in this situation, he was sure that Banning had hopefully not invited anyone who would use a name against another person. "Trystan Bishop Chevalier." He amended lightly, realizing that he had not been proper in introductions. He wondered half heartedly where this girl was from, and of what importance she was to Banning. At the mention of buddy, Trystan blinked and glanced back at Sebastion. Smiling wryly, he invited him over with the tilt of his head. After all, he'd dragged him all the way into the ballroom, hadn't he? "Its alright, I'm sure no one minds." he said, a hint of dryness in his tone. Placing a clawed hand on his waist, he observed Mei for a moment, curious. "So, Mei... If its not too rude, might I inquire as to what you are exactly, to the Duke?" He questioned. He was an owner, but what of this girl. Something told him she wasn't just another one like him.

From a ways away, near Zia, Crux watched with interest where his master had gone. He wanted to idle closer, but knew that it might not be wise.
"Perhaps we should move towards the ballroom." He commented lightly, wondering what would become of such an adventure. He was also wary of another presence within it that had occupied some caution in Trystans mind, and was now filtering through his bond. Strange, whatever could be the cause of that?

Who asked you to sit on the floor? the question circulated in her mind as she unconsciously cocked an eyebrow. He was either attempting to play along with her sarcasm in the wrong way or misheard her completely. That's not something of dire importance so she pushed the thoughts aside. Trystan's heavily sugar coated comments made Mei cringe as she still wasn't used to the high class lifestyle even after her years of employment. She had been trained to take bashing critiques and criticism over her childhood years and well throughout college and the mentality of expecting the worst was hard to break. The way the rich ladies demanded their compliments makes her want to puke and she had tried, with some success, to train Jonathan from using such words when describing her. But this was an almost complete stranger and probably not someone whom she would talk on a regular basis. She can't possibly expect them to know her likes and dislikes right off the bat. Tolerate it, just tolerate it.

It seemed that amongst all the owners, the first thing they'd ask is what her relation is to the Duke. Was the guy really that popular? But then again, it was, and still is, Banning's party...one where all the Essentic owners gathered. Guess it didn't seem too unreasonable for this man to be curious; however, it wasn't in her best interest to spill her secrets now. She was here on civilian duty, to get to know all the owners as another owner before they get preconceptions about her and her job. "That's a funny question to ask, Mr. Chevalier, I'm a guest here like you. The Duke and I are on a purely business relationship," which was true, every contractor with the Duke was on a business relationship. Some of Mei's positive feelings were warded off when she noticed claws on his hands.

Kyru could smell the chocolate parfaits and deserts that sat on the buffet table. Although it wasn't a necessity for him to eat human food, he couldn't help the fact that he enjoys the sweets. Maybe just one or two wouldn't hurt. He tuned in his senses to Mei but turned his back and wobbled off towards the food with a grin.

She'd come out of Banning's office a little dazed, and as she'd swept her gaze from one soon to be owner to the other she smiled. She was cupping the spark in her hands as if it were a tiny little kitten, though one of it's ghostly arms had grabbed onto her thumb for whatever reason. Banning had told her to ask Ellandra to go into the office, so turning to the girl she walked up to her.
" It's your turn. " Then she was off again, not really looking back to the waiting room to see if the girl had gone in. As soon as she was out in the hall, a staff member was by her side guiding her back to the main entrance; they didn't want guest wandering into the forbidden parts of the building and Dreamer would have gotten lost anyways. The spark warmed in her hands slightly, it did so every time she was thinking about things that needed to get done, things that stressed her. Dreamer wondered if Banning had anything to do with it, after all the spark seemed to not want her to worry about things and to just have fun for now. Once she was back at in the main entrance, the staff member had disappeared just as quickly as he had appeared by her side, making her swivel and face the hall that lead towards the ballroom. She wasn't sure if she wanted to go back, with the spark in her hands and all. Dreamer didn't really have anywhere she could put it in, her clutch could barely hold the content she'd put in it before.

Dreamers gaze landed on the back of a very familiar red head and her lips pulled into a smile. Oh yes, she remembered him quite well.
Kaosu... She though amused, she walked over to him, this time shifting the rock so that she could hold it in one hand. Putting her hands on her hips she went to the duo and finished the triangle, she could introduce herself to the lady after. " Kaosu, what in all of the worlds are you doing here? " The evening was going to be at least a little more pleasant if she knew someone. Turning to the lady she grinned. " I'm Dreamer Eversong. Hope I'm not interrupting something important. " She'd always felt it rude if she didn't introduce herself, just in case she might have butted into a conversation.

[[Location]]: Hell if they know!

Verdant and Ellandra were lost. No, not just lost, hopelessly lost. Ellandra was terrible with directions and Verdant had been too busy blushing and thinking about a certain young impling to even remember how the hell he'd gotten to the waiting room in the first place.

"Okay, I swear that this place is starting to freak me out; it's like that hallway in The Shining or something," Verdant murmured. "Seriously, I haven't seen a waiter or butler or maid or anything! How do we get back to the ballroom?

Ellandra clutched her little gold box to her and shrugged. "Verdant, if I knew, we'd already be back there by now," she said quietly, still in a bit of shock over having received her very own Essentic when she'd been so certain she wouldn't ever get one. Being lost in the manor hardly compared to the wonder of that. She glanced around curiously, taking stock of their surroundings and seeing nothing familiar and no-one else around, either.

"Well. . . what do we do? We can't just stay here, but we're likely to just get even more lost. . ." She said, and trailed off, biting her lip and fighting the urge to take her hair down out of the style Verdant had stuck it in. More convenient or not, it was hard to deal with showing her ears to the world!
