Like the Touching, Jaid made sure he actually got up and showed up on time. Unlike the Touching, though, he managed to get to the Sands without getting tangled up in anything. He even managed to look slightly less red-faced and out of breath than he had at the last two Hatchings. It was a good start. He had even made himself a mental checklist since the Touching of things to do while at the Sands today- he wanted to be ready this time! It was just a matter of taming that scattered brain of his into order. Be on time, stand fairly near to the front, look confident, get out of the way if a dragonet comes through, don't shrink away... it all ran through his mind in a constant flow. The first Hatching he got mauled. The second time he hid too much. This time...well, he hoped this time he'd manage to do things right.

Jai stood up straight and kept his arms folded, trying to play the part of someone at ease with things. He managed to at least look to anyone concerned with giving him a glance that he wasn't two seconds from breaking down. Nevermind that his heart was racing and galloping faster than a speeding Runnerbeast and his throat felt drier than the Hatching Sands...at least he looked composed and ready.

...If anyone didn't notice the fact his robes were on backwards, anyways. He sure didn't.

The boy kept reaching up and subconsciously brushing at his hair as he watched the goings on. It was much shorter than it had been the last time he stood on these sands. When the lice broke out...he had panicked and instead of imploring oil from either a dragon rider or the kitchens like a normal person, he had been a total deadglow and tried to hack his hair off in a frenzy to rid himself of the bugs. Fortunately, he stopped before he had hacked himself bald. One of the women he had worked with in the kitchens before he had been Searched had been nice enough to even up his hack job a day or so ago, but it was still choppy and uneven. You couldn't make gold from a pile of dung, after all. At least they'd been kind enough to treat him for the lice while he was there too. The thought of bugs crawling all over his scalp still gave him the shudders.

Just focus on the Hatching. Be self-conscious later, his mind reprimanded sharply. He had to stay on task! Still...he couldn't help flick his eyes around the crowd in between the excitement to see if he was getting any 'looks'. They're all focused on the Hatching. Like you should be. With that, he turned his focus back to the event on the sand, though his hand still drifted up every so often to pick at his mangled locks. At least they'd grow back. Eventually.

Dragon after dragon burst out of the eggs as the moments wore on and every time they did, he felt his heart spike. Could one of them be his Bonded? They were all so breath-taking and wonderful! Even when they passed him by, despite the disappointment he felt, he also felt a tug at his heartstrings when they found the one they were meant for. Such a bond...it was beautiful! Maybe someday- if not today- he'd find one of his own. It was something to wish for, right?

There was also a primal fear that washed over him as well when the small dragons bumbled around the sands. Though he tried to keep his brain focused on the event, he just couldn't help think about his first hatching and that brown... He swallowed deeply, rubbing subconciously at where the scar on his outer thigh hid beneath his robes and clothing. It...it had just been a fluke that he'd gotten clawed. He had been fine last Hatching and so far, nothing had maimed him this time. He'd be okay. Right? After all, what were the odds of lightening striking the same place twice? He just had to stay calm. But it was hard enough projecting the image of composure and staying standing near the front when he'd really rather hide behind someone. Hard, but doable thus far.

As the most recent hatchling emerged, Jaidev gave a small laugh. He could empathize with that one! From the point of view of such a freshly born creature, all the people converging and staring must be terrifically unsettling! But as the green continued to hesitate and look at the Candidates with anxiety whirling in her eyes, he looked around the crowd, as if it would somehow help locate the bonded. He finally let out a huge breath he hadn't noticed he'd been holding as the green seemed to look intently to the group of girls. Maybe it had found its Bonded amongst them! He'd never seen a dragonet go Between yet and he didn't want to start today.

She still looked scared stiff, even attempting to hide behind the enormous Queen until she was again pushed out for all too see. Was someone going to help her? Would she even be able to Impress? Jiriar continued to shift uneasily--even he'd heard the stories of dragons going Between if their chosen partner wasn't on the sands. He didn't want that to happen to this one.

L'thor chuckled and gave a slight shake of his head. "I suppose it must be! My Raith was never worried, but she's like your Beru in that respect," L'thor shot a grin at Merya, "a lot like me, too."

Veyes and Nathail hadn't Impressed yet. There were still a few eggs left, but looking down on how many candidates there still were, he wasn't very hopeful for his young friends. It could still happen of course, but if it didn't... well, he just hoped they weren't too disappointed. It was easy to say 'not everyone Impresses first time' or 'maybe another clutch' but when you were the one walking away without a dragon it was hard. He remembered.

Davian watched as the blue and then the green Impressed one after the other. Unlike his sister he wasn't losing his nerves, there were still several eggs on the sands and he was hoping that one might choose him. Staring at the green dragonet he had to smile slightly, she was most definitely a beauty. His eyes flickered away from green to stare over the eggs still left on the sands, his heart pounding.

Sonya heart warmed when the green the impressed. She sank back down into the crowd and tried a move a little further forward, if not so she could see herself, but the dragons too. She had told herself since she got here, that there was no point in hoping for a dragon but something inside had already got her hopes up. Now she was going to go through the whole hatching, jumping up each time a dragon hatched.

C'miel laughed from his spot off to the side, eyes crinkling with the the smile. It was almost... endearing of the little green. From the looks on the still standing candidates faces, most agreed with the sentiment, though there were a few older riders that had a tint of worry in their eyes, hoping the green wouldnt blink between in an attempt to get away from the stares.
'I'm more endearing' Lurenith grumbled in C'miels head, the wyerling in question snatching back the large clump of meat the brown had attempted to swallow in one go, much to Lureniths protests.
From here he could finally get a good look at the dragonets that had hatched, soon to be joined by the green trembling on the sands. They certainly made for a rather odd looking bunch. He nodded a greeting at the other Impressees.
With a soft flutter of wings, C'miel turned his head as claws dug into his shoulder. A softly crooning Toad attempting to hide himself completely within his partners hair, eye tinted maroon at the prospect of getting caught.
Lurenith didnt pause in his eating as C'miel continued to pass the dragonet slices, 'silly thing.'

"I don't mind attention," Merya said thoughtfully, "but I suppose if everyone was staring at me...well, if I didn't know quite what to do I'd be unnerved. But if I was on top of things I can't say it'd be a problem. Why not let people watch your triumphs? It's having people watching me make a mess of things I don't like." She wrinkled her nose. "I try not to let that happen."

"Hasn't learned to laugh at herself yet." Oh, no. Saren was making light of her again. He seemed to enjoy making her look as young and helpless as possible. "That'll come with time."

Merya swallowed her annoyance - Beru growled in her lap and looked like she might lunge for Saren's fingers - and grinned brightly at her self-appointed chaperone. "Why would I care to? I have quite enough fun laughing at you!"

His shocked laughter was gratifying. Better that he found such a neat turning of the tables amusing than that he got angry at the loss of face. "Touché! ...Ah, I think the little green's made her choice..."

"Has she?" Merya peered down at the sands. The dragonet was frozen in place, but she was looking very intently at the crowd of girls. "I think she has... Oh, but the poor love - she's too scared to go over!" Taking a deeper breath and recalling what that sweet Harper boy had said about projection, Merya rose to her feet and called as loudly as she could to the most recent lucky Candidate. "Go on, girl! Rescue your dragon!"

"SQUEEP SQUEEP!" Beru fluttered up to Merya's shoulder, shouting too - it was shrill, but she was doing her best. Whether she was cheering on the dragonet or the Candidate girl was unclear, but she nonetheless wanted them to hear: "SQUEEP! SQUEEP SQUEEP!"

Out of the corner of her eye, Merya could just see Saren giving her a look of mild astonishment - wondering, perhaps, how two little girls could hold such loud voices.

Still rubbing his trod-upon hands to relieve their aching, Kaskel watched more dragons spill from their shells. A handsome blue (Impressed to a girl!), a tough-looking striped brown, and one of the most interesting greens he’d ever seen, color-wise. She was a shy little thing, though. He felt a twinge of anxiety when she refused to come forward, but thankfully Momma spurred her on to find her lifemate. He sighed with relief; no betweening for her!

Up in the Stands, a young woman watched as bonds were formed that would last a lifetime. Her eyes, though she bid them to, could not stay dry after the first dragon hatched. She was a far different person now than she was the last time she’d been in this hot, dry cavern. She couldn’t believe she’d ever been such a skeptic. It was just—

Oh. Emori., tell me what’s happening! Tell me! Or at least show me an image! I want to see this auspicious event! I want to—“

Emori sighed and held her head in her hands. Way to ruin the moment, Inannath, she grumbled with her mind. But she showed her dragon what she could see, as best as she could. It still felt strange to communicate mind-to-mind, but she was slowly learning.

Nelioa quietly watched as the eggs shook and rocking back and forth finally gave way to the dragonets. She smiled as she watched a blue and then a green impress. It was so exciting! She was a bundle of nerves and joy as she watched each small dragonet choose its rider. This was her first time standing, and she wouldnt give up this experiance for the world.

Her eyes darted over to the dragonet that had become frozen in place, her heart melted for it. Poor dear, she could imagine that it was an overwhelming experiance for them. Just fresh out of the egg, bombarded by the sounds and smells. Everything was new to them, other dragonets seemed to handle it better but she couldnt fault that one for beging scared to approche its chosen rider.

Mine, the flitt is getting too close to my food! Glancing up at his brown's complaint, Sovann- S'van- attempted to reassure Galliath that his meat was not at all at risk. There's more than enough for you and your clutchmates. One little firelizard isn't a threat, Gall. Of course, trying to convince Galliath that something was not exactly what he decided it was was somewhat difficult, as S'van was starting to learn. The brown paused in his feeding to eye the firelizard, and for one tense moment, the weyrling thought that his dragonet was going to try to take a swipe at it. Fortunately, the moment passed... just about when S'van put another nice chunk of meat right under Gall's nose. Galliath, the brown dragonet insisted, distracted away from the object of his disapproval by the meat and the need to correct his rider.

Watching each dragon come into the world was amazing. Nothing in the world could bring out this...feeling. It was so....Smiling as the blue Impressed, Dorinelic pinned the feeling. He felt alive. Joy, disappointment, happiness, sadness. So many emotions of the faces of the candidates, riders, even those who were far from the sands and eggs. Watching as the brown Impress, Dorinelic felt a small twinge of pride. Never in his life did could he ever see himself on the Sands. Heck, his whole life he had been told his lot was as a smith, but to know that he was simply worthy to Stand...It brought him joy. Dragon or not, this was the signal of change, for so many.
The shy green final had impressed! Grinning, He clapped his hands and joined in the cheers, his voice filled with admiration. "Good job!"

C'miel clucked his tounge as the only other brown dragonet turned his attentions back to his rider, Toad crawling across C'miels collar to hunch out of sight. "You'd have deserved it, you deadglow." The brown positivly cheeped, watching entranced as C'miel passed another chunk of meat onto Lurenith, the tense moment already forgotten to the flit.
'C'miel, I'm tired and the sand is too hot. ...Dont stop, I'm hungry still,' Lurenith rattled as C'miel attempted to appease the grumbling brown, the large head planted firmly on his lap. "I know, we'll sleep soon, you'll be off the sa-- At least attempt to chew!" C'miel chidded as Lurenith inhaled the meat he had held before the brown.

Make sure that bit's clean, mine, Fuxith demanded, using his tail to balance as he tried to raise up onto his hindlegs to inspect the chunks of meat laid out in piles on the table. Not too much of that white stuff either, it doesn't taste as good.

"They don't roll it in dirt, you know," Zara chided, popping one of the leaner slices of meat into the blue's mouth--but only after he'd given it a glance to ensure it passed muster. She felt so ravenous...was that Fuxith's hunger, or her own? She didn't remember being nearly so hungry before heading onto the Sands.

More, the dragonet prompted, opening his mouth again.

Having finished the urgent task of naming Stalker-Flitt, Quinnel refocused on the Hatching at hand, clapping rhythmically for the Blue’s Impression. She continued clapping quietly even after the applause died down to amuse herself, eyes roving over both Candidates and roaming Hatchlings. She spied a head of ginger hair – strangely familiar ginger hair – and was prepared to wander over to the male Candidates and investigate her discovery when she heard something. She heard a voice, in her head, and it wasn’t her own.

‘ Quinnel, come save Winath! There are people watching me and there are so many and I don't like it and please come now and take me to food.’

Quinnel frowned and looked around, briefly concerned about her mental state before remembering where she was.

‘ I Impressed? I don’t see a Hatchling.’ Hearing a rather loud shout of encouragement from the crowd, she realized that, for whatever reason, her dragon was either unwilling or unable to come to her. Looking forward, she saw a distressed little Green Hatchling sitting on the Sands by her mother, looking straight at her.

“ Lovely dragon!” she exclaimed, clapping happily before threading her way through the crowd. Coming to the dragonet's side, she placed a hand on the pretty Green's damp hide and smiled.

“ Winath, hm? There’s lots of eyes here, yes, but less in the back. The back has food too. Come.”

With that Quinnel let the shy dragonet away, taking the least crowded route to an empty feeding table.

The movement from the flitt caught Galliath's attention once more, and S'van sighed internally. ... Yeah. This was going to be fun, he could just see it now. S'van, he is watching the other eat, Galliath said, his tone full of disapproval. Hooboy. "Yes, yes, I know Gall, but really, you don't need to take offense. It's just a firelizard." Galliath! the brown protested adamantly, and S'van fought off a grin. He could tell that this was going to be an argument of longstanding. It was difficult for him to refrain from using nicknames as a general rule. Nudging Galliath gently, he watched the brown dragonet debate whether the firelizard was worth the time to fuss over.
