Saberlin laughed as she flinched at the cold water. “Sorry, sorry! I guess it was colder than I thought” he apologised; giving her time to get used to the temperature some more. “Ah, but this is nice, isn’t it? The water’s so calm” he remarked, swimming out a bit deeper to catch a piece of interesting looking driftwood floating past.

“Ow!” Jumping as something sharp panged through his tail, Saberlin brought it out of the water to see a small red crab on the end, nipping his tail tip with its big claw. No wonder it had hurt! He dropped the bit of driftwood in surprise.


((That's odd. Maybe she thought that you left or something.))

He laughed softly, looking slightly embarrassed as she unhooked the angry crab. "Yes, I think so. Thank you for saving my tail" he replied, trying to ignore the throbbing end where the claw had pinched it. He pulled her into a quick hug, kissing the top of her forehead lightly before letting go. "I was thinking...what do you say to a race? I was going to ask before the crab got me" he smiled. "Just for fun, nothing serious."

"Alright then, let's swim out to that rock near the centre." he raised a clawed, dripping hand and pointed out to the rock; a granite gray piece of stone encrusted with shellfish, weathered artistically by wind and tide and glistening with salt water. It would have made a good subject for a painting.

Saberlin swam back through the water, closer to shore. He didn't want to make the race too easy. "Our starting point can be somewhere here. Ready..." he began with a grin, waiting for Fern to move into place beside him so they could start.

"Ready..." Saberlin's tail swished in the water, stirring up wavelets. "Set..." there was a small amount of anticipation in the air now. He waited a few extra seconds, just to let it build. "...Go!"

Plunging gracefully forwards, he swam freestyle through the fresh, tingling waves, trying to head in a straight line for the grey rock before them. Saberlin enjoyed swimming in the sea and though he hadn't much practice at swimming he was fairly good at it. Definitely not an olympic athlete, however.

Reaching out, his fingers touched the dark, rough rock glistening with seaspray and Saberlin grinned in triumph, turning to see whether Fern had made it as well.

Seeing no other hand slapping the side of the craggy stone, he looked behind him and saw she was still swimming. Saberlin raised an arm and beckoned her. "Come on, you can make it. Just a bit further!" he encouraged good-naturedly, trying to cheer her on. "Swim like there's something after you!" he chuckled.

((Hey Kyubii, I just recently got some work for thirteen weeks, so I might not be able to post replies as often as I have been. Just letting you know so you aren't waiting around. I'm gonna be working in a cheesecake shop! Lol))

He wrapped his tail round her waist as she kissed him then pressed his forehead affectionately against hers in a very catlike manner, giving a deep, rumbling purr as he looked into her eyes. "I do apologise my flower. Nothing could ever hurt you while I'm around though. I would lay down my life to protect your own"

He apologised, yet there was still a faint tease in his tone as well as something else; an underlying thread that suggested he was dead serious. Letting go of her gently, he leaned back against the rock, resting for a moment before they raced back.

((Sorry if this post is a bit disjointed. XP I wrote a better version the first time up at the library but the internet stuffed up. Computers...

Yeah, I'm enjoying it so far. 3nodding You're on your feet a lot though! The cheesecakes all look delicious. My favourite one is the chocolate mudcake.))

Saberlin smiled as he caught the sound of her sigh, leopard ears flicking slightly. He was glad. It was one of the things he considered most important in their relationship: that Fern and the rest of his family, (though he was yet to meet them), were happy. If they were happy, that was enough for him. He swore he'd do anything to keep it that way.

Getting an idea as they waited for their breaths to come back (he seemed to be full of them today), Saberlin turned and climbed up the rock they were leaning against, wondering what he could see from the vantage point.

"Aha!" he remarked softly. Standing atop the rock, his keen golden eyes fell upon something quite interesting indeed. "Fern, come and see. There are seals sunning themselves on the rocks over there" He crouched down and held out his arm for her, offering to help pull her up. Saberlin knew this was the kind of thing she might enjoy. Maybe she could put them into one of her paintings.
