Lynna gasped as the green came quite close to her, but paired off before she had a chance to really react. Her mother's voice echoed in her mind unpleasantly. Lynna forced the thought away, tears pricking at her eyes. She WOULD be different, she WOULD impress!!

It was strange for Kella to be nice. It was even stranger for the girl to display compassion, or empathy. For the most part, the young girl was completely ensconced in the world of the hatching. Her attention was devoted solely to the eggs and the newly-hatched dragons. But, an odd feeling in her gut made her turn her head. She glanced around, and saw that Lynna looked... well, like she was about to cry.

"Why're you crying? Are you hurt?" Kella asked, taking a few steps to the side so she was standing closer to the girl. Lynna was really the only person that she felt anything even remotely close to friendship with. To see her upset was, well, upsetting.

Oh, wonderful. Ennrik was using big words again. Mal’s nose wrinkled in annoyance, since he knew full and well that Ennrik knew that he wouldn’t understand some of those big words. It was the other boy’s private way of telling Mal to shove off. Which, as a matter of fact, made the ex-Harper less inclined to do that. Mal got the Face, which fully justified the capital letter. Basically it was his own way of telling Ennrik, ‘No. Whatever you just asked, I have no intention of doing. Ever’. In Mal’s mind, he had already abandoned his friend to fester in his own fears before. He wasn’t going to do it again. His mind only barely registered the Brown’s hatching.

But there was no way he could ignore the dragonet’s toddling motions over to Ennrik. Far from being jealous of his friend, a slow smile spread across Mal’s face, especially when he noticed that Ennrik looked like he wasn’t going to throw up all over the place. It was a bit of a pity that the Harper----Junior Weyrling now, he supposed----was the center of attention… hopefully, simply being with the Brown would calm Ennrik down.

“You take care of him, Daramulath. He needs it,” he said in a very quiet voice, only half joking.

Lynna smiled at her friend, blinking away her tears. "Oh," she whispered, her voice catching a little, "Just, you know, my mom didn't even want me here, because she figured I wouldn't impress." She swallowed. "Still, there's...5 more eggs, right? You and I, we'll be flying high by the end of the next turn." In Lynna's mind Kella would impress for certain. Really, that hope made her smile all the more. Without really thinking about how Kella might react, she hugged the younger girl beside her, more to comfort herself, but also to show her camaraderie.

Once again irked by the sound of whispering girls, Lahar found his hazel eyes upon the chattering Kella. This time, though, she was doing less squealing and more comforting. That wasn't so bad, but it was still taking focus from the main event - really, who should care about a crying young one at a hatching? She was nervous, is all, or simply doubting her chances. Still, noticing a glinting of tears in the girl's eyes reminded him of his own stance. There were only a handful of eggs and seemingly dozens of candidates. She had reason to worry - and, perhaps, so did he. No -- it was different this turn. He felt something...and whether it was the confidence of a man or the will of a yet unborn dragon, he'd have to wait and see.

Jahangir heart was racing as he watched one dragonette after another find there bonded and the crowd of candidates became smaller. He clutched his hand tight almost hard enough to break skin from were his nails were digging in and tried his hardest to be happy for those that had already impressed. It wasn't over yet, I still have a chance, became Jahangir's mantra as he watched the last 5 eggs.

Kella frowned. She knew Lynna's mother, and had figured that it was something the woman had said that upset the other girl. But still, it didn't make it okay. The younger girl scowled, scuffing her feet in the sand. "Well, don't listen to her," Kella assured Lynna, forcing a small smile up at her friend. "Your ma doesn't know anything 'bout dragons, just kitchen stuff," she said confidently, her smile growing larger.

Lynna's sudden assurance that they'd both impress elicited a giggle from Kella. "That'd be nice! We could fly away whenever we wanted, just to get away," Kella said, letting her mind wander for a moment. Then Lynna hugged her. That was awkward. Kella just stood there, arms stiff at her side as Lynna assured them both. But she stopped that silly stuff after a moment, and Kella relaxed again.

She turned her body slightly away from Lynna, looking out over the sands at the five remaining eggs. "Wow. It went by fast!" She said, her eyes wide as she looked from one egg to the next. The queen egg was one of the remaining five. The young girl took a deep breath and forced herself to look away from it. She was way too young and little to be a queenrider. Maybe if she were older.. Kella glanced at Lynna and smiled. Maybe one of them would walk off the sands with a dragon today. If one of the pair did, Kella would have bet on Lynna.

Keira heard soft whispers, and knew it came from the group of girls who hoped to be Impressed, jsut as she did. They both were three or fours her junior, but they showed that a life in the Weyr was nothing new, and that any work could be done. Just like she did. Slowly, she walked toward the girls, her eyes still glancing at the eggs that laid like patches of gems in the sunlight. Everyone watched them, a look of fear, and reverence in each pair of eyes.

"You know, it's always good to keep up your hopes, and let your heart beat firm. Remember all the legends, all the stories about the Riders who took on the Thread when they rained upon our homes? Even though there was fear, they were brave." She clutched her hands into fist, smiling rather foolishly at the two. "Always think brave, no matter what."

Riyinn sighed five more eggs, also including the queen. Everyone was on edge for her to arrive. She looked around the grounds before focusing on the few remaining. it was becoming a chore to stand still her nerves were getting the better of her.

She twisted her robe around in her hand to keep from bouncing. the odd blue that hatched from the last egg was more then a show, he gleamed next to his newly found rider and she shivered wishing it was her.

Better late than never? One of the few eggs remaining rocked back and forth, back and forth. The movement was almost hypnotic, as the colors of the Crowned Crane egg blended together, becoming one swirl as the egg itself moved.

Finally it cracked, and there was something sensuous about that as well. People looking at the egg... Well, they felt almost dirty, didn't they?

But the movement of the green that emerged from the Crowned Crane Egg was suddenly upstaged, as the Queen egg finally began to crack and flake off bits, revealing an obviously golden hide.

Angered at being upstaged, the green that emerged charged at the girls, almost running into several as she skidded to a halt. She had found hers, and she would get hers to look at her over any golden lump!

Still snorting her disdain, the green plowed forward into Kallista, knocking her a bit harder than was strictly necessary.

Kallista, you are mine. Your Astarteth is far more beautiful than any Queen could ever be!

Greloren watched as a green and blue hatched, smiling a bit at his correct guessing of their colors. They quickly Impressed and another blue hatched from an egg he'd pegged as a blue. And then a green hatched. Another one he'd been right on! Shards, he was on a roll now!

He heard the gasp from the stands and looked over to see the queen egg starting to crack open. He chuckled as the green panicked and quickly found Hers, as if she was afraid the gold would take the girl away. There were only four eggs left now. One contained the gold, a dragon he wouldn't be Impressing obviously. He had two of the other three pegged as greens... and thus not for him... So his hope lay in the African Wild Dog egg... He had a guess that it contained a bronze.

So... that was his chance. His sole chance, it seemed... unless he'd been wrong about the two eggs being greens...

Faranie had been content to watch the green come out of her egg. She for one hadn't felt dirty at all watching it sway. It was a nice dance, it certainly seemed to know what it was up to. Of course, she'd liked it until it'd nearly run her down. Nevermind that though, the gold! The gold...She could see it poking through the shell, and the crowd swelled then hushed...A queen was about to be born.

The gold's fate was of slightly less matter to Gar, but he couldn't help but stare. The birth of a queen was a rare thing, even in times when thread loomed near. Not every gold clutch gave rise to one, even when paired with bronzes. He never failed to be amazed at the size and regal bearing of the gold dragonets. This one, he expected, would be no different.

At long last Tyven had deemed himself unable to stay awake any longer, and with out a word he rose at a momentary pause. That is, until the gold hatched. Might as well stay for that. As a future possible weyrwoman, he should at least see the lucky lass. Might be he'd find himself taking assignments from her one day.

And Merase? It was a dream come true. What child, especially a girl child at that, didn't dream of seeing the birth of a real queen. She leaned so far forward in her seat, if it hadn't been for her father's strong arms around her she likely would have toppled down into the next row of onlookers.

Reana watched all the hatchings, the expressions on the faces of those that were lucky enough to impress were wondering. While she was happy for everyone, Cil impressing a broze was extra cool. Mentally cheering, she drew her eyes to the Queen, what girl didn't want to Impress her?

It had been easy to ignore her Healer training with the injured, there was too much excitement and she hoped too much to think of anything else. It was to the point she even ignored her burned feet though later she would not forget a salve!

Even though most eyes were now firmly riveted on the little Queen that was emerging so slowly from her egg, there were a few other eggs that needed to hatch. One such was the Tribal Egg, which emitted a proud blue who Impressed to a hold-born lad, and the Bongo Egg, from which a petite green emerged, Impressing to a girl who had come from the Weavercraft Hall.

But the question was, what was in the African Wild Dog egg? And what about the Queen?

Keira looked at the beauty of the egg as it spun a dizzy dance, and broke a part, revealing it's contents. As the dragon charged, she felt her heart beat a little faster, and stepped backwards, not truly wanting to find out how sharp those claws really were. Another bond was made, and she grinned at this. Another girl for her to make sure to remember, as she did each of the other bonded pairs. They could be legends one day. She turned back toward the golden egg, her breath slowing slightly, trying to be calm instead of giddy at the fact a new Queen would be hatched very very soon.

She looked at the mother of the clutch with even more admiration. She was, after all, a mother to many dragons, and deserved so much respect.
