Vlaityn was so absorbed in looking at the world around her, Vlaityn nearly missed his question.

"Oh. Well." Vlaityn thought thoroughly for a few seconds. "I've decided not to hang out home. Mom wanted me to stay close until I was, you know." Vlaityn let the sentence hang where she meant 'married off'. "But I've been thinking about traveling for just a bit. You know. Live. See where I want to lay my roots and work from there." Vlaityn smiled ruefully. Of course, after she found her home, she thought she might go into Healing. Maybe. Or just find what she loved to do.

"I know that sounds terribly cliche and romanticized."

Sezer shook his head in the negative sense, though a serene expression remained on his face. "No, actually, not at all. It doesn't sound cliche. Not really. Nor does it sound romanticized.. it sounds... hopeful." He, too, let his sentence hang in the air. And, unable to think quite right as of late, he had trouble figuring out what Vlaityn meant. As such, it embarrassed, at least on the inside, quite a great deal, for him, that he had to ask the following question.

He cleared his throat. "Ehem, er, what do you mean, precisely..? Until you're, what, exactly?" He did it again, attempting to cover up his apparent ineptness.

Vlaityn frowned and felt a spark of anger at Sezer's question. Well, not at him though.

"My mother," She began slowly. " Thinks happiness comes from not being lonesome. And in her infinite wisdom, thinks it's absolutely best to throw me off into the nearest arms that will catch me and get a ring on my finger." Annoyance at her mother gnawed Vlaityn's insides. "She doesn't care about who I love or anything, she just wants me settled where she can make sure I'm there. So I don't fade away, or something asinine as such." Vlaityn finished with a slight frown before turning apologetically to Sezer. She hadn't meant to rant.

"Sorry, didn't mean to ramble."
PostPosted: Thu Jan 29, 2009 9:15 pm

Sezer waved off her concern, having been quite intent upon her self-named 'ramble' the entire time. "It's not trouble." He said again, his eyes focusing on some far away object. And, for the first time that night, he was not completely focused on the girl on his arm.

'And in her infinite wisdom, thinks it's absolutely best to throw me off into the nearest arms that will catch me...'

'But would it truly be so terrible,' he couldn't help but think, no matter how much he loathed himself for getting so attached and meditative about the distant future, 'if those arms that caught you were mine...?'

"That was how my mother and father met, you know. My father had an arranged marriage to my mother. ..." He cut himself off before he could say more, unwilling to rant. It was really a rather odd thing to say, considering.

"Where they really an arranged marriage? Huh! I guess it's stereotypical of me to assume they were doomed things." Vlaityn smiled sheepishly. She had just been caught up in the moment. "I'm no marriage hater, I think they're beautiful. I guess I'm just....scared." She then thought of Sezer's parents.

"Great things can come from it." With a slight smile, Vlaityn admired Sezer. How many gene pool jackpots had he hit? And so charming and kind. Vlaityn decided against saying anything further, on the whim she had suddenly started to miss Sezer's voice.

'Talk again, please. You never speak of your parents.'
PostPosted: Thu Jan 29, 2009 9:32 pm

Sezer nodded, trying not to appear distant. Though he was beginning to get sucked into his thoughts. He cracked a small smile at her second comment, though. A facial expression which only grew brighter at the sight of her sheepish smile. "Scared?" He echoed, not entirely recognizing his own voice.

He, collecting his thoughts, planned to share with her all he knew. But before he could, he realized that they had some how wandered out to some distant corner of the grounds; he shrugged, noting that the lanterns were still up so they must've been fine. He then spotted a nearby bench and sat on it, silently inviting Vlaityn to join him, as well.

"Yes. My father, Joana, had been taught all his life that pureblood was the only thing that mattered. It didn't matter if he fell in love with a muggle; or a mudblood, pardon the word, if you will, or even a half blood. Nothing, no one was good enough for him. Until his parents meant Carol.
They fell in love with her immediately, she was strictly Ravenclaw, as the Phillips had been since the founding of Hogwarts. Some of our family believe we're related to Ravenclaw herself, you know. I, personally, think it's rubbish. Such awful people couldn't have her blood.
Grandfather excluded, of course."
He seemed to edit, here.
"They were married just after school. They never loved each other; they never acted like a married couple; though they had some document that said they were in love. Rubbish. ... Soon after they were married, mother found out she was pregnant. ... As soon as I was a year old she went to be an unspeakable, her baby son at home be dammed."
He looked at her quite seriously. "I can't ever forgive them, you know. But, that's why grandfather and I have such a strong bond. You see, no one else wanted me. He later told me, just before I left for Hogwarts, in fact, that he'd first taken me in out of guilt. Because he'd been the one to have such a horrid son.
He loves me, though. I know he does.
We just have trouble saying it around my house.
But, my goodness, I must've bored you to tears."
He smiled apologetically, "Excuse me."

"So scared." Vlaityn admitted softly, which was a large step for her.

As they sat on the bench in the cold, Vlaityn forgot all about the dance as she listened to Sezer talk about his parents. Such resentment. It had to hurt. Dear Lord. Just imagine. Left alone by your own mother. Vlaityn nearly shuddered at the thought. She loved children so much.

As Sezer wrapped up his short synopsis, Vlaityn could only stare. He had never opened up about his family much to her before. And it was no wonder. It had to be painful. Almost unconsciously, Vlaityn gentle took his hand and just held it. As for what type of gesture, she wasn't sure. Maybe she felt another embrace would not have so completely showed her thanks at him opening up and the quiet sympathy that such a good person had such a rough start.

"No no no, you could never bore me, Sezer. I would listen to you forever." Vlaityn smiled morosely at him.

Sezer smiled, if not somewhat sadly. "Good to know. When I complain about missing a question on my Transfiguration exams when everyone else in the class missed at least seven, I'll be sure to come find you." He attempted to joke. He noticed her hand in his, just then, more so that she'd placed it there, then, of its volition, it seemed, he gently unhooked their arms and took her one hand in both of his.

"Thank you, Vlaityn. For listening."

A soft, somewhat companionable silence took over the two, then. Until, that is, Sezer felt he needed to speak.

"You shouldn't be scared. When the right guy comes along, you'll know. And, with any luck, he won't make you feel scared. If he's a decent bloke, at all, he'll make you feel just the opposite. Safe, warm, protected. Like nothing, muggle or magic alike, could harm you." He trailed off, silently acknowledging that that was not only how one's significant other was supposedly supposed to make you feel, but, also, how children were supposed to feel in their parent's embrace. He quickly dismissed the thought, however, unwilling to regain the spotlight.

'Everyone's story is worth being told and shared.'

Shaking her head, Vlaityn turned to him. "No, thank you for letting me hear it." Vlaityn refused to break his gaze this time, because she was quite serious in her thanks.

Enjoying the warmth of both of Sezer's hands, Vlaityn contemplated his theory on what being with the 'right person' should feel like. And in such a manner, she began to weigh the different people she knew. Around her other male friends she usually felt normal, somewhat content. Enough to crack a joke or say her thoughts. Her father, obviously, had always seemed like the safest place in the world. Heck, he probably looked it too, being such a large man. But sometimes that safety was overshadowed by that guy back in Michigan. How did he make her feel? Ah, yes. Terrified, alone, and quite like an over-used punching bag.

But what of Sezer? Releasing a mental sigh, Vlaityn tallied up that Sezer made her feel wanted, safe, happy, sometimes giddy, warm, and anything but alone.
So, what did that mean?

That he was the right guy?

Vlaityn suddenly smiled softly at Sezer after what may have seemed to him like a very long pause. "I dare say you're absolutely right." After another short pause, Vlaityn started again. "Thank you for dispelling the loneliness and fear." Almost embarrassed by her statement, Vlaityn turned her attention back to her surroundings.

"Everyone deserves to feel that way, I think." The string connecting such a feeling to good parenting must have stung Sezer a bit. Or at least not escaped his knowledge.

Sezer nodded once, that same sad smile still on his features. Though he felt much like an hourglass at the present moment. Almost as if Vlaityn was gravity, and the essences of his smile were the sand grains. Tick, tock, tick, tock, as gravity pushed down on the sand the sadness fell out and the happiness leaked in. 'Interesting,' he thought, 'to compare her to an hourglass. Keeping in time with the so-called hourglass figure of attractive women, of course.'

Sezer, being himself, had never allowed his eyes to do such acts to innocent females. Even if the school robes didn't exactly make it easy. Oh, yes, he recalled many an evening in the Ravenclaw Boys' dorm, from year four through his present 10-month educational experience, about every other boy in his room complained about not being able to, to borrow their phrase, 'check out the birds'. And, every time they discussed this, he'd read. Every time.

Though he had a feeling that wouldn't be the case again. He might be able to keep up the charade, but he knew he wouldn't be able to focus on his texts. Not really. Not with Vlaityn on his mind.

"I usually am." He told her, smiling just a bit wider, his arrogance seeping through. He blinked, stopped for just a few seconds when she thanked him. But it wasn't so much that she thanked him, as what she thanked him for. "Anytime." He responded honestly, his mind whirring with thought. Had she been feeling such things? Why hadn't she told him? He could've, he would've tried, at least, made it go away so much sooner.

He nodded furtively, in absolute agreement with her statement. "Everyone."

Sezer, seeming to have just come to the realization that Vlaityn seemed oddly distant, a first for her, or at least he thought so, became concerned. His brow knit together and he began stroking her knuckles with one of his fingers.

"Is something troubling you?"

"Hmmm?" Vlaityn questioned slightly when Sezer asked her if something was troubling her. She hadn't been expecting the question, not in the least. Mostly because she didn't know the answer.

Cocking her head slightly, she gave it some thought. Because Sezer deserved a bit more than the average 'Oh I'm fine.' When Sezer asked a question, it was because he generally wanted an answer, not a quieter.

"I don't know." She decided on before correcting herself. "Not in the sense that I don't know if somethings troubling me; there's not. At least, troubling isn't the word for it." Vlaityn nodded slightly to herself more than anything before trucking on. "A few hours ago I had holed myself up in an empty room and was resolutely trying to stay in there, telling myself to pass the time with reading, or candy, or whatever. Anything but the dance. But instead here I am, already danced, sitting with you, and just not knowing."

Furrowing her brow more from thought rather than dismay, Vlaityn squeezed Sezer's hand slightly. She loved his hands. Academic hands. If he never let go, she would be quite alright with it. Physically touching him, even in such a small way, was pure joy.

"I think I rather enjoy it." Vlaityn finished while looking back to him, a slight blush across her face and a laugh threatening to come out and show itself.

Sezer's own brow furrowed, however, after her detailed explanation, he seemed to accept her answer. Perhaps he'd misinterpreted the quiet.

After all, he, himself, was almost notoriously known for being quiet, yet there was almost never anything wrong with him. Or, at least, anything that he let other people see or cared to tell them about.

He took in the explanation resolutely, hanging on to every word and attempting to decipher every double meaning that could have possibly been there behind him. Seeing as that was what he did with everyone else who spoke to him. Except maybe Joel. But it was different with Joel. He'd come to believe him, somehow, when he said if he ever saw Sezer's parents that he'd hex them. It was an automatic response for him, to analyze things. Especially people's words. And with Joel it was also automatic, but it wasn't because he had any less a degree of faith in his best friend. It was more so based on the fact that he was Joel.

Such a conclusion led him to feel guilty. Vlaityn wouldn't hurt him. He'd known her for nearly as long as he'd known Joel. And they had so much more in common. And they were, frankly enough, in a relationship now. He should learn to trust her. He really should. He needed to. He was good at learning. He'd pull it off. ... Somehow.

"You enjoy not knowing?" He inquired, oblivious. Of course, any female would've immediately realized just what she meant, but Sezer wasn't prone to think about such romantic tendencies, and it took his mind a moment. "Oh," He softly muttered in defeat, a tad annoyed with himself that he hadn't known off the bat. The bloody perfectionist that he was.

Though, since he couldn't take back his statement, he merely hoped for the best-case scenario. That she'd laugh. Merlin, her laugh...

As if on cue by Sezer's whim, Vlaityn couldn't help but start laughing softly. "I'm sorry. Really!" She managed through a few last chuckles. How was she supposed to help it that is was darling to watch Sezer's face change from curious to defeated? "I'm just so...so.."

As Vlaityn tried to root around her mind for the perfect word, she had started laughing again. For the most part, she didn't know why, in the name of all things logical, she was laughing, but she was. Just a quiet, joy filed laugh. Maybe at herself and the way she wanted to cling to Sezer, or maybe at the way the night had unfolded from her original plans.

"Happy." Vlaityn shifted her hand slightly and allowed her fingers the chance to explore Sezer's hands as she finally forced out 'happy'. It was the only word that seemed to describe the simplicity and trueness of it all.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 30, 2009 4:34 pm

Sezer smiled in quiet amusement, not at all bothered by her quite random, or, as some might say, quite rude, burst of laughing. He found it, actually, cute. And such a word applied to Sezer, involved with him, rather, even in the loosest sense, was quite a strange thing indeed.

But that's what she was. She was cute. Vlaityn was cute. The way she was attempting not to laugh, no doubt thinking that it might offend him, which it wouldn't, and how her unnecessary apology sounded through laughter. It was all very cute.

He teared his gaze from her and looked around them, at the lanterns, interested to find that the lanterns were no loner many colors. You see, when they'd first come out here they were brilliant shades of singles. A deep blue, a golden yellow, a brilliant red, a mesmerizing green, a rich purple, and still others. And yet now they seemed to all be pink. And what was pink associated with? Love. Brilliant. They were mood-reflector lanterns. Just brilliant.

However, he turned back to Vlaityn when she spoke again. Partly because she spoke and partly because her fingers were doing some very interesting exploring on his hand.

"I'm glad you're happy."
