"I hope it's not too far away." Replied Emris with a smile. Then he coughed awkwardly into his hand, "I mean since in case I needed mroe tools after all..." He started walking back towards the small wooden bridge with the bag slung over his shoulder. "But if I remember correctly as well...it's not too far at all."

Terrie nodded distractedly, thinking about how she was hoping it wasn't too far for a different reason than tool convenience... She took a big bite of her buscuit to keep herself from saying anything that would make her look silly. Would Emris care how far her house was after it was complete? She shook her head, chewing the oversized bite carefully, and pulled out the picture of the house plans to focus her thoughts.

Clearing his head of the pounding thoughts, Emris observed the path they took to get to where Terrie wanted her house. His tail was down and it brushed the top of the tall grass where it grew in patches on untouched parts of the trail. Soon they reached the area where the trees started thinning out and there it was....the clearing for the home. With a small sigh, Emris unslung his pack from his shoulder and started to open it. "I guess we better start with clearing some of this out first." He stated pulling out mini-spade like tools and such.

Terrie finished her breakfast quickly once she recognized that they were close. She smiled at the clearing with the unique tree, and she headed straight over to touch the drooping branches and leaves. But along with her joy, there was a thin cloud over her happiness that had been hanging since breakfast. She tried to push it aside before trotting back to Emris. She picked up a small rake-looking tool and looked at it curiously. "What's this for?"

Smiling at Terrie, Emris pointed to weeds and the leaves that covered the ground. "I thought it might help us if we cleaned up a bit before getting started on anything really serious. And so I thought we could use that to move leaves into piles and maybe even for digging up some weeds. Things like that." He blushed faintly, surely it sounded a bit silly to Terrie. But the foxtaur had wanted to do something, yet at the same time nothing towards really starting on the house.
He continued softly before walking towards a patch of weeds. "Then we can decide where you want the house and such when it's cleaner here and easier to look at as a whole?"

Tilting her head, Terrie looked between the small tool in her hand and the clearing. It seemed like a rather redundant job. Besides, she didn't care at the time if there were weeds. But Emris would know more of what he was talking about than she would. With a nod, she sat down and started scratching at the thick clumps of anti-grass and at the same time making small leaf piles. "I suppose you're right. I wonder how hard it would be to keep the weeds away after the house is built."

"As long as you keep it clear, not hard at all." Replied Emris softly as he quickly started on making a pile of leaves. Moving a distance away from Terrie to work on the other side of the meadow, Emris sighed. Why was he trying to waste some of their time like this? ' I should be already collecting timber and materials for the house and contacting others to help.' Still his mind was heavy with guilt and something else at the thought of the possibility of the home being finished before winter came.

Terrie sat and piled the leaves and weeds on autopilot as her mind wandered. She was excited about this spot. The pretty tree, thick grass, the tiny creek, wild flowers. It was a place of dreams. She imagined the house from the picture, protected from the wind by surrounding trees that allowed a slight breeze from overhead that was warmed by the sun. Next to the creek would be a small garden where she would learn to grow things. Maybe she could get Emris to let her have a peach tree. Emris... She snapped out of the visions and gazed peripherally at the male across the clearing. There was only one thing keeping her from rushing Emris to get the house done, and it seemed to be the sad feeling she got thinking about it being done before winter. Would seperate homes and cold weather keep her from seeing him regularly? She didn't like tromping through cold weather and snow, and doubted Emris liked it much better. They were both foxtaurs after all. With a small sigh, she went back to raking and digging, starting to hum softly.

After what seemed like forever to him, Emris finished tackling the weeds and leaves cluttered around his side of the clearing. His hands were covered in dirt and he could feel the burrs sticking in his tail now. But that really didn't bother Emris as much as how to tackle getting house materials and the such was.
"Market maybe?" He whispered softly to himself as he walked towards the small creek. Moving to the edge of the crystal water, Emris pushed his hands through the icy surface and rubbed them together and watched as the small clumps of dirt started to travel downstream.

Terrie had finally gathered all her small leaf piles into two bigger piles. The weeds were off to one side. Now what was she supposed to do with them? Then she recalled a long ago conversation she'd had with someone about something called mulching. Maybe she could do that! Only... she didn't remember how to do it. She trotted over to Emris at the creek. "What's a mulch pile?" She asked as she dunked her own dirt crusted hands into the creek. With that done she cupped her hands and brought water back to rinse off the dirt and damp leaves clinging to her legs.

Having been absorbed in his own thoughts, Emris hadn't even noticed that Terrie was now next to him. "Oh!" He covered his mouth sheepishly before registering her question.
"A mulch pile?" Emris ran his hands through his hair as he thought. This wasn't really his best area to answer in for he had only recently started gardening. But a small flicker of memory tugged at him. "Do you mean a pile of leaves and such that act as food or nutrients for plants?"

"Sorry." Terrie giggled softly, thinking she had startled him. She watched him think, then pointed at him in an 'ah-ha!' gesture. "That's the thing. Do you think the leaves out here could be used to start one?" She looked over at the piles set around the yard. That'd be a lot of mulch until it broke down enough to be ready.

Following Terrie's gaze, Emris slowly nodded. "I suppose they could be used for that." He finally replied but then frowned. "But how do we go about it? Do we keep it in sacks or wait or what?" He asked actually looking seriously confused.

Terrie looked sideways at Emris, then started laughing. "I don't know. That's why I was asking you." She looked around the yard again before starting to think outloud. "Maybe we should leave some of it out, and put some away. Should we dig a hole or leave it in the piles? Maybe a hole. Will it attract bugs? Spiders? Eww!" She shook her head, then sighed at Emris. "You must have a book on mulching in that library of yours." She said yearningly. It'd be nice to have, but she didn't want to mulch wrong and kill whatever she chose to grow here.

Covering his grin with his hand, Emris listened to Terrie talk. Really how did you store mulch, was it just by using a regular satchel that you kept things like grain and food in? But after she asked him about having a book on it, the foxtaur lowered his hand and blinked. "I don't think I do...."
But suddenly he clapped his hands together, "Wait a second!" Emris smiled triumphantly, "A cattaur gave me their own written book on gardening just sometime ago!"
