Hitsugaya Toshiro entered the grounds of the clan house walking peacefully through the forest path. He sent out a hell butterfly to find Kurai as he walked toward the old tree he found much to his liking.
Climbing the tree and sitting on a familair branch, he waited for her. With much fear in his heart with the news that awaited her. She loved his eyes very much, though she cannot see it, he knew she would be either upset at his injury, or greatly angered because he wasn't too careful during a fight.
Staring toward the clan house, he saw movement inside. Carefully reducing his reiatsu levels, he moved to the other size of the tree.
laying his head on the trunk, he stared up at the leaves that were in mass quantity above him.

Kurai followed the hell butterfly happily, knowing by the scent it carried that it was Shiro. She couldn't help but smile, even when simply thinking about him.
With a wistful sigh, she suppressed her reiatsu as she entered the Shihouin compound. Even though it was her and Hitsugaya's favorite meeting place, it still was dangerous for her to be around the clan. She felt as though she might have been doing Yomiko a disservice by flaunting her cousin's continued efforts to keep her existence a secret from the clan, but her eagerness to see Shiro again overshadowed the feeling.
She 'spotted' him resting against a tree, staring aimlessly into the foliage above. She darted up to him, throwing herself down by his side with her perfect crooked smile.
"Hey," She said, a poor greeting for how excited she was to see him again.

His heart leapt over a mile as he saw his long awaited love. Seeing her made him overjoyed for a few moments.
Though that happiness would not last very long. Staring into her golden colored eyes, a shock of guilt plagued him. Acting his best, he attempted to say, "Hey you..." with the absence of guilt.
His attempt was futile, for she had the ability to see right through him with ease. He debated whether to lie to her or tell the truth, but his lie wouldn't matter even if he tried his best again. He sometimes hated her abilities too see what he feels.

Kurai's brow furrowed in confusion. With a small frown, she took Hitsugaya's face between her hands. "What is it?" She wanted to know, unable to read the expression in his eyes. "What's wrong?" His aura was flickering uncertainly.
There was something about his (left/right?) eye that worried her. She couldn't name it, but there was something almost familiar about it. But she couldn't place it. Her frown deepened.

Reaching up toawrd his face and grasping her hands he let out a deep sigh. She would know if he was lying. "Kurai... I know this might come to a shock to you, but I can't lie to you. Neither will I be capable to... you can see right through me..."
He hesitated before he spoke again. His heart began to pound faster as he managed to summon the courage to say, "I'm... half-blind... in my left eye... it was a complete accident... we didn't know this would happen."
Toshiro felt as if he was tearing her heart to pieces with worry. It made this so much harder to tell her the truth.

Kurai's own blind eyes widened in shock. Her hands dropped from Hitsugaya's face. One fell to her lap, while the other came up to cover her mouth which had become a little 'o' of horror.
After a moment, she lifted her free hand to caress the eyebrow over the blind eye. That's why it had looked so familiar. It looked frosted. Like one of her eyes.
She looked away, after a moment, staring at the grass beneath her. She couldn't find a word to say. How was she supposed to respond? With anger? But it hadn't been Shiro's fault, unless he had done it intentionally in some twisted attempt to get closer to her.
Sadness was dominant. She loved his eyes, and now one was dulled forever.
"How?" She asked hollowly, refusing to look at Hitsugaya.

Toshiro saw how he lost her gaze as sadness began to fill his own heart as she changed her tone of voice. He felt as if he lost her heart at that moment.
He took in a silent breath before he began his story. "It was... in a fight against this girl for a seated position. I was dying... losing too much blood to continue. Due to my stubborness, I refused to give up. Well, Itsuru... wanted to try an experiment. Where he would take over my body in order to win the fight. I was blinded by that word... VICTORY. He was trying to save my life as well. I owe him my thanks for that... His own reiatsu levels were overwhelming to my body and damaged it severly. I guess our bodies aren't meant to fuse together. He told me that warning, and I accepted. We didn't know this would happen. It could've been much worst you know..."
He turned away from Kurai and looked at the trees across the distance. He felt as if he would be asked to leave soon.

Kurai whirled on him, worry for his safety sparking her anger. "How could it be worse? How could you have lost something more precious?" Her muted gold eyes were tormented. "I wouldn't wish my fate on anyone, and here you came so close to losing this gift!"
She covered her eyes, ashamed to show him her tears. "I--I don't want this! I don't want you to be like me... " The rest of her words were unintelligible as the tears came harder.

Hitsugaya grasped her in his arms, he placed his chin on the top of her head and closed his eyes. Allowing her to cry, he realized how much he meant to her.
"Well, I could've died... I would've been... unable to ever be with you again. Seperated from you... for all eternity." He said softly. Squeezing her even tighter into his chest, silent tears began to flow down his face. He couldn't bear this guilt, she didn't deserve this punishment. Why did he even deserve such a magnificent being? He didn't... not after this. Not after chasing his own selfish ambitions for higher power. Placing himself before the woman he truely loved.
He held her silently, waiting for her to stop crying. Silently taking an oath to never hurt her again.

After a few minutes, Kurai had calmed down a bit. Her tears still ran silently, but she was trying her best to stop with soft, hiccupping breaths. She could tell Hitsugaya had shed his own tears--she could smell the salt and feel the moisture in her hair--but she pretended not to noticed.
"..Are you...able to see?" She asked hesitantly. "It is hard?"

Toshiro clasped his hands around her face. Wiping her tears with his thumb, he smiled warmly. "I can still see, it's just harder since I now have a blind spot where. I need to reorganize my tactics in order to win fights... hahaha..." He finished with a fake laugh, attempting to cheer her up. "Kurai... I promise... I won't do anything reckless like that again. Neither will Itsuru... he feels so much worst than me."
