the problem with period boots is that they are either very hard to find, make or are very expensive.

So after trying out pin curls, I decided why not take some pictures of some new (and not so new) steamy acquisitions of mine!

X X X X

Im loving my short cape, boots, and giant skeleton key necklace I got for christmas ;D

@Electric:
good luck with the Edward Scissorhands costume! sounds like its going to be awesome!

OMG I need a good pair of boots like that that could pass as period. Except you know, for men. biggrin

well, sir
mine are actually just cowboy boots! lol (and were around $100... though they can get really expensive)

they are from this company
they have other boots besides the cowboy styles too

i love the pointy toed cowboy boots haha

I wish I could wear boots, but I've got big wide man-feet. xp

Seriously, I have a hard time wearing normal shoes...

I only have one pair of boots, but my boots were God given to me, because I'm special. I got my mid calf Docs at Goodwill for $20, and when I bought them they were about 90% in good condition, a few white marks here and there, but that's it. The reason I say they were God given is because for the longest time I wanted authentic Dr Martens and knew I couldn't afford them, and so far I've had these for 2 years and they still are lasting me, and still in decent condition.

Sorry, I'm limited currently on steampunk clothing. I'm accumulating more though.

They certainly are grand!
My goggles, unfortunatly are rather hard to see through, and not that comfy.. but they look nice around my neck~

Those will look great when they are painted up!

@Agent_Dax:
The problem with that is if I wanted to do Victorian themed I'm not sure they'd work. What do you think? This always happens when I do costumes. Finding good shoes is the hardest part!!!

@Xeigrich:
I'm in the same boat as you, brother. I wear a USA size 12 or 13, and I have to wear "skater" shoes because of the width. It makes it a real pain in the a** to shop for shoes because most skaters are apparently young teens with feet the size of high-born Chinese women. They never have my size!

(I checked my local costume store and found this pair that was supposibly going with an aviator costume. Bought em for only 7.95$ mrgreen )
Unfortunate thing, is if I wear them for long periods of time, I wind up getting a headache. sweatdrop
Since I'll sooner or later be wearing them on a moped, I'm still debating if I should replace the back with a leather strap.

Wow, you really ARE in the same boat as me. Every pair of shoes I own is either Vans, Airwalks or off-brand skater shoes. I have some Sketchers slip-ons that fit great but they're a little long, and I have some velcro sandals that fit decently. Lucky for me though, I can usually find skater shoes in my size (which is really 12 but sometimes I do have to get 13). Unfortunately for me, though (don't know if you're the same), I'm almost completely flat-footed and a lot of skater shoes like Vans come with built-in arch support, and if I wear them to work or when I go out somewhere, it hurts like all hell by the end of the day, so I stick with Airwalks when possible. And it doesn't help that I don't have a car so I do a lot of walking and standing around.

Lol, everything you just said I relate to. Except for the flat-footed part. You should really look into getting some arch-support corrective inserts. My father is flat-footed and if you don't take care of yourself then later in life you'll start to have problems, especially if you are on your feet a lot.

Edit: sorry for the thread jack

There, finally got around to take some pictures. At night. In a badly lit room. With my delayed-action shutter release. So please bear with the quality.

And, please, PLEASE note that I'm not as terribly fat as that jacket is making me look - darn that thing, I look perfectly well in my regular aviation jacket - but that one was a bit TOO Dieselpunk for this character. xp

(And I hope with that it's clear why I'm in DESPERATE need of goggles...)

Nisha those are lovely!
especially the pistol...is it real?
PostPosted: Sat Feb 14, 2009 5:02 pm

My thanks, Tok! 4laugh
The pistol is just a (non-functional) replica, but it's one of my favourite living room decorations. Sadly, the pictures don't show the pretty ornaments on the far side, but I'll try to take a better picture of it tomorrow.
