Kenya smiled in understanding, "I'm Kenya, it's nice to meet you. Most of the other bodies were burned on the funeral pyre, but I'm sure none of the other soldiers would mind if you buried her. She is your mother after all. Come on, I'll help you find a place where the soil is soft enough to dig a proper grave."

If only my brother could have recieved as much she thought sadly to herself. She closed her eyes tightly, willing the thoughts of her beloved sibling's corpse rotting away on the battlefield.

After Kenya offered her help, Avalon felt so relieved. She could breathe again. She smiled at Kenya and for the first time in too long it had a glimmer of something genuine in it. "Thank you so much," she said with a deep gratitude.

Then Kenya was so overcome with grief that Avi felt just a little less grief for herself and made room for warmth for this young woman. She was broken too, though she fought hard to hide it. 'Just like me...' Avalon called her mother's pegasus to carry the body of Raziela. Once her arms were free, Avi hugged Kenya and let out a sob.

"Sorry, I'm dirty, but you looked so sad and alone. Me too, we all are," Avi sniffed as she stood back. She gained control of herself again and wiped the tear off of her face. "Thank you..."

Kenya gave her new friend and thankful smile, and nodded, "Indeed we are..." she looked around and sighed, then turned back with a slightly goofy grin, "I think when we are all finished setting up a more permanent settlement, then we should have an army-wide group hug."

She was mostly kidding, but it did express a need they had. They all needed to know that others were there for them. That no one was alone, and no one needed to be. That with each other, they would survive this long, cold winter.

"I think I know a place we could bury your mother," she suggested, "There was a small patch of trees not far back the way we came, and next to it was a nice little hill. With a bit of work, we should be able to dig through the frozen earth. And then maybe we could build a small memorial. It wouldn't only be for her, but for everyone who has died fighting this war," Kenya's voice sounded hopeful. She wanted to move on. The future was bleak right now, sure. But she didn't intend for that to last...

"A group hug sounds like the best thing in the world," Avi said with a small smile. It felt good to laugh, to smile, to know there were others who were there with her. Andra was always there, true, but another human.

"The hill sounds perfect. If we're going to build a memorial we should probably let the others know. I'm sure they'd love to help," Avi suggested. She too needed to move on. She was sick of the death, the fighting, the sadness, the pain. She used to think war was a glory-filled enterprise from the stories her mother would tell her; tales of valiant soldiers who gave themselves up to save the rest, doing something for your country in the presence of comrades, the campfire tales. They were only half truths. Her mother had been omitting the grief of losing a friend, a mother. Breaking out of her reverie, Avi spoke to Kenya again.

"I don't think I saw the hill when I came, where is it?"

"It's not too far...I don't think," Kenya scratched her chin a little, "I was walking near the edge of the group, and that's how I saw it. One sec."

She climbed up a pile of crates full of supplies and looked around, and then said, pointing, "It's that way. Maybe a mile from the camp, and there are some trees behind it," she jumped down easily, and stood in front of Avi again, "It probably would be best to take others with us if they're interested. There's safety in numbers, after all."

Melee chuckled and handed him his scarf back. "I think you might want this back. Can't have a good solider get a cold." She did not really need it, the rum she had drunk kept her plenty warm and quite pleasantly buzzing. She giggled girlishly and stood, grabbing a stick. She walked closer to the fire and poked it. She giggled again as she prodded it a few more times and threw the stick in. Slowly she began adding more wood, making the fire rise.

"Fire is truly an amazing thing. In one sense it's a God send. Saves you from getting sick and protects you from the bitterness of snow and ice." She heaved a particularly large piece of log into the dancing embers, "But in another sense, it is one of the most destructive elements. Able to burn a person alive and leave them unidentifiable and able to cause a nation-wide famine in just a sense of hours." She sat down next to Maverick but missed the log slightly and fell backwards. In the snow she lay, looking up at the sky and laughing harder then she had in months. "I think I drank too much."

Maverick watched the girl and began taking a few puffs frm his cigarette. He sat in a direction where the wind would blow the smoke away from Melee.

"I used to be an entertainer in Wispen. Me and my friends were living a normal civillian life until we got recruited off the streets for some emergency. All the ones able in our neighborhood was drafted. Some of which are probably dead or captured by now...I watched my bandmates die in front of me...We were gaurding the main gate. We fought off the first two waves pretty well, we all tasted blood for the first time, and it was the best show we ever put on!" Maverick laughed slightly. "But then, the other two waves of attacks looked grim. Most of the more experienced soldiers with us were badly wounded or dead. Shifter was making some kind of joke...and all of a sudden his head gets taken off by a spear...right in front of me...All of us were furious and then Randz ran toward the army with sword in hand....I tried to stop him but Drave pulled me back and we watched as Randz's body exploded in arrows...The bastards...Drave tried protecting me until the enemy were already coming into Wispen...At least he died a quick death..."

"I have a bad feeling about being out here in the open." Maverick noticed a lot more people in the camp now. What if they were followed? He knew they had to move fast and that the remainder of the army had stayed in this position too long.

"Where the hell are they?" He asked himself wondering about the few scouts that had been sent.

"Melee, you are safe here for now, but I'm afraid in the longrun things are going to get really dicey...."

((Sorry for the longness, but there was nobody typing with me so I went ahead and scouted for us, hehe.))

Rena, being apart of that scouting group who went ahead, had scouted the majority of the area, which narrowed towards the mountains/canyons meant for their new refuge. Her and the soldiers were determined to reach their destination in one piece and to later gather the rest of the camp when it is safe.

Rena's eyes were blurred and she was feeling light headed. She glanced over at their soldiers; one of which had a face strikingly all too familiar. She gasped in disbelief stumbling towards the young man. Rena gripped his shoulder and squinted her eyes to get a better look. That soldier was immediately startled. "Is everything allright, sir?" he inquired, confused. Rena was choked for words. It wasn't him. She began to whisper, "I hope you're alright," intending the message for another. Of course, the soldier couldn't make out her words so he slightly leaned down to listen; and just as he did so, over his right shoulder, Rena spotted a couple of dark figures crouching in the distance.

In that instant, she alerted and pointed in the direction as to get the others' attention. She instructed that no one was to attack, at least, until they had clear visuals. But as she led them towards the distant shadows, the figures had gotten up and began to run in the opposite direction. That's when somebody recognized a certain symbol on the strangers' backsides; it was definately that of the opposing army. "Quick, we mustn't let them escape!" Rena shouted. The soldiers ran passed Rena and towards the two enemies. Rena was forced to stumble as an arrow came out of seemingly nowhere and grazed the side of her arm.

One of the two enemies was then striked down by a ranger's arrow and the other was nearly out of sight. That's when in one swift motion, a soldier skillfully threw a knife lodging it into his/her back. The enemy scout fumbled to the ground and was soon after covered by snow. The wind was beginning to pick up. So it was best for the scouts to pick up the pace towards the canyons to check out that location. But once at the canyons, everything seemed fine. So when satisfied that they were relatively safe, Rena gathered a couple people and began to head back to the temporary camp. She wasn't sure if it was completely cleared out but for now, the path was good to go and the risk of a storm was too worrisome to risk scouting any further. As she left, the remaining troops continued to scout the canyons for any foes or anything else that may help them survive.

Melee looked up at Maverick for a moment. She could see the way he was reliving that fight in his head as he told her. Tears stood in her eyes. So many people whose lives had been uprooted and whose views had been jaded.

"I know." She wrapped her arms around her knees, "Thank you, by the way. I," she paused to think, "I would probably be dead right now with out the Wispen army's help and your help. " She brought a hand to her head and placed it lightly on her wound, "I think I was attacked on my way up this direction. I can't even remember where I was going." She let out a small, sad laugh.

Suddenly, she felt the urge to sneeze. She rubbed her nose a few time but to no avail. She tried to cover her nose and mouth as she let out a very powerful sneeze. Flames shot forward, adding to the already roaring fire and melting a small amount of snow around her. Her glove caught and she waved it in the air frantically, trying to put it out. "Oh no, no not again!" She shoved her hand in the nearest pile of snow and exhaled.

"All right," Avalon said, looking in the direction Kenya pointed. She couldn't see, so she climbed up on the crates with Kenya. Then she saw it: a peaceful little hills surrounded by dark trees that would be beautiful in the daylight.
"It's perfect," Avi said.

Andra stood nearby, looking in the same direction. She seemed a bit confused, so Avi hopped down and pulled down Andra's large head to her level. "See that hill over there?" Avalon said, pointing at the hill. "We're going to bury her there, Imoto. That's where we're burying mother." Andra's eyes shone a bit, showing her understanding. The pegasus already seemed like she understood.

"Well then, I guess we should tell Amos or Jericho," Avi said to Kenya. "Or anybody else that would want to help."

"I think they might be too buisy with taking care of the army. I haven't seen them recently," Kenya murmerd, looking around, "But it wouldn't hurt to look around for some others to join us."

The shaman looked around a little, not sure where to start. Flux jumped from her arms and landed in the snow. The little black cat began cleaning himself, as he waited for his master to move.

"Huh... Yeah. Do you know anyone in particular?" Avi asked. When the small black cat jumped into its master's arms, Avi smiled. "That's one adorable cat you've got there," she said. "Anyways, as for where to find people we could just invade one of the campfired."

Andra and the pegasus figeted behind her. They wanted to move. The pegasus was getting a bit frisky with the corpse on her back.

"I haven't seen anyone in awhile," Kenya admitted, "I guess we should just look around, and hope we find someone. If we don't, we could always have one of the animals be a look-out."

It was almost a silly suggestion, but all the animals seemed pretty smart. She trusted Flux with the job the least since he would easily be distracted by birds and mice and whatever else was scampering about in the snow. But he might show some responsibility if he really needed to. Kenya wasn't sure, since she had never had to rely on him like Avi had on her wyvern, or her mother had on her pegasi.

Kenya shook her thoughts from her head, and smiled, "Shall we go, and see if anyone's around?"
