While Riza's Dragonair was airborne there wasn't too much Kay and her Weepinbell could do, but the girl knew she couldn't just give up, Lady Erika would never forgive her for it! "Weepinbell, use Growth!" she called. That way, when it was their turn to strike, they could hit harder. They would have to slow the dragon-type down first, however.
So confident was she that she'd win this hands down, Riza was hardly even paying attention to the fight as she watched Selena instead. The Snivy was sitting in a patch of flowers, weaving a crown of flowers. How the young Pokemon knew how to do such a thing was a mystery to Riza, and she looked over as she heard a cry from Faustus, just in time to see the Dragonair speed down and slam his tail into the surprised Weepinbell. 'Faustus really isn't the shy and timid Dratini he used to be,' she thought fondly, already deciding that he'd be a part of her next contest battle.
"Weepinbell, quickly! Use Acid before it can fly away again!" Kay called. She knew that dragons resisted a lot of attack types but she was sure poison wasn't one of them. Looking drastically weakened from being hit, Weepinbell's eyes narrowed as his large mouth gaped open and he sprayed out a gross looking, yellow liquid all over the Dragonair's long body.
Faustus gave a cry that sounded almost like a whine, shaking himself as he tried to negate the pain from the stinging acid. 'Time to end this,' Riza thought, already plotting out the next path she would take through the trees. "Faustus, Dragon Rage." His wing like ears fluttering slightly, Faustus moved forward, already opening his mouth as the blue and purplish flames were blasted forward at the already weakened grass-type. Kay recalled her defeated Pokemon, unable to think of anything to say to the dark haired girl and simply ran off. Riza recalled her Dragonair and nodded to Selena. "Let's keep going, that gym leader has got to be around here somewhere." * * * * * After getting dressed and returning her now wavy hair back into its usual long ponytails, Katie packed up all of her things and headed down to the lobby to turn in her keycard. She still felt a little tired from yesterday's events and she checked her pokedex as she went to the little restaurant area to get breakfast for herself and all of her Pokemon. 'Hmm, Noa shouldn't be that far off evolving, that is if she wants to,' she thought looking over at the Staravia as she was busy pecking away at her food. Every now and then she and Genki would glare at each other, and Katie could only assume they were daring the other to make the first move so that way they wouldn't get in trouble for it. 'No doubt about it, she'll evolve as soon as she feels that...spark or whatever." She smiled over at Kord as the Electabuzz was enjoying a healthy serving of fruit, and the electric-type gave her a thumbs up. The rest of breakfast went by without incident.
Though she knew she'd regret it later Katie had put off contacting Mai to let her know she'd arrived safely in Veilstone, as she wasn't sure she really wanted to explain to her new boss about her failure, no, her utter refusal, to steal an egg from that daycare center. As though reading her mind however her phone beeped with the indication of a new message and she gave a little squeal, causing an older man who happened to be walking by with a Growlithe to give her an odd look. Muttering an apology, Katie took her phone from her pocket and checked it, biting her bottom lip in worry. It was a false alarm apparently though, as the message was from Kilik, along with an attached photo of what appeared to be his newly evolved Monferno. "Hah, I told him it wouldn't be long," she laughed, showing the photo to Genki, who cheered and did a backflip, obviously happy for his fellow fire-type.
Feeling a bit cheeky herself, Katie turned to Kord. "How do you feel about striking a pose for me?" she asked the Electabuzz. "We can't let Kilik get away with one-upping us like that, now can we?"
"Elebuuuu," Kord laughed, shaking his head. He took a few steps back from his trainer and flexed his powerful arms, still marveling at how strong he felt now. He let out a loud battle cry as electricity rippled across his muscles and Katie snapped the perfect photo, Kord looked great!
Grinning as she opted to send a message right back to Kilik, she attached the photo and added a little message of her own:
"You're the one who'd better watch out!" was all it said, along with her initials, K.L.M. She also added a little floating heart icon and then hit send, watching her own little Starly icon flutter off the screen to signal the message had been delivered.

Ben watched the Pidgeotto appear and immediately recognized the bird's Sand Attack. Pikachu buried his face against the blast, but quickly recovered as Ben called out for a Quick Attack. Pikachu sparked readily as he dashed around the floor, trying to confuse his enemy as to which direction he was attacking from before he zipped up in a powerful leap toward the large bird. Pidgeotto was strong, but hopefully Pikachu's speed could throw the odds back in their favor.

Both Leon and Muuma scoffed slightly as the Machop avoided her Psybeam. He did not want these preliminary battles to drag out. The girl commanded her next attack and then dove into another small speech. As the Machop began to move, Leon cut the girl off (although it wouldn't surprise him if she continued talking anyway). "Move, use Confuse Ray." However, the Machop had already closed in on his Pokémon. Muuma cried out in a mixture of anger and pain, and though Leon's expression did now show much more than intent focus, he was disappointed. Muuma quickly regained herself and the necklace-like orbs around her neck began to glow. The big orb in the middle glowed the brightest as the others shot out glowing yellow orbs at the Machop.

"Rattata, use Quick Attack -- oh, wait!" the kid yelled, making everyone flinch at his raised volume. He stared very seriously at Jett. "My name's Donnie. It's nice to meet ya." He paused, and then glanced at the Mouse Pokemon. "Okay, you can use Quick Attack now." With a slight nod, the purple mouse was speeding forward, his image blurring. It wasn't the fastest Quick Attack Jett had seen; it must be a younger Rattata, or one who had just learned the move. Good. It would be a good battle for Viy, then.
"Let's try out your Twineedle," the raven-haired boy said breezily, and the Venipede did nothing in return. Once the Rattata reached him, however, he twisted so that the impact wasn't full-on and he was not knocked back. Just as he'd expected, the mouse stopped moving right after the attack was executed, leaving his flank open. The centipede's feelers glowed and he struck the Rattata with one and then the other so quickly that it seemed they were striking at the same time. "It's nice to meet you, Donnie," Jett finally replied off-handedly, smiling all the while. "I'm Jett, and this is Viy. Your move."

Tessa was undeterred by the interruption, carrying on in her speech perhaps more passionately than before. Despite not showing it, she was irritated by how rude this boy was being. He wasn't listening to her at all. She was pleased to see that her Machop's Payback had struck, however, and whatever irritation and ill-will she felt towards the boy dissipated in favor of focus. At least he was paying attention to the battle. Sometimes, that was more than enough!
The girl opted to say nothing, trying to see if Machop would know how to dodge the Confuse Ray attack. Instead, he was too busy showing off, backflipping before he landed, to notice the oncoming attack that struck him. Immediately, the Fighting-type swayed, blinking furiously. "All right," the battle girl said coolly, "use Rock Tomb, then." While he had heard the order correctly, Machop was confused as to how he was supposed to carry it out. Had he done this attack before? Uncertainly, the Superpower Pokemon stared at the ground before slamming his face into it, figuring that was how he was supposed to break up the rock for Rock Tomb. Talk about hurting itself in confusion. Machop came back up even dizzier than before, and Tessa glared at Leon. He would not make a fool of her like this!

Kilik placed his hands behind his head as he strolled out of the Center, whistling a jaunty little tune to himself. Cable stomped heavily behind him, casting a gaze at a few other trainers as he walked out. The boy let out a yawn and dropped his hands to his sides. "Alright so, the Gym is that way!" He pointed ahead and started his trek towards the building. Though, unfortunately, he was met with disappointment as he went to open the door. Due to technical troubles inside of the Gym and the amount of recent challengers, it appeared Roark was taking a break. The boy crossed his arms over his chest and sighed heavily. All that training in the mines for nothing! Well, it wasn't all for naught. At least Monferno had managed to evolve from it. It wasn't totally worthless. "Well, shoot." Kilik groaned, taking off his Poketch to check the map. However, his eyes were met with a little note blinking in the corner. His eyes lit up and he grinned ear to ear. It was from Katie.
Attached was an image of an Electabuzz, strutting its stuff and wrapped in electricity. "Haha, no way!" Kilik cheered, showing the picture to Cable, "Kord evolved! Can you believe it!" The boy must have looked rather silly cheering in front of a temporarily closed Gym, but it was so exciting to see. Even Cable pumped his arms up and cheered with a shower of sparks. "That's really incredible. And look!" He was practically shoving the device into Cable's eyes, "She put a little heart at the end. I feel SOOOO..." he turned on his heel a bit, then paused and stood for a moment, looking at the message. "Strange. That's what I feel." Certainly it was an emotion that he hadn't felt well up in him for quite some time. He certainly felt elated at the heart, but it couldn't have been anything more than a friendly gesture, right? Kilik pondered a moment, biting the inside of his lip then turning to the Map application. Maybe it meant something more, maybe it didn't. Nothing he would be able to figure out without asking directly.
Cable lifted his trainer up on to his shoulder, the hulking electric beast heading back towards the Center from where they came. He looked up at Kilik from time to time who was very engrossed with his Poketch. Without the Gym behind open, where would they head? Sinnoh was not a region either of them were clearly familiar with. Kilik had never needed to consult a map for anything before. He set his trainer down when a telltale "Aha!" escaped his lips.
"We can go north," the boy explained, "up the Cycling Road to Eterna City. There's a Gym there too," he laughed. "And hopefully this one isn't temporarily closed." He knelt down in the dirt and pulled his backpack off. Inside was his collapsed Mach Bike. It had been quite some time since he'd used the thing and it showed; when he took it out and began to assemble it, the joints all creaked. "Yeesh. Would it kill me to get some exercise?" He laughed, hopping on. Before pedaling off, he recalled Cable into his ball. If the climb up Cycling Road was anything like the one in Kanto, he was barely prepared. Uphill bike rides were always grueling. He rode swiftly up a muddy hill and down some steps that lead into a check-in station. A kindly wave and nod from the lady behind the counter granted him access to the road. Northern bound to Eterna!

The Ember hit true, and the Bellsprout tried to shake the flames off as they died down, already looking to be in very poor shape. It glared at Train's Growlithe and raised its leafy arms (which would have been pretty cute to see, actually, except that Train felt bad about all the singes and scorch marks now covering it…) and began shaking them a little, sending out a bluish powder drifting across the battlefield.
"Oh, watch out!" Was all Train could really think to say, but that powder was moving kind of fast, and she could see her Growlithe already swaying. He sank to the ground and was very obviously asleep. The girl groaned. They could have totally had this battle in just one more shot! "Hey! Growlithe! Wake up!" She yelled, trying to rouse the Fire-type, but to no avail. The Bellsprout maybe kind of smirked if that was possible, and a couple of vines shot out from it again. This time, however, they grabbed the sleeping Puppy Pokémon and wrapped around him, squeezing tightly on the sleeping Pokémon and holding on firmly.+=+=+=+=+ Muuma smirked, and if Leon had been just a bit more light-hearted he definitely would have laughed. Still, a faint smirk was apparent on his face as well. "Why don't you try another Psybeam," He commanded his Pokémon. That Machop was going to be much less agile this time.
The girl--Tessa, he had still managed to catch--seemed much quieter now. Muuma's eyes glowed once again and another beam was directed at the now disoriented Superpower Pokémon.

"You must think you're so cool!" Donnie exclaimed, aiming an accusing finger at the older boy. "With your weird bug! Well, guess what! My Rattata is my weakest Pokemon..." Rattata, sides still stinging from that Twineedle attack, looked back at his trainer, appalled. "S-sorry, but it's true! I just caught you like. An hour ago. But anyways, if that Pokemon is all you have, then you're outta luck..." The silence that followed would have been more ominous if the boy's threat was more intimidating and if his Rattata squeaked impatiently, looking back to him for orders. "Oh. Right. Um, Tackle!" Not like there was much else to choose from. Rattata turned back towards Venipede, giving his best hiss before darting forward.
"Defense Curl." Viy curled back up into a ball again, defenses raising just as the purple mouse nailed him with a Tackle. The silent ball just rocked back and forth awkwardly. Jett looked back up at Donnie, his tone not unkind. "What a coincidence, Viy's my newest Pokemon, too! I can't wait to see what the rest of your team is like." He neglected to mention the major level gap there was between Viy and Naja alone, and then there was Naja and the rest of his Pokemon on top of that. Instead, he inclined his head towards the two small Pokemon again, as it was Donnie's turn to attack.
"Right, thanks," the young, sandy-haired boy said, biting his thumbnail thoughtfully. All of a sudden, choosing between Tackle and Quick Attack was very, very difficult. So instead, he opted for neither. "Tail Whip, go!" The Mouse Pokemon shot his trainer a look, but when the order was repeated a bit more forcefully, he turned around, wagging his tail at the ball. Could that scary bug even see him? Nonetheless, his defenses dropped, but the Pokemon remained curled up tight. "Why's your Pokemon still like that? Is it scared or somethin'?"
"I think it's just intuition," Jett replied, brows furrowing. He was going to command it anyway, but what would Viy do if he ordered something different instead? Deciding not to test the centipede right now, he looked back at the Rattata and crossed his arms. "Rollout."

Tessa's fury burned all that brighter when she could feel that boy and his Pokemon's derision from across their (admittedly small) makeshift battlefield. Did they think it was funny? Well, she might have too, but it wasn't funny when it was her Pokemon they were dealing with! "Machop, snap out of it!" she growled, hands balled into tight fists at her side. "Don't let them dishonor you like this!" It was futile; instead of understanding that his trainer was referring to his actual opponents, Machop looked to the shadows, perhaps under the illusion that dozens of other Pokemon and their trainers were mocking him. This distraction was enough to get him nailed by the Psybeam, and the Fighting-type cried out in pain, stumbling back.
The psychic attack did nothing to help his confusion; in fact, it only served to enrage Machop. He let loose a roar of fury (as furious as a roar coming from a Machop could sound, anyways) and beat at the ground. "That's the spirit," Tessa said, smirking up at Leon. "Show 'em what your Rock Tomb attack can really do." As if to clarify, she pointed up at Muuma. The Superpower Pokemon beat at the ground more, his fists cracking open the tile enough to allow him to pull out a sizable boulder. Ignoring the mocking laughter of the illusions from the shadows, he hurled the large rock right at the Misdreavus, grunting with the effort. That would show them, all of them!

Well, it seemed that Tessa was now completely focused on this battle as well, as her small speeches seemed to have ceased. "Avoid it, Muuma. Counter with Shadow Sneak." Leon felt prompted to urge her to dodge this attack after her failure to avoid the Payback, but it was not as though he thought any less of his beloved Misdreavus.
The Ghost-type, eager to please, rocketed out of the way, and the boulder narrowly missed her. Any other person may have wondered about the potential for that rock to hit another unsuspecting trainer in this dark gym…
Muuma sank a bit lower to the ground, moving out of the small circle of light surrounding the two trainers, and for a short moment nothing seemed to happen. However, from somewhere behind Machop, the shadow began to creep--well, more flew--across the floor towards the Pokémon, and would merge with his before springing up to attack the Pokémon if all went well.

After a bit of a lengthy speech from Nurse Joy about how not to create more work for her after she just got done fixing his team. Assuring her that he was done battling for the day he thanked her once more and sat at a table in the waiting room with his team out.
The four pokemon were busy stuffing their faces full of pokemon food. Battling made one hungry after all. Kressen simply sat there and watched them grinning as the food simply vanished in a matter of moments. "You guys sure know how to pack away the chow. That's good. A hearty appetite shows you're healthy. Just don't try taking each others food." He looked at Gigas who looked down at his feet. They were suddenly very interesting at the moment.

Kasiya sipped her orange juice thoughtfully, almost wishing she hadn't already beaten Brock before. A smile found its way to her lips as she recalled that match again. It had been Ariel's day in the spotlight, that was for sure, though she'd never forget the pouty, unhappy looks that her Pikachu and Growlithe had worn, completely pissed off that they were missing out on a Gym Battle. She made a face at the mention of Mount Moon, however, as things never seemed to go well whenever she went there. She'd never forget the feeling of nearly being buried alive, and it was one moment where she could truly say that her Pokemon had saved her life. The mention of Rustboro Gym, however, made her think. That one certainly sounded familiar. "Stone Badge, nope. Don't have that one, but that doesn't sound like a bad idea." If anything, it was sort of cute that they were not only collecting badges from their home regions, but also each other's, and the blonde felt a slight twinge of competitive spirit course through her as she realized that he still had a few more badges than she did.
Her attention focusing back to Mike, she giggled as his arm found its way around her, and she pretended to resist for all of half a second as she looked down at her outfit. She'd thrown on Mike's plaid shirt from the night before as well as her black shorts, but she'd forgone shoes and socks. "Well, I was in a hurry, and I couldn't go out there all naked and stuff!" she said, obviously a little embarrassed as she played with the lowermost button on her shirt. "This was the easiest thing to throw on. And I almost couldn't find my underwear- wait, Surge?" she asked, cluing in on what he'd just said. "When did you beat my dad?"
=-=-=-=-= As Jade looked around, taking in all of their surroundings like she always seemed to do, Jaeshan realized in that moment that she wasn't so much just observing everything as much as she was looking for something. Or someone specific. He nodded and followed her as she lead him down the hallway, and he let out a silent chuckle when he realized the room she was taking them too had been right next door to the one he'd been staying in. It was definitely quieter in here, and the blond nodded, wringing his hands around the water bottle almost nervously as he sat down on the bed, now watching the raven-haired girl pace back and fourth. This anxious, on-edge side of her was completely new to Jae, but he sat there quietly and patiently, his blue eyes following her every movement until she positioned herself right in front of him.
Admittedly, he wasn't quite sure what to expect to hear, so when Jade admitted that she was a runaway he blinked, the term bouncing around inside his head for a moment. He'd always suspected that she was running away from something but he didn't say anything; only nodded to show that he understood (or, at least was trying to) and was eager for her to continue. He listened attentively as she spoke, almost able to see the story unfolding in his mind right in front of him. She never really specified what kind of group this was, but it was easy to pick up on that it had some pretty strict rules, and it was a pretty safe bet to assume that they didn't take too kindly to runaways. Just what was she a part of? Some sort of foreign mafia or something? After the day he'd had, nothing seemed impossible. He tried not to stare as she sat down beside him on the bed, but it was difficult to avert his gaze. He could feel the sadness in her voice, and he wanted desperately to take that sadness away from her, but he just didn't know how.
Her next confession, however, brought a smile to his face, and he felt his heart flutter a little as she once again took his hand. Nothing could prepare him, however, for the strange, ecstatic feeling that seemed to shoot through him like an arrow when she said his name. It sounded so right; so normal. "I know it's not really the same, and hell, it probably doesn't even count, but these past days spent with you have been the best ones I can remember." He chuckled a little, hoping to spark at least a smile from the dark-haired girl with his utterly lame and stupid little dig at himself, but when that failed he stood up, his gaze never leaving her as turned and knelt down in front of her. He could clearly see the fear in her eyes even without her admitting it, and he felt a protective instinct kick in, just like when he'd stepped in when she was being menaced by that jerk back in Jubilife City, or when he'd dove into the river to save her without so much as a second thought for his own safety. Very slowly he raised his free hand and pushed some of the dark hair from her face. "Hey," he said simply, his expression turning serious. "I won't let anything happen to you, you hear me? Whoever's after you, whoever's looking for you, they're not gonna find you. And even if they do, they're gonna have to go through me first. You're safe so long as you're with me; I promise. I'll protect you, no matter what."
He shifted his weight a little as he continued to look up at her. "And besides, I'm actually really happy that you ran away. If you hadn't, I never would have found you." The water bottle now forgotten on the floor by his feet, he took her hand in his and raised it to his lips, kissing the back of it. "I mean it, though," he said, looking into her eyes once more. "I won't let them take you away from me."
=-=-=-=-= The squeaky wheel gets the grease, or something like that - Surge's mouth twitched upward into a bit of a grin. Finally, something in this battle was starting to go his way! Now, he wasn't sure how much more the little Wooper could take, but Raichu was getting somewhere close to the end of his rope; he'd just gotten really good at not showing it. Call it part of their intimidation strategy, if you would. Regardless, win or lose he'd be pretty happy either way. The battle had been fun (if not a little infuriating in places).
"Now's yer chance, Raichu," Surge said, raising a large fist. Oh, how he would have loved to end this match with a Thunderpunch or a Thunderbolt, but he'd have to make due with another move he loved using - one of Raichu's favourites and one he hadn't yet used in this match. "It's time to give 'em a Body Slam!" Giving a growl, the Electric-type ran forward on all fours (also a first for the match), jumping up when he neared the paralyzed Water/Ground-type, prepared to make another little Marshall-shaped hole in the ground.

Despite his distaste for the savagery nature of battles as a whole, Viy could not deny the certain visceral pleasure he felt whenever he knocked into something using Rollout. Rattata did not fly away as Caterpie did, but its squeak was similar enough to bring back fond memories of the original incident. The Venipede turned around, kicking up more dirt in his wake as he rounded on the purple mouse again. Jett said nothing, watching the two scurry about. Donnie, growing panicked by the attack's lack of, well, stopping, called for a Quick Attack just to "get away from that weird bug!" His insistence on referring to the Venipede as weird was offensive, but he instinctively knew that his kind was not native to this forest, if not to this entire region. He would let that slide, for now.
The Quick Attack was a clever strategy; the battle quickly devolved into two blurs chasing after each other. The Normal-type, in a quick show of wits that impressed even his many-legged opponent, tried to feint and lead the bug right into a tree in order to stop his onslaught. When Viy smacked into the tree with an alarmingly loud thunk, he only paused for a moment before rolling the opposite direction, falling back onto the ground and picking up speed at a distressing rate. The spot where he had hit left a visible divot in the tree trunk, the bark cracked around the edges. "Geez," Jett mumbled, watching the chase continue. He almost felt bad when, in a panicked attempt to turn, the Rattata's feet fell out from under it and he landed harshly on his side, only to be pummeled by the Venipede just a second later. After that, the poor Mouse Pokemon was knocked out and Donnie recalled it, managing to keep a stiff upper lip. The Venipede unfurled himself, again affecting his bored persona. Jett smirked; despite how bored he seemed to be with everything, he sure got into battles when he wanted to.
"Don't think you've won yet!" Donnie grumbled, recalling his Rattata and plucking another Pokeball from his belt. "Poliwag, go!" The Tadpole Pokemon appeared, slapping its tail happily on the ground. While Viy looked positively raring to go this time, Jett stopped him.
"Wait a second." When the centipede looked back at him, half-lidded gaze demanding some kind of rationale for this executive decision to stop him from battling. "Sit this one out, buddy. You've done great so far." After a tense moment, the Bug/Poison-type retreated behind his trainer's leg, still wanting to observe the battle for whatever reasons. Jett picked his own Pokeball, not knowing what the Poliwag's level was but hazarding a guess that it wasn't that much higher than his own Pokemon's. In a flash of light, Naja the Ekans appeared, hissing readily. "Ready for round two, Donnie?"

While she had grown quieter, Tessa's thoughts still raged on with the same speed and passion that her speeches possessed. Mostly, she was growing more and more annoyed that this boy wasn't saying anything aside from commands. She had encountered quiet trainers before; at least, trainers who were not shy but did not have much to say. And usually they had some snide remarks to make toward her and her Pokemon. But not this boy... he just said nothing. Were his thoughts empty? Or was he secretly judging her and simply not giving any of his impolite thoughts voice? That was it!
"Watch out, Machop!" she yelled, figuring that she would not call him out on his internal taunting until she felt pretty sure about it. The Fighting-type, confused as ever, looked around, not knowing which part to watch out for. For even a lucid Pokemon, trying to avoid a shadow would be hard, and when the Shadow Sneak struck, he cried out in pain and surprise and fell to his knees. "Payback, quickly!" The battle girl ought to have taught him more than two TMs, but at the time, it seemed rather excessive. Machop managed to stand back up and leap at nothing for all of a few seconds, before he was swiping at nothing during his descent. When he hit the ground, he was clearly out for the count. "Tch. Think that's all we've got?" Tessa recalled the Fighting-type and retrieved her second Pokeball, releasing a Meditite, who promptly fell into a meditative stance. "We'll allow you to have the first move," she said, shooting Leon a look. "Not that it'll matter."

“Woo! Good shot, Halibel!” The redhead cried as the Venonat managed to regain its footing, pumping his fist toward the rooftop. This wasn’t the greatest match up in the world. In fact, he’d feared that maybe, just maybe, training her here was a terrible idea. But there was a fire in her tiny little eye, and like that, Scarlet knew as long as she had her tackle attack, they had a chance. They could do this. They could win.
“Hah, I didn’t think they could do that,” Holly muttered as her Venonat turned around to get a better look at the hopping fish. “Let’s make sure it doesn’t happen again! Disable!” The purple puffball’s crimson eyes began to glow white, and Halibel’s followed just as quickly. Then it simply rocked back and forth on its feet, feelers twitching as its face canted upward to see what the strange redhead would do.
Disable…? That didn’t sound good. That sounded terrible. “Uh, s-shake it off, Halibel! Tackle it!” The fish pokemon simply lay in the grass for an uncomfortably long moment, as if to contemplate the nature of a tackle. Apparently, however the inspiration on how to do such a difficult maneuver never came, so she decided to take the liberty of using her other move. Her tail slapped the ground, and she cleared three feet of the ground, flailing wildly before landing pointlessly on the same point in the ground. Scarlet pinched his nose and winced.
----
Sleep came much easier than the blond would’ve ever believed, what with being lost in a pitch black forest filled with bees that happened to be prone to attacking in rage filled swarms. But cuddling in the grass with her fluffy little drilbur next to a crackling fire was pretty calming, and they weren’t alone. Clyde was there. The last thing she remembered as darkness crept up in the corner of her vision was the sight of him sitting against a tree with Evan in his lap, poking buttons on a crimson pokedex.
Alexis woke up the next morning, thanks to something sharp poking her repeatedly in the face. Her face scrunched up into a frown and her eyes flittered open to find a giant mole with shovel claws standing over her. “Ugh, what time is it…?” Forte’s head canted curiously to the side, a single claw finding its way to her chin. “… Right, you actually were born yesterday.” With no small effort, Alex righted herself, stretching her arms high toward the canopy and letting out a tired yawn. She heard something flutter and glanced to the grass behind her, only to notice a jet black hoodie.
“Ah. Guess your buddy Forte got tired of waiting.” From what Alex could tell, the black haired boy hadn’t budged the whole night. With a bored sort of smile, he dragged his bag closer to him, shoving the pokedex he still carried back into the side pouch. He tapped Evan in the rear, and the equally bored little Eevee hopped out of his trainers lap and trotted off deeper in the forest. “Yo, mind tossing me my shirt?”
She simply nodded, pulling the jacket up off the ground and hurling it over the now extinguished campfire. Her new friend caught it, bundled it up, and shoved it into another bag pocket. Did I really seem that cold? “Um, t-thanks.”
“Not even a deal. C’mon. The exit you’ve been seeking is that-a-way,” he grinned, pulling himself up off the ground and nodding in the direction Evan had disappeared. “I’m willing to bet you’d like an actual meal, so we should get to the Pewter City Pokemon Center, yeah?”
“Yeah, I think I could eat a horse right now.” Clyde started to walk off after his pokemon, and Alex fell in next to him, Forte close on her heels.
“Hah, I got Princess, if you’re that hungry.” The look of horror on the girl’s face made him wish his pokegear could take pictures. “Dude, relax. I kid. Just a joke. How would we cook a fire horse?”
Alex’s eyes narrowed. “You’re hysterical. You should be on TV.”

Amy stood there, watching her little Wooper watch that Raichu, his face curiously devoid of anything resembling his usual expression: cheerfulness, playfulness, a smile in some shape, way, or form. When Surge gave Raichu the command and the Mouse Pokemon began his advance, worry struck her heart. "Marshall," she called, eliciting no response from the little blue Pokemon. If that Body Slam hit him dead on, she didn't know if he would be okay. "Marshall, you have to move," the bespectacled girl said, a little louder than before. The Electric-type was getting closer and closer and Marshall was not moving. This was it. They had lost. He would never forgive her. For some reason, she couldn't bear to look at Surge, to ask him to call off his Pokemon, to forfeit. Instead, she inhaled, tears springing to her eyes when she saw that the Wooper had no intentions of moving at all, despite how beat up he looked. "MARSHALL!"
"Woopah," Marshall gasped, gritting his teeth as Raichu jumped. Instinctively, Amy closed her eyes, covering her mouth as if to hide the gasp that escaped when she heard that sickening crunch absolutely nothing. Wait a second -- there was no sound. No cry of pain. Slowly, Amy's eyes opened, and then they opened wide in shock. Raichu's Body Slam had not landed at all. Raichu had not landed at all. Instead, the now comparatively small mouse was held in the air by its larger opponent. Marshall stood there, no longer a little Wooper but now a larger -- "Quagsire!" the Quagsire announced, fatigued as he sounded. His blank expression had remained, but as he looked up at the electric mouse held up by his brand new arms, an impossibly wide grin split across his face. Amy gaped at her new Pokemon. He looked at her then, seemingly searching for approval. Pull yourself together, the girl thought, knowing she had given up in that moment. Steeling her resolve, she nodded. Marshall's grip on Raichu tightened and he began to hurl the Electric-type forward, not letting go but instead driving him into the ground with his shoulder, using his own makeshift Body Slam.

She couldn't help but roll her eyes at his "best ones I can remember" comment, and that itself brought a small smile to her lips. The relief of smiling after such profound sadness lent itself to more smiling and suddenly her entire expression was lightening, softening with relief when the boy she did not reject in turn did not reject her. Jade thought that this must have been how things were meant to work out. There couldn't have been anyone else who would have saved her in Jubilife that day. It was not the new taste of freedom that sweetened her experiences with him, that made her feelings for him sharper -- it was him alone. This sweet, stupid, selfless boy that kneeled before her and promised to protect her. All of her cowardice, all of her guilt, all of her paranoia, it was all made worth it by him. By the feeling of him kissing her hand.
"Thank you," Jade said after a long moment, eyes brimming with tears, not out of despair but out of happiness. Her hands framed his face and slowly, she brought it back up to hers, to finally return that kiss that had surprised her earlier. The girl didn't let him go after they broke apart, her lips quirking in a half-smile. "Jaeshan," she whispered, testing the way it felt on her tongue. "I could get used to Jaeshan." Because there wasn't enough contact made with the blonde boy, she pulled him into a tight hug, sniffling a little and hating herself for it. She sounded so goddamn teary. Weirdly, she longed for them just an hour ago, beating some biker a** and being damn good at it. But it was a good, albeit strange feeling to look toward the future, rife with uncertainty, knowing that she was not alone. She had Jaeshan by her side, and he would protect her until she was strong enough to protect herself. To protect him. It would not be so bad, protecting each other.
"So," she said after a long moment, pulling away to look at the boy's face. "Jaeshan the... amnesiac, I guess, and Jade the runaway. What's a pair like us gonna do now?"

Train sighed a little, not sure what to do now as the Bellsprout tightened its grip on her still-sleeping Fire-type. She felt like yelling and calling for her Pokémon to wake up seemed a bit stupid, as it wasn't like she could just nullify the effects of a toxin with her ******** screaming. She rolled her eyes at herself and shifted her weight back onto one leg, sticking her thumbs into the pockets of her jeans. At her side, Pikachu had moved off to the side and was laying comfortably in the grass. He seemed to have gotten over not being able to participate in this battle, and was content to watch. Though it didn't look like this was going so well for his trainer anymore.
The Bellsprout's body began to glow brightly, enveloped in green for a brief moment. The Flower Pokémon appeared to get a little larger, but returned to its normal size as the Growth faded, though it left both its Special and regular Attack raised, and thus the wrap did slightly more damage to the girl's Growlithe, who had still not woken up. She would have thought about recalling him and letting Pikachu finish up the battle after all, but with Growlithe caught in the Wrap attack, it was impossibly anyway, so she guessed she would just have to wait it out. Still, it sucked watching her Pokémon be hurt without much means of fighting back.+=+=+=+=+ Muuma braced herself and prepared to dodge, but relaxed as she saw that the Machop was headed nowhere near her. Leon watched Tessa's Pokémon fall to the ground and remain still, but she quickly replaced him with another Fighting-type, of course. "Muuma, return," Leon decided. The Screech Pokémon was a little surprised, but she returned to his side without protest. The purple-haired trainer slipped a PokéBall out of his jacket and pressed the button twice, one to enlarge it, and again to release his Gastly onto the battlefield.
She said it would not matter if he took the first move, but she was the one down a Pokémon, not him, so she surely could not mean that they were without a doubt going to win. If anything, that would be what it appeared her was going to do. This girl was too confident or simply did not know how to read a battle yet. "TMs are not uncommon," Leon informed her as Ghos flew around the battlefield, sticking his tongue out at the girl's Meditite and taunting it, though there was no ill will behind his actions. That was probably the first time he had directly addressed her, but now he was ready to move forward with the battle, and quickly commanded his first attack of the second match. "Giga Drain." The Gastly kept his tongue out at the Meditate Pokémon, bobbling about as a few medium and large green orbs floated from his body and shot with decent speed toward it.

From the way the conversation was heading, it seemed like it was a high possibility there was going to be a badge race sometime in the near future. This was something Mike didn't have any issue with whatsoever-mostly because he was already winning. At least, he thought so. "Yeah. Roxanne's a bit...terse, but she is a good trainer. Just watch out for that Nosepass when you do challenge her. Those things have been known to use electric attacks. Something to do with magnets, I dunno." He shrugged. How did they work, anyway? "Just watch out for that."
Kasiya's nervous fidget was beyond adorable, and he couldn't help but give her another kiss on the forehead because of it. "That's very true." Mike said with snicker. "You wouldn't wanna make everyone else jealous." His girlfriend's sudden catch of him owning a Thunder Badge caught him just as much off guard as it did her. "I never told you?" he asked, pursing his lips to the side as he tried to recall the conversation that apparently never happened. "Huh. Well, after that whole bit at Slateport," a situation he passed by with such unfitting casualness as the details began falling back into place. He was done being dramatic about it. "I somehow found myself in Vermillion. Not really sure why, though." he furrowed his brow as he tried to come up with a sensible reason for such a trip. None stuck out. "After that, I just kinda stumbled into the gym and battled him. It was super late, so I'm surprised he was even there. Oh! Napalm evolved in that fight, actually. That was pretty awesome." He retold the events like he was narrating a slideshow on the wall, his tone somewhat detached from the words he was saying. "I was in a pretty...frothy state then, from what I can remember, and your dad actually calmed me down after the fight with a nice talk." Like father like daughter. "It was stern and somewhat loud, but it helped. I think." Okay, maybe not exactly. "Despite the fact that he's a mountain with arms, he's surprisingly nice when he needs to be. So...yeah! That happened." He rocked back in forth as he let Kasi process the story. All things considered, he was still hilariously nervous to see him again, now that he was dating the mountain man's daughter. That was going to be an experience, that's for damn sure.
