Lin paused because she had to seriously think about it. Really Ruel hadn't been mean around her, and he had finally gotten over Elnara. Though she knew there were some things that Ruel just needed a good whamp in the head for.

"He has his days," she finally settled on.

Earendil chuckled softly at that. "Yes ... I suppose he does. Days ... times ... well. Progress is progress, I suppose I oughtn't complain. He has gotten better than he was a long time ago. I should be thankful for that. Still."

He squeezed her hand gently. "I suppose I should just give him time."

"Give him time," Lin chuckled, "You'll see, it'll be fine."

If Ruel could get over Elnara eventually he was sure he could get over other issues he had as well.

"Does he worry you sometimes?"

Earendil was quiet for a moment, thinking. "Sometimes ... would be an understatement," he murmured. "I think he's the only thing I worry about ... and I worry about him almost constantly. If I were like Daeron it wouldn't be so bad, but I do care about my father, I-"

He cut himself off before he could start rambling, his face flushed and warm.

She leaned against him, knowing that of course Earendil would worry about his father.

"He's family and your father," Lin murmured, "What he thinks does matter whether you agree with it or not. I understand that."

Honestly she did, Ruel was the first thing that jumped into her mind (just about) when she had found out.

Earendil slipped one arm around Lin's shoulders, holding her close as they walked.

"I wish sometimes that I didn't care what he thought," he murmured. "But whatever he thinks, I won't let it come between us. Nothing and no one is more important than you are to me. Even my father can't change that."

That made Lin blush, even though at the same time it touched her because she knew it could be really hard.

"He'll get over it... with time," Lin assured Earendil.

It might take centuries but they had centuries.

"In time," Earendil repeated in a soft murmur. "As with all things, time is the answer."

Not that he always liked that. Sometimes he just wanted things to be right, right then.

Lin smiled at that, she didn't mind really. She knew how hard it was for Ruel to understand something that Lin herself thought was only a matter of fact. It probably didn't help that Luthien was perfectly fine with it.

"Do you think it'll be okay to swim today?" Lin inquired, she hadn't considered it before and only now had she thought of it, but she had never swam in the ocean before.

Earendil blinked, his mind taking a moment to adjust to the shift in topic. "I ... would think so," he mused. "I mean, sure it's early in the year, but it's a good, warm day ..."

Of course, he was used to the ocean at Nauros, which was warm year round. He didn't know much about water temperatures in the ocean.

"Well, let's test the waters first, for some reason it completely slipped my mind we're still in spring," Lin admitted sheepishly.

Even though she hadn't been the one who suggested the swimming lessons she certainly hadn't disagreed with it. Only now was she thinking as someone who had experienced all sorts of weather back home.

Earendil nodded. "We can ask Kelirahc what he thinks," he suggested. "He would know best of all. I know very little of these things. After all, the climate here is very different from back home."

"I've only swam in rivers," Lin admitted, "But we can swim in them during the spring because it isn't warm enough, unless you're a mer because they're desensitized to the cold."

She also knew that elves handled the cold a lot better than humans and most other races.

Earendil smiled. "Well, I do know one thing about water - that rivers and oceans are nothing alike. They really can't be compared."

He took a deep breath and let it out slowly, smiling softly.

"The air here is so pure, so clear ..."

To Lin pretty much any place in this world she had been to so far could be considered purer than anything found in Gaia. Though she understood what Earendil meant by here.

Up ahead she could somewhat make out the beach. Taking in the quiet time, she just let a comfortable silence fall.
