Sai kept his sword in hand. He brought his trademark incantations to mind, fixing them there. He didn't know if he could do it, but he wanted to be ready to silent cast them at a moments notice if he had to. He wasn't sure he could make it work, but he might have to try.
"Let's go." Sai said, intentionally hardening himself for what they were going to do.
He began walking towards the palace entrance, Stratus at his side.
Stratus sensed Sai's calm resolve and echoed it. The two of them feeding each others emotions. One's calm granting the other greater calm, who in turn granted resolve and determination to the first, and back and forth. This continued until they both began to feel as if they were a blade forged of ice. Hard, cold, deadly.

((What? Evil, all-powerful rogue sage not good enough for you? xp lol ))

"Do you suppose he's got a trap for us?" Vilya said, preparing her blades.

A cold stone settled in the pit of Vilya's stomach. It was not fear, but a bitter loathing. She hated him for what he had done to her home. The blood magic twitched under her skin. Suddenly a wave of new emotion settled over her as the gryphon strengthened their mind link. It was a cool indifference, a feeling of staring at a target, with a goal, as a lion would look at its prey.

They strode towards the entrance of the palace, the chill of the ice now creeping into the air all around them.
They stepped into a long, dark hallway, their breath billowing in clouds to a roof covered in thick, heavy icicles.
Tura told them.
They passed through a large set of doors unhindered into a huge round chamber with a domed ceiling. Before them at the other end of it lay three solid ice gates.
"Choose one." The voice commanded. "And we'll see if you are worthy of an audience with me."

((It is possible that Vix could have tracked Sai and Vilya. He does have an excellent sense of smell if I remember right...))

"I'm almost certain he has a trap for us." Sai responded. "Probably where we'll least expect it. He may think that we don't stand a chance, and that's why there's a trap. A person doesn't bother hunting the mice in their house themself, they get a cat to do it for them. You may be right, Tura, so I might be also. I think it depends on how far above us he thinks he is."
Sai followed along through the passages to the circular chamber with the three gates. He listened as the disembodied voice told them to choose.
"Well, what do you think? Shall we take the straightforward approach and go right down the middle? Or shall we try to puzzle out which door we think he'd have set to lead to him?"

((My field research site was supposed to have internet...now it doesn't. I may not be able to post until the end of July, but that's a worst case scenario.))

"Don't waste my time!" Vilya barked, letting her anger get the better of her.
There was a long silence in the icy cave, no movement except their misty breaths on the frozen air.
"Oh?" The voice echoed at last. "Very well." A loud, low grating sound filled the hall. All at once the three gates lifted.
Vilya and Tura readied themselves as something shifted in the shadows.
Without warning a huge tail wrapped around a pillar dividing two of the doors. It strained for a moment before the solid pillar snapped, crumbling like stale bread under the force.
"Three doors, one chamber." Vilya growled. She did not so much as blink as the monster crept into the arena.
It was immense, sliding along diamond-hard belly scales, the blue tint to its long, black body reflecting the walls of the hall. At its chest there was a break which divided into three hooded serpent heads. Three ebony tongues flicked the air, three pairs of ice-blue eyes focused on the tiny group. The center head opened its mouth, sizing up Tura and Stratus. Light glinted off two long fangs and behind those, two poison glands were tight with venom.
"We can't get tagged by those fangs." Vilya said softly, readying her weapons. Suddenly the creature attacked.

Sai, trusting in Vilya's skills and the powers granted to her by her spell, dove to one side of the attacking serpent creature. He rolled to his feet, whipping his sword around to use it as a shield of sorts if needed. Spells flooded his mind, those that he knew well enough to cast without his spellbook. He knew that at the moment he would not have the kind of focus he would need to cast without a vocal incantation though.
Sai though to his partner. Stratus responded with an affirmative. "Calx Pluma!" Sai incanted as he held his free hand out towards Stratus. He directed his magical energies and the spell settled over his partner, whose fathers all turned suddenly to stone.
Stratus darted forward on all fours, despite his suddenly increased mass he moved quickly and sinuously. When he reached the nearest of the serpents heads he reared up, bringing his impressive talons to bear, raking out at the creatures eyes.
Sai similarly darted forward, for the next nearest head, his sword held at the ready in one hand. As he ran he muttered a second incantation. "Laboro levitas intra meus manus." Golden electrical energy formed and grew into a sphere in the palm of his left hand, arcing around itself and casting a glowing radiance across his body.

Leonard and his partner Kazal walked through the streets of the small town. Both wore dark, heavy, cloaks wrapped around them and with the hoods up to shield their eyes from the brilliant sunlight. The cloaks did little to conceal the fact that both of them were large and broad of shoulder. Each carried a large weapon in hand. Leonard carried a long handled warhammer, and Kazal carried a heavy double axe.
As they walked through the street they were given a wide berth for their bearing and their obvious weapons. Occasionally somebody noticed Kazals, furry, clawed, hand poking out of his cloak, holding onto the haft of his axe.
The two of them eventually came upon their destination. The Magical Academy, or Sage's School, of the small town. They had arrived into the town earlier the previous night and had opted for a nights rest before challenging the local Sage. The Academy looked simple, functional. It was constructed of sturdy red bricks and solid wooden beams. There was a ten foot wall all the way around, which surrounded the School itself, the Sages residence, and the courtyard. There were several other smaller buildings as well, and there would be much more to the School than simply a classroom.
As the two walked up to the building they noted their traveling companions had already arrived. The two had said that they would meet them there and so they had.

((Starting today we will be running a second group within this roleplay. deadgundam, Raolain, and myself will be playing the characters in this group, though there could always be more added later. Part of why we are doing this is to keep things moving within this setting. The reason we are doing it separately is so that our current group doesn't get bogged down with too many characters. And it also lets us explore this setting more so with two groups. The seconds group will make all posts in Red so that they can be easily differentiated.))

Xander Von had been sitting around all day under the sady of a nice tree waiting for his compainions all day. He had done all that he could to kill the time but he was still bored by this time. Xander had sewn up the new holes in his pants that he had made lst night making his bed, scrubbed and sharpened his Cestus, done his moring work outs, and even tried to read a book. After dozing off Xander was rudely awakened by a disembodied voice.
"Someone is approaching Mr. Von." Xyliah's gravely voice proclaimed. "Don't mess this up."
"Easy X, I got this." Replied Xander. "And stop calling me Mr. Von, that is my dad's name."
With that Xander stood up and greeted his travelling buddies with a solid hand shake.

((I think I may have forgotten to mention to you, deadgundam, that telepathy is posted with <> around the speech. Ex: ))

"Xander," Leonard said as he grasped his friends hand. "Xyliah. You two do know that you don't have to be so formal with me. We're friends, Xan, not just some casual acquaintances." Leonard shook his head and smiled as he spoke to his friend. Sometimes he thought the man had spent too much time underground and didn't know how to communicate with the world above.
Kazal spoke through his mind, sending the thoughts to Xander's spirit-like partner.

"Leo! You know i like to start off with a good strong hand shake! You can tell everything through a hand shake my old man used to say! HAhahahaha!" Said Xander as he scratched behind his ear dislodged some stray dirt.
Xyliah responded, her face region getting tanner.
"Do or do not! There is no such thing as trying! HAhahaha!" Interrupted Xander flexing and straining his jacket. There just so happened to have been a very sleek looking woman walking by but payed no attention to the show.

"Maybe you should take that handshake and point it at the Sage, then." Leonard said. "If you need to learn everything about anybody right now it's him."
Kazal responded.
"Well, what do you think." Leonard said, retrieving his hand from his overly muscular comrade. "Should we go knock and see what sort of master runs this place?"

"I agree with that! Let us wipe the floor with his face! Yeah!" Exclaimed Xander.
Pointed out Xyliah.
"And that is why we bury them head first! I just want to prove it to the last Sage that we did not win by a fluke." Xander mumbled, "Silly old washed up fruit bat..."
