XShadowMistressX For my band's flute section, if you want to be a section leader you have to be able to yell. The freshmen don't listen if you don't. Not to mention not only the freshmen don't know how to march, some sophomores, juniors, and even seniors don't know how to read drill. The section leaders this year suck. They don't know how to get the others to march right.
Our flute section is like the worst ever at marching. We can't form a straight line for god's sake. I'm not a section leader but I find myself yelling at the rest of the section to get in a straight line a lot. Gosh our section leaders suck...they don't even try because they can't do it themselves. stressed I hate being a freshman, Seriously, I can't wait to be a somphmore..

RinoaHeartilly Miangel Wow. Our wind ensemble flute section... doesn't suck this year! Yay! They're way more respectful than last year, they actually do what they're asked, and they held a sectional yesterday morning that they all showed up to! I'm in shock. XD I may actually go back to flute for concert music, if I don't get sucked into staying on sax by my crush. XD Miangel!!! =D How have you been? Glad to hear that about your flute section this year. We only had three freshman flutists this year! Last year we had tons. So I take it you STILL haven't told your crush you like him? xD I've been good! ^^ Busy, but good. I'm in four band classes this year... it's crazy. I think we have, like, four freshman flutes this year, and they're all in the concert band. I don't know a whole lot about any of them yet. The only freshmen I know well are the ones in the low winds section of the concert band, and a couple other random ones. And no, I still haven't told my crush I like him. XDD I'm... bad at that kind of thing. It'll happen before the end of the year though... I hope.

It took me a while 'cause I'm naturally shy, though. I wish I had had some seniors to yell at me to cheer like we're doing this year. I probably would've done it sooner. XD I've never even attempted to play a string instrument aside from the piano. xD Pretty much everyone in our band does all the cheers so you kind of feel left out after a while if you don't join them. I think that's probably why I started. Felt like I was missing out on all the fun, and I was. xD

Man, we have about 60 people in the freshman band alone and I think 20 of us are flutes. :0

I love my flute section more than ANYTHING. The wacky traditions, the learning sign language, the hiding from the DMs during sectionals. I love it. The only problem is that next year I'm trying for DM ( 4laugh ) My section supports me on this (even said they'd let me hang out with them during sectionals) the thing that I haven't told them is that if I don't make it I will probably switch to drumline because I've always envied the line. If I switched to line I would never be able to go to sectionals with them, no more pixie shots, no more learning ASL during our 40 meas. breaks, no more bitching about runs, weather, achey joints, the bitching in your section, etc...
That's why I'm asking the current DM to help me conduct. As a DM I'll be able to love the whole band (and harbor my want to be on line)
The only dwnside to THAT is that I'd never be able to join a DCI band.

In concert band- about 13/70 MB- we went from a 10 person section to 5/100 (counting guard pit and line) there are actualy 16 people in the band that have the ABILITY to play the flute they just all got stolen away from us stare
