HAH look Is a kitty cat! *squee*

One time I started writing a book, and I got so im depth with the history of the races in the book that someone could have started a religion out of it.

I know what you mean. I like thinking up the different restriction on magic, the "blood", and all that... There is a fanfiction called "Voldemort's Last Spell" by... LouisIX (or something like that) which goes on about the history of Harry Potter and wizard kind. It's actually very interesting even though the first few chapters are all HISTORY.

Yeah... Well, I'd find it interesting anyway I guess, I'm a history nerd, I love it. It's my favorite subject to study. Last year a few of the teachers in my district tried to petition for an art history course, and I almost cried when it didn't get approved. Unfortunatly, there weren't enough people signed up for it to qualify. Makes me envious of Scottie's school. He has one class thats so small that theres only five students other than him in it. There were more than that who signed up for the art hist class. If our school were that small it'd been approved....

Ooh! I love reading wizarding history!
But as for real life.... eh. -.-
Occasionally it's interesting to see how long-dead people lived.
Other times?
Yeah, 'cause I'm totally going to need to know when Caesar died when I'm splicing genes in a lab.
PostPosted: Thu Mar 20, 2008 7:59 pm

True. But on the side of those who aren't Left brained, which is the side that does the gene splicing and such, but are Right brained, which is the side that does the history researching and the painting and such...

Knowing the scientific name of every species on the face of the earth is totally important when I'm painting pictures of random strangers for money and taking care of my kids all day, waiting for my husband the researcher to come home (I honestly think Scottie needs to become a professor... he can recall totally random things at the drop of a hat...).

Did you know that people who are Right brained are more inclined to being ambidexterous than Left brained people??? Hee hee... I actually used to draw with my left hand and write with my right, but the school I went to kidergarten at was one of those old fashioned christian schools who thought left handedness was a sign of the devil, and forced me into using my right for everything. Now I'm trying to regain my previous left handedness... It's rather difficult.

Sign of the Devil, I thought it was sign of a witch... thats weird. Try hard and it might come back, your left handness that is.

Well, at the moment I can sketch, write cursive on a board (like in the classrooms at school), paint my nails and apply makeup with my left hand... I'm actually better at the make up with my left.

Ambidextrousness. My cousin was ambidextrous sort of. He used to be left handed in everything but for some reason he started to use his right hand around three (I was four.) Lala. Now he fails with his left hand...besides cutting steak and stuff like that (He does those left handed).
I was wondering though, does it matter which hand you cast your spells with? Does it have to be your dominant hand? I think it is because Ollivander asks Harry which hand his dominant is.

I would think it would matter which hand you are the strongest with. You need to have a good control on that hand.

Interesting. Do you know that we all are naturally ambidexterous? I attended a lecture for birth professionals back in the day when I was an intern, with the French physician Frederick Leboyer, author of Birth without Violence. His book is very, very powerful and poetic and you can read it here: warning, graphic black and white images; http://www.eco-action.org/dt/bwv1.html

EVERY baby he delivered by his non-traumatic method was ambidexterous--until they started school and the teachers forced them into right-handedness, just as you related happened to you. Dr. Leboyer stated that overwhelm (birth trauma) made folks contract and (subconsciously) choose one sidedness. Mia, Feldenkrais exercises are useful to regain dexterity in non-dominant hands (or feet should you get the desire to race track and field over hurdles).

Now to make it Harry Potter related: Wonder if the St. Mungo's healers have a "return to natural spell" that would correct this. Would certainly simplify some of the 'emergency room' cases we saw in Order of the Phoenix.

Hrm. Yeah, I'm definitely left brained.
But I can write neatly with both hands (though right is definitely easier) and I cut with my left hand.
Well, even if you could hold a wand in either hand, it's more natural to hold something in your dominant hand. And, sometimes, easier to think on that side too... better motor control and all that.

Sounds like an interesting read. I will have to give it a try.

I have a friend who is left handed, and she has this planner for left handed people, and it's backwards to be for left handed people... But it had a lot of interesting information, such as...

Ok, so in America, left or right-handedness is determined by which hand you write with, which is why I'm considered right handed. However, in a few asian countries, I would be left-handed, because there it is determined by which hand you eat with, and I eat with my left!

Also, on the thing about wand hands... have you ever noticed that a lot of the times, when you hold something in your non-dominant hand, you hold it in a sort of mirror image to the way you hold it in your dominant hand, rather than the reverse? Whenever I do this, I get a cramp in the muscles on the outside of my hand. The motor control is also a factor which could affect this. Not only that, but a lot of the time with wand work, you are supposed to wave your wand a certain way, and if you hold it in your non dominant hand, you might wave it backwards. Not sure if that makes any difference, but it could. I know that when I write with my left hand, I find it easiest to write in cursive, backwards (as in from right to left, not with the words backwards).

And that is very interesting, LHH. I would love to look into that. The reason I want to regain my ability with my left hand is because I'm an artist, but I also take karate lessons. I plan on continuing with both. However, like in all sports, things can happen, and if I hurt my right hand doing something in class, I want to still be able to draw while it's healing.

I am not at all ambidextrous. Don't get me wrong, I can hold my kid with one hand and do something with the other but that is all. I can't write with my left or anything awesome like that.
PostPosted: Sun Mar 23, 2008 7:47 am

Lol.
It's a bit difficult to make sure you don't end up writing the reflection of words XD
Fun to read in the mirror, though. XD
I wonder what spells would come out like if they were done "backwards".
Naturally, the "away from yourself" and "towards yourself" of each hand would be different.
That's confusing -.-
It's really sad...everything (almost) in the world is made for right handed people.

I'm not ambidextrous. Definitely not. I can write with my toes, I trained myself how to do stuff like that during summer vacation in elementary school. It was so freakish.

If you did spells backwards, I'm sure you would need a broken wand.
