Lepidus Light Aw, that's too bad, Rinoa...I'm not sure how it works at our school, but thusfar we've lost both games that have occured. I'm hoping that they'll be able to win the next few to make up for our embarrassment. xd
My flute skills have stopped deteriorating...has anyone here played a piece called "Prime Time" for pep band or anything? I love that song. :3 Good luck to your football team... when our team went to the playoffs our band had a grand time. We got to ride in charter buses with TVs, overhead compartments, everything. We also got to stop at a mall for a couple hours to eat and go shoppin' and whatever else we wanted to do. xD

Lepidus Light Tee-hee, Petit...I understand what you mean. Even though I've never seriously committed to playing piccolo, I tried to play that note, and omigosh I nearly died. xD; Something tells me I need to train my airstream to go a little faster...and get some earplugs while I'm at it.
But is there anything that will help me with the flute lyre? I'm using the one you put on your wrist and my wrist is pretty small so it doesn't fit well. You can't adjust them or anything? That sucks. I have real small wrists too.

Do any of you other flutes have advice? gonk sweatdrop O.o Seriously?? Because here in order to be in the marching band you have to already play an instrument, which basically means that you would of had to join band in the 6th grade...

Wow. Our wind ensemble flute section... doesn't suck this year! Yay! They're way more respectful than last year, they actually do what they're asked, and they held a sectional yesterday morning that they all showed up to! I'm in shock. XD I may actually go back to flute for concert music, if I don't get sucked into staying on sax by my crush. XD

We only had three freshman flutists this year! Last year we had tons. So I take it you STILL haven't told your crush you like him? xD

Lyres: Pure evil. I don't like them. I never use them except for in the stands and then I take off the part that's used to put around your arm and set it in my lap. I tried using it once to play my parade song (King Cotton) but I couldn't see. I have the music memorized by the time we do drills and stuff so I don't need to use one.
Other random stuffed talked about: I'm hoping to be section leader next year. As far as advice goes, just let them know that you're helpful, nice and they can ask you something if they have any questions. Don't let them think you're too nice. You kind of have to be like this guy -> twisted Hopefully, the freshmen next year aren't going to be all grr and not listen. Some of the flutes don't like our section leader now who's not mean at all. She told us to keep our flutes up and told this one girl that she should especially and then this junior was like "Well, I don't always see you keeping your flute up so don't tell us to do something you can't do." She'll be a senior next year, but she sucks. gonk
Question: My intonation and tone quality sucks, but I'm really good (I got a 98/100 on my playing test and the thing that brought me down was my intonation) so in a way I still kind of suck because my sound isn't that great. My band director told me a way I can keep in tune with myself is to just play a scale with my tuner and kind of get an ear for what it should sound like. He didn't say anything about my tone quality, but I don't think he could tell. Suggestions?

Yes, I believe I'll just go ahead and memorize my music.
As for letting people who don't even know how to play the instrument into the marching band/band/whatever...what were they thinking?

For my band's flute section, if you want to be a section leader you have to be able to yell. The freshmen don't listen if you don't. Not to mention not only the freshmen don't know how to march, some sophomores, juniors, and even seniors don't know how to read drill. The section leaders this year suck. They don't know how to get the others to march right.
Our flute section is like the worst ever at marching. We can't form a straight line for god's sake. I'm not a section leader but I find myself yelling at the rest of the section to get in a straight line a lot. Gosh our section leaders suck...they don't even try because they can't do it themselves. stressed
