KitoYasha Okay, all...I'm calling on you for help, and I'd really appreciate it if I got some feedback. Just promise not to laugh, okay? =/
Alright. School starts again for me on Thursday, and I'm happy to be in band again for the first time since seventh grade, which is almost two years (I left in September of my seventh grade year). Sadly, I hadn't practiced very much in that time, and whatever talent and skill I once had seems to have decroded from a shining becon into next-to-nothing. I have trouble with a high B--the fifth note I learned--and can hardly reach a high D or E (though, unusually, I'm fine with C). This is certainly a problem, and my notes are way too airy, and lacking of much tone.
Help!
I used to be so good! There's no doubt that that talent went to waste, the moment I quit, the biggest mistake of my life. What I'm asking for help is, I'm spazzing out about the notes I can no longer play, which are definitely going to be in a lot of pieces for the high school band. Is there any way that I can make myself be able to reach them, soon, with quality (i.e., breathing exercises)? I lose my breath very easily (I think I have asthma), which could account for part of the problem. I've been practicing a lot over the summer, but simply don't seem to be able to play very well, anymore. Any suggestions? I'm just about begging you, here...I don't want to go from best of my year to the girl who can't play so quickly. =/
Thanks in advance, Kito-chan Well, I don't know how much this will help, but you should probably work on tone before you work on technique if your problem is airy notes. Do you have a private instructor? Those can be useful too. 3nodding With working on tone, I like to work on the individual notes one at a time. Play the note for as long as you can while changing your apature(sp?) and the mouthpiece angle.

Thanks in advance, Kito-chan One thing that can really help with the highest octave is reallu opening up your mauth and throat. Drop your jaw, but don't le it change your aumbachure. Also, as you star going up into and through the highest octave, your ambachure should get smaller and your air faster (This is made easier by having a more open throat) but when you get so high (not sure what the exact noit this changes on) your aumbachure should start to get bigger again. I hope that helps ya!

XShadowMistressX *sigh* Flutes get such crappy lyres...or "Flutist's Friend"s. Most people put it around the upper pard of their lower arm, not the wrist, though. Yes they do...I'm just going to either look in my lap for it when I'm doing pep band in the stands or memoriaze...it's the only way. xD
Our team lost today at the football game...it was sad, since I had such a good time playing the music. 3nodding

Mmmm_Crunchy! I play the flute, and I've played it since 5th grade, and I'm a sophomore!! Yay flute!! I love marching band!! And...I miss our graduates... I love marching band too. I wish ours was more involved though. Marching band ends for us if our football team doesn't make it to the playoffs, and we've lost every game so far this year so I don't think that's gonna happen.

Aw, that's too bad, Rinoa...I'm not sure how it works at our school, but thusfar we've lost both games that have occured. I'm hoping that they'll be able to win the next few to make up for our embarrassment. xd
My flute skills have stopped deteriorating...has anyone here played a piece called "Prime Time" for pep band or anything? I love that song. :3

I PLAY PICCOLO TOO NOW! I'M SO EXCITED! But we have a piece called the Witch and the Saint and it's got extremely high notes. It's going to take a lot for me to get those notes out!

That's awesome, Petit! Piccolo actually sounds pretty neat if you play it right...so I'm regaining respect for it. ^^ I love my new band director (The one up at the high school. Fweee...Freshman power! >w<).

Tee-hee, Petit...I understand what you mean. Even though I've never seriously committed to playing piccolo, I tried to play that note, and omigosh I nearly died. xD; Something tells me I need to train my airstream to go a little faster...and get some earplugs while I'm at it.
But is there anything that will help me with the flute lyre? I'm using the one you put on your wrist and my wrist is pretty small so it doesn't fit well.

We tried putting them on the people in front of us, but they didn't like that too much...
