A handshake was a silly idea, it just irritated his sore palm. Plus any shinobi was taught that handshakes were very dangerous, since they were a favorite assassination tool. Poisons could be injected without you even knowing, or they could just pull you into their knife for a more immediate kill. Still, he followed through because there was still some Masaki left in Masaki.

"Well I've been slacking off so I'm going to ask Luo san for a good mission." Masaki opened his mouth to laugh, but a pain in his newly capped tooth stopped him. Hopefully Luo understood Masaki's need for training and wouldnt get mad about him neglecting his missions. The Mizukage was nice, but Masaki would never respect him if he wasnt strict as well. So far, there was no man he respected more. "Nice to meet you Gage Uramooshi of Ro. You're a new member of Kirigakure then? What are you up to? We could get more done if we worked together." Luo probably didnt have any more big missions like a trip to Konoha or a Zombie army, but if they were lucky they could track down a bandit or something. If they got something less fun then as a pair they could finish it quickly enough.

Matsuya chuckled a little when Gage left. He looked up at Luo and smirked. "Maybe it's because he's like me when we were kids, but I like that boy. He's got potential." Matsuya leaned forward with his elbows on his knees and his fingers crossed. "That and he's one of the few people that know my cousin, Kai. But that's beside the point. Gage is like me, in a way. He's someone who, by all records, is dead. Someone who the world has forgotten." Matsuya's gaze fell on the bead dangling from his hair and shifted to the headband now on his arm. That was part of his reason for gathering information about anything and everything. Matsuya was afraid of dying and leaving behind a stockpile of information about the world he lived in was one way to insure that he would live forever. But he also didn't want the world to forget those who it had already lost, like his Asami.

As Gauge seemed to realize his situation currently in the village, he made a request for Luo. Of course, what he asked was already going to occur, however the man didn't make mention of it. Instead, he nodded as if to comply with the request before Gauge took his leave. Sighing to himself Luo walked up and closed the door behind the genin, growing less and less fond of visitors leaving his door open when they left. Turning around he began to head for his desk as Matsuya began to chuckle, Luo catching a glimpse of a smirk as he walked by the man and sat in his usual position. When his friend made mention of how Gauge reminded him of himself at a young age, Luo's eyes trailed over to him. "Having potential is one thing, realizing it is another. I've seen enough shinobi with potential waste it, or worse let their ego get in the way. In the end only Gauge will be the one to decide how far his shinobi career will go."

Counting the money placed on his desk by Matsuya, the man wrapped it in a cloth and set it under the desk. He began filling out the information for the deed he needed to as well as placed his signature on the page and stamped it with Kiri's seal. Matsuya would need to sign the deed as well, so Luo turned it around towards him again as he replied to the man's second statement. "Trust me Matsuya, the world has yet to forget you or your face. You yourself fail to remember there are a few bingo books out there with your name right under mine. But you are right, this world of ours makes it very easy to erase the memory of our shinobi, of our people. However, when one is lost there is always someone out there who remembers. Always. A memorial does not always have to be public, or even recognized as a memorial at all. As long as there is one person on this earth who even glances at that display of affection, of fondness, even without knowing what it is for or even who, a man's memory may live on forever."

((Sorry Duo, not really patient enough to wait for your post, that's part of why the training with Himura ended prematurely.)
Masaki smiled at the boy, not giving him long to answer before moving towards the Kage's office knowing Luo would have all the juiciest missions. He waved at the receptionist and ducked out of the room as her words began to peel the wallpaper back. It would seem, that she was not having a good day. He figured if Gage was interested in working together he would either follow Masaki, or await his return. The thought that he may simply be taking it easy due to his injurues bothered Masaki some however. He who knew all to well the risks one takes when they do not continue their reach for strength. The shinobi games had no place for those who slacked off. Terra was not one to permit predictable lives. Masaki had work to do, perhaps he would meet the boy again and give him a little push.

When he reached the door, Masaki knocked. It would not be something the boy noticed, but his knock was heavier from excitement, and slower from the strain of his aching arms. Luo, who always seemed to know who stood on the other side of the door, would have difficulty recognizing this one. Masaki, used to being invited in before he even called his name, would remain silent with the assumption that the if Luo did not call him in immediately it merely meant that the kage was busy.

Matsuya nodded and sighed a bit when Luo commented on Gage's potential. True enough. But 10 years ago, I would have never guessed I'd be Hokage or the head of the Nara Clan. I'm sure you'll agree that before I began taking training seriously, I wasn't much to look at. I was lazy." Matsuya let out a loud chuckle at that point. "Actually, come to think of it, that lazy part hasn't changed too much!" The man smiled and leaned back in the chair, resting his right foot on his left knee. Matsuya had always attempted to keep up the image of the lazy underachiever. It kept strangers under the impression that he would be a pushover. But to those who'd known him his whole life, that image didn't work all too well. Passing second only to Luo in the academy and being a renowned tactician made him someone of esteem. Esteem Matsuya didn't really encourage. He made mistakes like everyone else.

Matsuya smiled softly and watched Luo count the money and then write the deed. When Luo turned the deed to Matsuya, he leaned forward and placed his signature on it. He looked at Luo up when he'd finished and smiled again. The reason behind the smile this time was Luo's talk of memorials and remembrance. "That's part of the reason I'm going into this business of mine: to preserve the memories of the people of this world. Call it selfish, but in the future, I'd like my writings to be looked back upon as a record of days gone by." Matsuya leaned back again and thought for a moment. He was going to need furniture for his apartment. But, he'd most likely visit the place first to see just what he'd need to buy. That and he'd need to gather what sparse possessions were still in his room at the Inn. Then another thought hit him. "Luo, I just remembered the file I left with you before my trip to Konoha. I'd like that back, if you don't mind. It should be a good starting point."

As usual, at this point in the day Luo began to become bored. From underneath his robe he procured a senbon with his right hand, spinning it between his fingers as his elbow rested on the bamboo. When Matsuya chuckled after speaking, Luo smiled warmly as well to what was said. It was a known fact that Luo woke up earlier than he had to as a genin just to collect the rest of his squad. The fish spit technique was his favorite as well as the most efficient way to wake the two up. Otherwise, there was just no telling when they'd show up, if they even showed up instead of skipping. He used the two for training often, volunteering to attempt to find them in the village when they went missing. He considered it the chance to bone up on his tracking skills as well as enemy profiling skills. Still, at some point they became serious about their careers as shinobi. Well, they took it seriously rather. In their own respects, both were still just as lazy as they were as kids.

Luo didn't speak after his friend explained to him a major part of his reason for going into the business he did. It was a goal of his, and Luo wanted no words to sully what had been said. He then mentioned the file, Luo nodding slowly in response to his request for its return. Using the hand that held the senbon, he reached under his desk. In one of the wooden panels on the floor there was what appeared to be a simple chip or blemish in the wood. Placing his senbon into it, Luo fiddled for a moment before a latch was opened, the panel popping up two inches and sliding back to reveal a compartment of files. He remembered placing Matsuya's in an odd place so it didn't get mixed up with other more pertinent documents and projects, thumbing through the back as he thought about dinner. Pulling the folder out, he handed it to Matsuya, sliding the panel back as the latch closed automatically behind the motion. Spinning the senbon once more, Luo's eyes went towards the door as he heard a knock.

It was an odd one for Luo, he couldn't place it with anyone that regularly came to his office. Most of the time if it was a civilian he didn't bother to remember the knock behind the name. It was slow and heavy though, and although Luo would like to think that based on this the person was rather large, it was not the case. In fact, unless the man was a dwarf it was a child, possibly a genin based on how low on the door the sound was emitted. If that were the case, the slow heaviness instead reminded him of a lazy knock altogether. He wondered if it was a new graduate from the academy, doubting that since the academy was currently in the middle of a semester. Unless some child showed extreme talent above all other students and was prematurely let out of the academy, there was no reason for there to be a new genin. As curiosity got the better of him after a few seconds of thinking he muttered, "come in."

At Luo's command, Masaki opened the door and entered the room with a smile. He was beginning to get excited about putting his new talents to use after all. Not beyond his manners, at least not in the presence of Luo, Masaki dropped to a one kneed bow. When he stood again he spoke. "Hope I'm not interrupting anything." He nodded respectfully to the other man in the room who he didnt really know too well. "My training with Hatake sensei is over for now, I was wondering if you have any good missions?" No more older snake guy, Himura had told Masaki his name only after he had earned the boy's respect. He tapped his new tonfa, which were tucked in his belt, and his smile widened, at least until he realized how bad he must look with his bandaged arms and bruised face. "It's not as bad as it looks by the way, just bruising mostly." and some sort of internal bleeding, a chipped tooth and small fracture but they fixed that all... mostly. Perhaps he arrived in time to earn a proper mission? He assumed his manners were decent enough he didnt earn a bad mission at least...

"Well I---" Gage began, but the boy was gone. 'What would I give to be that young again... Maybe start over... Hell I'm 17 and still a genin...' He thought to himself as he turned around and followed the boy. He kept his distance so Masaki wouldn't notice his presence, but there always was a possibility he did know but didn't hint it.

It took Gage a little longer then expected to reach the office without too much noise from the secretary at the desk, who always seemed to have a grudge with whoever was in the building. As he finally made to the office, he noticed that Masaki went in and didn't close the door. 'If I'm gonna go with the kid I might as well hear this...' Gage thought to himself as he crept near the door. He leaned against the wall near the door frame, his arm was pressed against the frame itself as he tried to hide his chakra. It was probably too late, but he did so anyways. He was almost sure he would get noticed.

(Crappy... But hey... I posted it in 10 minutes. I promise to give it more effort next time.))

Slightly surprised, Luo watched as Masaki entered the room all smiles. He was even further surprised with his manners, going so far as to perform an even more formal bow before speaking to Luo. The boy looked banged up, no doubt about in Luo's mind. He couldn't say he hadn't seen worse, but it was clear Masaki had been working. When he spoke of training with Himura, Luo raised an eyebrow slightly. Himura didn't usually take students, at least he hadn't taken a student since Luo was a chuunin. The man said he was getting old, but Luo sincerely doubted that was the reason. It may have had something to do with taking care of the clan, which he understood, or it may have even been personal preference. The man was well respected and had a seat on the Kiri council that was permanent. The more and more Luo thought about Himura, he found himself getting inwardly agitated. It wasn't because he hated the man, but a simple memory from his childhood.

Often times it was common for clans to take their most talented child and hold a collective exhibition. What it usually ended in, was the children who other heads took a liking to in the exhibition were hand picked to train with them, and Hatake-sensei had chosen Luo. It made him nervous for the man to pick him, he had sometimes caught him looking at him for a little too long, as if trying to figure him out. The reasoning behind the trade was simple at the time, it was because Luo showed more of an affinity for weapons. His father however, was more ninjutsu oriented so it made sense that Himura offered his services after observing Luo. What it resulted in, was a string of losses for Luo that he didn't really like to talk about. The man had an annoying technique, one so simple yet effective that irked Luo daily during the training. He would use a doton technique to throw Luo off balance, and strike in that moment. Each and every time it happened, the result was the same and Luo ended up with a bruise. And as he grew, so did the intensity of the technique used to disorient him. He had twice been able to effectively block both of his subsequent strikes, and that was it. Once that had occurred, the training ended. It seemed premature, and Luo never understood why he did it so abruptly. However, that was the last session they had as his father told him that night at dinner. Try as he did to goad the man into fighting him since the day their training ceased, Himura always smiled and threw his hands up in protest remarking 'I'm too old these days.' It agitated Luo to this day, if only out of curiosity. He wanted to see the true extend of that one attack, if only to figure out a way to defend himself against it.

"I see," was all that Luo said as Masaki mentioned his training ending with Himura. He then tapped a pair of weapons at his side that Luo recognized instantly as tonfa. He had formal training with the weapon, but nothing past that. Unlike Aoi who Himura trained more extensively with the weapon, Luo had no real interest in it. After all, training under Himura the man demanded Luo have an understanding of the weapon before they even began to spar. Of course he found out why the man wanted him to know how the weapon worked, since Luo's face was to become very familiar with it in the time to come. And while most people would say they were his weapon of choice, it was because it had been some time since he had ever needed to pick up a katana. You could say there was a part of Luo's sword skill that came from the white-haired shinobi.

"Tch," was what followed Luo's first pair of words after Masaki tapped the weapons. He was a bit lost in thought and in that moment let out the noise as if he were annoyed with the weapon, realizing it instantly as it happened. He wondered if Masaki would think the noise was aimed at him, figuring now he had to come up with something to please him to make up for the slip-up. Normally he would've given Masaki a simple errand mission to run, but he remembered being just as beaten up and walking into the same office demanding a proper mission, and how annoying it was to get an errand. As he began to spin the senbon in his right hand again, he heard someone coming up the stairs to his office through the ajar door. The shadow reached the top of the stairs before the person did, and he watched lazily as Gauge who had just left tried to hide outside. Sighing a bit, Luo made up his mind as he pulled two sealed envelopes and placed them in his left hand before standing.

"Gauge you might as well come in here, I'll need both of you for this mission." Waiting for Gauge to come back in he began to debrief them as he walked over to the coat rack adjacent to his desk, placing his robe on it and tucking the senbon in his right hand into the appropriate pouch. "There's a merchant from Nagi island who is supposed to arrive today at the gates. He's carrying new shinobi equipment to kiri market. The issue, is he's carrying crates of explosive tags. We've heard rumor of an attempted attack on the cart while it rolls through town, something we can't afford. If the tags are stolen, or worse set off within the village....well, I don't have to spell it out for you. We speculate the easiest place for anyone to attack the cart would be on the bridge linking Kiri marketplace to the mainland, however we can't be certain it won't happen within the village either. So, he hired a team to meet him at the gates and escort him to the marketplace. Since the ANBU patrols Kiri market heavily, him and the cargo should be fine once he reaches his destination. Any questions?"

By this point Luo had returned to standing in front of his desk, waiting for responses. It would've been odd for Luo to hang up his robe and stand after delivering a mission to them, well at least if that was all he was doing. However, the man was young and just as well bored. It was a simple mission within the village, something he could get done that afternoon and not worry about. Besides, he had finished all of his work anyway.

((I know I already asked this, but if I wasn't sure thick-headed Masaki wouldnt either.))

Masaki wasn't sure whether to be happy or not, this was better than walking a dog, but an escort mission didnt necessarily mean much more. Put the client on a leash and stay close. However if something did happen it could be very fun. The boy decided he might as well be pleased with the assignment and smiled. He hadn't noticed that Gage had followed him, though he didnt mind. He had invited him after all. Still, Masaki wasn't sure he understood the mission. He said the man hired a team to escort from the gates, but that he would be in most danger between the bridge and the gates, but only Chuunin were usually permitted beyond the gates, but... He rubbed his temple slightly. "So are we escorting him from the bridge to the gate? or the gate to the market?"

Gage missed most of what Masaki had said to the Mizukage. He really had no interest in what they were going to discuss, he just wanted to see if he would get caught.

"Tch..."

He heard it clearly and he knew he'd been discovered. 'I'll get it right one day...' he thought to himself as Luo called to him and he came out and walked next to Masaki. He gave the Mizukage a light bow before standing at attention with his hands behind his back. It was time to get serious. He was going to be given a formal mission and he was going to take it seriously. Even more seriously then the bout he had with the Ice-Lady.

Gage shut out his thoughts completely and did his best to focus on Luo. The Mizukage seemed as if he was getting ready to retire for the day as Gage watched him place his robe on the rack. 'I wonder...' He thought for a second. He didn't finish it because Luo began to give them the details of their mission. For some reason Gage processed the information thoroughly, something he hadn't been able to do with normal information, so he simply nodded his head at his instructions.

By the time Luo finished, he was back behind his desk. He then asked if they had any questions. At first Gage didn't, but then he noticed the envelopes on the desk. He instantly had two, but Masaki spoke up first. He wanted to know were they would accompany the man to.

Gage spoke up, thinking he was right. "We'll be with him from the bridge to the market. Its our job to defend the cargo for the entire time he is in our country. If the attack were to happen in the city it would be our first priority to protect the cargo and then defeat our enemy. The ANBU will make sure everyone and everything is safe, then lend us aid if our enemy is too strong." Gage stopped suddenly and took a shallow breath. He surprised himself with his own answer, but he wasn't done. "Lord Mizukage..." he began again. "What are those envelopes for. This is an escort mission not a delivery. Also, You specifically mentioned ANBU would be in the market place, so one of them wouldn't lead us and i see no higher ranking ninja here besides yourself and Matsua. Do you plan to accompany us, Lord Mizukage?" He asked, almost sure of his answer.

Gage then did his best to hide the surprise on his face, but he wasn't sure how well he did. This mission was gonna be a synch. It was already getting dark and by the time they reach the bridge the sun would be down. Gage was perfect for this mission. He just hoped he wouldn't let anyone down.

(A much better post. I'm getting back into it now. Edit- I noticed several grammatical errors that need to be fixed. Its too tedious to try to fix on my phone, so please excuse them. Thanks.)

As Masaki was the first to ask questions as Luo expected, his attention was already settled on him. It was then Gauge responded, his answer not entirely correct. It seemed both of them were gonna have to get used to missions from Luo. "We'll pick him up from the bridge in water country and escort him through Kiri to the marketplace. We suspect he's more than likely going to be attacked on the bridge connecting the island the marketplace is on to Kiri. I shouldn't have to mention however, the possible perils of Kiri country. Just keep your eyes peeled, and your ears perked. However Gauge you are incorrect, there would be no need to hire a squad if the ANBU was just going to do all of our work for us. I don't hire out men and women whose work includes nothing short of A-rank missions for simple escort missions. I don't like repeating myself, so pay attention. The ANBU is stationed within the Kiri market, so once we're across the bridge our mission is done. The ANBU watches the place heavily enough to make sure he's safe."

When Gauge asked about the envelopes in his hand he answered in his normal muted tone, although slightly annoyed with the question. It wasn't something he should concern himself with, however the kid may have just been too inquisitive for his own good. "These documents are none of your concern." He then seemed to mention the ANBU again, however seemingly grasped that Luo wouldn't waste their time with the mission. He then finally seemed to reach his point, the question Luo expected to hear one way or another. With a wave to Matsuya, he began for the door saying to his friend, "Well, expect someone to deliver the keys to your property at the inn. It should be before dinner tonight, so check there before you go out to eat." Continuing for the door and out of it he walked a few feet without really answering Gauge's question. Stopping at the top of the stairs he crossed his arms over his chest as his head bent slightly and he sighed. As he waited for the other two to follow he muttered, "Well?"

Matsuya rose from his seat, grabbing his knapsack on his way up. He yawned loudly and stretched his stiff back. He glanced at Gage and Masaki, smiling to each. He picked up his file of information from Luo's desk and started towards the door. He turned his head slightly and gave Gage an encouraging thumbs up. "Have fun you guys. Try not to get into too much trouble!" Matsuya laughed and walked out towards the stairs. He warily gave Luo's secretary a wide berth, all too aware of her distaste for him and his laziness. "See you later, Luo. If you need me, I'll either be at my new apartment or out saying hello to some old friends. You know the place." Matsuya gave Luo a small smile and nod of goodbye as he passed. He walked down the stairs and sighed slightly. He had a lot of work ahead of him. He had to get the shop in operational order, get used to his new living arrangements, and make a visit he'd been putting off since his return to Kirigakure. Matsuya put a smile on his face to reassure himself that everything would work itself out. And with that, he walked out of the tower and made his way towards the inn to gather his belongings.

Masaki assumed a serious face as Gage proceeeded to explain things for the kage, a thought briefly crossed Masaki's mind about this. That it was weird this boy who had just been put in the hospital for respect issues has both attempted to spy on the Mizukage and spoke in his stread when Masaki asked a question. However this thought crossed almost before it was noticed and Masaki payed it no further mind. He wasn't particularly polite himself, usually, plus Gage had fought in a battle Masaki was too afraid to join, plus Luo seemed perfectly capable of figuring such things out on his own. Heck, Luo was far more clever than Masaki could dream to be, or if nothing else his skull wasn't nearly as thick. Thus the thought passed without another thought, and Masaki moved to follow Luo, smile only slightly thinner. While Masaki respected Luo, he also knew that with him around Masaki's menial skillset was nearly worthless, and his strength would not likely be tested properly. How could it, with an S ranked kage who could vanish in a blink? Perhaps one day the young boy could match Luo, but that day was not today.
((I wonder. If Luo found out how deep Masaki's beliefs about strength went, particularly that the greatest gift is to have your strength tested, would Masaki be allowed to continue as a Kiri nin? If he were strong enough, yet held the current mindset, he would absolutely challenge Luo to a match because there is noone he respects more.))

'Ill never be a great assassin at this rate...' Gage's mind was racing as the Mizukage spoke to him. Gage seemed to grasp some information perfectly and other info was just twisted or none of his concern. "I've got a long ways to go..." He muttered quietly to himself as Matsuya walked pasted and told them to have fun.

"I know I will!" Gage said as a smile crept over his face momentarily, but then it disappeared. He remembered something important. "Remember your promise!" Gage called out to the man as he walked does. The stairs. Suddenly the Mizukage walked passed them and asked the pair if they were coming, answering Gage's last question subtly.

Gage stole a quick side glance at Masaki then followed the Mizkage to where ever he will lead.
