Mmm, I've had a delicous thought.
After our sword-ridden rampage, we should take part in a racing tourney.
There's gonna be some crazy going-on in the courses.
I call middle-weight.

Contrary to popular belief swords were almost never used on the battlefields of old. Axes were more popular for hacking because the weight made it easier to kill multiple enemies faster, and the most popular all time weapon before we started using ranged weapons was the spear or lance because it kept your opponent away. The sword was only a sidearm in the army. Swords are really made more for one on one combat like duels. That is why many characters in stories use swords. They are much more personal than other weapons because they are made for one on one contact.

Zephyrkitty I assume that's why you're carrying one? I just can't find a weapon that doesn't kill my theme...other than the katana.

Almost sheds some light on why I use a mallet as my weapon of choice in my story. Like 50% of the reason why.
But as a kid, I used a sword. Not made of metal, but a hard, green, almost diamond-like material.

It is repetitive, but the swordfight is more personal. It has been glorified ever since people told stories of two people locked in combat. Ever since it has become ingrained into our collective human psyche. Light is usually matched with good, the dark is typically something to be feared, dragons eat maidens and hoard gold, and the hero carries a sword.
