"I would rather not see you fight at all, Lucky. But if you must, I do think a staff would be a good choice. They can be made from many things, and if yours is taken during a fight, a tree branch will work just as well in place of your staff. But the choice belongs to you. If you would rather learn swords or some other weapon, that can be arranged."
