Sai said to his companions. He relayed his thoughts through telepathy as much because he figured he would be better understood as because he believed he could use the practice.

the gryphon said. Even in the dark her eyes could pick out the pinhole silhouettes.
Tura tilted her head to give Vilya a knowing look. She had not tried the telepathic technique that they all had learned in the floating city. The wind now was too strong to speak with voices. Vilya hesitated, then closed her eyes. She caught Sai's comment and agreed with it wholeheartedly. Reaching out as she did with Tura she felt her cheeks flush as she made the link;

((Grr, every time I try to post it keeps logging me out and then I have to start all over again!!!))
Sai responded. "Stratus," Sai called out over the roaring wind. "Take us down." Stratus responded with a mental affirmative and then he, and his three passengers, began to descend.

Kin mentally groaned at the idea of helping others. If there wasn't a battle, he didn't want to be involved.
As soon as Stratus was close enough to the ground, Kin leaped from the beast and landed on his feet like a cat would.

Tura snorted as her talons sunk into the snow. She squinted through the massive flakes that now drifted down from the sky. Vilya gazed at the clouds just beyond the village, they were black now and she felt a twinge of pain in her head, they seemed almost familiar. The light of a lantern brought her attention about to a small, old woman standing by an opened door. Her face was worn and leathery from a lifetime in the mountains, but her silver hair was still thick and braided elegantly with beads and feathers. Her eyes, though sad held a life in them that reminded Vilya of her people. her heart suddenly ached for home. "Travelers?" she asked in a husky voice, then here eyes widened as she saw the stones they carried. "Mages! Come, please come in out of the cold." Vilya exchanged looks with Sai and Kin before jumping off Tura's back and into the snow, which engulfed her boots easily. Summoning Tura back inside the gem Vilya followed the old woman into the village's main lodge. a wave of heat washed over them and Vilya smiled at the roaring fire in the hearth. The lodge was constructed of thick pine trunks, the gaps sealed with resin. On either side of the hearth crouched two iron wolves, welded to the fire pit itself which opened past the chimney and out into the floor. There was a hole in the roof to let the smoke flow out. The floors were covered with thick-furred animal skins and on every wall an intricate weaving hung, their colours blazing in the fire-light. Scenes of hunting, scenes of spring and of vast wild herds of deer and mountain sheep danced about them. If Vilya were to describe the building in a glance, she would liken it to a northern hunting lodge peppered with elements of a tribal great hall. It reminded her of home. "You don't look at all prepared for the mountains." The old woman remarked, "Are you running from something?" She turned back, looking at the group over her shoulder. "You could say that." Vilya replied quietly. Beyond the woman she could see a circle of men who had been taking amongst themselves but now looked up and watched them carefully. "We have clothing for you if you require it." She moved off to a large pot, bubbling happily to itself over the fire, not seeming perturbed at all by Vilya's confession, "And food aplenty." "Thank you." Tura purred softly.
Vilya for the moment chose a bench and set her cloak and things in a corner and out of the way.

Sai had followed Vilya's lead and directed Stratus to land near to wear Tura had. When the old woman appeared and offered them shelter he again followed as Vilya took the lead. He recalled Stratus within his binding stone, something he preferred not to do but there was no way that the feathered dragon would fit through the doorway into the building. Sai took in the room with a wide sweeping glance. He was quite impressed by the amount of care that obviously went into the place, though he was somewhat put off by the fact that he now stood on the skins of previously live creatures. Sai clearly noted the way that the woman brushed off Vilya's comment that they were running from something, and then offered them food and clothing. Sai thought, reaching out to his friends mind.

Vilya suppressed a shiver as she heard Sai's voice in her head. She still wasn't quite used to speaking to anyone other than Tura through a mind link.
The woman eyed them carefully, seeming to understand what they were doing. "We are in need of your help." She said quietly, and all of a sudden one of the men sitting in the circle stood and walked over. "We are in need of no one's help Nina. Least of all a mage." He was tall, with thick black hair and a short beard. His wool tunic was similar to the old woman's, faded grey but with two large bear paws sewed on the chest. He looked down at Vilya harshly. Vilya returned his look with a rebellious one of her own. "And what would you have us do Brissek? wait around while things get worse?" "A mage is the cause of our trouble! We do not need more!" "You're son is dying, Brissek. And we are out of time." At this Vilya looked back at Sai with her brow furrowed. The man called Brissek quieted. Nina took a long, deep breath and looked at the small party of casters. "The sage of this village has fallen very ill. We believe a strong magic is responsible."

Kin followed Vilya and Sai inside but made no conversation. He sat down and propped himself up against the wall beside the doorway with on leg pulled up towards his body.
Teh, we can't keep stopping and helping every single person we run into. Kin thought and scowled.
Vix reminded.
Kin replied, that alone made Vix agree and fell silent.

Sai decided to speak up. "Nina, was it? Maybe you should explain the whole situation to us, so that we might know if we'd even be able to help you." Stratus asked. Sai had been keeping their bond open and sharing his thoughts with his partner, so that the dragon could hear what Sai heard.

An expression of great relief crossed the old woman's face. "It began about two weeks ago; when the weather took a turn for the worse. It is usually so calm at this time of year, but the winds were blowing stronger than ever. In the end our mage was forced to go out and turn the winds. He did this, sending the storms out into the highest reaches of the mountains. For a while it worked, but not long after he fell ill, just collapsed, mysteriously, as if under a spell. Since then the weather has been getting worse and that large fog bank has been building from the north, for some reason it has not passed into the village, but we fear it will only be a matter of time." Vilya listened, her brow furrowed in deep thought. Tura growled.
Tura did not answer for a long while. She said finally, Vilya did as she was asked and Nina agreed to take them to where the mage was resting. Back outside the snow had become heavier, and a wind had picked up. The house where the mage lay was fairly small, a large fire roared in the hearth but the firewood pile beside it was dwindling. Bressek came as well and watched stone-faced as Vilya approached his son. He was young for a mage Vilya thought, in his mid 30s, with a thin, almond-shaped face and mouse-brown hair. His eyes were gently closed as if he slept, but underneath his eyelids his eyes twitched, gazing back and forth at invisible objects. Tura cast the spell and Vilya channeled the energy carefully up to her eyes. She shut them almost immediately for the room seemed awash with colour.
<...I see two different colours. One is blue, but it's very faint, it surrounds the boy. The other is a deep purple, it looks like its trying to swallow him.> At the foot of the bed, Vilya had hardly noticed at first lay an animal, it too glowed light blue, but like the mage, the creature was very weak. Tura's voice was urgent now. Vilya looked, straining to see past the purple energy that nearly engulfed the room. Tura was silent, the feeling of urgency that had flowed into Vilya now turned to a quiet acceptance. Suddenly there was a flash in Vilya's vision, and the blue glow was snuffed out, she was forced to abandon the spell as the purple magic became too intense. Vilya stumbled back, breathing heavily she looked back at the bed. The mage was still, and his companion lay motionless, its head which now Vilya could see in the firelight was the head of a ram, lay slumped on the floor. Vilya looked at Sai, her expression only hinting at the fear that welled up inside her. "He's dead." From outside there came a low rumbling, as the barrier the mage had been maintianing crumbled.

((Sorry it's taken me so long to reply again. Part of it was Christmas has been busy. The other part is I just really don't know hoe to respond to this. But I need to post something, so I'm just gonna wing it and see what happens.))
"He's dead." Sai heard those words and felt shock course through his body. He'd been in plenty of dangerous situations, especially with that Imperial Guard chasing after him. That first night they had crossed paths had definitely been a life or death situation. But Sai had never actually seen a person die. He was surprised at how shocked he was, but didn't have long to ponder the fact as almost as soon as the mage fell, so did his barrier. Sai heard the rumble of the storm as it broke free of its confines. Oh... crap... Stratus asked from within his stone. Sai sent back. Stratus sent back only grim determination.
Sai turned his attentions outward once more, and towards his companions. "Any bright ideas? Because I've got nothing."

((No worries, I think we've all been busy for the holidays))
Vilya, fear mounting looked to the villagers who sat by the bedside, they were too shocked to react, both staring at their young sage's body. Only Tura's harsh, urgent voice woke her up. Without a second's hesitation Vilya was out the door and repeating the release spell. The clouds that before had been prowling the edge of the town were now free and began to flow down like a smoky deluge. Tura snarled at them defiantly. The wind was strong, it stole spoken word so Vilya resorted to her mind link with the gryphon.
Vilya thought quickly, though her head had started to pound again, this time much worse than before. Something urgent clawed at the back of her mind but as of yet remained in obscurity.
Tura called to Sai and Kin, relating their plan; Tura refocused on her companion, who had her back to her now, staring at something in the distance and clutching her temple as if it might burst. She did not need her gryphon sight to see the dog scrambling frantically before the pestilence clouds, and even as they engulfed the creature it could be seen still, but it looked subdued. The cloud thickened about it and Tura thought she saw the hints of claws and limbs in the smoke, surrounding the poor creature. It slowed and finally stopped as deep purple strips appeared on its body, searing away its fur. In its final moments the dog let out a painful cry before collapsing in the snow. But even as the creature lay the cry went on, and Tura realized that it was not the dog anymore but Vilya. She had bent over double, her head clasped in both hands. Tura rushed to her as she fell to her knees in the snow. Her eyes were closed and tears streamed freely down her cheeks. Tura tried to reach her though the mindlink but was met with a wall of sadness and pain...and memories. "My..people." Vilya managed, and Tura laid back her ears. "T-they died like this..." Tura could only guess the horrors her companion saw in her head, but the cloud was descending fast, and Vilya was in no condition to fight it. she growled and with one motion of her wing batted Vilya aside.
Vilya landed in a shocked heap in the snow and instantly a shield appeared around her. She was shaking badly and could barely stand but she forced herself up as the gryphon turned and readied for flight. For added measure Tura wove a concealment about the shield, hiding her from mortal sight. "What are you doing?!" Vilya screamed With that Tura leapt skyward, waiting for the other mages to follow.

Suddenly Kin heard Vilya explain the situation in his head. Kin thought to Vix.
I guess we're obligated to help another village or we're done for too... How am I going to help without having to use THAT?...
