My dad and older brother play guitar. My dad thinks that I should be into jazz and blues and stuff.
Ugh, we've started marching and Mr. May is being weird. Five days til our performance and we've yet to march in our correct ranks. One day he decided all of the trombones were gonna be guide right, but most of them are freshmen and couldn't keep spacing to save their lives. Fortunately, that didn't last. Anywho, we're sucking supremely with only one drum major who has a habbit of issuing different commands than May. Blah.

Once I got braces I had trouble playing my flute (like a heck of a ton of trouble). I'm getting my braces off somewhere between 1-3 months from now and I'm not sure if I'm gonna be able to play without them now after all the trouble I went through to play with them. Can someone tell me if it's gonna be really hard to? (Because I'm really sick of feeling like I'm holding back the band because of my sucky playing with braces. Even now after tons of practice I still can't play right... and I feel like I'm holding our band back because it consists of a whole seven people, a BD, four colorgaurd and one drum major...)

I've never had braces, so I don't know what that's like, but have you tried getting private lessons or something? Maybe you could ask your band director to tutor you for a while. =P

I play in what I consider to be a decent sized flute section. I believe this year we'll have 12 or 13 flutes. Well, being one of many, you have to accel to get attention, so I also learned the piccolo. I don't own a flute, but I own a piccolo and a crystal piccolo. I have to borrow a flute from my school. But I feel that I am rather a wonderful flute player. I also play violin and piano, and a little bit of other instruments, but I love the flute. It's such a beautiful instrument to listen to. I could play it all day. One time, I met this girl who had her mothers flute, and the end-piece was completely bent downwards. IT was weird. Does anyone else's flute act up when they get ready to do a solo, or is it just me?

Oohh, I hated when I got braces. Wreaked my tone, it got really airy sweatdrop . I'm not sure what it's like after you get the braces off though. I've got another year of them left, but you should probably ask your instructer, or band teacher for help if you find it really hard. That's what I did when I first got the braces, and it got a lot easier. I'll probabl have to ask for help again now that I think of it... stressed

Eawoivu Does anyone else's flute act up when they get ready to do a solo, or is it just me? I get that same mentality. ^^; I think it's because we expect to do well but when the tone doesn't come out quite as clear as we'd like, we find it repulsive and horrible.

I had the same problem, but now that they're gone I can play a lot better. Although retainers do get in the way.

The freshman concert band I'm in this year (Yes...first year in high school.) doesn't have an extremely overpowering amount of flutes, but it's still a sea, nonetheless. xD
Our first performance is this Friday and it's at a football game and pep assembly, so I need to learn how to use a flute lyre...you know, the one you put on your wrist? Is it possible for anyone to provide me with some advice in this matter? ^o^;
